Volbeat – Servant of the Mind

Multi-platinum Danish band Volbeat announced the release of their eighth studio album, Servant Of The Mind, coming via Republic Records on December 3rd. The new album will be available in standard CD, deluxe 2LP vinyl (in various limited-edition variants, full info below) and a deluxe digital edition. Pre-order the album here.

For Servant of the Mind, the band, which consists of Michael Poulsen (guitars/vocals), Jon Larsen (drums), Rob Caggiano (guitars) and Kaspar Boye Larsen (bass) took their signature heavy metal, psychobilly and punk ‘n’ roll sound up a notch while showcasing Poulsen’s keen ability for songwriting and storytelling.

“I wrote the whole album in three months,” recalls Poulsen, “I was in a good place and mood while at home, and had a captive audience of myself… There are a lot of Volbeat signatures in it. If you go back to the first record and compare it to where we are now, you can hear how the band has developed its style, while keeping the signature sound.”

To coincide with the album announcement, the band has released the new single “Shotgun Blues,” an anthemic track in which Poulsen explores the ghostly events he recently experienced upon moving into a new home. “Every time you move into a house, you bring dead people with you,” he explains. “Weird stuff happens when I move into a [new] house… it’s very otherworldly.” Watch the lyric video HERE.

The album also includes the “double barrel” of Summer songs the band released this past June: “Wait A Minute My Girl” and “Dagen Før (feat. Stine Bramsen).” The former of which became the band’s ninth number one single on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart.

Other songs on the album weave intricate and fascinating tales. “The Sacred Stones” tells the story of “an earthly being who has committed himself to the dark side. He is on a mission, speaking to darker forces and fallen angels.” Meanwhile, “The Devil Rages On” looks at the idea of the devil taking human form. Album opener “Temple of Ekur” returns to the ancient themes explored in past songs such as “The Gates of Babylon,” while the epic album closer “Lasse’s Birgita” explores the story of the first witch burnings to occur in Sweden in 1471.

About Volbeat

Not ones to rest on their laurels, their forthcoming album Servant of the Mind, which was written and recorded during the shutdown and quarantine necessitated by the COVID-19 pandemic, is introspective but pulls no punches and is no less raucous or driving than their previous efforts.

Yesterday, Glass Animals unveiled a stunning performance of their Platinum-Certified global hit Heat Waves on Good Morning America—watch their performance HERE and interview HERE! The band’s signature high-energy performance was shot remotely at Brighton’s iconic British Airways i360 observation tower during sunrise. Frontman Dave Bayley also spoke more about the song and its meaning with Good Morning America Digital—watch HERE.

Glass Animals have had a career-defining year with Heat Waves and their 2020 album, Dreamland. Not only did Heat Waves recently peak in the Top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart over a year after its original release date, but the band also performed the song during their first-ever U.S. awards show performance at Billboard Music Awards, were selected as Billboard Music Awards finalists for Top Rock Song: Heat Waves and Top Rock Album: Dreamland, and performed the track on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and Ellen, and more.

Next month, Glass Animals will kick off their nearly sold-out North American Dreamland Tour, which sold over 135,000 tickets in the first 3 days of its on-sale. The run kicks off August 30th in Lewiston, NY and takes the band across North America well into 2022. The shows add to their already sold-out fall UK tour dates, previously announced 2022 Red Rocks shows, and confirmed festival performances at Bonnaroo, Life Is Beautiful, Firefly Festival, Outside Lands, and more.

Dreamland, the band’s hugely popular third full-length album, entered UK charts on its opening week at #2 (their highest ever scoring chart position, a massive 21 spots above their last album, Mercury Prize-nominated How To Be A Human Being) and charted inside the top 10 in the US (#7 on Billboard Top 200 Chart), Australia, New Zealand, and Ireland. The album clocked up 160 million streams in its first week of release. Over the past year, Heat Waves was crowned #1 on Triple J’s Hottest 100—an accolade not given to a UK band since 2009 with previous winners including Kendrick Lamar and Billie Eilish—receiving a sync placement on FIFA, then an organic Minecraft affiliation, whereby the YouTuber LoverFella (2.61M subscribers) rebuilt a Glass Animals fan’s base and surprised her with a meet and greet with the band who were waiting inside. Lil Tecca × Aminé – Gametime

Representing a first-of-its-kind collaboration, Republic Records, Warner Bros. Pictures, and Xbox present the music video for “Gametime” by Lil Tecca and Aminé—from the Space Jam: A New Legacy Official Soundtrack. Watch the music video for “Gametime”—HERE.

In celebration of the upcoming film, Xbox invited fans from around the world to submit their ideas for an original Space Jam: A New Legacy–themed video game. The result is “Space Jam: A New Legacy – The Game,” a basketball beat ‘em up reminiscent of classic arcade games of the ‘90’s.

For the “Gametime” music video, Xbox animated Lil Tecca into the newest member of the Tune Squad as a character in the arcade-style game, on-screen. During a key sequence, the multi-platinum New York rapper faces the Goon Squad alongside none other than basketball superstar, LeBron James. In addition to “Space Jam: A New Legacy – The Game,” the music video showcases an exclusive Tune Squad Xbox Wireless Controller and a custom Bugs Bunny Xbox Series S Console. The integration marks a full circle moment for Tecca who started rapping and honing his craft while on Xbox Live.

“Ten years ago if you told me I’d be in an Xbox game with the G.O.A.T. himself, I wouldn’t believe it,” commented Tecca. “This is the biggest dream come true, and I’m so thankful Bron, Xbox, and Space Jam: A New Legacy invited me to the party.”

“We’ve got a rap superstar, an iconic film franchise, and the greatest athlete of this generation in one video,” added Marcos Waltenberg, Director of Xbox Global Partnerships. “We’ve never done anything of this magnitude between sports, music, film, and video games. It’s a watershed moment for Xbox, and we’re honored to be a part of it.”

The “Space Jam: A New Legacy–The Game” launched globally on July 1 exclusively into Xbox Game Pass Perks for a limited time. The game will be available free-to-play for all fans through the Microsoft Store on Xbox on Thursday, July 15.

Volbeat Shares Wait A Minute My Girl

Today, Volbeat, the multi-platinum Danish band, share their new music video for “Wait A Minute My Girl.” The music video was directed by Sean Donnelly, founder of AWESOME+modest, with collages by Mengqing Yuan, and animation by Steve Yeung. AWESOME+modest is an animation studio based in Los Angeles, California that specializes in mixed media techniques. They most recently created all of the animation in the HBO documentary miniseries “The Lady and the Dale”, Marvel’s “Behind the Mask” and Showtime’s “The One and Only Dick Gregory.” The band said of the video: “After seeing the work they did on The Lady and the Dale we knew that Sean and the team at Awesome+modest could do something trippy and creative for “Wait A Minute My Girl.” This video exceeded even our wildest expectations. It’s weird, fun and crazy – we absolutely love it.” Watch the music video for “Wait A Minute My Girl” here.

Along with “Wait A Minute My Girl” Volbeat also recently shared their song “Dagen Før.” The two tracks, the band’s first new music since 2019’s album Rewind, Replay, Rebound, were written and recorded while the world was in lockdown during the pandemic. Michael, Kaspar and Jon recorded their parts with long-time producer Jacob Hansen in Denmark, while Rob worked remotely from New York. Watch the lyric videos for each song here.

“Wait A Minute My Girl” features saxophone player Doug Corcoran and piano player Raynier Jacob Jacildo, who both perform with JD McPherson’s band and previously appeared with Volbeat on 2019’s “Die To Live (feat. Neil Fallon).” Singer Mia Maja, who has worked with the band since Seal The Deal & Let’s Boogie, also appears on backing vocals. “Dagen Før” features guest vocals from Danish artist Stine Bramsen, who is known for her solo work as well as being a member of the band Alphabeat. The song, in the tradition of “The Garden’s Tale,” “Maybele I Hofteholder” and “For Evigt,” features both English and Danish lyrics, and marks the first commercially-released song that features Stine singing in her native Danish.

Since forming in 2001, Volbeat has gone from the clubs of Copenhagen to headlining stages around the world, including the famed Telia Parken stadium in Denmark (and becoming the only domestic artist to ever sell out the venue). Over the course of eight record-breaking albums the band has picked up number one songs (including eight #1s on the US Mainstream Rock chart and counting), multi-platinum certifications, awards and accolades (including a Grammy nomination) all over the planet. Their latest album, Rewind, Replay, Rebound, was released on August 2nd, 2019 and has spawned the hit singles “Last Day Under The Sun,” “Die To Live (feat. Neil Fallon)” and “Leviathan.” A live album featuring songs recorded during the subsequent world tour, Rewind, Replay, Rebound: Live in Deutschland, was released digitally on November 27th, 2020. A vinyl-only bonus track compilation, Hokus Bonus, was originally made available on limited-edition vinyl on RSD Black Friday 2020 and will be available in a new, limited European version and a North American standard version this Summer and are available for pre-order at on Volbeat’s website.

Stephen Sanchez – Kayla

BUZZING SINGER & SONGWRITER STEPHEN SANCHEZ RELEASES NEW SINGLE KAYLA DEBUT EP PRODUCED BY IAN FITCHUCK [KACEY MUSGRAVES] COMING SOON

 Listen to Kayla HERE

After asserting himself as a modern day troubadour with millions of independent streams and views, buzzing singer and songwriter Stephen Sanchez shares a new single entitled Kayla today via Republic Records. Listen to KaylaHERE.

Stephen wrote the tune 100% solo but recruited Ian Fitchuck [Kacey Musgraves] for production in Nashville. As the story goes, he had just gotten out of a relationship and penned the tune about a female friend, Kayla, who he’d long harbored unspoken feelings for. She loved the song, but had moved away. Now, this story of unrequited love paves the way for his upcoming debut EP executive produced by Fitchuck. On the track, pedal steel wraps around delicately picked acoustic guitar as Stephen’s voice rings out with raw emotion on the hook, Won’t you lie next to me, oh Kayla.

On the track Stephen Said, I wrote Kayla while sitting alone in my bedroom thinking about this girl (Kayla) I had a thing for 2 years ago. I wanted to write her this song because at the time she didn’t see all the wonder I saw in her. I wanted to capture that wonder in hopes that maybe she’d see it for herself someday. With this song I hope people are brought back to a child-like innocence all love has at its core and that the lyrics would ‘hit-home’ enough for someone to look at love with a little more heart.

Next up, he takes the stage at Bonnaroo this fall, which marks the first time he’s not only playing a festival, but also attending one!

18-year-old Stephen Sanchez pens the kind of tunes that resonate in any era. They’d work just as well on social media as they would at Woodstock. He introduced himself with his independent debut single Lady By The Sea, racking up 4 million Spotify streams, 2 million views and 480K likes on TikTok, and received plugs from mega-creators a la Spencer X, Abigail Barlow, and Jenna Raine.

The success landed him a deal with Republic Records, and he’ll be unveiling more new music very soon.

Glass Animals – Tokyo Drifting (Oliver Malcolm Remix)

As parts of the US welcome the first heat wave of the summer, Glass Animals continue to make waves across the globe, having recently performed at the Billboard Music Awards, released the formidable “Space Ghost Coast To Coast” featuring Bree Runway, collaborated with cult Peanut Butter brand Jackpot to raise money for Music Venues Trust, announced their upcoming Good Morning America Summer Concert Series performance on July 20th, hit #15 at Top 40 radio and the critically acclaimed British band dropped the remix of “Tokyo Drifting” with Oliver Malcolm.

Oliver Malcolm is the rising artist and producer who taught himself how to produce from the age of 12–having worked with the likes of IDK, Aluna George, Joey Bada$$, Jay Rock, Masego, Tinashe and more. Glass Animal’s frontman Dave Bayley invited Oliver onto his inimitable Cereal Bars series, having heard the remix by chance and realizing it deserved its own release. On “Cereal Bars”, Dave creates beats while his favourite up-and-coming artists write lyrics in the theme of sugary treats, previously starring BENEE and Easy Life’s Murray. The series has pulled in fans from across the globe and is a testament to Dave’s remarkable production talent.

Speaking about Tokyo Drifting (Oliver Malcolm Remix), Dave says:“It’s an ironic internal flex, me as a narrator describing/taking the piss out of an extreme alter ego version of myself; a version of me that can do things that I’m uncomfortable doing. Wavey Davey is my fucked-up Sasha Fierce; he’s a geezer, a street fighter, he can dance, he parties hard, he’s spontaneous. He can take hits and be told he is shit and not care because he’s confident. He can fight everything the world throws at him.”

Glass Animals have had a career defining year, with their hit “Heat Waves” being crowned number 1 on Triple J’s Hot 100–an accolade not given to a UK band since 2009 with previous winners including Kendrick Lamar and Billie Eilish–receiving a sync placement on FIFA, then an organic Minecraft affiliation whereby the YouTuber LoverFella (2.1M subscribers) rebuilt a Glass Animals fan’s base and surprised her with a meet and greet with the band who were waiting inside. “Heat Waves” held the #1 spot on the singles chart in Australia for six consecutive weeks (the longest no.1 in 2021 for Australia). It has had over 500 million combined streams and to date, “Heat Waves” peaked at 2 million daily streams and has received over 22 million views of the video on YouTube. Glass Animals hit a new Spotify monthly listener peak of 18.2 million, surpassing the likes of Tame Impala, Gorillaz, The 1975 and The Strokes.

About Lord Huron

Lord Huron first made a name for themselves with their debut album Lonesome Dreams and shortly after Strange Tales, which featured the triple-platinum single The Night We Met. In 2018, Lord Huron earned widespread critical acclaim with their first Top 5 debut on the Billboard Top 2—with their third album, Vide Noir. A cinematic collection of pensive provocative, and powerful rock, the record garnered praise from NPR, Time, Los Angeles Times, Spin, Stereogum, Refinery29, UPROXX, and more as singles such as Wait by the River (which the band performed on Late Night with Seth Meyers) and When the Night is Over generated tens of millions of streams. The band’s extensive touring includes headline shows at some of the most storied venues in the country (including the Hollywood Bowl, Red Rocks, and the Ryman Auditorium) and prime slots at festivals ranging from Coachella to Lollapalooza to Bonnaroo.
