Volbeat – Servant of the Mind

Multi-platinum Danish band Volbeat announced the release of their eighth studio album, Servant Of The Mind, coming via Republic Records on December 3rd. The new album will be available in standard CD, deluxe 2LP vinyl (in various limited-edition variants, full info below) and a deluxe digital edition. Pre-order the album here.

For Servant of the Mind, the band, which consists of Michael Poulsen (guitars/vocals), Jon Larsen (drums), Rob Caggiano (guitars) and Kaspar Boye Larsen (bass) took their signature heavy metal, psychobilly and punk ‘n’ roll sound up a notch while showcasing Poulsen’s keen ability for songwriting and storytelling.

“I wrote the whole album in three months,” recalls Poulsen, “I was in a good place and mood while at home, and had a captive audience of myself… There are a lot of Volbeat signatures in it. If you go back to the first record and compare it to where we are now, you can hear how the band has developed its style, while keeping the signature sound.”

To coincide with the album announcement, the band has released the new single “Shotgun Blues,” an anthemic track in which Poulsen explores the ghostly events he recently experienced upon moving into a new home. “Every time you move into a house, you bring dead people with you,” he explains. “Weird stuff happens when I move into a [new] house… it’s very otherworldly.” Watch the lyric video HERE.

The album also includes the “double barrel” of Summer songs the band released this past June: “Wait A Minute My Girl” and “Dagen Før (feat. Stine Bramsen).” The former of which became the band’s ninth number one single on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart.

Other songs on the album weave intricate and fascinating tales. “The Sacred Stones” tells the story of “an earthly being who has committed himself to the dark side. He is on a mission, speaking to darker forces and fallen angels.” Meanwhile, “The Devil Rages On” looks at the idea of the devil taking human form. Album opener “Temple of Ekur” returns to the ancient themes explored in past songs such as “The Gates of Babylon,” while the epic album closer “Lasse’s Birgita” explores the story of the first witch burnings to occur in Sweden in 1471.

About Volbeat

Volbeat are two decades deep into a career that has found them sharing stages with genre legends like Black Sabbath, Metallica, Motorhead, Slipknot, Megadeth, Anthrax and more. They have racked up nearly three billion cumulative streams over the course of their career, notched a Best Metal Performance Grammy nomination for “Room 24 (feat. King Diamond)” from 2014’s acclaimed (and gold-selling) Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies, and have grabbed multiple Danish Music Awards. Not ones to rest on their laurels, their forthcoming album Servant of the Mind, which was written and recorded during the shutdown and quarantine necessitated by the COVID-19 pandemic, is introspective but pulls no punches and is no less raucous or driving than their previous efforts.

Volbeat Shares Wait A Minute My Girl

Today, Volbeat, the multi-platinum Danish band, share their new music video for “Wait A Minute My Girl.” The music video was directed by Sean Donnelly, founder of AWESOME+modest, with collages by Mengqing Yuan, and animation by Steve Yeung. AWESOME+modest is an animation studio based in Los Angeles, California that specializes in mixed media techniques. They most recently created all of the animation in the HBO documentary miniseries “The Lady and the Dale”, Marvel’s “Behind the Mask” and Showtime’s “The One and Only Dick Gregory.” The band said of the video: “After seeing the work they did on The Lady and the Dale we knew that Sean and the team at Awesome+modest could do something trippy and creative for “Wait A Minute My Girl.” This video exceeded even our wildest expectations. It’s weird, fun and crazy – we absolutely love it.” Watch the music video for “Wait A Minute My Girl” here.

Along with “Wait A Minute My Girl” Volbeat also recently shared their song “Dagen Før.” The two tracks, the band’s first new music since 2019’s album Rewind, Replay, Rebound, were written and recorded while the world was in lockdown during the pandemic. Michael, Kaspar and Jon recorded their parts with long-time producer Jacob Hansen in Denmark, while Rob worked remotely from New York. Watch the lyric videos for each song here.

“Wait A Minute My Girl” features saxophone player Doug Corcoran and piano player Raynier Jacob Jacildo, who both perform with JD McPherson’s band and previously appeared with Volbeat on 2019’s “Die To Live (feat. Neil Fallon).” Singer Mia Maja, who has worked with the band since Seal The Deal & Let’s Boogie, also appears on backing vocals. “Dagen Før” features guest vocals from Danish artist Stine Bramsen, who is known for her solo work as well as being a member of the band Alphabeat. The song, in the tradition of “The Garden’s Tale,” “Maybele I Hofteholder” and “For Evigt,” features both English and Danish lyrics, and marks the first commercially-released song that features Stine singing in her native Danish.

Since forming in 2001, Volbeat has gone from the clubs of Copenhagen to headlining stages around the world, including the famed Telia Parken stadium in Denmark (and becoming the only domestic artist to ever sell out the venue). Over the course of eight record-breaking albums the band has picked up number one songs (including eight #1s on the US Mainstream Rock chart and counting), multi-platinum certifications, awards and accolades (including a Grammy nomination) all over the planet. Their latest album, Rewind, Replay, Rebound, was released on August 2nd, 2019 and has spawned the hit singles “Last Day Under The Sun,” “Die To Live (feat. A vinyl-only bonus track compilation, Hokus Bonus, was originally made available on limited-edition vinyl on RSD Black Friday 2020 and will be available in a new, limited European version and a North American standard version this Summer and are available for pre-order at on Volbeat’s website.

Volbeat – Wait a Minute My Girl & Dagen For

Multi-platinum Danish metal band Volbeat announces the debut of two new songs for Summer,  “Wait A Minute My Girl” and “Dagen Før.” The two tracks, the band’s first new music since 2019’s album Rewind, Replay, Rebound, were written and recorded while the world was in lockdown during the pandemic. Michael, Kaspar and Jon recorded their parts with long-time producer Jacob Hansen in Denmark, while Rob worked remotely from New York.

The band says about the songs: “As the weather begins to warm and the days get longer in many parts of the world, we wanted to share two songs that we wrote and recorded over these long, difficult fifteen months that have the vibe and feel of Summer. We’re beyond thankful that even during a lockdown our good friends Doug, Ray and Mia Maja were able to put the pedal to the metal with us on ‘Wait A Minute My Girl,’ and we’re absolutely thrilled that Stine Bramsen, who we’ve known and admired for a long time, was willing to lend her incredible talents to ‘Dagen Før.’ We hope you enjoy this double-barreled blast of Summer tunes as much as we enjoyed creating them, and we can’t wait for you to hear what else we have in store for you.”

“Wait A Minute My Girl” features saxophone player Doug Corcoran and piano player Raynier Jacob Jacildo, who both perform with JD McPherson’s band and previously appeared with Volbeat on 2019’s “Die To Live” (feat. Neil Fallon.) Singer Mia Maja, who has worked with the band since Seal The Deal & Let’s Boogie, also appears on backing vocals.

Volbeat – “Die to Live”

VOLBEAT SECURES 8TH #1 RECORD ON THE MAINSTREAM ROCK SONGS CHART
WITH “DIE TO LIVE

BAND NOW HAS THE MOST #1s BY A EUROPEAN BAND

7th STUDIO ALBUM, REWIND, REPLAY, REBOUND, OUT NOW VIA REPUBLIC RECORDS

Volbeat’s latest single, “Die To Live,” is currently #1 on the Mainstream Rock Songs chart. The Danish band’s latest single is their 8th to reach the top of the chart, racking up more #1 songs in this format than any other European artist. The honor was previously held by U2, who’s record Volbeat tied last August when their single “Last Day Under The Sun” became their 7th number one on the chart. Find more information via Billboard here.

Tickets and information for Volbeat’s “Rewind, Replay, Rebound World Tour” are available here.

Volbeat recently debuted a new video documenting their 2019 called “Die To Live – The Year In Volbeat” which features footage from their sold-out European tour, their US summer trek on The Knottfest Roadshow, and the filming of the music video for “Die To Live (feat. Neil Fallon)” which was directed by Adam Rothlein at Ghost Atomic Pictures and taped at Futura Studio in Roslindale, MA. The song and video both feature appearances by Clutch’s Neil Fallon, as well as Raynier Jacob Jacildo and Doug Corcoran of JD McPherson’s band.

The band’s seventh studio album Rewind, Replay, Rebound is out now. For the album, Volbeat— Michael Poulsen (guitars/vocals), Rob Caggiano (guitars), Kaspar Boye Larsen (bass), and Jon Larsen (drums) —build upon the distinct, psychobilly, punk-tinged rock ‘n’ roll sound they are known for while reaching for new creative summits. “The whole point for us going into the studio, is because you still have something to prove — not just for the fans, but mostly for yourself,” says Poulsen. “We would not be able to do this record if it wasn’t for the work we have done in the past. No matter how old the band gets or how many records we do, there is always going to be that signature sound.” Rewind, Replay, Rebound is available on all formats here, including a 2 CD deluxe edition, a special deluxe edition box set, and transparent and blue colored vinyl, numbered and limited to 1,000 copies each.

Rewind, Replay, Rebound was produced by long-time collaborator Jacob Hansen and co-produced by Rob Caggiano and Michael Poulsen. This marks the first studio album with Kaspar Boye Larsen on bass. To achieve the album’s sound the band also drew upon a myriad of guests including backing vocalist Mia Maja and the Harlem Gospel Choir, who both return after appearing on 2016’s Seal The Deal & Let’s Boogie. Ultimately, Volbeat has not lost their passion to create and progress. It’s that which keeps them hungry — and musically honest on the new album.

VOLBEAT emerged from Copenhagen in 2001. Since then, they’ve tirelessly clawed their way to hard rock’s upper echelon with endless touring, including opening for Metallica, Motorhead and Slipknot, and a string of six beloved full-length albums. A distinction that Volbeat topped in 2016 when Seal The Deal & Let’s Boogie debuted at #4. The band also released Let’s Boogie! Live At Telia Parken, a concert film and album documenting their landmark 2017 Copenhagen show in front of 48,250 fans, the largest show a Danish band has ever performed in Denmark.

VOLBEAT NEW VIDEO

VOLBEAT DEBUTS NEW MUSIC VIDEO FOR “DIE TO LIVE (FEAT. NEIL FALLON)”

7th STUDIO ALBUM, REWIND, REPLAY, REBOUND,  OUT NOW VIA REPUBLIC RECORDS

Today, multi-platinum Danish rock band Volbeat debut their new music video for “Die To Live (feat. Neil Fallon)” directed by Adam Rothlein at Ghost Atomic Pictures and taped at Futura Studio in Roslindale, MA. The song and video both feature appearances by Clutch’s lead singer Neil Fallon, as well as Raynier Jacob Jacildo and Doug Corcoran of JD McPherson’s band. Said Neil Fallon about taping the video “A couple of months ago I flew up to Boston to meet up with Volbeat to film the video for their new single, Die to Live.  It was a breeze to make, maybe four hours.  It’s a catchy straight-ahead rocker of a song and I am flattered to have been asked to participate.” Michael Poulsen, lead singer of Volbeat, added: “We were thrilled to be able to get Neil, Raynier and Doug together with us in the same room to shoot this video, and we’re really proud of how it came out. We hope you have as much fun watching it as we did making it!” Watch the music video for “Die To Live (feat. Neil Fallon)” here.

The second leg of the band’s Rewind, Rebound, Replay World Tour began this past Wednesday in Warsaw, and fans who attended last night’s show at Berlin’s Mercedes Benz Arena got an early first look at the video. The band will close out 2019 with sold out shows across Europe, and have recently announced new dates in early 2020. Full info and tickets for remaining dates can be found here.

The band recently released their seventh studio album Rewind, Replay, Rebound. At this point in their already storied career, Volbeat have opened for Metallica, Motorhead and Slipknot, garnered a 2014 Best Metal Performance Grammy nomination for “Room 24” and won multiple Danish Music Awards. For this album, they mine their own personal histories and that of their genre. The song “When We Were Kids” finds Volbeat ruminating on immortality and innocence we all naively experience in our youth, while “Rewind the Exit” and “Die to Live” both explore how the pursuit of perfection can be a hollow goal.

Clutch vocalist Neil Fallon is featured on “Die to Live,” a collaboration that is the result of the bands touring together and a love for the singer’s gruff and powerful style. Raynier Jacob Jacildo (piano) and Doug Corocran (saxophone) of JD McPherson’s band also lend their talents to the song.

Ultimately, Volbeat have not lost their passion to create and progress. It’s that which keeps them hungry — and musically honest on the new album.

VOLBEAT DEBUT NEW SONG, “PELVIS ON FIRE”

Multi-platinum Danish rock band Volbeat debut their new song “Pelvis on Fire,” a cheeky nod to the fun and frivolous rock of yore. “It’s a pure rock ‘n’ roller,” according to Poulsen. “When you hear songs from the ‘50s and ‘60s, and read the lyrics, they are not that deep. But it sounds great. It is a feeling. It’s a movement. It’s sexuality. It’s emotional and that thing we feel when we hear good rock ‘n’ roll.” Listen to “Pelvis on Fire,” off Volbeat’s forthcoming Rewind, Replay, Rebound (August 2nd, Republic Records) here.

Volbeat’s 29-date tour tour in support of Slipknot, on their extensive Knotfest Roadshow North American Tour as special guests, will kick off today in Mountain View, CA with additional stops in Salt Lake City, Phoenix, and Austin (full dates below).  Tickets for these dates are on sale now here.

Volbeat

Today multi-platinum Danish rock band Volbeat debut the music video for their new song “Last Day Under The Sun,” from their upcoming album Rewind, Replay, Rebound. The video was directed by Jakob Printzlau, who has previously directed Volbeat’s videos for “The Devil’s Bleeding Crown,” “Lonesome Rider” “16 Dollars” and “Cape Of Our Hero.” Michael Poulsen, guitarist and lead singer for the band, reveals that the lyrics for the song were inspired by a book about Johnny Cash: “When I read his book, he went through tough times with alcohol and drugs… He walked into a cave to lay down to die. But he wakes up and feels like he has been given a second chance.” Watch the video for “Last Day Under The Sun” here. Check out “Last Day Under The Sun”here.

Volbeat will release their seventh album Rewind, Replay, Rebound, on August 2nd via Republic Records. For the album, Volbeat— Michael Poulsen (guitars/vocals), Rob Caggiano (guitars), Kaspar Boye Larsen (bass), and Jon Larsen (drums) —build upon the distinct, psychobilly, punk-tinged rock ‘n’ roll sound they are known for, while reaching for new creative summits. “The whole point for us going into the studio, is because you still have something to prove — not just for the fans, but mostly for yourself,” says Poulsen. “We would not be able to do this record if it wasn’t for the work we have done in the past. No matter how old the band gets or how many records we do, there is always going to be that signature sound.” Rewind, Replay, Rebound is available for pre-order on all formats here, including a 2 CD deluxe edition, a special deluxe edition box set, and transparent and blue colored vinyl, numbered and limited to 1,000 copies each.

“Cheapside Sloggers” features a ripping guitar solo by Exodus and Slayer guitarist Gary Holt. Ultimately, Volbeat have not lost their passion to create and progress. It’s that which keeps them hungry — and musically honest on the new album.

The band has also announced the first leg of the Rewind, Replay, Rebound World Tour, with support from Baroness & Danko Jones. This tour will find the band performing in cities including London, Madrid, Berlin, Hamburg and Stockholm (full dates below) and tickets for all dates are on sale now here.

The band has previously announced that they will join Slipknot on their extensive Knotfest Roadshow North American Tour as special guests, alongside Gojira and Behemoth. The 29-date tour will kick off July 26th in Mountain View, CA with additional stops in Salt Lake City, Phoenix, and Austin (full dates below).  Tickets for these dates are on sale now here.

VOLBEAT emerged from Copenhagen in 2001. Since then, they’ve tirelessly clawed their way to hard rock’s upper echelon with endless touring and a string of six beloved full-length albums. Recently, their 2010 album Beyond Hell/Above Heaven, which features hit singles “A Warrior’s Call” and “Heaven Nor Hell,” received RIAA Gold Certification. 2013’s Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies bowed at #9 on the Billboard Top 200 upon release marking the highest U.S. chart entry for a Danish Act since 1997 until the band’s 2016 albumSeal The Deal & Let’s Boogie topped it by debuting at #4. Most recently the band released Let’s Boogie! Live At Telia Parken, a concert film and album documenting their landmark 2017 Copenhagen show in front of 48,250 fans, the largest show a Danish band has ever performed in Denmark.
