Housewarming parties have always been hallmarked by gift-giving. And while today’s housewarming gifts tend to be things like glassware, charcuterie boards or books, this wasn’t always the case. The tradition of housewarming parties began during medieval times, where it took on a very literal meaning. Central heating wasn’t around yet, so homeowners had to rely on fireplaces to stay warm during the cold winter months. This meant that housewarming parties of centuries past often involved gifts of firewood to help the family stay warm and healthy in their new home.

But today, as accustomed as you are to throwing a housewarming party, you’d likely be concerned if a guest showed up with a pile of firewood as a gift (and rightly so). Your new home might not even have a fireplace! But that doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate your purchase.

Housewarming parties are a rite of passage for new homeowners, though, in today’s climate, you may be wondering if you should even throw one at all. But there are plenty of ways to go about celebrating that keep everyone safe and happy. What traditionally has made a great housewarming party?

Whether you plan to go all out when decorating your home for a housewarming party, or you want to go the more low-key route, there are a few elements that make any housewarming party great. The first? A guest list full of close family and friends. Other must-haves include food, drinks and activities to keep everyone entertained all night long. Of course, you can always add or remove some of the steps above to better tailor your to-do list to your housewarming party specifications. As long as you make your party representative of what you want your life in your new home to be like, you’re off to a great start.

Options for hosting a (safe) housewarming party

Given the pandemic, it’s safe to say that housewarming parties aren’t what they used to be. While people are still buying up homes left and right (especially it’s a smart home that makes the pandemic a bit easier), get-togethers have slowed to a halt. New homeowners looking to celebrate their big purchase throughout 2020 may have had to trim their guest lists significantly or considered canceling their parties altogether.

But the celebrations don’t have to stop in order to keep people safe — quite the opposite, in fact! From backyard (socially distanced) parties to drive-by or Zoom get-togethers, there are plenty of options available that let new homeowners show off their digs while keeping everyone healthy.

Backyard get-togethers are always a hit, and given how much safer outdoor events are than indoor events, it’s a no brainer when it comes to hosting a housewarming party. Homeowners can use this trend to their advantage by throwing a drive-by housewarming party. Not only is this kind of party easy to plan, but it also means you don’t have to worry about cleaning up the inside of your home. All you have to do is mow the lawn, set up a table of food by the street and grab some lawn chairs to make the perfect party. Pick a theme from the options below.

Find out just how much your friends know about you with a homeowner history game, perfect for Zoom and backyard parties alike. Have your guests grab a pen and paper and make their best guesses to tough questions like:

  • How many houses did I tour before buying this home?
  • What’s my real estate agent’s name?

There is often a steep learning curve when it comes to owning your first home. You can no longer rely on your landlord or your condo’s maintenance team to fix your dishwasher when it breaks. You’re on your own now.

Get a head start on learning the ins and outs of owning a home (like how to protect your stuff with personal property insurance) by asking for advice from your friends and family. These printable advice cards are a great addition to any backyard or Zoom party, and once you’ve collected all your friend’s advice, you can turn the pages into a cute coffee table booklet.

  1. Lip syncing competition (home edition)

Once the drinks have been flowing, have your guests take turns lip-syncing and performing their hearts out. But this competition has a housewarming twist. It’s award show season, and just because many are still social distancing it does not mean you can’t have a viewing party with friends and family! The show can still go on with Houseparty.

Houseparty is a synchronous face-to-face social network that enables group video communication through mobile and desktop applications. The Super Bowl brings in almost 100 million viewers a year and Super Bowl parties have become many people’s favorite part of the special Sunday. Although Super Bowl parties will be less likely this year, a good drink is always necessary for the big game. 360 Magazine has put together a list of drink recipes for the Super Bowl that are both classic and delicious.

Glassware: Rocks

Ingredients:

  • 2 parts D’USSE VSOP Cognac
  • ¾ part simple syrup
  • 3 dashes Angostura Bitters
  • orange peel and brandied cherry to garnish

Method: Add all ingredients into a mixing glass with ice. Stir until cold. Strain into a rocks glass with a large-format ice cube. Twist orange peel over the cocktail to release the oils.

Bud Light Goes Inside the Brain of its #1 Fan, Post Malone, as he Stars In Two New Commercials for Bud Light and the Newly-Launched Bud Light Seltzer

NEW YORK, Jan. 29, 2020 — Today, Bud Light unveiled“#PostyStore” and “#PostyBar”, two new spots featuring Bud Light Seltzer and Grammy-nominated Bud Light fan, Post Malone. Instead of a traditional launch, the brand is opening up their biggest marketing moment of the year to the fans. Bud Light made two funny ads featuring Post Malone and cannot decide which one to take to Super Bowl LIV as their official in-game commercial. Now the brand is looking to their fans to share their input and help determine which commercial will air in the big game.

Starting this morning through Thursday, January 30, fans can visit Bud Light social channels to watch both commercials and share their input to help Bud Light make the decision on which advertisement to feature during Super Bowl LIV. Fans will need to tune in to the big game to learn which one Bud Light decided on.

“It feels cool to be in a Bud Light commercial, especially a Bud Light Super Bowl commercial, which is a huge deal,” said Post Malone. “I just love the taste and the camaraderie. So it’s a real honor and blessing for me to be able to be a part of such a big moment.”

Both advertisements take you into the brain of musician and Bud Light enthusiast, Post Malone. “#PostyStore” shows Post inside a convenience as he faces a decision a predicament: does he purchase his go-to drink Bud Light or the new Bud Light Seltzer? This predicament sparks confusion and mayhem in Post’s brain, and the store. Ultimately, he remembers that he’s rich and can afford to purchase both – who doesn’t love a happy ending? The second spot,“#PostyBar” follows Post Malone into a bar where he discovers Bud Light Seltzer Mango. Post goes in for a sip and his senses begin to determine what it tastes like, how it smells and if he likes it. Just like the rest of America, Post Malone and his taste buds give Bud Light Seltzer Mango his seal of approval.

Icons of the Los Angeles underground The Growlers are bringing their annual Halloween Beach Goth to the Hollywood Palladium on October 31November 1, and November 2. Not only that, yesterday they dropped their much-anticipated new album Natural Affair!

ABOUT THE GROWLERS:

Led by singer Brooks Nielsen and music director/guitarist Matt Taylor, The Growlers have forged their own twisted path on the global music scene since their founding in 2006 in Dana Point, California. They’re the party band that grew into a traveling circus, spawning their own annual event (Beach Goth) and growing an international fanbase, while releasing six studio records that trace a line from garage psych ballads to edgy radio pop. On their first three records – Are You In Or Out? (2009), Hot Tropics (2010), and Hung at Heart (2013) – The Growlers combined reverb-rich waves of vintage surf rock with the dark, slow-burn melancholy of outlaw country. Chinese Fountain (2014) introduced a new, disco-infused direction that saw them move away from their swampy roots and relocate to Los Angeles.
