Kara Alloway – Real Housewives

Listen to Kara Alloway and Vaughn Lowery talk about her past experiences at Allure Magazine as well as Real Housewives on 360 MAG Spotify/Apple podcast.

Kara Alloway is an Executive Producer, Reality Television Personality, Fashion Journalist, and Author. After completing her formal education at Canada’s McGill University, Kara moved to Los Angeles (CA) to serve as Allure Magazine’s Assistant West Coast Editor. Lately, Kara Alloway is trending online for being a popular reality star.

Under the tutelage of ALLURE’s founder Linda Wells, Kara worked as the assistant West Coast Editor. Subsequently, she participated in reality franchise REAL HOUSEWIVES. Based off her very first appearance on RH, it was evident that she would fast become an audience favorite.

During our discussion, Kara highlights some interesting facts about being a performer in that world. “When you do reality shows it is also, in my opinion, doing improvisation,” she says. Kara innately understood the inner workings of creating television content. Thus, she approached the show as playing a ‘character.’

The self-proclaimed Regina George of Toronto is offering a peek behind the curtain as an expert on the genre–not only because of her experience as a Housewife herself–but also as a TV producer. Lately, George was featured in a music video poking fun at herself, entitled Real A$$ Housewife.

Currently, Alloway lends her name in support to numerous charities. And, she works as the marketing director for her husband’s company. After a year hiatus, she began content curation for, Sparkles & Feathers & Newsprint, covering beauty and fashion.

Rupaul's drag race for 360 magazine.

New Season of RPDR

By: Skyler Johnson

Rupaul’s Drag Race, the hit competition series on VH1 revolving around drag queens, recently entered its fourteenth season. Fourteen new queens have set foot in the workroom over the span of two episodes, each from very different backgrounds and upbringings. Some are pageant queens (participants in drag pageants, similar to beauty pageants) and some are club queens (queens known for performing in clubs). Either way, they want to snatch the crown. Here is everything you need to know about this season’s competitors.

Alyssa Hunter

Alyssa is this season’s only Puerto Rican queen, though many queens from the island have been successful in the show, including Yara Sofia, Alexis Mateo, and Cynthia Lee Fontaine. Hunter competed in, and won, all four of Puerto Rico’s biggest pageants, and became known for her sense of fashion.

Angeria Paris VanMichaels

VanMichaels hails from Atlanta, Georgia, and is a pageant queen. Described as a “Southern Belle serving fierce fashion and face with a country charm,” Angeria already appears to be a frontrunner in the competition with a mini- and maxi-challenge win under her belt (and all in one episode).

Bosco

Bosco, from Seattle, has a lot to live up to given she’s from the same city as Drag Race royalty Jinkx Monsoon and BenDeLaCreme. Bosco identifies as the “demon queen” and “skanky alternative girl” from Seattle. Her drag character is seductive and elusive, and she takes a lot of inspiration from movie villains. She considers herself a “millennial Elvira.”

Daya Betty

Daya Betty, the drag daughter of season 12 runner-up Crystal Methyd, is notable for her punk rock aesthetics. Betty has already produced several intriguing looks, including a stone bust look for her Entertainment Weekly interview.

Deja Skye

DeJa Skye is a camp queen from Fresno, California. She has a passion for, “food, makeup, and everything fabulous.” She works as a dance and cheer instructor during the day, so you’ll know she’ll produce some sickening dance moves on the main stage.

Jasmine Kennedie

Kennedie is this season’s only New York representation. In interviews with her competitors, the other queens noted her to be the season’s most dramatic queen, so it’ll be interesting to see how she’ll do.

Jorgeous

Jorgeous, from season 14, is both the youngest competitor (21) and the shortest. She’s a fashion queen from Tennessee, popular as a club queen as well as being a noted dancer.

June Jambalaya

One of the many Los Angeles-based queens to come out of this season, June Jambalaya is originally from Jacksonville, Florida, and is influenced by the South and The Real Housewives franchise, the latter being where she crafted her drag persona.

Kerri Colby

Colby, self-described as an “otherworldly ‘alien’ goddess from the ‘7th dimension,’” is notable as a pageant queen and the drag daughter of Sasha Colby, a famous drag queen and winner of Miss Continental 2012. She’s also a member of the Haus of Colby, a popular drag family. Known for her beautiful visage, she is a clear contender for the crown.

Kornbread “The Snack” Jete

Kornbread is a camp queen popular in the LA club circuit. She first gained internet notoriety acting in the videos of popular sketch comedian Brandon Rodgers playing various characters. Beloved amongst other LA queens for her energy and fun personality, it’ll be intriguing to see where this season takes her.

Lady Camden

San Francisco’s Lady Camden, originally from Camden town in England, is a British queen known for being ladylike in her fashion and choreography, but bawdy in her humor. A ballet dancer, she once performed in Smuin ballet. She is also the third ever queen from San Francisco (the other two being Rock M. Sakura and Honey Mahofany) and is the show’s oldest contestant at 31.

Maddy Morphosis

Morphosis, from Arkansas, is by far the most controversial queen of the season, and one of the most controversial contestants of all time in the series, for being the first cisgender straight man to enter the competition. Many fans of the show have spoken against her for this reason, given Drag Race is known as a safe haven for members of the LGBT community. She currently has a partner, who is also a drag queen, and worked at Target before entering the competition

Orion Story

Michigan camp queen Orion Story describes her drag style as “chaotic,” and “what you get when you put Barbarella on a runway on Sesame Street.” She also won Miss Michigan Drag Queen of the Year, and is the first Michigan queen to grace the runway.

Willow Pill

Willow Pill is a comedy and camp queen from Denver, known for her offbeat sense of humor and surreal performances, such as in “Digital Drag Show,” a trippy, weird video on her Youtube channel. She is also the drag daughter of season 11 winner Yvie Oddly.

She’s been married for nine years and is the mother of three children, including a newborn daughter. Never one to be underestimated, she is full of sass and ready to make her mark in Potomac.

Meet the new housewife: Wendy Osefo

Dr. Wendy Osefo is the essence of a Renaissance woman— professor, political analyst, and entrepreneur. As a Maryland native, Nigerian-born Wendy joins the ladies of “The Real Housewives of Potomac” this season. With her strong personality, she knows how to hold her own and speak her mind when it comes to standing up to the other ladies.

Wendy’s life and upbringing embody the ultimate immigrant journey. Growing up with a single immigrant mother who put herself through college, Wendy learned first-hand the value of hard work and never thought of excuses or failure as options. Now an award-winning Nigerian-American television personality and progressive political analyst, she is on a quest to fulfill her insatiable appetite to succeed and obtain the American dream. Wendy received a Bachelor of Arts from Temple University, a Master of Arts from The Johns Hopkins University, a Master of Science from Rutgers University, and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) from Rutgers University, where she made history by becoming the first black woman to earn a Ph.D. in Public Affairs/Community Development.

Wendy is also a philanthropist who has sought to give back by supporting the next generation of leaders as the founder and CEO of the 1954 Equity Project, LLC, which provides tools, mentorship, and resources to underrepresented minorities to help them thrive in higher education. Wendy is currently a professor at the Johns Hopkins University School of Education specializing in urban education and politics. Prior to joining the faculty at The Johns Hopkins University, Wendy served as the Director of Family and Community Engagement for President Barack Obama’s anti-poverty initiative, DC Promise Neighborhood Initiative. When she is not busy traveling to exotic destinations or on date nights with her hubby, Wendy loves to cook for her family. Wendy also has a penchant for interior design and hopes to start her own home essentials line in the future.

Wendy has been married for nine years. She and her Nigerian husband, attorney Edward Osefo met as teenagers, were friends for several years before making it official after graduating college, and have been together ever since. They have three beautiful children together, seven-year-old son Karter, five-year-old son Kruz, and the newest addition to the family, newborn daughter Kamrynn.

Can plastic surgery make you look older?

According to expert Board-Certified Plastic surgeons, the goal of cosmetic surgery is to make a woman like look a refreshed, enhanced version of herself. While many seek cosmetic surgery to turn back the clock; (a respectable, personal choice) there is a downside. The eerie expressionless, puffy, distorted, look that makes people appear even older than they are. To help us understand and achieve a more maintained, elegant look, we tapped the expertise of Board-Certified Denver Plastic Surgeon Dr. Manish Shah.

Most Common Culprit… Too Much Filler

According to Dr. Shah, the best way to begin is to look at photos of the person decades younger to assess their aging progression and facial symmetry. “You want to look at the facial features to see where there is drooping or volume loss as not to run the risk of over filling the face. When too much filler is used, facial balance is thrown off.”

Dr. Shah explains that today we’re seeing young women in their 20’s trying to look like they’re photo filtered in real life. “They start Botox too young, or overfill their lips, breasts, and derrieres. The odd consequence is that that end up looking older. There are several celebrities who are under 25 and look 30, and 35 due to the work they’ve had done. The lips and cheeks are often the first facial features to be overdone in younger patients.”

Facial Breakdown

Cheeks: Dr. Shah says, that “Over-suctioning cheeks through liposuction can make you look older. Stiffness or “puffy cheeks” can also occur if there is unnecessary fat transfer or filler injections are overdone.”

Brows: A highly arched eye brow, or a brow without any arch can instantly age you. “Getting the eyebrow height perfect to achieve a natural look is one of the most challenging techniques plastic surgeons face with Botox, be sure to find someone who specializes in brow area Botox.”

Chin: “The overall balance of your face can be thrown off if a chin implant is too large,” says Dr. Shah. He adds, “Facial structure goes from more of a heart shape to a square shape. Also, the softness of your face gets lost.”

Neck: Removing too much fat from the neck can result in an excessive deep and sharp angle that gives more of a harsh look.

Midface: Some women get a facelift before it’s needed. Think of many of the stars of Bravo’s Real Housewive’s franchise. “When it’s unnecessary or not done properly, the underlying facial tissues give an unnatural fullness in the cheeks that makes the face look aged, explains Dr. Shah.”

Eyes: Fat removal under the eyes is popular in younger patients. The problem is that removing too much fat can really make a patient look hollower rather than refreshed.

Injectable Toxins: The Frozen Look

Botox, Dysport and Xeomin are all effective in reducing lines by temporarily paralyzing facial muscles to stop movement. Problems arise when they are overdone. The face can look very severe and certain facial features can become exaggerated. It is strange to see a woman over 50 with fewer forehead and brow mobility than a pre-teen!

Dr. Shah offers a tip and reminds us that injectable toxins are not permanent, and the result will fade away in time. “It’s best to let the product completely wear off before getting injectable toxins applied to the face again. It’s always best to start off with much less because you can always work your way up to more,” he advises.

Too Large Breast Implants:

Implants that do not fit a woman’s frame and are overexaggerated, are never a good idea at any age. The older a woman gets, the more this is going to scream, “look at me” and be incongruous with the rest of her appearance. Jane Fonda is a perfect example of a woman in her 80’s with implants that match her body in a flattering way.

Ignoring Your Hands and Décolleté:

So many women make the mistake of obsessing over their face, legs, derriere, breasts, and abdomen that they completely forget their hands and décolleté. The latter are a dead giveaway of age, no matter how young the rest of you looks.

Examples of Elegance:

According to Dr. Shah, here’s who he feels has “gotten it right” when it comes to aging gracefully whether they have had plastic surgery or not include, Jane Fonda, Jennifer Aniston, Jennifer Lopez, Halle Berry, Angela Bassett, Katie Couric, Raquel Welch, Kathie Lee Gifford, Kris Jenner, Naomi Campbell, Michelle Pfeiffer, Jayne Seymour, Ellen DeGeneres, Sharon Stone, and Padma Lakshmi. Use these celebs for inspiration when contemplating cosmetic enhancements.
