Masego – Mystery Lady × Don Toliver

Today, Masego releases “Mystery Lady” ft. Don Toliver. The track is the final single off his upcoming EP, Studying Abroad, out this Friday, November 13th via EQT Recordings and Capitol Records. Crisp and flirty, “Mystery Lady” is a joyride through love-filled dreams featuring Masego’s breathy croons and Toliver’s slick wordplay.

Studying Abroad is a concept experience that lyrically chronicles a relationship from sultry start to its explosive finish. The highly-anticipated six-track collection shows Masego evolving in real-time, an expansion both in terms of production choice and collaborative partners. Sonically, it explores uncharted territory by sampling from an international palette of sounds and styles. Featuring an eclectic group of producers like D’Mile (Usher), Jack Dine (Stormzy), Jonah Christian (Nicki Minaj), IzyBeats (Mala Rodriguez) and Kojo Asamoah (Ari Lennox), who have their own unique sounds and influences, Studying Abroad shows a new and reflective side of the “musical polyglot” (LA Times).

Previously released singles “Passport” (Vice Music’s “Best Songs to Usher In Fall”) and “Silver Tongue Devil” (ft. Shenseea) will appear on the adventurous new EP. The tracks together have already accumulated over 6.5M global streams combined across platforms.

Studying Abroad is the official follow up to Lady Lady, Masego’s 2018 debut that firmly put the singer/producer/multi-instrumentalist on the map or, all over the map, to be precise: In the almost two years since its release, Masego has toured the world, headlining sold-out tours and starring on festival stages across every continent but Antarctica. The album was no less of a success with listeners: “Tadow,” the lead single, has surpassed half a billion streams and been certified gold by the RIAA; that same song has been used in over two million videos creates on TikTok; and the project cemented him as a name to watch in the burgeoning generation of like-minded Black musicians, with features and collaborations across marquee projects from the likes of Kehlani, Dreamville, KAYTRANADA and more.

PRAISE FOR MASEGO

Masego – Silver Tongue Devil

Today, Masego shares Silver Tongue Devil, the latest track off his upcoming concept EP, featuring “Jamaican Princess of Dancehall” (The Guardian) Shenseea and his signature saxophone licks. The song invites fans and newcomers into the mythical mind of the artist at a crossroad: What to do with such a silver-tongued devil, who may or may not be a former flame?

On October 14, a week following this release, Masego will share his Lyric Video for the track featuring footage shot in Mexico by Loug Delcy.

Silver Tongue Devil arrives less than a month after Masego made his return with Passport. In both Japanese and English, Masego laments the monotony of quarantine on what VICE Music dubbs as one of the “Best Songs to Usher In Fall” and NPR Music calls “a bittersweet anti-pandemic sentiment made palatable with [Masego’s] smooth voice.”

The upcoming project is a tropical journey through every aspect of a relationship, from beginning to end, showing off a new and reflective side of the artist. At the moment when Masego’s whirlwind touring life has suddenly been forced to a halt, he’s chosen to take this time to look inward and explore what he finds, both topically and sonically. The result is a body of work that shows Masego evolving in real-time, an expansion both in terms of production choice and collaborative partners. It is Masego’s most ambitious, enjoyable effort to date and his most refreshing interpretation of traphousejazz yet.

The forthcoming EP is the official follow up to Lady Lady, Masego’s epic 2018 debut that firmly put the singer/producer/multi-instrumentalist on the map or, all over the map, to be precise: In the almost-two years since its release, Masego has toured the world, headlining sold out tours and starring on festival stages across every continent but Antartica. Spillage Village – Spilligion

Spillage Village will release its highly anticipated album “Spilligion” Friday, and they released a brand new song Monday titled “Hapi” to build excitement.

The song features the vocals of Mereba, Olu and Benji along with spoken word from Big Rube.

Clocking in at over six minutes, “Hapi” almost sounds like a sermon delivered by four different voices telling the stories of their lives, everything they’ve seen and everything they hope to see improve.

They also released the track list for the brand new album which comes with a few pleasant surprises in the form of features from Chance The Rapper, Ari Lennox, Buddy, Masego and Lucky Daye.

As “Hapi” might indicate, the song titles come from scripture and religious texts and are determined by the content and messages of the lyrics.

The official track list is as follows:

  3. PsalmSing
  4. Ea’Alah (Family)

Masego – Passport

Masego released a brand new song Wednesday from his upcoming experimental EP inspired by trapphouse jazz.

The new song is titled “Passport,” and it comes with a brand new music video that you can see by clicking right here.

Masego will use that trapphouse jazz inspiration to explore every step of a relationship, showing his evolution, both as a person and as an artist, while unable to perform for crowds.

His brand new EP will follow up his 2018 album “Lady Lady,” which propelled him into the spotlight. Listeners have streamed “Tadow,” the leading single from “Lady Lady,” over half a billion times, making it certified gold by the RIAA. It was also used in over 2 million TikTok videos.

Masego also gained traction after performing his song “Queen Tings” on the BET Awards Broadcast, which you can see by clicking right here.

MASEGO – VEG OUT

Masego releases “Veg Out (Wasting Thyme).” The piano-driven trap plea for rest and peace is the latest view into Masego’s ever shifting, melting pot psyche and his confidence in flow and lyricism. “Veg Out” is a taste of new music to come later this year.

The video for “Veg Out (Wasting Thyme)” is also out now. The playful visuals see Masego grooving around his Los Angeles home as a fish-eye lens pans to reveal several versions of “Veg Out” cleverly spelt out using apples, sweet potatoes, lemons, peppers and more.

Watch/ share HERE.

Masego recently released “King’s Rant” and celebrated his global hit “Tadow” earning an RIAA Gold Certification. His recent NPR Music Tiny Desk session surpassed five million views and sees him jamming out on his saxophone and running through a selection of his hits from “Tadow” to “Queen Tings,” bringing energy and even comedic levity to a set where Masego is in his element.

Praise for Oliver Malcolm & “Switched Up”

“A sleek hybrid of rap and R&B” — FADER

“The drums lurch toward the offbeats, some looped guitar picking tugs against that pulse and Malcolm’s voice is a rattled, quavery moan…Everything stays off-kilter for the two and a half paranoid minutes of “Switched Off” by Oliver Malcolm” — New York Times, Playlist

“Oliver Malcolm’s ‘Switched Up’ Is Intoxicating… new single ‘Switched Up’ is a mesh of influences, a confluence of sounds, a mosaic of techniques.” — CLASH

About Oliver Malcolm

Oliver Malcolm got his start early, teaching himself how to spin records at 12 years old. Shortly after, he downloaded Logic and taught himself how to produce – working with IDK, Aluna George, Joey Bada$$, Jay Rock, Masego Tinashe and more. Now twenty, Oliver has developed his own voice. Touching everything from the production, vocals, songwriting, engineering, mixing and mastering,  Oliver’s sound is unique and does not fit the mold of one genre.
