CRSSD’s commitment to pushing top tier techno acts this fall continues as they invite one of the genre’s most influential figures, ENTER icon and minimal techno pioneer Richie Hawtin to the City Steps. The stage’s four on the floor legacy continues with legendary Cocoon founder and special guest Sven Väth, in-demand Italian headliner Joseph Capriati, genre super-player Reinier Zonneveld, the iconic deadmau5’s Testpilot alter-ego, a live set by heavy-hitting German producer and Herzblut Recordings owner Stephan Bodzin, new wave industrial techno artist VTSS, and BBC R1’s next gen champion Jaguar.

The CRSSD experience extends beyond the stages, with fans able to enjoy craft food and cocktails from a variety of vendors, go for a dig at the CRSSD record shop in partnership with LA’s Stellar Remnant, experiment with new gear with a chance to meet the lineup’s artists at the Tech Center, or explore all Downtown San Diego has to offer before and after the show.

BUKU Music + Art Project, New Orleans’s premiere multi-faceted boutique music festival, announced the lineup for BUKU: Planet B, a one-time-only fall iteration of its flagship spring event. Planet B offers up an alternative way to dance through the rabbit-hole of BUKU on the banks of the Big Easy. Aiming to celebrate the resiliency of New Orleans and the triumphant return of live music, BUKU: Planet B is purposefully boutique in size but captures the expansive multi-genre curatorial ethos of BUKU, welcoming over 50 acts to its creative playground on October 22-23, 2021.

For the past decade, BUKU has fostered a boutique festival experience that proudly reflects the diverse and progressive subculture of New Orleans. It’s birthed the #BUKREWE, a community of festival lovers, carnival kings and queens, ragers and twerkers, that come in all shapes and sizes, flowing together along the banks of the Mississippi. Those in the know can attest to the wild costumes, unhinged self-expression, and myriad of personalities that set the BUKU vibe from start to finish and have made it one of North America’s most authentic places to party.

Continuing its melting pot approach to curation, BUKU: Planet B welcomes a lineup that spans genre and style. Topping the bill are some of modern music’s biggest stars like powerhouse hip-hop icon Megan Thee Stallion, melodic bass music’s ultimate champion Illenium, pop-punk vocalist Machine Gun Kelly, experimental rapper Playboi Carti, and Memphis rap chart-topper Pooh Shiesty

As you would expect in New Orleans, dancing takes center stage at Planet B with the cutting-edge eclecticism of producers Kaytranada and Jamie xx, Australian dance music producer and vocalist Alison Wonderland, and the trio of bass titans Zeds Dead, Subtronics, and SVDDEN DEATH: VOYD. Adding to the diverse vibe, Chris Lake and Purple Disco Machine will also treat the #BUKREWE to their discography of genre-defining house heaters.

Forward-thinking live performances remain in focus at Planet B with feel-good frequencies from singer Still Woozy, bone-crushing vibes from industrial rap/metal artist Ghostemane, next gen star British singer-songwriter and poet Arlo Parks, genre-bending rap/electro-pop performer Ashnikko, and high-energy rappers EARTHGANG, Flo Milli, slowthai, Yung Baby Tate, and $NOT.

As a barometer for the sounds taking over tomorrow, BUKU: Planet B welcomes breakout stars like Remi Wolf, Dua Saleh, Moore Kismet, VNSSA, 박혜진 Park Hye Jin, TVBOO and others, plus over 20 local New Orleans acts in an effort to showcase and support the local arts community, including the first festival performance by Pell’s GLBL WRMNG collective.

“For the past year, we’ve watched our fans step outside of their comfort zones and persevere through weird times,” said Dante DiPasquale, BUKU’s co-creator.  “PLANET B is the result of us being inspired by them to do the same, and all of us at Team BUKU are excited to finally party with them again.”

Set against the uniquely New Orleans backdrop of the haunting Market Street Power Plant and the historic grounds of the old TwiRoPa venue, Planet B aims to harness the chaos of the last year and release it in the form of raw creativity. Attendees will be guided between multiple stage environments, a dizzying landscape of art installations, street-artist performances, and a multitude of surprises. Fans may find themselves mesmerized by a local graffiti artist, enhancing their costume with a custom face painting, joining a marching band procession, catching a pop-up breakdancing crew or just hanging with friends while gazing at the New Orleans skyline. It’s an urban oasis as much about oddities and community as it is about the headliners.

Civic duty too remains at the heart of the BUKU spirit, as the event organizers continue their Social Responsibility Commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment geared towards social justice, reducing the environmental impact of the event, and supporting New Orleans community organizations. BUKU doubled down on this commitment in 2020 alongside its charitable partner Upbeat Academy by launching their Take Action Project (“TAP”). Thus far, the project has completed three fan-mobilizing campaigns raising over $10,000 for racial justice, voting rights, and environmental sustainability organizations. BUKU will continue this mission in 2021 alongside Upbeat Academy, a non-profit that inspires and empowers New Orleans youth through music education, who also act as the beneficiary of proceeds from every ticket sold to BUKU or Planet B. Learn more about these programs here

BUKU: Planet B will be the ultimate release for music fans in dire need of connection and creative exploration. It will continue to provide an inclusive home for the technicolor characters that call New Orleans home while welcoming #BUKREWE far and wide to experience the city’s eccentric culture for themselves. Come and get it.

Q&A With Devault & BabyJake

Devault & BabyJake Release Double-Sided Singles ‘Tell Me’ & ‘Blue’.
Electronic deejay & producer Devault and rising star BabyJake have teamed together for double-sided dance singles titled ‘Blue’ & ‘Tell Me’ that are set to be released at midnight. The singles come fresh off a powerful year for both artists, as each released EP’s and collaborative singles in their respective fields. While Devault released a string of audio/visual experiences, most notably RUBY, and collaborations with Manila Killa and Griff Clawson, BabyJake teamed up with Dillon Francis for a small dance EP and debuted his first solo EP project ‘Don’t Give Me Problems, Give Me Wine.’
360 Magazine asked DEVAULT and BABY JAKE, who are also good friends, some questions about their collaboration.

Q&A WITH DEEJAY & PRODUCER DEVAULT AND MUSIC ARTIST BABY JAKE

How did you both get started in music? And when did you first meet?
Devault: I initially started DJ’ing around 12 years old when my older brother randomly brought home a small turntable set and I immediately fell in love. As the years went on and when I was around 18 years old, I decided to start producing, essentially with the mentality of making music that I couldn’t find in my library of current music. Making something exciting; and now we’re here. I first met Jake a few years ago through a mutual friend when he was visiting LA for one of the first times. He ended up crashing at my house for a period of time and we immediately connected.
BabyJake: I first started taking music seriously after I dropped out of college in 2016, but I’ve been flirting with it since I was 8 years old when I picked up a guitar for the first time. Sage (Devault) & I originally met through a mutual friend, Austin Tompkins, when I first arrived in LA. I ended up sleeping on Sage’s couch for 3 weeks, maybe longer, and we’ve been friends ever since.

How would you describe your friendship and the dynamic between you two, did you always had the plan to one day work together and make a song?
Devault: I think we have mutual respect for each other, as when we met we were both figuring out our own paths in the music scene. I think we’ve both evolved greatly as musicians and as people. We always had the desire to make music together, but couldn’t find the right timing. Luckily, covid was almost a blessing in disguise as it allowed us to jam together for a few days with no pressure and these songs came out of it.
BabyJake: Yeah for sure. We always wanted to do something together, we just needed to wait for a good time to do it. I’m sure we’ll make much more music together as well, I practically see Sage every other day.

Which music artists inspired you? Where did you find inspiration for the two songs ‘Tell Me’ and ‘Blue’?
Devault: Depeche Mode, Daft Punk, and Jamie XX are some of my biggest inspirations. Music that is immediately recognizable to them and them only and that has become a mantra of mine. For our songs, we wanted to just have fun really, get out of our comfort zone and just make genuine dance records, while still retaining our styles.
BabyJake: Honestly there are too many artists to count that inspire me. That being said, I think the inspiration for these songs was less about who we wanted it to sound like & more about what feeling we wanted to establish to the audience. Whatever that feeling is, I’d say we captured it.

What three words would you use to describe your sound?
Devault: Moody, Emotive, & Ethereal
BabyJake: Not sure what 3 words I’d use to describe the records… I’d say everything that comes from Devault is somewhat emotional & deep.

A lot has happened in the last two years for both of you. Baby Jake, you released your first EP and Devault, you did remixes for Rihanna & Maroon 5. What was your personal highlight?
Devault: My personal highlight was releasing my first EP ‘Stay’ in 2018. This felt like it was finally a moment to identify me as not just an electronic artist, but as a genuine musician who can paint an entire world.
BabyJake: My personal highlight was a deep album cut named “Anywhere.” Even though it didn’t do crazy numbers, the production & experience of recording a completely live song with a choir, organ, drums… you name it… was incredible. That was definitely a high I hadn’t experienced before.

What is the thing you missed most during lockdown?
Devault: Missing live shows dearly.
BabyJake: Live shows. I was supposed to be on tour so that’s a real bummer.

What other artists do you want to collaborate with in the future?
Devault: A dream would be working with Toro y Moi or Blood Orange.
BabyJake: Definitely want to keep working with Sage, also wouldn’t mind doing some more electronic features with some other talented producers. This is a hard question for me because I feel like collaborations just kind of happen with friends and/or artists you are close with. I never really force it or think about it, it just happens.

Finally, what’s next?
Devault: Next is my second vocal EP, it’s nearly done and looking to get it out at the beginning of next year. Very excited about it.
BabyJake: An album. Finally.
Their double-sided single ‘Tell Me’ and ‘Blue’ will be released tonight at midnight!!! You can download on all digital platforms and follow them on Instagram,@itsbabjake and @devaultmusic.

The Avalanches New Album

The Avalanches announced a release date Monday for their latest album titled “We Will Always Love You.”

The new album will release on Dec. 11 and explores the vibrational relationship between light, sound and spirit and examines the human voice.

The announcement is accompanied by two brand new songs from the group. The first is titled “Music Makes Me High” while the second is titled “Take Care In Your Dreaming” and features Denzel Curry, Tricky and Sampa The Great.

The Avalanches have had a busy year already, collaborating with Blood OrangeRivers Cuomo, Pink Siifu, Jamie xx, Neneh Cherry, CLYPSO, Sananda Maitreya and Vashti Bunyan. They also plan to announce more collaborations in the coming months.

“Take Care In Your Dreaming” is about dreams that go unrealized and the unexpected twists and turns of life. It played Monday on Zane Lowe‘s Apple Music show.

“Music Makes Me High” uses the unlikely pair techno-funk music and a gospel choir to immerse listeners completely into the upbeat track.

Though the two songs don’t come with music videos, they do come with “visualizers.” You can see the visualizer for “Take Care In Your Dreaming” by clicking right here the for “Music Makes Me High” by clicking right here.

The Avalanches × The International Space Orchestra

Today, The Avalanches and The International Space Orchestra (ISO) come together to share their collaborative music video for the Australian alt-rock/electronica pioneers’ new track, “Wherever You Go” ft. Jamie xx, Neneh Cherry and CLYPSO. The video, filmed live during lockdown, is a meteorite shower of space science, planet-poking and harp-playing spacecraft operators coming together with The Avalanches’ Robbie Chater and Tony DiBlasi in the most cosmic collaboration imaginable. The clip, which marks the first time The Avalanches have appeared in a music video, can be viewed here.

Robbie Chater and Tony DiBlasi of The Avalanches say “We are forever grateful to Dr. Nelly Ben Hayoun-Stépanian and The International Space Orchestra for a truly magical, inspiring and connective experience. During a hard lockdown, it has renewed our faith in music, humanity and the power of connection, science and love.”

“We have so much respect for all those at NASA and SETI Institute and the work they do pushing the boundaries of human exploration, in trying to find the answers to the universe, and who and what lay beyond our neighborhood.”

As part of a musical collaboration, The Avalanches also worked on developing a sonification of the Arecibo message created by SETI Institute co-founder Frank Drake, who shared the original message with the band.

“We would also like to thank Dr. Frank Marchis and Dr. Frank Drake for all their help in deciphering the Arecibo message for inclusion on our upcoming project. It’s the first time this message has been translated into music,” added Chater and DiBlasi.

Created in 2012, ISO is directed by SETI Institute Designer of Experiences Nelly Ben Hayoun-Stépanian along with musical director Evan Price. Under Ben Hayoun-Stépanian’s leadership, ISO has performed sold-out shows on some of California’s most prestigious stages, including San Francisco Symphony Hall, The Fillmore and the Hollywood Bowl with world-renowned, Grammy award-winning artists such as Bobby Womack, Damon Albarn, Beck, Sigur Rós, Maywa Denki and Savages.

Of the collaboration, Ben Hayoun-Stépanian says, “The Avalanches have been working on a space inspired album for a few years now. Researching sounds coming from space, they came across the brilliant work developed by our scientists at the SETI Institute and by the International Space Orchestra. Very quickly, it became apparent that our musical collaboration should focus on further inspiring new perspectives and desires to understand the universe. In the current context we could not make our performance happen in real life, but we decided to make it happen regardless and this performance is the result of our online meetups. We hope that our performance will allow for further curiosity and interest to research further galaxies and extraterrestrial intelligence and life. Working with The Avalanches has been our greatest honour, one of the most cosmic experiences we have encountered. Robbie and Tony are truly inspiring, kind, caring and just too brilliantly talented. Thank you to them for having us at the International Space Orchestra and the SETI Institute a part of their outer-space musical journey.”

Released in July 2020 by Astralwerks, “Wherever You Go” ft. Jamie xx, Neneh Cherry and CLYPSO is an epic track that begins with greetings from planet Earth, sampled from The Voyager Golden Record, a gold-plated copper disk launched into space by Voyager 1 and 2 in 1977. The New York Times said,  “The track moves from buzzy, beeping, tinkling abstraction to a thumping dance floor,” while PASTE Magazine hailed “Wherever You Go” as one of the “Best Songs Of The Week.”

The Avalanches – Wherever You Go

The Avalanches shared two new songs from their forthcoming album along with a pair of stunning visualizers. “Wherever You Go” feat. Jamie XX, Neneh Cherry and CLYPSO premiered in the U.K. earlier today on the BBC 6 Music’s breakfast show.

The Avalanches, with co-production from acclaimed UK musician/producer Jamie XX, have created an epic track that begins with greetings from planet Earth – sampled from The Voyager Golden Record, a gold-plated copper disk launched into space by Voyager 1 and 2 in 1977 – and erupts in a frenzy. Vocals from the iconic Neneh Cherry and Sydney-based troptronica producer CLYPSO capture this moment in time, when love and music still offer hope in the face of “the whole damn world incinerating.” Mick Jones (Big Audio Dynamite, The Clash) plays piano on the track.

“Reflecting Light” feat. Sananda Maitreya and Vashti Bunyan examines the sounds that haunt our lives and reverberate through space. Sananda Maritreya’s deeply soulful vocals evoke transformation amid a cosmic audio swirl that incorporates a sample of “Glow Worms,” which originally appeared on influential English singer-songwriter Vashti Bunyan’s 1970 debut album, Just Another Diamond Day.

The Avalanches unveiled their first new music since 2016’s Wildflower – the track “We Will Always Love You” feat. Blood Orange, which was praised as “a plush compendium of longing” by The New York Times. “Running Red Lights” feat. Rivers Cuomo & Pink Siifu followed in March, earning attention from Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, NME, Billboard and The FADER, among others. The accompanying video was created in loving memory of David Berman, and stars dancer/choreographer Erik Cavanaugh with a cameo by Hollywood billboard queen Angelyne.

On their groundbreaking debut, Since I Left You, The Avalanches presented the world with a totally unique sound, crafted by meticulously combining over 3,500 vinyl samples. This approach set a precedent for dance music, inspiring a whole generation of musicians and producers. Released in Australia in 2000 and in the U.S. and the U.K. in 2001, Since I Left You is now regarded as a modern classic, It was named one of the year’s best albums by critics around the world and later placed in the Top 10 of Pitchfork’s Top 200 Albums of the 2000s and in the Top 20 of Rolling Stone’s Greatest EDM Albums of All Time. The video for the title track won Best Video at the 2001 MTV Europe Music Awards and was named as one of the top music videos of the 2000s by Pitchfork.

The release and subsequent touring in support of Since I Left You was followed by a 16-year radio silence, which was broken with the release of The Avalanches’ sophomore album, Wildflower (Astralwerks). It debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Vinyl Albums chart and atop the Australian Albums chart in 2016. Wildflower earned six ARIA Award nominations and international acclaim, with The Guardian hailing it as “a joyous journey” and Pitchfork proclaiming it “better than just about any music ever made” and “an album that could have been made by nobody but the Avalanches.” About Astralwerks: Established in 1993 in New York City, Astralwerks was the brainchild of Caroline Records staffers who saw an opportunity for a label focused on the nascent electronic and ambient scene. Now based at the historic Capitol Records Tower in Hollywood, Astralwerks has emerged as a modern, artist-first label and the #1 market share leader for dance/electronic music in the U.S. Combining a scalable, independent and global-thinking ethos with the ability to tap into the resources of a major label has enabled Astralwerks to sign such artists as ILLENIUM, Jonas Blue, Alison Wonderland, EDEN, ZHU and Alesso. As a testament to its pioneering approach, Astralwerks has amassed 30 GRAMMY® nominations, taken home six GRAMMY Awards and had historic releases from the likes of The Chemical Brothers, Swedish House Mafia, Halsey, Porter Robinson, Phoenix, Eric Prydz, Fatboy Slim and many others. The label has also released such massive singles as the 5x Platinum “Happier” by Marshmello + Bastille and FISHER’s “Losing It.”

For the past five years, the III Points team has produced coveted Art Basel concerts including James Blake, Jamie xx, A$AP Rocky, fka Twigs, Nick Murphy and Kendrick Lamar.

III Points Presents is an experience-based concert production company committed to curating vanguard talent, non-traditional venues and artist installations for unique and unreplicable events. Challenging the conventional experience of live music, III Points Presents has a roster of highly curated events ranging from intimate shows to the signature III Points Music Art & Technology festival in October. This years’ sold out festival featured a lineup anchored in diversity, with headlining sets from Gorillaz, The xx, Nicolas Jaar, Richie Hawtin, Kaytranada and Bonobo.
