George O’Hanlon – How Are You Feeling

Rising UK singer/songwriter George O’Hanlon makes his 2022 debut with his new single “How Are You Feeling?” available now via Harvest Records. Listen to “How Are You Feeling?HERE.

The single finds inspiration from rock icons like Radiohead, Springsteen, Nirvana and Slowdive. Throughout the track, intricate guitar work combined with an uplifting chorus makes it one you’ll want to give a listen to. “How Are You Feeling” also comes as the introduction to George’s full touring band on a single.

As a songwriter, George is able to showcase his true talents in the single. He states, “The song is about how you find your path as a person, especially during your late teens early 20’s, and the ups-and-downs that come with that. To me it’s a really positive song about people finding their way.”

About George O’Hanlon

Gaining practice through performing in the college circuit, George O’Hanlon has been perfecting his craft for quite some time. Working on his music by performing and writing for the past few years, George launched his career in 2021 with his debut EP, The Storm. While his musical inspirations range from artists like Bob Dylan, Jeff Buckley and Thom Yorke, George’s music has natural literary soul. He captives his fans by referencing his own life experiences, outlining them in new perceptions.

While rising as a budding talent in the UK music scene, George has gained affirmation from Abi McCarthy at BBC Introducing and Jack Saunders at Radio 1. You can find George typically performing at grassroots venues, while he toured the UK last September with his band. They traveled to small venues around the UK together. Noting the experience, George exclaimed, “We spent hours with four of us crammed in a car with all our gear. The tough bits are service stations at 3 in in the morning and things like that but playing the shows made it all worth it.”

You can catch George performing at his first US show at Austin’s South by Southwest Festival.

Sam Johnson – Peter Pan

Following on from the success of his previously shared single ‘The Kids Are Alright’, which landed on Spotify editorial playlists Fresh & Chill, Pop Right Now and New Music Friday in the UK, Germany and Switzerland; Apple Music’s New Music Daily in eleven countries, and named Record Of The Week on BBC Radio Shropshire, British singer and songwriter Sam Johnson has now returned to deliver his next wistful offering ‘Peter Pan’, Listen HERE.

Lifted from his forthcoming new EP ‘Are We There Yet?’, ‘Peter Pan’ follows largely in the footsteps of ‘The Kids Are Alright’ with its broad and atmospheric tones. Matching wistful piano and guitar melodies with his own rich and soaring vocals, his newest gem looks to confront the issues of addiction and depression by taking on the persona of a close friend who has experienced these feelings first hand.

Speaking about his new release, he said, “Originally written for one of my friends as a tale of his struggles with addiction and depression, my friend and collaborator Odd Martin suggested that I write the song as if his life were my own and to therefore lyrically step into his shoes, prefacing every sentence with ‘I’. Suddenly the song blossomed into an amalgamation of both our lives and experiences. Having grown up in the same town, gone to the same school, and shared lots of the same friends, my friend and I had been cut from a very similar cloth, and yet grown apart in our twenties. I likened his tale to one of my favourite novels; ‘Peter Pan’, and also my own fear of leaving childhood behind. Naming the song and constructing its metaphor around the aforementioned “boy that never grew up” therefore seemed like the perfect antidote.”

Taken from Sam’s forthcoming EP, his latest collection is set to see him grow more as an artist and a human being throughout. “I create characters influenced by what I see around me,” he says. “A lot of the lyrics are touchstones of my childhood, and where I grew up… and the people that I grew up around.”

Earlier this week Sam Johnson was announced as a member of the Ivors Academy Youth Council. The newly formed Youth Council is made up of sixteen young creators from the Academy’s Youth Network, acting as an advisory group, which will form a central role in shaping the future of the Academy. The Academy’s Youth Network, which was established last autumn, is a growing and connected community of young creators and a hub of partnerships with Universities, Colleges and other non-academic organisations. The Network aims to empower and educate young songwriters and composers of all genres, and provide a platform at the Academy to voice views on music industry issues.

A driven and relentlessly ambitious artist, Sam Johnson’s story also owes a debt to chance. Fate dealt him an unusual card when Kevin Shields – My Bloody Valentine auteur – crossed his path, taking the fledgling talent into the studio for the very first time. “That was a real moment for me… that developed my backbone. It made me want to have that element of legacy. And he made me realise that it could be done.”

A country boy lost in the big city, Sam’s music has taken him from a rural setting to the London metropolis, but he’s driven by an extraordinary sense of purpose. ‘Are We There Yet?’ is a tightly bound EP, one where each passage speaks to the next. Overseen by My Riot at RAK Studios, the production is left deliberately raw, almost unfinished, so that the songs “could breathe, without over-cluttering it too much”.

Ivy Adara, which amassed nearly a million streams on Spotify in just one week, and appeared on coveted playlists like New Music Friday and Best of the Week. Having recently completed “The Gravity Tour” — his biggest North American headlining run to date — Gryffin has a series of major festival dates lined up for this spring and summer, including his highly anticipated second appearance at Coachella. At the end of 2018, SLANDER embarked on their headlining “The Headbangers Ball” North American tour, selling out each date including two shows at the esteemed Hollywood Palladium on January 11th and 12th. The duo was also featured on the cover of LA Weekly the very same month. See full list of tour dates below.

Gryffin made his breakthrough in 2016 with two singles showcasing his melodic take on dance music: “Heading Home” ft. Josef Salvat (which shot to #1 on Spotify’s US and Global Viral charts) and the Bipolar Sunshine collaboration “Whole Heart.” In addition, his 2017 smash single “Feel Good” — with Illenium and featuring Daya — peaked at #18 on the Dance/Mix Show Airplay charts. Gryffin’s recent triumphs include “Tie Me Down” ft. Elley Duhé (an August release that hit #2 on the Spotify US Viral Chart and #9 on the Global Viral Chart, with over 80 million streams to date) and “Remember” ft. Zohara (a November release that garnered 6.5 million streams in its first few weeks and earned support from Tiesto, who featured the track on an Instagram story).

Def Jam Recordings to Release The Hate U Give Official Movie Soundtrack

Def Jam Recordings, the iconic label and global brand synonymous with hip-hop culture, partners with 20th Century Fox on Oct. 12th release of the Official Soundtrack to the highly-anticipated film The Hate U Give.

Def Jam Recordings’ next generation of stars, Arlissa and Bobby Sessions, join an all-star cast cast of contemporary and legendary artists including Kendrick Lamar, Pusha T, Logic, Jadakiss, and Tupac Shakur for the official soundtrack of The Hate U Give.

Arlissa and Bobby Sessions introduce new, previously unreleased songs on the soundtrack, which Variety raves, “cleverly mimics the film’s outlook by oscillating between snatches of 2Pac and modern R&B;” South London-bred, 25 year old siren Arlissa, who appeared in the August issue of Vogue, experienced her first real taste of success with her breakthrough track “Hearts Ain’t Gonna Lie.”

Arlissa’s defiant anthem “We Won’t Move” from The Hate U Give soundtrack garnered early buzz at the Toronto Film Festival premiere of T.H.U.G., with Toronto’s NOW exclaiming “the soulful ballad has got ‘Oscar nominee’ written all over it.”

Listen to it here!

“It’s been a true honor to be involved in something so significant and relevant to today’s social climate…I was one of the millions of people who were deeply touched by the book, so to be able to contribute to the movie, which shines such a strong light on inequality, has been a responsibility I’ve taken with such pride and care. This is not just a film, this is education,” says Arlissa.

Fiery Dallas rapper Bobby Sessions, who NPR raves, “confronts racism with a captivating flow that’s both acrimonious and awe-inspiring,” and whose debut EP “channels the anger and despair that accompany the cycle is systematic racism” according to XXL, performs the eponymous title tune, “The Hate U Give.”

Shaping up as one of the fall season’s breakout movies, The Hate U Give stars Amandla Stenberg as Starr, a teen who is constantly switching between two worlds: the poor, mostly black, neighborhood where she lives and the rich, mostly white, prep school she attends. The uneasy balance between these worlds is shattered when Starr witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil at the hands of a police officer.  Now, facing pressures from all sides of the community, Starr must find her voice and stand up for what’s right. Amandla’s original song “Always” closes out the soundtrack.

The Hate U Give also stars Russell Hornsby, Regina Hall, Issa Rae, KJ Apa, Algee Smith and Sabrina Carpenter, with Common, and Anthony Mackie. The film was directed by George Tillman Jr. (NotoriousMen Of Honor), and produced by Robert Teitel, George Tillman Jr., Marty Bowen, and Wyck Godfrey.  The Hate U Give, whose screenplay was written by Audrey Wells (A Dog’s PurposeUnder The Tuscan Sun), is a Fox 2000 Pictures, State Street Pictures, and Temple Hill Entertainment production, distributed by 20th Century Fox.
