Joy Crookes' Skin via Epic Records for use by 360 Magazine

Joy Crookes – Skin

BRIT Award nominated singer/songwriter Joy Crookes releases her highly anticipated debut album, Skin.  The 13 track body of work includes previously releases singles, “Feet Don’t Fail Me Now,” “When You Were Mine,” “Skin,” and the newest, “Trouble.” Get it HERE via Epic Records/Insanity.

With Crookes credited as an executive producer on the album, alongside the formidable Blue May (Blood Orange), Skin is a hugely personal, game-changing body of work from one of the UK’s boldest and brightest young talents. A collection of songs built and honed throughout her adolescence and into her early twenties, and finished last year within the most turbulent of circumstances, Skin touches on topics such as mental health, relationships, and politics all with grace and sensitivity. Crookes has created a truly special body of work that is both perfectly of the moment, and entirely timeless. Skin’s album artwork is shot by Carlota Guerrero, who has previously worked with Arca, Chloe x Halle, and Solange for all of her imagery for A Seat At The Table.

Already, the album has garnered Crookes a massive amount of acclaim worldwide. British Vogue has dubbed her, “undoubtedly one of the most exciting artists to emerge in the music scene this year,” while The Guardian has praised her “effortlessly nuanced and individual melodic sensibility.” I-D has praised her music as “powerful” while Complex has noted her “soul-stirring vocals,” and Billboard has similarly highlighted her “unfaltering vocal performance.”  The New York Times in a recent profile may have summed up Skin best:  “Crookes offers listeners a nuanced and candid exploration of her multiracial identity. At a time when many conversations about race in the arts and calls for change have only recently begun, Crookes’ commitment to vulnerability in her storytelling has helped her connect with a growing—and loyal—fan base.”

Up next, Joy Crookes will tour the UK later this year in celebration of the new album; the run kicks off in November in Brighton and extends into next year when she will take the tour to Europe. Full list of dates below.

River Kittens – Soaking Wet EP

RIVER KITTENS SHARE DEBUT EP SOAKING WET PLUS OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO FOR TROUBLE, RIVER KITTENS TO JOIN THE ALLMAN BETTS BAND ON TOUR, STREAM/PURCHASE SOAKING WET

Today, St. Louis based duo River Kittens are thrilled to release their debut EP Soaking Wet via Devon Allman’s Create Records, recorded at the legendary Sun Studios in Memphis, TN.

We were so thrilled for the opportunity to work with Devon Allman on Soaking Wet. It was truly a blast from start to finish. We can’t even describe how honored and humbled we are to have tracked these songs at Sun Studios. It was so surreal for us to be able to add our small contribution to the history of such a legendary space. We really feel that this record is quintessentially River Kittens, brutally honest, tons of fun, and slow and sweet when it needs to be

I’m so proud of what River Kittens accomplished on this debut EP, says Allman. They have this amazing balance of pure, poignant depth mixed with this infectious, upbeat approach to their music that I think many people will resonate with. It was an honor to produce their introduction to the world. Very proud to have them on my label and we expect great things from these talented ladies.

Along with the release of the band’s debut EP, the duo is thrilled to share the official music video for Trouble

Hitch a ride with us and let us guide you through this long, strange trip back in time…buckle up baby!

About River Kittens

River Kittens, Allie Vogler and Mattie Schell sound like they’ve been singing together their entire lives. They sing like angels and fight like sisters, even though the pair first met and sang together at a metal bar in 2014. They’re salty and sweet, and sometimes sour too, but their two unique approaches blend together perfectly. River Kittens’ effortless harmonies and honest songwriting can move an audience to laughter or tears, sometimes both.

NAWAS Release New Track: “She Knows”

Just today, Louisiana-bred, Nashville-based trio NAWAS release a new track “She Knows” vial all digital partners. It is available to stream and download HERE.

The sleek, soulful track was written by NAWAS and produced by Grammy Producer of the Year nominee John Hill (Portugal, The Man, Demi Lovato)

“She Knows” is the first new music from NAWAS since the band released its debut EP Trouble last year, which followed in the wake of their well-received singles “Wrong,” “So Low,” “Make It Work,” and “Who Are You.”

“‘She Knows’ is a new direction for us as a band. After touring last year and receiving so much encouragement and support from fans and listeners, we were excited to get back in the studio and work with John Hill, who brought out new musical elements in us that fit our desires perfectly,” says front man Jake Nawas.

Brilliantly mashing up elements of electronic music, hip-hop, and R&B, NAWAS sound is built around Jake Nawas, shape-shifting vocals, Ben McDaniel’s crystalling guitar work, and Joey Gonzales powerful yet minimalist drumming. Bringing rule-breaking originality to their silken production, NAWAS push the limits of pop with daring and darkly charged lyrics that lend each track an unforgettable depth.

A video for “She Knows” will be released in the coming weeks, followed by more new music throughout the fall.

What critics are saying about NAWAS:

“‘So Low’ is beautifully produced with smooth beats and an R&B-esque tempo. The direct, contemplative lyrics are delivered in (Jake Nawas) bewitchingly androgynous falsetto”FADER

“(NAWAS is) primed and ready to rattle speaker systems.”EARMILK

“‘Wrong’ is a dense, sparkly track featuring heavy bass and fluid guitar riffs that find the medium & between Prince’s androgynous melodies and Calvin Harris’ euphoric bangers.”SPIN

“‘Who Are You’ is as inspired as it is excitingly new. Front-man Jake Nawas’ androgynous singing is on fire on this track, and the instrumentals backing him up are as epic as they are illustrious. ‘Who Are You’ is exactly what you’d want from a fun summer song.”BAEBLE

NAWAS RELEASE DEBUT EP – TROUBLE – TODAY ON HARVEST RECORDS

VIDEO FOR NEW SINGLE “WHO ARE YOU” PREMIERES TODAY
NAWAS JOINS MAX FROST ON TOUR THIS FALL

Louisiana-bred, Nashville-based trio NAWAS release their debut EP – entitled Trouble – today via all digital partners, available to stream and download here. Watch the video for their new single “Who Are You” which premiered today here. The video was directed by the bands frequent collaborator Steven Worster and filmed in Nashville. NAWAS will join Max Frost on a North American tour beginning September 29th in Dallas. The run will include performances at Brooklyn’s Rough Trade on October 11th and wrap at The Echo in Los Angeles on November 8th (see below for all dates).

On Trouble, NAWAS approach pop music with both immaculate songcraft and rule-breaking originality, blending elements of electronic music, hip-hop, and R&B. Throughout Trouble, the band, which is vocalist/songwriter Jake Nawas, guitarist Ben McDaniel, and drummer Joey Gonzales, brings a layered complexity to its lyrics, a dynamic embodied in the soulful title track. “There’s a line in that song that goes ‘Trouble always follows me,’ which is a theme that runs across all of the EP,” says Nawas. “There’s a dark side to it but there’s something deeper there too – and sometimes trouble can be a good thing.”

NAWAS recorded the bulk of the EP in their adopted hometown of Nashville, joining forces with Grammy Award-nominated Sainte to expand their sound with more intricate textures and undeniably massive hooks, as well as Tim Anderson (Twenty One Pilots, Halsey) and Daniel James (Nicki Minaj, Selena Gomez).

Trouble arrives following a string of singles, including breakthrough track “Wrong,” which hit No.1 on Hype Machine and was praised by SPIN for “find[ing] the medium between Prince’s androgynous melodies and Calvin Harris’s euphoric bangers.” Their debut track “So Low,” was hailed as “beautifully produced” by The Fader, who also made note of Nawas’ “bewitchingly androgynous falsetto.” NAWAS has landed on Spotify’s most coveted playlists (including New Music Friday, Weekly Buzz, Discover Weekly, and Fresh Finds) and is fast approaching one million combined streams. Earlier this year, they released the track “Make It Work” and their single “Who Are You,” which appears on Trouble.

The tracklisting for the Trouble EP is as follows:

1) Who Are You

2) Running

3) Trouble

4) Waves

5) Galaxy

6) White Hot

Multi-platinum recording artist, DEV is set to release her sophomore album, I Only See You When I’m Dreamin’ (IOSYWID) September 8, which is available for pre-order now HERE! Fans who pre-order the album will receive two new songs, the sassy-sweet “All I Wanna Do,” and the female anthem “Come At Me.” This will mark DEV’s first album to be released simultaneously to retail and streaming platforms. With a crew of collaborators that include Sarah Hudson (Katy Perry, Halsey, Rita Ora), MNDR, Marko Penn and producers Sam Sumser, Ritual, Isaac Valens and Mike Mac, the album finds Dev reclaiming her bass-heavy hip-pop beats that shot her to chart stardom, but with a reinvigorated sense of singer-songwriter swagger.

(Album artwork; Photo Credit: Maezee Tailes)

“All I Wanna Do” prompts the familiar Dev-like bounce, while lyrically the track ventures into Minaj-worthy raunch, but it’s Dev’s vocals and harmonies that shine through the sass. “The balance of how bouncy it is, but with how sexy and girly the lyrics and melody are fit really well,” Dev says of the track. “Usually a lot of male driven songs will usually be like ‘I wanna F you!’ so this will be so fun to perform from my point of view.” The additional release, “Come at Me” is somewhat of a yin to “All I Wanna Do”’s yang. Lyrically, Dev urges a “don’t-take-any-BS” attitude over a highly catchy melody.

In it’s entirety, IOSYWID, serves as ode to Dev’s past—the good, the bad, the fun and the sad. Inspired by dreams and thoughts about those who she has since lost touch with, the vibe of the album radiates a theme of self-reflection from her current perspective. Dev takes listeners on a full-circle journey from late night sexting (“Drunk Texting” – OUT Thursday 8/4!) to piano-laden heartbreak (“Alone Again”)

This full-length album follows Dev’s break-out 2012 debut album, The Night the Sun Came Up, which features the platinum “In the Dark,” and landed her critical acclaim, spots on influential end-of-year lists, numerous brand syncs and commercial success. In 2013 and 2014 she released two complimenting EPs, Bittersweet July Part I and Bittersweet July Part II. 2016 saw the release and success of “#1” f/ Nef the Pharoah, which peaked at #15 on the rhythmic radio chart. With over 350M video views, a Billboard #1 hit, multi-platinum & gold certified song successes, and countless collaborations, IOSYWID promises to propel Dev as the sleek, speak-sing, pop pioneer of her generation.

Q&A’s

Tell us about your new album. How did it come together? Who did you work with?

  • My new album! It’s called I Only See You When I’m Dreamin’ and I had an awesome opportunity to work with a bunch of different people on this project. Amazing artists, writers and producers. Everyone involved in this album helped to push me out of my comfort zones and create everything I could’ve wanted. I had such a specific vision for this project. I was having vivid dreams of someone who I no longer speak to and these songs reflect that person and specific moments of my past. I’m so happy with the overall outcome and I’m so excited for everyone to listen!! Shout out to Marko Penn, Isaac Valens, The 87’s, MNDR & Rey Reel

—Do you have a favorite track or tracks on the album? Why?

I love them all for different reasons! There’s some slaps, some with more emotional vibes and even a couple voice notes from people close to me. It was a process of gathering these songs over the course of two years so they’re all special to me.

—It’s been 5 years since your debut album. Since then you’ve put out some mixtape EPs and singles. Why the long gap in between LPs?

  • Honestly, the timing never felt right to release album 2 until now. I had been through a lawsuit for a year and a half where I couldn’t release music, my daughter was born with a gnarly birth defect that had us living in and out of the hospital, I never stopped touring and I was in the studio a bunch, so everything felt very intense for a few years. I needed to keep living, experiencing and finally come around to putting together songs that felt right. I had the opportunity coming off of having successful songs in the past to be true to myself and be patient. And one day the list of songs came together, the title and I knew it was right!

—How have you changed since your debut album? Musically and personally?

  • I’ve grown up a bit since my first project. I’ve grown more aware and appreciative of life and opportunity. I still love to pop bottles though lol! But I think the lessons I’ve learned in the past 5 years have been crucial to me becoming the BEST ME & I’m getting there.

—How do you think your fans will react to this new body of music? And do you feel like it’s different from the previous music you’ve put out?

  • I hope they’ll love it! I hope it makes them happy and want to have a good time! I think this project isn’t as “dancey” if you will – as my first project, but the core of who I am is still very present. Times have changed and music continues to change, so there’s obvious differences, but it’s still allllllll me!

—Can fans expect to see you on tour soon?

  • Yes! I’ll be announcing dates very soon! I can’t wait to get back on the road.

—Any fun stories from the studio you can share?

  • So many fun times recording this project! I’ll never forget the night I was working on ‘come at me’ and when I was finished we opened all the doors to the outside are and played it super loud and I remember feeling infinite. All of a sudden all the crazy shit I went through in the past 5 years didn’t matter/we’re okay. I felt strong. I’m sure the neighbors hated that I played it 100 times haha but I couldn’t help it. It was awesome. That feeling is why I make music, it’s pretty indescribable.

—What are the most important lessons you have learned on your journey in the music industry?

  • The most important lessons: stay true to yourself, no one else can ever be you even if they try! Surround yourself with the right people, people who believe in you even when you might slightly question yourself. Work hard and then work even harder. And live in the moment! Music is a magical thing.

—Any particular people you’d like to collaborate with in the future?

  • Robyn. Karen O. Nelly Furtado. Gwen Stefani. Flume. Mnek. Mo. I don’t know I’m a fan of so many people!

—Describe the sound of the new album.

  •  It’s light. Wild. Fun. Top down on an unexpected road trip type album.
