About Black Thought

As Co-Founder of The Roots, a critically acclaimed solo artist, actor, writer, producer, and creator, Tariq Trotter, aka Black Thought, has quietly affirmed himself as one of the most prolific, prescient, and powerful voices in hip-hop. Over the course of his career, he has won four GRAMMY Awards and three NCAAP Image Awards. Not only did he deliver eleven applauded albums with The Roots, but the group also joined The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon as the house band and is now a beloved mainstay of late-night television.

Beyond collaborations with everyone from Eminem, John Legend, J Dilla, and Big Pun, Linkin Park, Logic, and Fall Out Boy, he co-produced the multiplatinum GRAMMY-award-winning, original Broadway Cast Recording of Hamilton. Alongside fellow The Roots co-founder Questlove, he launched the production company Two One Five Entertainment, executive producing the AMC documentary series, Hip-Hop: The Songs That Shook America. Teaming up with Academy-Award-winner John Ridley, he makes his theater debut with the musical “Black No More” in 2021.

His presence has also seamlessly translated into roles in film in television such as HBO’s The Deuce. Black Thought’s solo career accelerated at full speed with his “Streams of Thought” series in 2018. Pairing him with a legendary producer for each release, “Streams of Thought, Vol. 1 with Wonder generated millions of streams as Pitchfork proclaimed he “is somehow still improving decades after his peers’ primes, which in hip-hop sounds almost as crazy as a professional athlete doing the same.”

He joined forces with Salaam Remi on “Streams of Thought, Vol. 2” before returning with producer Sean-C for 2020’s Streams of Thought, Vol. 3: Cane & Able. Marking his debut for Republic Records, it features collaborations with Portugal The Man, ScHoolboy Q, as well as the lead single “Good Morning” feat. Swizz Beatz, Pusha T, Killer Mike. Lyrically dexterous, politically provocative, and consciously incisive, Black Thought encourages the game to move forward with him yet again.

Jadakiss x New Album Release Date

JADAKISS ANNOUNCES NEW RELEASE DATE MARCH 6TH FOR 5TH STUDIO ALBUM, IGNATIUS

NEW DEF JAM ALBUM FEATURES SINGLES “ME”, “KISSES TO THE SKY” AND HIGHLY
ANTICIPATED NEW SINGLE “HUNTIN SEASON”

“The New York hip-hop community is mourning the untimely passing of one of our brightest young stars, and I felt it was best to pause for a moment to come together and reflect. The IGNATIUS album means a lot to me – it celebrates the life of my brother Icepick Jay, another one we lost too soon. It was Jay’s dream for me to collaborate with Pusha T on a new song. The single we’d planned to release together – “Hunting Season” – is a lyrical metaphor about taking out MC’s in the rap arena, and we didn’t want anyone to confuse it with anything else. So out respect for Jay’s memory, for Pop Smoke’s memory, Pusha and I agreed to put this one on hold for a minute. You can hear it when the album drops on March 6th. Listen as it’s intended: two MC’s who love hip-hop, and have a lot of love and respect for the next generation coming up.” – Jadakiss

ABOUT JADAKISS:
For more than two decades, Jadakiss has been a hip-hop icon, a skilled lyricist revered and respected in New York City and nationwide. From his early days as part of the hip-hop group the LOX (with Styles P and Sheek Louch), Jada went on to blaze his own successful trail over the course of four essential albums: Kiss the Game Goodbye(2001, with “We Gonna Make It” featuring Styles P); Kiss Of Death (2004, with “U Make Me Wanna” featuring Mariah Carey, and “Why” featuring Anthony Hamilton); The Last Kiss (2009, with “Who’s Real” featuring Swizz Beatz and OJ Da Juiceman, and “By My Side” featuring Ne-Yo); and Top 5 Dead Or Alive (2015, with “Ain’t Nothin New” featuring Ne-Yo and Nipsey Hussle). There were collaborations with many major figures, among them Notorious B.I.G., Puff Daddy, Jay-Z, Nas, Mariah Carey, and the landmark project with Fabolous (Friday On Elm Street, 2017). Artists ranging from Eminem to Kanye West have named Jada as one of their favorite MCs ever to touch the microphone, hence the album title Top 5 Dead Or Alive. Outside of music, over the years Jadakiss has become an entrepreneur with several businesses in his hometown of Yonkers, New York, including a juice bar, clothing store and website.

Def Jam Recordings to Release The Hate U Give Official Movie Soundtrack

Def Jam Recordings, the iconic label and global brand synonymous with hip-hop culture, partners with 20th Century Fox on Oct. 12th release of the Official Soundtrack to the highly-anticipated film The Hate U Give.

Def Jam Recordings’ next generation of stars, Arlissa and Bobby Sessions, join an all-star cast cast of contemporary and legendary artists including Kendrick Lamar, Pusha T, Logic, Jadakiss, and Tupac Shakur for the official soundtrack of The Hate U Give.

Arlissa and Bobby Sessions introduce new, previously unreleased songs on the soundtrack, which Variety raves, “cleverly mimics the film’s outlook by oscillating between snatches of 2Pac and modern R&B;” South London-bred, 25 year old siren Arlissa, who appeared in the August issue of Vogue, experienced her first real taste of success with her breakthrough track “Hearts Ain’t Gonna Lie.”

Arlissa’s defiant anthem “We Won’t Move” from The Hate U Give soundtrack garnered early buzz at the Toronto Film Festival premiere of T.H.U.G., with Toronto’s NOW exclaiming “the soulful ballad has got ‘Oscar nominee’ written all over it.”

Listen to it here!

“It’s been a true honor to be involved in something so significant and relevant to today’s social climate…I was one of the millions of people who were deeply touched by the book, so to be able to contribute to the movie, which shines such a strong light on inequality, has been a responsibility I’ve taken with such pride and care. This is not just a film, this is education,” says Arlissa.

Fiery Dallas rapper Bobby Sessions, who NPR raves, “confronts racism with a captivating flow that’s both acrimonious and awe-inspiring,” and whose debut EP “channels the anger and despair that accompany the cycle is systematic racism” according to XXL, performs the eponymous title tune, “The Hate U Give.”

Shaping up as one of the fall season’s breakout movies, The Hate U Give stars Amandla Stenberg as Starr, a teen who is constantly switching between two worlds: the poor, mostly black, neighborhood where she lives and the rich, mostly white, prep school she attends. The uneasy balance between these worlds is shattered when Starr witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil at the hands of a police officer.  Now, facing pressures from all sides of the community, Starr must find her voice and stand up for what’s right. Amandla’s original song “Always” closes out the soundtrack.

The Hate U Give also stars Russell Hornsby, Regina Hall, Issa Rae, KJ Apa, Algee Smith and Sabrina Carpenter, with Common, and Anthony Mackie. The film was directed by George Tillman Jr. (NotoriousMen Of Honor), and produced by Robert Teitel, George Tillman Jr., Marty Bowen, and Wyck Godfrey.  The Hate U Give, whose screenplay was written by Audrey Wells (A Dog’s PurposeUnder The Tuscan Sun), is a Fox 2000 Pictures, State Street Pictures, and Temple Hill Entertainment production, distributed by 20th Century Fox.
