Arc Festival

For its 2021 debut, ARC Festival conjured the spirit of house music in the birthplace of the genre. The event united scenes and connected communities from around the world in a way that felt distinct to the creative history of Chicago. In 2022, ARC returns to the city on Labor Day Weekend with an expanded three day event and has announced its world-class lineup of movement leaders from around the globe.

ARC’s first edition offered a festival experience previously unknown to Chicago dance music fans. Aimed at fostering an immersive journey into the beating heart of the genre, attendees were guided between the technicolor containers of The Grid stage to the outrageousness of Spain’s Elrow, onwards to the deeper shades of Expansions. The result was a city-wide vibe that extended into premiere venues by night, earning the attention of the industry and leaving those out of the loop longing for ARC’s return.

This year’s lineup sees ARC further cement itself as a premiere stop on the global festival calendar. Some of electronic music’s biggest stars will take center stage including the inimitable Carl Cox, a special performance from Adam Beyer, Cirez D, songstress of the international techno movement Charlotte De Witte, Motor City icon Carl Craig, and UK mainstage originator Fatboy Slim.

Billing pushes into the avant-garde in 2022 with the Chicago debut of eclectic after hours maestro Ricardo Villalobos, Life and Death icon DJ Tennis, the deep and dark melodic sounds of Ann Clue, and The Other Side label head Maher Daniel.

The pinnacle of modern house remains a focus at ARC, as the show welcomes giants like Gorgon City, Chris Lake, Claptone, Get Real, Eats Everything, Justin Martin, and Vintage Culture. Melodic shades of house will also be on full display from the likes of Lane 8, Nora En Pure, Ben Böhmer, Boris Brejcha, and Gioli & Assia.

In accordance with global demand, some of the international techno scene’s most sought after producers and selectors will bring the hard hitting sound to ARC. Italian leader Joseph Capriati makes his Chicago return alongside ENTER’s Richie Hawtin, Brazil’s ANNA, Palestine’s Sama’ Abdulhadi and Enrico Sangiuliano rounding out the truly global affair.

Chicago house music remains the lifesource of the festival, the easel on which the city’s modern sonic history has been painted, and its unmistakable spiritual gift to the world. Fashion icon and midwest musical genius Honey Dijon will grace the ARC stage for the first time, alongside storied mentor of the Chicago sound Derrick Carter, Queen of Chicago house DJ Lady D, Farriswheel’s Gene Farris, Green Velvet of Get Real, Godfather of House music Chip E., fellow longtime veterans Ron Carroll and Mike Dunn plus next generation riser Kryptogram.

Spanish party outfit Elrow will make its return to ARC, bringing its renowned psychedelic production and outrageous surprises to Union Park in full force. Elrow’s signature stage design, performers and hijinx have made it one of the most celebrated brands in the world, touching down for bespoke events annually in Barcelona, Ibiza, New York, London, Dubai, Miami, Las Vegas, Sydney and many more key markets.

ARC will once again extend beyond the music, creating a cutting-edge experience that mirrors the culture and artistry of its host city. Attendees can expect curated production elements and art to guide them between each of the four immersive stage environments. The event will also act as a showcase of Chicago’s culinary prowess, offering an elevated and distinctly local event.

These efforts will be led by the Auris Presents team who bring collective decades of professionalism to the fold across their independent endeavors. ARC fans will also be treated to intimate after parties across Auris and ARC partner venues RADIUS, PRYSM and Concord Music Hall with others to be announced.

Getting a festival pass early doesn’t just lock-in Labor Day Weekend, it’s a ticket to stacking this summer with events in the spirit of ARC. Pass holders gain access to purchase tickets to sold out shows, private pre-sales, exclusively priced tickets, and the chance to guestlist at over 40 upcoming Auris Presents events this spring and summer.

Attendees can sign-up to be the first to get their festival passes HERE. General tickets will be on-sale March 17th with payment plans available now and travel packages coming soon.

The Dress

The short film, “The Dress,” which was directed by Tadeusz Lysiak, a student of the Warsaw Film School, has been nominated for the 94th Academy Awards® in the Best Live Action Short Film category. “The Dress” is a poignant story about the desire for love and intimacy, whose short-statured protagonist Anna struggles with social rejection because of her appearance. This is the second Oscar® nomination for its producer, the Warsaw Film School, an educational institution located in the heart of Europe.

Tadeusz Lysiak stated, “This is so surreal, I can’t believe this! I am so grateful to the entire film crew, my producers—Warsaw Film School and all the coproducers and good people that supported us. This is just out of this world. This film is a huge team effort, and it was made with student passion and [a] mission to change the world for the better. Thank you all for supporting us!”

Anna Dzieduszycka (lead actress) stated, “I want to say that I am very proud of us. I never imagined something like this, but now I know that nothing is impossible and it’s a wonderful feeling! Believe in yourself, respect and love each other.”

Working at a roadside motel, Julia doesn’t want to suppress her desire, sexuality, and longing for physical intimacy any longer. When a handsome truck driver comes into her life, her unrealized fantasies begin to come true. But “The Dress” is not just the story of a woman meeting a man. Julia, physically different from the society around her, experiences rejection and bullying. “The Dress” is a universal story about longing that affects everyone, regardless of the barriers and differences that divide us.

The movie was written and directed by Tadeusz Łysiak, a student at the Warsaw Film School. The production has screened at nearly 40 film festivals around the world and has won 18 awards. Awarded at the prestigious Atlanta Film Festival allowed “The Dress” to compete for an Academy Award® nomination.

The main actress Anna Dzieduszycka hopes that her role will be one step towards changing the perception of individuals like her on-screen: “I wish people stop using the word “otherness”, become more open-minded, and embrace diversity of viewpoints. […] Looks don’t matter. We all have magic inside us.” said Dzieduszycka. Her acting has been recognized at many festivals in Poland and abroad. Anna’s awards include the Grand Prize for Best Actress at Flicker’s Rhode Island International Film Festival

The Oscar-nominated title was created by a team composed mainly of students and graduates of the Warsaw Film School. The director, Tadeusz Łysiak, participated in the prestigious program FUTURE FRAMES—Generation NEXT of European Cinema within Eastern Promises at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. He is also a winner of the “Discovery Eye” award for Young, Talented Filmmaker at the Polish Film Festival in Chicago. Tadeusz Łysiak’s previous award-winning film “Techno” has had over a million views on YouTube.

The cinematographer, Konrad Bloch, is a graduate of Warsaw Film School. He was recognized for his work as a cameraman on the set of “The Dress,” among others, at the 45th Gdynia Film Festival—the award for Best Cinematography—the Bronze Tadpole at the Energa CAMERIMAGE Festival and the Best Cinematography award at the 38th Sulmona Film Festival.

The film is produced by the co-founder and Chancellor of the Warsaw Film School, director and screenwriter Maciej Ślesicki. He is the producer of many student films, including “Our Curse,” which was nominated for an Academy Award® for Best Documentary (Short Subject) in 2015. “The Dress” was also co-produced by DOBRO, MIŁO, and GŁOŚNO. The project was co-financed by the Polish Film Institute. “The Dress” is the only production this year from Poland that is up in the running for an Academy Award®.

The 94th Academy Awards® ceremony will take place on March 27th at the Dolby Theatre.

Subjective – The Start Of No Regret

Today, the production duo SUBJECTIVE, made up of legendary DJ and producer GOLDIE and revered engineer and producer JAMES DAVIDSON, announces their upcoming brand new album ‘THE START OF NO REGRET’, to be released on March 25th by Three Six Zero Recordings/Sony Music.

The upcoming new album from the duo spans genres and weaves its way in and out of drum & bass, techno, electronica and soul music, stitching tapestries together to create a soundtrack that would feel as at home in the club as it would vibrating through solitary headphones. The record, which features some incredibly exciting and varied names including neo soul up and comer Greentea Peng, south London alt-jazz hero Tom Misch, and British blues and soul vocalist Natalie Duncan, shows off both the rich history and calibre of Goldie and James Davidson individually but also how they can create something together that’s so cohesive and forward thinking. The sound the duo have been able to create is also partly due to their geographical locations over the past 18 months, bouncing ideas between Davidson’s studio in Bournemouth on the south coast and Goldie’s house in Phuket, Thailand; showing two songwriters and producers at the top of their game responding to a year and a half in very different atmospheres but similar trying circumstances.

On the album, Goldie said; “I really love the way that this album time travels through so many poignant aspects of mine and James’ life through rave culture,  jungle, drum & bass and indie influences over the last 20 years. I’m super happy with it and I hope that you will be too.”

‘Sunlight’, the second track to be taken from the album and featuring widely lauded jazz-soul vocalist Lady Blackbird, takes her sweeping vocal and lays it across delicate piano melodies and distorted drum & bass loops, creating a soundscape that feels ethereal as much as it does fast-paced and frenetic – watch the visualiser here. The lead single from the album ‘Dassai Menace’ (released with double A-side ‘Fathoms’), a pulsing, pushing instrumental which throbs with a unique club energy, was picked up by Virgil Abloh who used it to soundtrack his Louis Vuitton SS22 fashion film ‘Amen Break’ (watch here), with Goldie walking in the accompanying catwalk show.

Turbo from Kristin Robinson for use by 360 Magazine

TURBO × COCAINE + FIREWORKS

Today, country crossover talent Turbo releases his debut EP ‘Cocaine & Fireworks,’ available now via 10K Projects/Homemade Projects. The EP arrives after the growing success of his single “Bo Exotic” (also featured on the album) which has become a top pick on Spotify playlists like Country Favourites, New Music Nashville, It’s a Bop, and more for its catchy, tongue-in-cheek spirit. The album features standouts like the titular track “Cocaine & Fireworks” and the recent single “Zombiez.” The music video for “Zombiez” is out now, alongside the release of the EP.

A truly original and fearless artist, Turbo combines the gritty authenticity of outlaw country with hip-hop’s hard-hitting beats and rhymes and pop’s sticky melodies. Born Nicholas LaMonaca, 10K Projects/Homemade Projects signee grew up on country thanks mainly to his father (a famed guitarist in the international bluegrass scene) but felt drawn toward rap music and obscure electronic genres like hardstyle (a fusion of techno and hardcore).

At the age of 12, he started making his own music, a move heavily inspired by Avicii’s progressive-house classic “LE7ELS.” “Once I heard that song I couldn’t get enough of it,” Turbo recalls. “I was so obsessed, I ended up downloading FL Studio to try to recreate the melody on my own.” Although he instantly discovered a natural talent for production, Turbo put music aside for several years, then started producing again after graduating high school. “On my 18th birthday I bought a laptop and keyboard and set of speakers, and figured I’d have rappers come in and do their thing,” he says. “But after a while I just started winging it, making beats and rapping over them myself.”

As he pushed deeper into his artistry, Turbo began mining inspiration from left-of-center country singers like Colter Wall, a Canadian musician he stumbled across while stocking the shelves at his full-time liquor-store job. “Colter Wall has one of the raspiest, rawest, rudest voices I’d ever heard in my life, and it just completely took me over,” he notes. From there, Turbo tapped into his own country roots and created a full-length project titled Sixth Gear, a 2019 release featuring his breakthrough single “Light Speed.” Soon after YouTube curator, Astari shared the song’s video on his channel, “Light Speed” caught the attention of 10K, quickly paving the way for Turbo’s signing to the label, along with Homemade Projects.

Since then, Turbo has embraced even more confidence in his songwriting, thriving in the in-between of diverse genres. With tracks like his stunning debut “Heart Stop” and carefree summer jam “Bo Exotic,” Turbo has proven to be one of the most original and intuitive new artists today. “The more music I make and the better I know myself, the more I’ve realized that the best songs come from me sitting in a room alone and just taking my time—that’s how I come up with something honest and timeless,” he says. “I don’t really follow a particular process. Instead of worrying about any kind of rules, I just do what I want, and go with whatever feels right to me.”

Tracklist For ‘Cocaine & Fireworks’

  1. Cocaine & Fireworks
  2. Zombiez, featuring Landon Cube
  3. Racing After Me

Mikey Lion For The Love from Christina Hernandez and Desert Hearts for use by 360 Magazine

Mikey Lion – For The Love

Love—it’s one of the strongest and most universal connectors in our world. It’s also the driving force behind everything Mikey Lion does, from the music he crafts to the events he runs as the leader of Desert Hearts, to the circles he keeps. To honor this all-encompassing force, the artist today releases the full rendition of For The Love, his debut studio album, and the 100th release on Desert Hearts Records. A patchwork of nine tracks depicts Lion’s saga spanning from the day he discovered his true purpose, to the highs and lows of realizing it, and up to the present where he ponders on reaching the next chapter for himself and his community.

Before nurturing his brand and record label into the behemoth that it is today, a young Mikey Lion had been living with his parents and questioning the direction to take his life. Mesmeric album closer “Talking To The Trees” with its lush synth layers and gossamer vocals, sketches out how his path was revealed to him. During a fateful psychedelic trip, he was guided to spread love and community under the banner of House, Techno, and Love that fans know today. Desert Hearts was officially launched in 2012, and the rest is history.

Listen to For The Love here.

Elsewhere in For The Love, Lion reminisces on the moments and feelings that reaffirmed his direction. “When I’m With You,” a breezy vocal jam crafted alongside Lubelski and Jackson Englund, pays homage to blissful times spent with loved ones in and out of the rave. The peak time ready “Spot Freak” represents cheeky dancefloor moments with the crew via off-kilter synth effects, licks of acid, and hard-hitting percussion. “Above The Clouds,” which leads For The Love with dulcet melodies, is Lion’s interpretation of house music heaven—a feeling he seeks to emulate at each Desert Hearts event.

Trial arrived in Mikey’s journey in 2020, when the pandemic brought his and Desert Hearts’ momentum to a screeching halt. Written in minor key with tense buildups and heavy synthwork, “For The Love Of What” is the label head’s expression of this doubtful time, where existential crisis set in and he was left questioning what the point of it all was, and how the mission of spreading love would continue in the absence of shows.

Luckily, reprise was found within the dedicated community he built over the years. As Mikey led Desert Hearts into the virtual world, launching a TV station on Twitch, followers swiftly hopped on for the ride. He found himself reaching even more people across the globe with DH’s message of House Techno Love, receiving donations and pledges of support from across the globe, and interacting with the DH community on a virtual dancefloor. It was an affirmation of a different sort, but no less powerful, convincing him again that love and music would sustain him, regardless if the dancefloor was digital.

For The Love is ultimately a culmination of the triumphs and tribulations Mikey Lion has faced through the years since he first set out to bring the mantra of House, Techno, Love to a global scale—and is also a marker of an artist just beginning to step into his own sonically. Its timeless influences and multifaceted, yet polished sound design point to an artist who’s put in the work to master his craft. Through painstaking detail, instrumentation, and arrangement, Mikey manages to tell years’ worth of stories in just nine compositions.

At the end of the day, the lesson remains: community comes first always, and the decisions we make should be guided by, if not entirely, For The Love.

The unique five part series, which took almost two years to create, combines footage from the Oslo Spektrum stop on Walker’s Aviation Tour and a narrative arc from the Walker cinematic universe.

The film also features appearances by Walker’s collaborators Steve Aoki, Au/Ra, Isak, Iselin Solheim, Juliander, Julie Bergan, Omar Noir, Sophia Somajo, Tomine Harket, and Torine.
