For centuries, diamonds have captivated. For millions to billions of years, they have naturally formed, eventually being unearthed in alluvial and kimberlite deposits. Now, the chemistry of the diamond has been studied and perfected, and the popularity of lab grown diamonds has taken hold globally. Keystar Gems, one of the world’s largest and most influential manufacturers of stunning HPHT diamonds, is generating over 10,000 cts. of HPHT diamonds a month. This month, Keystar Gems is opening its inventory B2B to the US market, aligning with a pique in national interest around cultivated diamonds.

Within synthetic diamond production, CVD diamond manufacturers yield quantity, but rarely is this capability seen within the HPHT market. Aagna S. Ajmera, Chief Marketing Officer for Keystar Gems, says, “With over 10,000 cts. a month of HPHT (High-Pressure High-Temperature) diamond, many doors are opened for Keystar Gems, as a manufacturer. We never have to say no due to demand. Our quantities help us meet commitments in a timely manner, and we have very happy customers. Now, we are excited to bring our cultivated diamonds to the US, which currently has the largest market for man-made diamonds.”

Competitively priced for the trade, Keystar Gems offers a gateway for diamonds to enter the fashion market. “Middle-income consumers can easily purchase a lab grown diamond,” says Shivang S. Rao, Director of Keystar Gems, “Every day, we see young buyers and celebrities alike encouraging and demanding man-made diamonds, which are naturally conflict-free, and that is important to them. As businesses, we need to listen and make sure our customers see and are seen, educating them about the humanitarian benefits that go alongside the cultivated diamond market.” The Keystar Gems team, with 350+ employees, manufacturers diamonds ranging from 0.03 – 10 cts. in size, that are available in all shapes, colors, and clarities,

Minimalists Can Invest in These Essential Jewelry Items

Minimalism has inspired many great personalities over time. According to Nicholas Burroughs, “Minimalism is not a lack of something. It’s simply the perfect amount of something.” In the world of fashion, there are numerous designers and brands which religiously believe in the same ideology.

If nothing else, last year’s pandemic taught us the value of what is essential. People became aware of what truly mattered – whether it was the endless Zoom meetings and video calls, or a few essential jewelry pieces that helped women look presentable. We all are now aware that everything that we own is enough. We often fail to understand that less is more. A simple, yet beautifully designed, earring can enhance your entire aura in a way that a flashy earring cannot. A simple necklace can have a big impact, and make you feel effortlessly chic and unique.

Grand doesn’t necessarily always mean great. We all should have a few essential pieces of jewelry, and trust that they will suffice.

1. Shungite Earrings

Shungite earrings are a great, sustainable accessory. Wearers can also benefit from their various health and healing properties. The stone grants several advantages, but it primarily it helps to protect wearers from harmful electromagnetic fields (EMFs), due to using too many gadgets throughout the day. It also acts as a shield around the body to protect it from other negative vibrations. This stone balances the body’s flow of energies, and heasl the upper-body and root chakras. If you wear the Shungite earrings daily, your brain will be able to memorize more efficiently and increase your focus and productivity rate. Overall, you will surely notice the endless benefits and gain a positive outlook in life.

2. Tanzanite Pendants

The deep blue stone, Tanzanite, is one of the rarest and most intriguing stones. Originally, it is sourced from the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro, rooted to the heritage of Tanzania. Women can wear Tanzanite pendants if they wish to invite luck and prosperity into their lives. The durable stone is also known to be a thousand times rarer than a sparkling diamond and attracts positive energies into the wearer’s life. You can style the pendant effortlessly with any outfit to add enough shine and sparkle to your day. It can be worn for a dinner date as well, with a pair of dazzling danglers and a matching bracelet to complete the look.

3. Personalized Bracelets

Life’s most significant celebrations are marked by unique accessories. Women can use customized jewelry as a natural way to remember a moment or person. Accessories such as personalized bracelets, necklaces, or rings are undeniably a talisman for everlasting moments. Women can tailor the bracelet according to their personal interests, be it a small charm, crystal, or a birthstone. You can also accessorize the bracelet with a pair of chain links and metal strings of different textures.Or, you can also add a classic wristwatch to finish off for a formal look. However, the jewelry piece will look enticing on its own, too. This look is simple, unique, and meaningful.

4. Sterling Silver Chains

Sterling silver chains are a wise investment for those that want to create multiple looks using one piece of jewelry. Thrilling, isn’t it? The silver chain can be rounded into various layers for a heavier look or left as is. You can produce exciting new looks by adding drop pendants, gemstones, motifs, and charms for different attires and occasions. Or, if you’re not keen to experiment, style a simple chain all 365 days of the year to elevate your outfits effortlessly. Furthermore, this long strand of chain will elongate your neck.

5. Lapis Lazuli Necklace

Gemstones are believed to have powerful healing properties. Besides being allured to their natural beauty, these holistic properties make these stones especially attractive. This deep blue marine pigmented stone, lapis lazuli, was even used to create some of the world’s most renowned paintings; such as ‘The Girl With a Pearl Earring’ by Johannes Vermeer. Women who want to have a renewed sense of purpose in life, achieve spiritual enlightenment, and attract positive energies can wear the lapis lazuli necklace. It has an innate ability to stimulate a deep acknowledgment for personal growth and enlightenment. These assets can help a person reach a state of complete awareness in Nirvana. You can style the necklace with a casual outfit, perhaps with a blouse and denim, to give it a bolt of vivid color. Or, pair the lapis lazuli with your formal clothes to achieve a more refined look.

Oscar Stone LTD

By: Emily Bunn x Vaughn Lowery

Oscar Stone LTD is a family-owned jewelry firm based in the Bronx, New York. Oscar Stone sells timeless jewelry, including customizable earrings, watches, bracelets, pendants, chains, and mouth grillz, which are all created from the beginning to the end internally. Oscar’s most popular article, baguette diamond earrings, dazzle his clients with their blinding beauty. Oscar Stone recognizes the value of using durable diamonds and jewelry from the Bronx community.

While lockdown created a lull for other companies, Oscar used the downtime to bolster his burgeoning business. His reach on social media via Instagram featured Oscar to many celebrity customers, including Jojo Simmons, Young Dirty Bastard, and Kid Capri, among others. Oscar Stone‘s jewelry exudes a true dedication to his craft, which is why his extensive list of clients keeps expanding.

The last authentic district of New York, the Bronx, houses the next largest jeweler in New York. Oscar Stone LTD stands apart from other jewelers such as Jacob the Jeweler, Greenwich Street Jewelers, and Martin Busch Jewelers because of its innovative approach to bespoke jewelry and sustainable practices and inspirational dedication to their craft. Oscar’s relentless pursuit of fine diamonds and customer satisfaction during the pandemic has allowed his business to flourish more than ever. Looking to the future, Oscar aims to continue creating custom designs for his customers and grow his business to become a familiar name.

We talked with Oscar about his background in gemology, his favorite custom orders, and his business expansion plans in the Bronx.

How did you get started in making jewelry and performing gemology for Oscar Stone?

I’m a G.I.A. accredited gemologist. Basically, growing up my whole life, [my] family– aunts, uncles, cousins– we all just did jewelry. So getting the jewelry was the easy part. It’s a family trade, really; it’s one of our best-kept secrets.

How did you build your clientele when you began in the jewelry business?

I knew about jewelry; gold wasn’t something crazy new to me. It’s like all your aunts and uncles own auto repair shops–you fix a couple of the tires, do a couple of oil changes, and you just kind of figure it out by yourself. When I had my own spot, building my clientele did really start from scratch. I didn’t have any celebrities or influencers, so I just had to open up shop and see what I could do. Before I did that, I actually did go to GIA (Gemological Institute of America) diamond school. I knew that GIA offered courses for this type of stuff. I spent a couple of months educating myself–[even] just [concerning] diamonds; there’s so many things about diamonds.

Once I finished the education, I decided to really bring in some clients. I was in business for about three years, and then I just started going heavy on social media. Once I started publishing my work on social media, the followers started coming. You know, not[hing] crazy yet, but I started getting a couple thousand [followers]. That’s when the business started taking off. I started hiring friends of mine and a lot of people, [and] my staff grew from four or five people to like twenty-five people. Business exploded when I started getting people who were verified on Instagram and had 300–400,000 followers. Once I started getting those clientele, the ball really started rolling. And that’s where we are now, about a year later.

What celebrities/notable clients have you done jewelry work for?

I would say the biggest guy that I’ve done work for would be, Jojo Simmons from RUN–D.M.C. I’ve done work for Young Dirty Bastard, who is the son of Old Dirty Bastard from the Wu Tang Clan. [Regarding] household names, I’ve done guys as big as Tonio Skits and Darius D.K. [Also,] I’ve done work for [Kid] Capri.

How do you source the best diamonds/gems for jeweling?

I don’t always get the same diamonds from the same supplier. The reason is, once you start working with somebody for diamonds and you guys get comfortable, then they start sending you lesser quality parcels. A parcel is basically like a bag of diamonds, [which come in] a lot of different sizes. They should all be the same clarity, and you sort through them to see that the quality is consistent.

I can buy 50 carats of diamonds this month [or] this week, and then I’ll run out by making all the jewelry. And so, I need to reorder. If the quality starts to become inconsistent with the price that I’m paying, I’ll switch over to another diamond supplier. Most of my diamond suppliers are in India, so I’ve had to fly out there a few times and look at some parcels, look at some factories, and see how they’re all doing it.

[Or, for example,] if I have to build a watch and do it three weeks, and [clients] don’t give me enough time, I have to get [diamonds] local[ly].

What is your favorite jewelry design you sell?

My favorite designs [are] always the custom pieces I make. I always love doing custom work, I just love like how intricate they are. I just did a piece for a client of mine–it’s this huge custom piece that spins when you spin it. I’ve had the most fun working on it, that’s my favorite piece right now. I’m working on another one that might top it, but we’re gonna keep it under wraps for now.

What is your jewelry specialty?

My signature I would say is the baguette earrings, that’s what most people know me for. Out of all my followers, I would say 20,000 of them might have been from the baguette earrings.

I do really, really good with the baguette diamond earrings that are on my website. I could sell as many as 20 pairs a day. A lot of people [who] are from out of state buy that. A lot of people [come] in store as well. The baguette diamonds are just such a popular thing for me right now. I have to make hundreds and hundreds of pairs just to keep up with demand.

What is the most popular order you receive from clients?

The baguette diamonds are just like something you really don’t see out of New York. And so, people love them. It’s also my bread and butter…It’s gonna go, it’s gonna sell, and sell classic.

What’s next for you?

I’m going to be moving to another location on the Grand Concourse in the Bronx–I’m true to the Bronx, I don’t wanna leave the Bronx. So, I’m moving to a store that is down the block from me. It has three times the retail space, and a basement attached to it. I’ll be able to really put a factory down there. As long as the people keep loving my jewelry and what I do, I’m going to keep delivering the best I can. To do that, and to give the best prices, you need to do things in-house. I’m going to have a 1500 sq ft basement where I’ll be able to put ten diamond setters down there and set diamonds all day. The second floor will be an office to do all the online [work]. On the floor-level will be retail and the showroom, so people who want to see things in-person, I can show them right there. That is my short-term goal in the next one or two years. Long term, I want to be a household name, but one thing at a time.

Greg Grillz QxA

A glitzy collaboration between celebrity jeweler, Greg Grillz, and wide receiver for the NFL’s Pittsburgh Steelers, JuJu Smith Schuster, has resulted in a dazzling new line of custom grillz and high-end jewelry. The collection’s pieces are lovingly handmade in Los Angeles and available on Greg’s website. The duo also specializes in making one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces, such as customized chains, rings, watches, bracelets, and more. Brought together their friendship and a mutual appreciation for jewelry and fashion, JuJu and Greg’s partnership is a marriage of sport and luxury style. Here at 360 Magazine, we sat down with Greg Grillz and babbled about baubles, business, and big-name celebrity collaborations to come.

How did this collaboration between Greg Zaks, aka Greg Grillz, and JuJu Smith-Schuster begin? Who originally brought up the idea for a partnership?

Greg: I’m born and raised in Los Angeles and met JuJu through mutual friends while he was attending and playing football at USC. We immediately clicked. I was just starting in jewelry at the time and actually made him his first set of grillz. It was a simple gold bottom fang but that piece solidified our friendship. He loved them so much he asked me to make a custom pendant shortly after. Over the next few years we stayed in touch and JuJu kept an eye on my growth. One day he reached out and was curious to know more about my brand and the jewelry business. From there we had a conversation about working together which made it clear we had to solidify the partnership.

How did Zaks begin his venture into the jewelry business?

Greg: I have always loved and appreciated jewelry, but I never imagined being in the jewelry space until I reconnected with an acquaintance of mine who was a well-known jeweler back in 2013. As a college student, I began working him while his business was really taking off. He was like the don of Instagram back then, doing a bunch of jewelry pieces for celebrities like the Kardashians. I had a lot of ideas to improve the business that were rejected and shut down, so I came up with the idea to start my own company. This ended up turning into my prized possession, Grillz.

How did Zaks go about building such an impressive celebrity clientele and expanding his business?

Greg: When I started my business, I didn’t have any money–period. Which meant I couldn’t do any traditional ad campaigns. I made my way going out to various clubs in LA and connected myself with all the young up and comers. Everyone was growing together and looking to help each other, it was all very organic. Influencer marketing was key in the beginning stages. It’s given me notoriety and recognition in an industry that’s very dog-eat-dog. Using celebrities and influencers for shoutouts on social media in exchange for free jewelry and free grillz was everything.

For clients looking to order a custom grill, you are offering custom mold kits. What does the process of making a mold at home look like?

Greg: The process is very simple; we have created our own custom mold kits prepackaged with all the supplies necessary to do the teeth molds at home. We provide our customers with detailed instructions as well as an envelope with prepaid postage to send back to us. We have a high success rate and many people view the process as fun and easy. During Covid, this helped tremendously as many people were scared to meet in person. Being able to have mold kits delivered to customers helped eliminate a lot of the worry for people while still being able to create exactly what they wanted. We’d send the kits to the customer with instructions, they’d send it back with their design preferences and specifications, and a few weeks later, they’d have their own piece.

How do DIY molds for grills compare to having face to face consultations for custom grill pieces?

Greg: At Grillz, we have all the tools necessary for our customers to communicate exactly what they are looking for without the need for a face-to-face consultation. We have one of the largest online inventories of all private jewelry companies worldwide. We have everything from low end to high end merchandise in order to cater to our massive audience. Our merchandise includes solid gold and diamond earrings, bracelets, and necklaces. We have also recently expanded our collection to a wide variety of ready-made engagements rings. Overall, we have several ways of communications to ensure that all of our customers wants and needs are met.

When did Smith-Schuster’s interest in jewelry/style first begin? Is jewelry something he’s learned more about and recently become interested in, or has it been a passion project in the back of his mind for a while?

Greg: JuJu has always shown interest in fashion and jewelry. He stays up to date with the latest and greatest fashion trends. Thinking back on the first pieces I made for JuJu vs. what he’d be interested in now is a clear indicator of that. As long as I’ve known him, his sense of style continues to elevate as well as his taste in jewelry. By curating a more refined sense of style for himself, he is perpetuating our brand, as well as future partnerships.

What collaborations can we expect to see in the future from this partnership?

Greg: Currently we are creating a capsule collection with JuJu that will be exclusive to Grillz. We have many other future celebrity collaborations in the works with big names. We are constantly striving for greatness and looking to take our business next level.

3 JEWELRY TRENDS TO TRY OUT THIS SUMMER

The lovely, leisurely days of summer are almost upon us, and each new season brings the opportunity to try something fresh. Even if you haven’t been able to get out and shop for a summer wardrobe, never fear. Accessories offer a quick and easy way to making the old look new again, and they also add an instant touch of individuality to any ensemble. Whether you’re looking for yourself or in the market for Mother’s Day gifts, following are three of the hottest jewelry trends to try out this summer.

LARGE BAROQUE PEARLS

Traditional, round pearls are a classic that never goes out of style, but in 2020 baroque pearls are stealing the scene. You’ll see their edgy elegance cropping up everywhere this year. The term ‘baroque’ covers every type except round, from pearls as tiny as grains of rice to ones as big as eggs, and this year, the bigger the better. The unique shape of baroque pearls gives you the chance to express your personality, and it’s one of the reasons they’re so popular right now.

The unique, abstract quality of baroque pearls make them more laid-back than traditional ones; they give off a relaxed vibe that is perfectly suited to to lazy summer days. Avant-garde or vintage, worn layered or singly, baroque pearls make a statement and are the focal point of any outfit.

CHUNKY CHAINS

Just like with pearls, the ‘bigger is better’ trend holds true for oversize chains as well. There are so many options when it comes to wearing chains: as a necklace, they work equally well with V-necks, scoop necks and bra tops (which are another hot trend this year too). Chain chokers are super popular too, and they definitely make a statement. But even though chains look edgy — and literally have an edge — they can still be worn with eveningwear. Expect to find them in gold, silver and even black.

Chunky chains won’t be limited to necklines. You’ll notice them everywhere, from head to toe. Chain belts can be worn at the waist or slung low over the hips. For a more preppy look, you can add a chain to a second belt. Meanwhile, a chain strap for your hand bag is ultra-cool and retro, and adds a glint of glamor to any accoutrement. As for your feet, don’t be surprised to see chain anklets, some attached to shoes, others floating free and easy as a day at the beach.

COLORFUL GEMS

Diamonds may be a girl’s best friend, but in the summer of 2020, fashionistas are gaga for colorful gems. There’s a strong bohemian vibe going on out there so don’t be afraid to mix and match stones and metals. The more colors you add, the easier it is to coordinate with the rest of your wardrobe. Inject some color and let your inner flower child blossom.

Colored stones are also being selected for their spiritual meaning and healing properties. Try amethyst for its psychic powers or emeralds for rejuvenation.

Hot weather makes us want to strip down to the bare minimum as far as clothes are concerned, and this only gives your accessories all the more chance to shine. Whether you decide to go modern or retro, there’s something for everyone this year. The only rule is to pick what suits your style so you can enjoy it all summer long!

Auvere – Gold Jewelry

Carribean-American jewelry designer Gina Feldman Love, who is the Co-Founder of Auvere, a handcrafted gold jewelry line (22k and 24k pure gold). It aims to bring the ancient beauty of pure gold to the mainstream, empowering women to buy pure, high-karat gold pieces that they love–and can also make for a good financial investment.

Below, Gina breaks down the pros and cons of 10k gold which is just 41.7% gold all the way up to pure 99.99% gold.

  • 10 karat gold.  10 karat gold contains the lowest amount of gold that can be sold legally in the United States as “gold” — 41.7%.  Since it is mostly alloy, it has a silvery appearance and is highly susceptible to oxidation.
    • Pro:  It costs less than some costume jewelry.
    • Con:  With less than 50% gold content, it’s hard to call it real gold. It is not hypoallergenic, may trigger skin allergies and is very likely to oxidize and blacken over time.
  • 14 karat gold.  14 karat gold is 58.3% gold. The remaining 41.7% consists of alloys such as copper and silver.  It’s probably safe to say that 14 karat gold is the most common rate of gold jewelry sold in the U.S. because it is very hard and relatively inexpensive due to the high alloy content.
    • Pro: It is hard, holds pronged gemstones extremely well and is relatively inexpensive.
    • Con: It it is likely to suffer from oxidation and blacken over time. 14 karat gold may also trigger skin allergies.
  • 18 karat gold. 18 karat gold is 75% pure gold and 25% alloy.  What makes 18K gold popular among jewelers is that it possesses a richer gold color than 14 karat gold because of higher gold content but is hard enough to hold gemstones in tiny “high-rise” prongs.
    • Pro: 18 karat gold contains a sizable gold content, which makes it more lustrous than 14 karat gold. It holds pronged gemstones well and is used by top jewelers.
    • Con:  Because 18K is used by many top jewelers who charge margins in excess of  300% of the cost to make, you pay a lot more money for a lot less gold than you would if you purchased 22 and 24 karat gold from trusted direct-to-consumer brands.
  • 22 karat gold.  22 karat gold is 91.67% pure gold. We love it because of its high gold content and delicious golden hue.  On top of that, 22K gold is strong enough to make everyday jewelry that holds gemstones (just not in prongs).
    • Pro:  Almost 92 percent pure gold in every piece. Lustrous yellow color when compared to 14 and 18 karat gold.  Hard enough for every day use.
    • Con:  For those used to the subtle gold color in 14 and 18 karat gold, the deep yellow hue of 22 karat gold may be too much gold. But once you get used to the true color of gold, it is hard to go back.
  • 24 karat gold.  24 karat gold is the big daddy of solid gold jewelry.  Containing 99.99% pure gold, it is incredibly precious, rare and soft when compared to 14 or 18 karat gold.  But it’s the rarity and softness that makes for very special jewelry — pieces that mold to your form over time.  If you are someone who never takes off your jewelry or you put your jewelry through its paces, then 24 karat gold may not be for you.  But if you love the idea of wearing something rich, rare, pure and with more inherent value than 14 and 18 karat gold, then consider 24K.
    • Pro:  24 karat gold is the richest and rarest form of gold jewelry possible.
    • Con:  It is soft.  Not so soft that you can’t wear it. But soft enough that you have to take some care when you wear it.

Often buying gold jewelry is considered to be an investment because it doesn’t come cheap.

If you love gold jewelry, knowing how to buy gold jewelry helps you get the most value from your purchase.

What’s the Impact of Purity on Value?

A genuine gold bracelet for women will come with a specific figure to indicate how much pure gold it contains in percentage.

This could range anywhere from 10K, 14K, and 18K. The letter K represents karat. The higher the karat, the more expensive the jewelry piece will be.

Let’s take a detailed look at the karat percentage.

  • If your jewelry is indicated 24K, it means it’s pure gold
  • 18K jewelry comprises 18 parts of gold and 6 parts one or more extra metals. This makes it 75% gold.
  • 14K jewelry comes with 14 parts of gold and 12 parts of one or more metals which makes it 50% gold.
  • 10K jewelry contains 10 parts of gold and 14 parts one or more metals and this makes it 41.7%gold.
  • 10 karat in the lowest karat that can be said to be gold in the US.

Commonly Sold Gold Jewelry

You’re likely to find gold bracelets for women in various jewelry stores in the US.

If the jewelry you buy is less than 14 karats, it means that it can only be valuable for a short period.

It’s worth mentioning that the higher the gold content, the more influence it shall make in the market.

Apart from gold content, there are various factors to consider to determine how valuable your jewelry pieces are.

Here are some of them.

Understand European Markings

European gold bracelets for women are marked with numbers that show the percentage of gold. You need to understand them, especially when you’re buying classic gold jewelry.

Understand other Markings on your Gold Jewelry

Karat branding on your gold jewelry should come with a trademark that can help you determine the manufacturer.

The product’s country of origin is usually indicated in some jewelry as well. Make sure the gold jewelry you choose has been certified for gold content before you can buy it.

Why mix Gold with other Metals?

Knowing about gold alloys can come in handy to help you in your search for gold jewelry.

Remember, pure gold is usually soft and this means that wearing it every day is impractical.

Other metals are usually combined with gold to enhance its durability. Such jewelry often comes at a low price.

Mixing gold with different metals enables metallurgists to change its color. For instance, nickel and palladium can be mixed with gold to produce white gold.

Combining gold with copper creates a pink or rose tint. Doing so with silver produces a green cast

When metals are combined with gold, the result is an alloy. This is a bent combination of metals which can be quite expensive.

Solid gold is a term used to define jewelry that contains a minimum of 10 karats of gold in the US

Gold Used as a Coating

There are various ways of applying gold coating in a less expensive metal and this reduces its cost.

Remember, if your jewelry comes with an overly thick layer of gold you shouldn’t wear it daily. Doing so exposes your gold bracelet to wear and tear.

Finally

Plated or gold filled jewelry is ideal for the jewelry you plan to wear occasionally.

However, don’t think about it as an investment. Daily use of these pieces increases wear and tear which in turn exposes bottom part of the metal.

This could stain your skin and eventually trigger an allergic reaction.

If you’re looking for the best gold bracelets for women that will be durable, you should invest in the highest quality gold you can afford.
