SEVANA UNVEILS “BLESSED” VIDEO FROM HER LATEST EP BE SOMEBODY

SEVANA UNVEILS “BLESSED” VIDEO FROM HER LATEST EP “BE SOMEBODY”

“The rising Jamaican star definitely has the range…manages to make the song’s already blissful hook sound even sweeter.”

NYLON

“Sevana has the octaves and pipes that give singers like Beyoncé their stripes.”

ESSENCE

“…poised for greatness…effortless, airy and buttery, it [Sevana’s voice] floats above dreamy melodies…forming a blend that feels timeless and yet profoundly modern.”

POPDUST

Sevana released her latest video for “Blessed.” The Jamaican singer gives reverence to a higher power on this Yoram Savion directed visual shot in the rustic terrain of Soda Springs, CA. Sevana towers over the bright horns as her voice overflows. This soul-baring anthem is off her acclaimed EP Be Somebody (out July 31 via In.Digg.Nation Collective / Six Course / RCA Records) and produced by IzyBeats, the hitmaker behind Koffee’s “Toast” and Lila Iké’s “I Spy.” Watch it HERE.

“The visual follows the story of a woman lost in the wilderness. She’s made a home there, but it all comes to a head when a threat finds its way into the home she’s made. Through divine intervention, she escapes. The threat is fear. The woman is me, “ Sevana explains.  It’s the story of my spiritual growth, how I awoke to a relationship with God as my world came crashing down. I  know what it feels like to never be alone again, I am covered, I am at peace. I am Blessed,” she adds.

The “Blessed” visual follows her “Mango” video which has over 2m+ views and is a favorite among the likes of actress Halle Berry and dancehall queen Spice. The latter song is also featured on her 6-track EP Be Somebody.

About Sevana:

Hailing from Jamaica gives any artist a certain legitimacy, but it also brings certain expectations — ones which Sevana lives up to, but also defies. While reflecting the island’s musical sensibilities in some ways,  Sevana’s vocals are strongly influenced by R&B and soul. Be Somebody comes after Sevana’s self-titled EP (2016), her 2018 breakthrough song “Sometime Love” and 2019’s singles “Nobody Man” and “Haul & Pull” off the Protoje and J Vibe produced Rock & Groove Riddim. In 2019, Sevana landed festival performances at Boomtown (UK), Reggae Geel (Germany) and Rototom Sunsplash (Spain), Sole DXB (Dubai) and joined Protoje on some of his major shows, including BRIC’s Celebrate Brooklyn! NYC concert and Jamaica’s largest annual music festival Reggae Sumfest. Sevana has earned notoriety by The FADER, ESSENCE, NYLON, COMPLEX, ASOS, VICE/Noisey, BBC (1Xtra), LargeUp and graced the cover of RIDDIM Magazine’s SPRING 2019 issue. Her naturally radiant look has made her a favorite of photographers and fashion labels. Most recently, she was included in PUMA Middle East’s 2020 campaign along with labelmate Lila Iké.

DEATHBYROMY × "PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN"

DEATHBYROMY × “PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN”

Capitol Records released DeathbyRomy’s “Come and Play With Me,” a song she wrote and recorded for the Promising Young Woman: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, which will be released on December 4. Listen HERE. In this Refinery29 feature, which accompanied the exclusive premiere of the song, DeathbyRomy talks about collaborating with Emerald Fennell, the film’s writer-director. Fennell also served as Executive Soundtrack Producer, teaming up with music supervisor Sue Jacobs and Capitol Records.

DeathbyRomy recalls, “Upon meeting Emerald we discovered we had a lot of similar music influences. For example, we were both big NIN fans and when I learned her favorite songs of mine were my favorite deep cuts, I knew we were gonna work together beautifully.”

View the lyric video for “Come and Play With Me” HERE. “Come and Play With Me” is one of two cuts from the soundtrack that Variety highlighted in a recent feature about possible contenders for Best Original Song honors at the Oscars. DeathbyRomy wrote the track with Andy Rosen, who collaborated with her on Love u   to Death, her 2019 Capitol Records debut EP. The 20-year-old singer/songwriter pours both pain and euphoria into her catchy yet dark music, pitting electronic melodies and propulsive beats against hypnotic vocals and deeply personal lyrics. Her take on “It’s Raining Men” the iconic No. 1 dance anthem originally released by The Weather Girls in 1982   also appears on the soundtrack. Listen to “It’s Raining Men” HERE.

Focus Features will release the Sundance hit Promising Young Woman on Christmas Day, Friday, December 25, 2020 in theaters domestically. View the trailer HERE. Vice observed, “[Promising Young Woman] expertly uses femme pop songs to underscore its critically acclaimed twisted tale of trauma and revenge.” Refinery 29 said, “[the] soundtrack is full of daring, empowering and straight-up fun tracks.” Vanyaland praised CYN’s “Uh Oh” as “an infectious riff-cruiser of a tune that should jump off the screen as soon as it hits.”  Noted Idolator, “The ‘Promising Young Woman’ soundtrack is a dose of girl-power. Cyn already landed a breakthrough radio hit with  ‘Drinks.’ Don’t be too surprised if she does it all over again with ‘Uh Oh.'”

Those who pre-order the 16-track collection in digital format will instantly receive “Come and Play With Me” and  “It’s Raining Men” plus CYN’s “Uh Oh” and “Drinks” and Donna Missal’s interpretation of Cigarettes After Sex’s 2012 breakthrough single, “Nothing’s Gonna Hurt You Baby.”

The soundtrack also features previously unreleased tracks from MUNA and BLESSUS plus Carmen DeLeon’s cover of the Gerry Goffin-Carole King penned “He Hit Me (And It Felt Like A Kiss”). Charli XCX’s “Boys,” Paris Hilton’s “Stars Are Blind,” Sky Ferreira’s “Downhill Lullaby” and Juice Newton’s “Angel of the Morning” are among the previously released tracks that Fennell employs to subvert the audience’s expectations over the course of the film. Other featured artists include Maya B and Lily & Madeleine.

Lila Iké New Video

Lila Iké drops the music video for “Forget Me” from her debut release The ExPerience

“Filled with fearless, confessional-style lyrics, the Phillip “Winta” James-produced track truly solidifies Ike as one of Jamaica’s rising stars through its use of classic dub motifs blended with elements of contemporary jazz, soul, R&B, reggaeton and rap. And though it’s easy to be instantly hypnotized, make no mistake that the song contains a much deeper and all-too-relatable meaning.” – PAPER

“The ExPerience is a valiant induction of Iké not only as a force to be reckoned with as a rising reggae artist in Jamaica, but globally…The ExPerience is a reminder that Jamaican artists aren’t singing about a season. They’re singing about their entire lives.” – VICE

Lila Iké sheds layers of emotion revealing her most vulnerable side on “Forget Me,” the standout track and music video from her debut EP The ExPerience. Director Oshane ‘Shane Creative’ Junior from Wikid Media JA & co-director Nickii Kane filmed a breakup to makeup sequence in Kingston, Jamaica.

While The ExPerience is a perfect display of Lila Iké’s soul-stirring vocal range, her fearless songwriting also explores the blissful and heartbreaking nuances of relationships. “If everyday we ah-go fight, I think it’s best that you forget me,” Lila says in the chorus. Producer Phillip “Winta” James constructed a sparse instrumental on “Forget Me” using a classic bounce of high hat, kick drum, and snare that gives space for Lila’s passionate confession. At the climactic bridge of the song, Winta James adds trumpets evoking the flavor of Jamaican dub, followed by Lila’s rapid nonchalant flow in her island country’s traditional patois.

About Lila Iké:

Since ascending in 2019 with a string of songs that fused contemporary reggae with elements of soul, hip-hop, and dancehall, Lila Iké has continued her atmospheric rise in 2020. She has earned critical acclaim from The New York Times, NPR, The Daily Beast, The FADER, and NYLON as an artist to watch, and The ExPerience proves these praises to be true.

The spotlight shines brighter on Lila Iké as she pivots from Jamaica’s independent singing sensation to global superstardom guided by her natural talents, co-signed by In.Digg.Nation Collective, Six Course and RCA Records. Lila Iké’s endearing tone can be felt in every word she sings, displaying equal amounts of vulnerability and dominance in her signature vibrato. While her early hits are foundational elements of her debut, “Forget Me” is the latest thread from The ExPerience that continues to tread through the thick, potent smoke of introspection and intimacy.

S P I L L A G E  V I L L A G E RELEASE NEW TRACK AND VIDEO “END OF DAZE” WATCH NOW!

Supergroup Spillage Village has today released brand new track and video “End of Daze” — a sombre yet poignant song that ends on a hopeful tone — which fans have been long awaiting for. The crew composed of J.I.D, EarthGang, 6lack, Mereba, Jurdan Bryant, Hollywood JB and Benji. recorded the song during (and largely as a solace for) the pandemic, and yet seems to still ring true during a civil rights uprising.

The track features the vocals from J.I.D, EarthGang, Mereba, Jordan Bryant and Hollywood JB and was co-produced by Christo (Revenge of the Dreamers III, J.I.D), Elite, Mike Dean (Beyonce, Nas, Kanye West, Travis Scott), Jay Card, Nice Rec and Olu (of EarthGang). They say it takes a village to raise a child and Spillage Village aims to borrow from this adage to inspire stories aimed at rebuilding and revolutionizing our communities for the future.

About Spillage Village:

Born out of block parties, college dorm rooms and late night house sessions, Spillage Village was founded by Atlanta duo EarthGang and rapper J.I.D and were then joined by producer Hollywood JB and artist Jurdan Bryant.

The quintet released their first collaborative project, Bears Like This (2014) to a warm reception gathering a groundswell of support from peers. Soon after, singer Mereba and rapper 6lack joined the group and released their second critically acclaimed effort, Bears Like This Too (2015) with press dubbing it “a definitive statement from one of Atlanta’s most musically vibrant posses”(VICE/Noisey).

Keeping its momentum, the following year Spillage Village made waves again with Bears Like This Too Much (2016). The EP would be a turning point for many of the artists in the group whose solo careers began to take off, 6lack’s debuted his Free 6lack project (Interscope, 2016) and EarthGang and J.I.D signed to Dreamville Records (Interscope).

Olu from EarthGang would say that the three “Bear” EPs acted like “checkpoints and markers in time” chronicling the rise of the musical mavericks. Almost four years later, sold out international tours, Grammy nominations and individual projects, Spillage Village is back to deliver soul serving music.

2019 Oscars: Austrian Designer Julia Koerner brings 3D-Printing to the Oscars

For the first time, 3D-Printing hits the Academy Awards. The winner of the Academy Award for Costume Design Ruth E Carter for the Black Panther brought on Julia Koerner to develop the remarkable 3D-Printed costumes of Queen Ramonda character. These included the Queen’s Crown and Shoulder Mantle. The Black Panther won Academy Awards.

Julia Koerner is an award-winning Austrian Designer and Professor at UCLA’s School of Architecture. She specializes in 3D design for 3D-Printing. Her past works include 3D-printed haute-couture for Iris Van Herpen, and Chanel’s Maison Lesage; both of which were

recently exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (MET) show entitled Manus x Machina.

The 3D designs are developed and simulated in 3D-space utilizing algorithms and scripts to generate the patterns and three- dimensional effects that are customized to the wearer. The technology allows Koerner to research and develop highly complex and intricate designs, which cannot be fabricated in any other way. The Material used is a strong and exible polymer that is highly durable, the printing process itself takes several days within the laser sintering machine.

The technique used for 3D-Printing Queen Ramonda’s costumes is known as Selective Laser Sintering (SLS), where a bed of powder is fused by a laser beam microscopically, layer by layer to fabricate the intricate 3D designs developed in the computer by Koerner. The costumes were manufactured by Materialise in Belgium, who Koerner has been working with for over a decade.

Shortly after receiving the Academy Award, Ruth E Carter joined the Oscars most sought-after Vanity Fair party wearing a 3D-Printed Statement Piece designed by Julia Koerner. Koerner says: “Over the past two months, I developed a customizedstatement piece for Ruth, we found inspiration in African imagery from the photographer Seydou Kaïta, and digitally crafted afro-futuristic patterns to an asymmetrical ensemble that references the 1950’s fashion designs of Balenciaga”. To sublime the piece, Julia Koerner worked with Swarovski to integrate their cutting edge line of crystals onto the garment in a novel technique, which is a rst of its kind. The commission of the piece is combined with Ruth Carter’s dress developed by the renowned B Michael America.

About Julia Koerner

Julia Koerner is an award-winning Austrian designer working at the convergence of architecture, product and fashion design. She is internationally recognized for design innovation in 3D-printing. Julia’s work stands out at the top of these disciplines. Her designs have been featured in the National Geographic Magazine, VICE, WIRED and the New York Times among other publications. Museum and Institutions which have exhibited her work include the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York (MET), Palais des Beau Arts in Brussels, Museum of Applied Arts MAK Vienna, Ars Electronica, the Art Institute of Chicago and the High Museum of Art in Atlanta among others. The constantly intriguing aspect of Julia’s work is its embodiment of a beautiful organic aesthetic.

Julia is founder of JK Design GmbH, specialising in design for 3D-printing. In 2015 Julia launched an entirely 3D-Printed ready-to-wear collection entitled ‘Sporophyte.’ Her collaborations involved 3D Printed fashion pieces developed with Haute Couture Houses for Paris Fashion week and 3D printed costumes for Hollywood entertainment productions such as Marvel’s Black Panther in collaboration with Ruth Carter. Most recently she collaborated with Swarovski on a showpiece which displays Swarovski’s continued strive for innovation and the early developments of 3D-printing technology with glass.
