PUMA ANNOUNCES MULTI-YEAR PARTNERSHIP WITH THE BLACK FIVES FOUNDATION IN SUPPORT OF BLACK HISTORY EDUCATION REFORM

Global sports company PUMA is celebrating Black History Month by highlighting the work of Black leaders, partners and community organizations that continue to inspire and shape the future for generations to come.

Throughout the month, PUMA will stand alongside athletes, ambassadors and partners by amplifying their voices and actions across various platforms in support of universal equality, justice and acceptance for all.

To kick off the month, PUMA announced a multi-year partnership with the Black Fives Foundation, a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit, whose mission since 2002 is to research, preserve, showcase, teach and honor the pre-NBA history of African Americans in basketball. The partnership will raise awareness about this vital history and its pioneering players, teams and contributors through initiatives that make a difference, as well as feature special apparel and footwear collections with popular PUMA styles including vintage graphics and logos maintained by the Foundation’s trademarked slogan, “Make History Now.”

“I’m proud and honored to partner with PUMA toward making a meaningful, long-lasting difference in expanding Black history education to include the pioneering African American teams, players, and contributors who helped pave the way for today’s game,” said  Founder and Executive Director of the Black Fives Foundation Claude Johnson.

PUMA, together with the Black Fives Foundation, will help support the Foundation’s preservation and education efforts through creative activations that include an engaging, multi-use online museum to display its archive of historical artifacts and content from the Black Fives Era. The Black Fives Foundation’s Virtual Vault, presented by PUMA, will be an online portal for visitors to see, learn, and be inspired by the pre-NBA history of African Americans in basketball through nearly 1,000 artifacts in the Foundation’s historical archive. Items include vintage equipment, ticket stubs, game gear, images, scorecards and more. The Virtual Vault is set to launch later this year.

Also this month, PUMA will be giving back to the Harlem community with partner AfroBrutality, hosting conversations with current and former athletes around activism in sport through their #REFORM platform and more.

The first PUMA x Black Fives collection will include popular PUMA styles including vintage graphics and logos maintained by the Foundation’s trademarked slogan “Make History Now.” Five unique silhouettes will be featured in the collection including a hoodie, short sleeve and long sleeve tee, pants and shorts all in a black and cream color palette.

Retailing for $45 – $90 the PUMA x Black Fives Foundation clothing collection will be available on PUMA.com and at the PUMA NYC Flagship Store on Friday, February 12th. PUMA and Black Fives will also be releasing a forthcoming footwear collection this spring.

The partnership, which supports Black History education reform and the Foundation’s preservation and education efforts through creative activations, including an engaging, multi-use online museum to display its archives of historical artifacts and content from the Black Fives Era, will also include the release of footwear later this year.

PUMA Clyde All-Pro

PUMA announced the newest addition to the Clyde Franchise Monday with its brand new Clyde All-Pro, a basketball silhouette taking style and performance to the next level.

The Clyde Franchise is inspired by shoes worn by Walt “Clyde” Frazier on the basketball court in the 1970s but with a twist: they have all of the technology and performance of today.

The shoe is perfect for on-court training and has ProFoam+ for stability and cushioning. It also uses Matryx material, which is lightweight and durable, for support.

Three styles will be available throughout November.

First is the Clyde All-Pro, which comes in two colorways, PUMA White-Blue Atoll and PUMA White-PUMA Black. It has a Pebax drop in the heel with a ProFoam+ midsole and a Matryx engineered knit providing enhanced stability, breathability and support. It will retail for $130 and will be available on PUMA’s website, PUMA’s NYC Store and select retailers Nov. 11.

Next, the Clyde All-Pro Elf, a colorway that lets you wear a classic Christmas movie on your feet. Between the iconic colors of the film and the maple syrup, spaghetti and elf hat on the heels, the movie is brought to the life and the pavement. The collaboration will cross over to other PUMA products, including footwear and apparel. The Clyde All-Pro Elf will start at $130 and will be available at Dick’s Sporting Goods, PUMA’s website and at the PUMA NYC store beginning Nov. 19.

Finally, the Clyde All-Pro Kuzma Mid is designed by Kyle Kuzma and Rhuigi Villaseñor, the founder of Rhude. It combines vintage-inspired colors and performance tooling. The shoe can be used on the streets or the courts and have Kuzma’s logo in the sock liner. It will retail for $150 and will be available Nov. 27 on PUMA’s website, the PUMA NYC Store, at select retailers and during Foot Locker’s “12 Days of Greatness.”

PUMA × J. Cole

PUMA has announced the launch of J. Cole’s first signature basketball sneaker: The RS-Dreamer.

J. Cole was intimately involved in the new franchise, from initial inspiration to the final design. This first signature basketball sneaker is intended to be worn both on and off the court – equipped with the latest technology while having a fashion-forward and disruptive design. The RS-Dreamer will be worn on the court by PUMA Hoops athletes and has already been spotted on several NBA and WNBA athletes as they ramp up for their respective returns to play this summer.

Earlier this year, PUMA and Cole announced their official partnership with a TV spot that aired during All Star Weekend. The theme of that spot, which inspired Cole’s new signature product line, is about never abandoning one’s dream, despite the obstacles faced or time passed.

On the sneaker’s “DREAMER” logo, Cole stated “When said out loud, all the best dreams sound crazy. Dreamer was created with the belief that, still, we must follow ours, no matter how unachievable they may seem to others.”

The RS-Dreamer combines PUMA’s running system “RS foam” and innovative RS technology for superior on-court mobility.

“Over the years, basketball shoes have progressed greatly in their level of technology and comfort but have strayed too far away from designs stylish enough for cultural relevancy,” Cole explains, “The Dreamer hopes to change that reality. The highest-level of on-court performance meets the highest level of aesthetic design for daily wear. Once again, you can hoop in the same shoes you wore outside.”

Retailing for $125, the RS-Dreamer will be available exclusively in store and online at the Foot Locker Inc. Family of Brands (including Foot Locker, Kids Foot Locker, Champs, Footaction and Eastbay), PUMA.com, and PUMA stores starting this Friday, July 31. A limited apparel collection to compliment the RS-Dreamer will also be available for purchase. Additional iterations of the RS-Dreamer are slated to release throughout 2020.

Reebok Alter the Icons Collection × JayIDK

Reebok has unveiled its second iteration of the game-changing “Alter the Icons” collection – this time in partnership with emerging rapper and record producer JayIDK.

The collection, which puts a new and refreshing spin on classic Reebok silhouettes like the Classic Leather and Workout Plus, tears up the traditional design rulebook and will launch August 15. In addition to launching the collection, Reebok has also debuted a video with JayIDK – highlighting his journey and alternative path to success.

They say you don’t mess with a Classic – but Reebok’s done it anyway. Reebok Classic’s newest campaign with Foot Locker Inc., dubbed Alter the Icons, discards decades of design practice to present radically chopped-and-skewed, heritage-hacked spins on the brand’s most iconic sneakers in an open statement against convention.

Featuring classic footwear with reinterpretations of the brand’s iconic Starcrest and vector logos, the campaign spotlights the brand’s unique approach to heritage – that tradition isn’t canon, but a platform for contemporary thinking. Alter the Icons looks to guide the rising generation of future designers, artists and other young visionaries in helping them homage history without being swallowed by it. It is a challenge for creatively and culturally-minded consumers across the globe: dare to alter your path.

To launch the campaign, Reebok is dropping the product with a street-level pop-up saluting New York’s famed street merchant culture. A brand-approved street merchant will set up shop starting at 10 a.m. outside Foot Locker’s New York Flagship on 34th Street in Herald Square featuring street-legal spins on classic Reebok merch. Open to the public for one day only, the pop-up will guide consumers into the Foot Locker storefront where they will discover the official campaign product.

“With this launch pop-up activation, we wanted to pay homage to something that has not only been a part of New York City’s street culture for decades, but speaks to the spirit behind what Alter the Icons is all about – challenging convention and breaking the rules,” says Neal Taylor, General Manager of Reebok Classic.

The campaign will continue by rolling out a series of video profiles featuring a selection of game changing contemporary music artists – including Saweetie, Lil Baby, Bodega Bamz, JAYIDK and MadeinTYO – sharing their unconventional paths to success that showcase a similar departure from creative tradition. A trailer for the series featuring these visionary artists can be viewed here.

“Alter the Icons is about celebrating those who have similarly broken custom within their mediums – fashion, music, design, art – by using their own ‘spin’ to alter traditional paths to success,” Neal Taylor adds, “We see these five artists as role models for bold cultural departure, inspiring a likeminded generation of rising creatives to push boundaries and march to the beat of their own drum.”

The first drop of the Alter the Icons collection, featuring the Classic Leather and Workout Plus silhouettes, is available for purchase beginning today on Reebok.com, and in-store and online at Foot Locker, Lady Foot Locker, Kids Foot Locker, SIX:02, Champs Sports and Footaction for $85 while supplies last.
