Maestro Moon Phase Watch

The Maestro Moon Phase gives a new meaning to space & time. A moon phase aperture at six o’clock adds an element of otherworldly romance to this classic watch. Moon phase displays were common on clocks & pocket watches dating back to the renaissance period. Combining art & science, this feature demonstrates watchmaking technical mastery. Moon phase watches show the various phases of the moon, which has always provided time with an orientation. The moon was the first method of telling the passing of months.

A “moon phase” is the lighted area of the moon that is visible as it travels around the earth. Its journey is exactly 29 days, 12 hours, 44 minutes & 2.9 seconds.

To set your maestro moon phase watch, you must determine the date of the last full moon in the lunar cycle. Once you have the number of days, pull out the crown and twist counterclockwise. Turn once for each day elapsed.

While this measurement of time may be antiquated; it still represents historical craftsmanship & gives this maestro model a whimsical vintage appeal. The combined open balance wheel on this maestro watch reveals the “heart of the movement”. It is just a glimpse into the precision, quality, and technical assembly inside the refined design of a 39.5mm case.

Hopping Ghosts Figurine

Osaka Popstar presents “Hopping Ghosts” the new Ltd Ed. 8″ vinyl figure that comes complete with its own punk-rock theme song!

Chinese vampire mythology takes a spin through the mind of Osaka Popstar creator/frontman John Cafiero-who designed the figure and penned the accompanying single.

Each figure is 8-inches tall, with a removable scroll spell accessory, and comes packaged in a full-color art box with a free download card for the new single “Hopping Ghosts” by Osaka Popstar. The single features John Cafiero (vocals) backed by a lineup featuring Dennis Diken (The Smithereens) Drums, Sal Maida (Cracker, Milk & Cookies, Roxy Music) Bass, and Dean Rispler (The Dictators NYC, Voluptuous Horror of Karen Black) Guitar. Download also includes an alternate “animated instrumental” version (as heard in the animated promo for the new figure line).

What exactly is a Hopping Ghost? Known as Jiangshi in Chinese folklore and kyonshī in Japan, hopping ghosts or hopping vampires are basically a breed of zombie; reanimated corpses dressed in traditional garments from the Qing Dynasty. Rigor mortis has set in so they can only move around by hopping with their arms outstretched! They can’t see using traditional vision. Instead, they sense living creatures by their breath and seek to absorb the life force of the living. They can be stopped with a scroll to the forehead containing a spell written in a mix of ink and blood and led by Taoist priests using bells.

moon d’elle Collection 2

Italian luxury footwear brand moon d’elle is proud to announce the launch of its Capri-inspired Collection 2, arriving April 11, 2022.

Collection 2 marks the brand’s first foray into sandals, just in time for warmer weather. Founders and sisters Tabitha and Chandra Perkins were inspired by a trip to Capri, which they explored mostly by foot and boat, when designing their latest collection.

The vibrant hues and natural elements of the island found themselves embedded in this collection. From the deep blue hues of the sea to the light blue waters of the grottos, the blush hues of sunsets along sandy beaches, and even the shapes of the sunlight’s rays, the sisters drew inspiration from the natural beauty of the island for the colors, textures, and silhouettes of their latest pieces.

The second collection continues to showcase one of moon d’elle‘s signature traits of mixing different materials and textures to fuse classic with modern elements, such as nappa leather and snakeskin, with a partial lamination in metallic on precious suede with linen fabric. Light-colored earth tones and pastels dominate the newest designs, with fresh materials like transparent mesh, crystal appliques, and glitter rainbow leather.

His unapologetic demeanor made him a legend in his own time and the influence he had on a generation of fashion and popular culture will never be forgotten. As a tribute to an era in which “AI” will forever remain a champion, Packer presents a second special edition Reebok Answer IV, aesthetically engineered to feel synonymous with fondly remembered trends of that time. Equipped with subtle construction alterations, the Packer Answer IV “White/Silver” offers a buttery white leather upper with silver mesh, reconstructed upper panels and subtly placed red accents.

Outputs a clear and full sound while playing music. Great command interface – controls with simple taps. Lasts approx 3 hours. Reebok x KANGHYUK

Reebok and KANGHYUK announce the latest drop in their ongoing collaboration. The two brands have teamed up to debut their combined take on a new silhouette from Reebok – the Premier Road Modern Mid.

Following the popular Premier Road Modern silhouette that debuted in 2020 as part of the Reebok and KANGHYUK partnership, the two teams created a masterfully maximalist mid-cut version of the shoe dubbed the Premier Road Modern Mid. Boasting a new mid-cut collar, the shoe is an elevated version of the Premier Road Modern “Car Part” released by the two brands in 2020.

The new style offers bold details, sculpted design lines and a crisp tonal color scheme. The uppers of each shoe are split between layers and feature a textured build that is an abstract take on Reebok’s signature Vector logo.

This experimentation with tone and texture reaches from the toebox to the heel, while the high-cut collar offers bulbous padded details around the ankle and incorporates a KANGHYUK logo stamped on the heel. Below this sits a rubberized bumper and red foam midsoles which feature a soft EVA construction for comfort.

The Reebok x KANGHYUK Premier Road Modern Mid will be available in two striking colorways – Black (GW6192) and Blue (GW6132) – each for $240.

The Black Premier Road Modern Mid will be available exclusively at Dover Street Market beginning June 23rd before becoming available on Reebok.com and KANGHYUK.shop on June 25th. The Blue Premier Road Modern Mid will be globally available beginning July 1 from select retailers as well as Reebok.com and KANGHYUK.shop.

Newport Car Museum

Established as a cherished attraction for car lovers, the Newport Car Museum in Portsmouth, R.I. has become a business success story like no other in the car world. Despite bringing in tourists from other popular landmarks in Newport like the Gilded Age Mansions and the seaside attractions of Newport, the Museum has set itself aside as an established and longstanding attraction in Rhode Island.

Opened just four and a half years ago, the number of visitors that the Museum has drawn in in just 2021 alone is exponential. Nearly 50,000 people have been welcomed into the museum this past year, and the numbers are expected to only continue to rise in the coming new year. Throughout the short period that the Museum has been opened, it has won numerous awards and has been compared to other top celebrated car museums like Florida’s Rev Institute and California’s Peterson Automotive Museum. In 2021, the Newport Car Museum was named amongst the Top 10% of Attractions Worldwide and was presented with the Tripadvisor® Travelers’ Choice award.

Gunther Buerman and his wife Maggie Buerman started the museum in June of 2017. The Buerman’s poured their heart and soul into accomplishing the success story of the Museum thus far. Gunther Buerman states, “Our hope always has been to put smiles on our visitors’ faces, and so far, we have been successful.”

The Buerman’s admit that they did not know how the public would react to the Museum, and just how they would truly convey their collection of unique and exotic cars as a true museum. The first step in opening up the Museum started with obtaining a space fit to house the cars that they had, but a space that would also allow them to grow the collection. The facility that they bestowed upon was a past missile manufacturing facility on the campus of Raytheon Technologies. The building, coming in at a whopping 114,000 square feet, came with 17 acres of grounds. The building itself had to be reconfigured and constructed to support the Buerman’s then collection of 65 cars. The 17 acres was transformed into grounds that would allow for the Museum to hold varying events like car clubs and shows. That ground eventually also was turned into a free parking lot for visitors with the ability to hold up to 300 cars.

Now, the Museum’s exhibit encompasses over 80,000 square feet and consists of 85 cars in six various Galleries – Ford/Shelby, Corvettes, World Cars, Fin Cars, American Muscle and Mopars – with a Pop-Up Porsche Exhibit as well. Distinct enrichments that encompass the Museum include specially made artwork, historical videos and a collection of Mid-Century Modern furniture, which works as seating. The Museum even has a gift shop that contains various items made just for car lovers.

“The Museum is now sought out directly by those traveling to New England looking for experiences that mean something to them,” said Buerman on the significance of the Museum and its visitors. “Our audience is in large part car aficionados and art lovers. Some have travelled to see as many different car museums as they can in this country, and they tell us how amazed they are at what they find here. They appreciate the art gallery ambience, the beauty of the cars and the rich automotive history represented by each decade of design, starting with the early 1950s and finishing with new models from the 21st Century.”

The Newport Car Museum is open on a daily basis from 10-5. Tickets can be bought at the door of the Museum, or online at www.newportcarmuseum.org.

Regular admission: $18/adults; $15/Seniors, Military, Students; $8/Ages 5-15 (with an adult); Free/Ages 4 and under (with an adult)

Town & Country 8th Philanthropy Summit – Marlo Thomas × Phil Donahue

The 8th annual Town & Country Philanthropy Summit continued today with a wonderful conversation between Marlo Thomas and Phil Donahue, moderated by Editor in Chief Stellene Volandes. This is the first time that Phil has interviewed Marlo since they first met on the Donahue show decades ago.

Please see below for highlights from the panel as well as a link to view the interview in its entirety:

Marlo on visiting St. Jude following her father’s death:

“After my father died, it was just a terrible shock to us. It was stunning because he hadn’t been sick, so it was very sudden. He was adored by us. We all loved him, and he was our funny, loving perfect daddy so it was very, very hard. We all decided that you know, we’d go to St. Jude and let them know that we were here if they needed us and so I went to St. Jude, a couple of months later. I drove up and there was a sixteen feet statue of St. Jude right at the entrance, and I started to cry because I’ve been there so many times with my dad. I pulled myself together because I didn’t want to cry in front of the parents, they have enough heartache of their own. I went inside and, in the lobby, there was this party going on. All of these little kids running around with party hats, balloons, confetti, ice cream, and cake. I said to the nurse, ‘Well whose birthday, is it?’ She said, ‘Oh it’s not a birthday party, it’s an off-chemo party.’ Well, I’ll tell you, I just gasped, to see these children celebrating one of their turns for the better. All of these moms and dads and grandparents standing around with tears in their eyes because they felt that if this child made it, maybe their beloved child would too. It was really a stunning moment for me. And then, just as I was standing there, this mom came over with a little girl about four years old, all dressed in pink. She had little pink ribbons jauntily tied around her little bald head and the mother said to her, ‘do you know who’s this lady’s daddy is?’ and the little girl shyly answered, ‘yes’ the mother said ‘who?’ She [little girl] proudly said, ‘St. Jude.’ I just fell in love with her. I fell in love with all of those kids in the off-chemo party. I fell in love with this place. And I realized for the first time, just what all of this hope and love and promise and the future of a second chance for children meant to my father. It really helped me to see myself as a part of it.”

Marlo on what she learned from her father:

“Well, what I learned from dad, really is that he had a lot of sayings, and one of them was there’s two kinds of people in the world: those who stop on an accident to see if they can help or those who just drive by. He was literally the kind that would stop and help. I remember one time, we were driving by down Sunset Blvd. we saw these boys beating up on another little boy. And my father stopped the car and jumped out. He pulled the boys apart and gave them a big talking to. I was sitting in the car, terrified, I was eight years old. He got back in the car. He brought the little boy that’ve been bullied with him. We were going to drop him off at home and as my dad started the car, he said, ‘I hate a bully.’ And I think to him, cancer in children was a bully. A bully that he wanted to defeat. The thing about my dad too is that he really was a citizen of the world, that we all are citizens of the world…He saw himself as part of the neighborhood as a part of a community wherever he was, he was a part of that community. I think that was a great lesson for my sister, my brother, and I.”

Phil Donahue on his first visit to St. Jude and how that impacted him:

“My first visit to St. Jude, I picked up a little bald-headed kid. I said, ‘What do you want to be when you grow up, big guy?’ This still makes me cry. The kid said, ‘I just don’t want to be sick anymore.’ Well, my god, I grabbed this kid. You know, for a very brief moment, I kind of felt how parents feel when they take a child to St. Jude. How scary it must be and how I didn’t want that child to see my eyes get moist. So, it’s a real learning experience at St. Jude. It changed me forever. I do wish everybody could visit the hospital. It’s a life-changing experience and when you see the parents arrive with a child. You see the real fear on their faces, terror sometimes. Then you see them leaving and they’re better. It’s like a godsent – the change they feel, and that their children feel.”

Marlo on being awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom and her version of the American Dream:

“One of the things that happened in my life that was really big a great deal, because of my work with St. Jude, is that I received the Medal of Freedom from President Obama. My husband and I went, and my brother came, and the head of St. Jude came. The interesting thing about it, is when you are growing up, especially as an actress, you dream of getting an Emmy or an Oscar or a Tony, but I don’t think anybody grows up dreaming about the Medal of Freedom. It just comes as a shock when you’re told you will be receiving this at the White House. And I remember I was stunned. Remember we discussed that I wasn’t going to cry? So, I’m not going to cry, but I did because at the moment President Obama was clasping the medal around my neck, I thought of my grandparents. My grandparents were immigrants who came to this country from Lebanon to find a better way of life, to raise their family and their children. And I saw them in my mind’s eye, I could see my grandparents with all their belongings and cloth bags. And here, their granddaughter just two generations later were in the White House receiving the Medal of Freedom from the President of the United States. I mean, that is the American Dream. I’m so proud of the fact that my grandparents made a life in this country.”

Marlo on how celebrity involvement has helped the foundation:

“That’s a very interesting thing because just as in our generation, we brought in Jennifer Aniston and Robin Williams and all of those wonderful people. My dad did that, that’s how he built the hospital. He used to say this hospital was built with laughter George Burns and the Bob Hope and all of the funny guys—Jerry Lewis and Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, all of the men and women that were on the night club circuit with my dad helped build St. Jude. In fact, Frank Sinatra did so many benefits that we actually have a whole wing that’s called the Frank Sinatra wing. Their generosity really built the hospital.”

Watch the full summit here.

The T&C Summit continues tomorrow with Stacy-Marie Ishmael speaking to Taraji P. Henson and Jamie Raskin, and Stellene Volandes in conversation with Andreas Dracopoulos. If you are interested in attending register directly here.

CONISON: OUR CHAT WITH HIGH-END STREETWEAR LABEL FOUNDER, CONNOR MORTON

By Blake Holmes

A celebration of the LA dream, Conison is an up-and-coming, high-end streetwear brand from Melbourne, Australia.
Recently, we caught up with Founder and Creative Director, Connor Morton, to chat vision, inspiration and what’s in store for the year ahead.

TELL US ABOUT CONISON..

Conison is a high-end streetwear and design brand.

At the heart of Conison is a message of inspiration. I want to encourage people to express themselves, providing an avenue for them to explore their own sense of style and creative potential through fashion and design.

WHAT’S YOUR WHY?

I’ve always endeavoured to express my creativity through outlets available to me, from DJing and music, to clothing customisation and art. I think everyone deserves this opportunity and my dream is that Conison will provide that for others; an inspiration source that spreads positivity and reinforces the idea that everyone has the power to shape their reality.

WHAT’S IN STORE FOR YOUR UPCOMING COLLECTION?

Collection 2 Rise & Fall is a two-part capsule. This collection celebrates an ascension to your highest self and the fall of negative energy. These ideas are expressed in my messaging and I’ve catered to both the NZ/Aus and US/Euro markets, with different materials and designs.

WHO/WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

There are countless brands and creators that fuel my fire. Designers like Reese Cooper and Heron Preston, brands like Riot Hill and photographers like Kyle Caulfield to name just a few.

HOW DO YOU STAY MOTIVATED?

I believe motivation is something you have to seek constantly. This can be challenging at times and the interruptions of this year have been a prime example.

Regularly contacting my mentors, listening to podcasts, and painting have kept me in the zone this year. There’s always motivation to be found if you look hard enough.

WHAT DOES A TYPICAL DAY LOOK LIKE FOR YOU?

Every day is different but I start and end them in the same way. I usually wake up with a warm/cold soak to get focused, then have breakfast while watching motivational content on YouTube. From then I work ‘til i’ve felt i’ve done enough, which means late nights a lot of the time. I also work other jobs and fit in time at the gym or some form of exercise each day. I end the day with business content on YouTube to get inspired for the day ahead.

WHAT’S THE BIGGEST FINANCIAL STRAIN WHEN RUNNING YOUR OWN BRAND?

Being a one-man band with no backing at 22 has been a struggle. There are definitely financial challenges and they’ve taken a lot of practice, help from mentors and learning to overcome. In saying that, I’m feeling confident in the belief that now is the time to be bold, take risks and bet on myself. When you believe in your brand and the message you’re trying to share, anything is possible.

WHAT’S THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU’VE EVER RECEIVED?

My mentor sent me a message a few weeks back. I think it’s spot on and something I struggle with at times. “Your art is not about how many people like your work, your art is about if your heart likes your work, if your soul likes your work, it’s how honest you are with yourself”. I try to follow this ethos daily and remind myself of this at times I’m questioning my vision and creative direction. I’ve implemented this into my work daily and it’s become more authentic as a result.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR CONISON?

The sky’s the limit. I want to push creative boundaries, not just with Conison but in the global fashion and lifestyle brand space. This means everything from painting collections and exclusive pieces to furniture.
Most importantly, I want to continue telling the Conison story in an authentic way. Giving people a story to truly connect with is what drives me and the best way to keep people engaged and on-board for the journey.

I’m learning and growing every day and Conison will continue to evolve with me. I can’t wait to share it with everyone.

LEAVE US WITH A FAVOURITE QUOTE..

I’ve got a few. ‘Ignore the boos, they usually come from the cheap seats’. This one has been really important to me. As a young person, you often face a lot of negativity and doubt from others about your ability to step outside the norm and succeed. I’ve learnt not to take this to heart and stay true to myself, which is something I think we should all strive to do.

Another favourite is, ‘an arrow can only be shot forward by pulling it backward’. This one’s all about resilience to me, and the idea that on the other side of struggle and hardship is success, fortune and prosperity. I try to remember this with every minor setback and keep a positive mindset no matter the circumstances. When you do, nothing can discourage you from achieving your dreams. This is what Conison is all about.

Rise & Fall Part 1 drops 7th December, 7:00pm EST

Rita Azar illustrates an article about the American dream for 360 MAGAZINE

What is the American Dream in 2020?

We spend our whole lives working and earning money to support ourselves and our families. The term “American Dream” was coined in 1931 by James Truslow Adams, and it represented an idea of a land where there were loads of opportunities for people in accordance with their achievements or abilities.

According to him, this was not a mere idea of high wages and motor cars, but rather it was an idea of a social order in which every man and every woman would be able to attain the full stature they are capable of. This would be provided to them regardless of class, color, creed and socio-economic status.

With the advancement in technology, everything has changed, for the better or worse. The million-dollar question is: What is the U.S. Dream in 2020? Has it changed somehow, or is it still the same after all this time?

Let’s take a look!

The New U.S. Dream

The idea of the U.S. dream is a theme around the globe and across the globe. Every U.S. citizen has her or his own idea and version of it. The U.S. Dream of today hasn’t strayed very far from the vision that was set forth by the founding fathers.

Our founding fathers wanted to inculcate basic societal values in us, such as the creation of a meaningful life, as essential parts of society and community. In the new version of the idea, spending time with friends and family is becoming dominant.

With the advancement in technology, more opportunities have been created for the people. It is no longer about feeding the family every day. It is about creating a sense of peace and stability in the whole community.

Everyone needs to contribute to ensure that we all live in the best way possible. With all the hard work that American citizens put in, the result is going to be a nation that is happy, content and at peace.

American Dream and U.S. Presidents

After the Great Recession in 2008, the income inequality among different classes became even more pronounced. It seemed as if this idea was coming to an end for many people. However, in reality, only the materialistic part of the idea was nearing an end.

Around the turn of the century, a lot of U.S. presidents were in favor of homeownership as an important part of the U.S. dream. The presidential campaign plan of Hillary Clinton included homeownership, retirements and health insurance.

Furthermore, Obama passed the Affordable Care Act, commonly known as “ObamaCare,” which provided the right to healthcare for all U.S. citizens.

Important parts of the U.S. Dream

After decades of hard work, our founding fathers created a safe space for everyone, where the rights of everyone were respected, and the opportunities were abundant.

There are various factors that make this idea possible, such as:

·         Efficient Governance

·         Helpful and Friendly Neighbors

·         The abundance of Natural Resources

However, with the threat of climate change looming over our heads, the natural resources have started becoming scarce. Several papers about American Dream suggest that rising sea levels, food inflation as well as the health crises are already straining the funds of the U.S. government.

The founding fathers didn’t envision that even the right to have clean water, air and natural resources would become scarce. Therefore, there is a need for a new version of this idea that would help the citizens, even this time of economic crisis.

Every American citizen dreams of retiring in peace after working hard for years. The government, as well as the private organizations, are working hard to ensure that the idea of a Utopian lifestyle remains afloat.

How can we live the U.S. Dream today?

The entire U.S. population is united by a common political system, language, and shared values. The diversity in cultures and traditions adds to the overall strength of America. This gives various companies an opportunity to innovate so that every single person can benefit from their products.

Under this idea, everyone has an equal right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Happiness or lifestyle isn’t defined under the Declaration of Independence. Rather, U.S citizens are free to pursue their own vision of this idea. The new U.S. Dream promotes a free-market economy in which everything from the service to the price is controlled by the market and not the government. This gives everyone an equal opportunity for the creation of wealth and happiness.

With the advancement in economic growth, the idea of happiness and peace for the citizens of the United States has also changed. Every organization and enterprise is trying to give the best of their services to ensure that we become a satisfied population.

Education for all is also an important part of the American idea of happiness. If we send our descendants to colleges and universities, it is going to increase the standard of living, and thereby create a sense of fulfillment and contentment in the community due to economic opportunities.

Conclusion

This idea is not something that is set in stone. With changing times, the idea has also changed. Along with the collective idea about happiness, there is an individual idea of eternal peace as well, which helps us achieve our goals and targets in ways that suit us perfectly.

Here’s to the founding fathers of the U.S. who helped pave the way for freedom, happiness, and individuality for every American citizen!

Over ethereal production from CPSL0CK [Nafets] and Supah Mario [Drake, Young Thug], he offers pearls of wisdom by affirming, “The best advice I got is to love. The best that I can give is to love. All that I can do is love. With all that I been through, I still love.” It serves up an empowering and important statement appropriate for the times. Chaz says, “This moment in time is one of the darkest times in modern history, but at the same time it’s filled with so much hope for change. This generation is tired of waiting for a piece of the “American Dream” for all and are willing to die to get it. It’s all happening in real time, so what a day it is to BE ALIVE.”

The single arrives hot on the heels of “Me” [feat. Cam Wallace] – view video here. Attracting acclaim, HipHopDx described it as “a message of self-love.” Meanwhile, Chaz sat down with University of Maryland football coach Michael Locksley for the Instagram Live show “Late Night with Locks,” and NBCSports plugged it. Be on the lookout for more music from Chaz very soon.

Whoopi = American Dream Dream

Whoopi Goldberg made a personal appearance at American Dream yesterday in East Rutherford, New Jersey to open Whoopi = American Dream, American Dream’s inaugural “Dream Drop.” Ready-to-wear pieces from her DUBGEE collection, a mix of new and vintage holiday sweaters and recently launched book, “The Unqualified Hostess” are now available for purchase in the shop, which is open through January 2020. Whoopi = American Dream is Whoopi Goldberg’s first stand-alone retail experience.

To celebrate the opening, Whoopi Goldberg hosted a public appearance inside the shop from 1PM – 3PM, meeting with guests and signing purchased merchandise. Whoopi’s granddaughter, Amarah Skye, was also on-site hand painting purchased DUBGEE fashions. American Dream future tenant, Sephora, hosted three Mini Lip Service stations outside the space to offer guests festive touch ups.

The shop’s interior is inspired by Whoopi’s home, with saturated walls and Art Deco furniture, creating a residential setting – décor pieces were sourced and curated from her personal collection. A DUBGEE fashion salon lives in the center of the space, allowing guests to browse and try on pieces from the collection, as well as a hand selected assortment of her holiday sweaters. A holiday dining table is featured towards the back of the shop, inspired by “The Unqualified Hostess.”

Guests will have the opportunity to experience the Whoopi = American Dream Dream Drop from November 11, 2019 – January 2020.

Hours of operation will be 11AM – 7PM, Monday – Saturday.

Nitty Gritty Dirt Band

AMERICANA ICONS THE NITTY GRITTY DIRT BAND CELEBRATE 50-YEAR ANNIVERSARY WITH NEW CAREER RETROSPECTIVE, ANTHOLOGY, SUPERVISED BY FOUNDING MEMBER JEFF HANNA

2CD & DIGITAL COLLECTION AVAILABLE ON SEPTEMBER 29 VIA CAPITOL RECORDS NASHVILLE/UMe

Preorder Anthology here: http://UMe.lnk.to/NGDBAnthology

Continuing the celebration of the legendary Americana band’s 50 years of making music together, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band’s extraordinary career is encapsulated in the new retrospective two-disc set, Anthology, due September 29 via Capitol Nashville/UMe. Beginning with “Buy For Me The Rain,” their first track from their 1967 self-titled Capitol records debut, and culminating with “The Resurrection” from their most recent studio release, 2009’S Speed of Life, the all-encompassing collection is an extensive 39-track career overview, which includes illuminating liner notes from renowned journalist and author Holly Gleason. Hanna says, “We really wanted this collection to historically reflect our band’s timeline, but in addition to that, felt like it was important to include deeper cuts (“Fish Song,” “Cosmic Cowboy”) and instrumentals (“Randy Lynn Rag,” “Midnight at Woody Creek”), and fan favorites (“Ripplin’ Waters,” “Bayou Jubilee”). Anthology is available for preorder now: http://UMe.lnk.to/NGDBAnthology

Long before Americana music had a name, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, helped lead the charge, mixing elements of country, bluegrass, folk, mountain music, and rock & roll into a sound that celebrated the full range of American music. Formed in Long Beach, Calif. in 1966, the guys were traditionalists and trendsetters, performing songs that nodded to the past while still pushing toward the future.

From their ubiquitous 1970’s Top 10 hit of Jerry Jeff Walker’s “Mr. Bojangles,” to “An American Dream” – featuring Troubadour pal Linda Ronstadt – and “Make a Little Magic,” with Nicolette Larson, to their #1 country songs, 1984’s “Long Hard Road (Sharecropper’s Dream),” penned by Rodney Crowell and featuring Ricky Skaggs on fiddle and a young Jerry Douglas on dobro, to 1987’s platinum-certified “Fishin’ In The Dark” and many many more, Anthology collects all their best known songs in chronological order of release showcasing the band’s thrilling evolution and numerous highlights.

The Nitty Gritty Dirt Bandare perhaps best known for their landmark album, Will The Circle Be Unbroken, and this groundbreaking achievement and its sequels are ably represented throughout Anthology with a dozen cuts from the three volumes. Released in 1972, Volume 1 saw the band pairing with bluegrass and country legends of the ‘40s, ‘50s and ‘60s such as Roy Acuff, “Mother” Maybelle Carter, Doc Watson, Earl Scruggs, Merle Travis, and Pete “Oswald” Kirby, for an inspired and influential 38-song double album that healed generational and cultural rifts by bringing the new and old guard together. Will The Circle Be Unbroken has been inducted into the U.S. Library of Congress as well as the GRAMMY®: Hall of Fame.

Twelve years after the original, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band revisited their unique experiment for Volume 2. With fellow folk-rock vets Chris Hillman and Roger McGuinn, they took on Bob Dylan’s “You Ain’t Goin’ Nowhere,” a song their guests had popularized in The Byrds. Produced by Randy Scruggs, some of the many collaborators this time included The Band’s Levon Helm, John Prine, John Denver, Johnny Cash, Rosanne Cash and John Hiatt. The album won the Country Music Association’s “Album of the Year,” and three GRAMMYs®: Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group, Best Country Instrumental and Best Bluegrass Recording for “The Valley Road” with Bruce Hornsby. Again, merging moments, movements and cultures, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band captured a state of roots music long before it was called Americana.

The third volume, released in 2002, brought Dwight Yoakam, Willie Nelson, Vince Gill, Emmylou Harris, Del McCoury and Taj Mahal into the fold and took home another GRAMM Y®. To hear Johnny Cash’s weathered dedication of “Tears in the Holsten River” to his mother-in-law Maybelle Carter and her sister Sara is to have the forebears made real, while the next generation appeared as sons Jaime Hanna and Jonathan McEuen brought the circle forward with “The Lowlands.” Alison Krauss joined the band for a sparkling take on Bob McDill’s “Catfish John,” a Johnny Russell hit that became a Jerry Garcia favorite.

For five decades, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band has remained one of the most iconic names in American music. With one foot planted in the traditions of country-folk and the other pointing toward something new and unexpected, the group continues to tour and release music, influencing multiple generations of audiences and artists along the way. Anthology is both a perfect primer for those who want to explore the band’s remarkable career and a lovingly compiled collection for the band’s fans that span generations and genres, keeping the circle ever going.
