IMG Fashion Events, a subsidiary of Endeavor, and Spring Studios, the creative agency for fashion, beauty and culture, and the home of New York Fashion Week: The Shows, announces the creation of a new consumer event: ‘Glam Slam’ – a fashion and tennis experience. The ‘Glam Slam’ will take place Thursday, September 8 – Monday, September 12, 2022, on the Rooftop Terrace of Spring Studios in Tribeca. For the inaugural event, IMG and Spring Studios have partnered with Chase Sapphire to develop a unique program that spans both fashion and sports, combining the best of both worlds.

The ’Glam Slam,’ which takes place during two of New York’s biggest tentpole franchises, the final Tennis major of the year and New York Fashion Week, will celebrate the intersection of tennis and style through a series of daily programming, screenings and hospitality. IMG’s in-house production agency, FOCUS, will produce a full- size tennis court on the roof top of Spring Studios that will serve as the event location for ‘Glam Slam.’

The ‘Glam Slam’ will feature five days of screenings, fashion presentations, limited merch collaborations and appearances from A-list tennis and fashion stars, allowing consumers to experience an exclusive slice of both tennis and fashion during these two quintessential NYC moments. The Glam Slam’ line-up includes IMG Tennis, a division of WME Sports, client, Maria Sharapova, among other tennis stars to be announced, and the fashion industry’s most stylish tennis enthusiasts including Laura BrownCynthia Rowley and Maison Kitsuné, with additional talent to be announced.

“Glam Slam is the natural evolution of our mission to create cultural experiences through the lens of fashion. There is no other company that can tap into an ecosystem of fashion, tennis, culinary and consumer ticketing experiences, all under one roof. This is the first in our expanding portfolio of new IP and consumer franchises that we are developing across the Endeavor network out of IMG Fashion Events,” said Leslie Russo, President, IMG Fashion Events & Properties.

“Glam Slam is at the core of Spring’s future – partnering with our clients and communities to create culturally defining IPs and experiences, capturing the zeitgeist of now,” said Gregoire Assemat Tessandier, President, Spring Studios, North America.

As presenting sponsor, Chase Sapphire is giving Sapphire Reserve cardmembers unique access to this event with VIP seating, bespoke event programming and exclusive event merchandise, all available through the Ultimate Rewards portal. ’Glam Slam’ is just one of many Chase activities that will be available for fans during New York’s major tennis tournament.

“We’re excited to launch this new and innovative ‘Glam Slam’ platform, a one of a kind event for fans and our Chase Sapphire Reserve cardmembers,” said Marleta Ross, General Manager, Chase Sapphire. “As fans continue to return to live events, we look forward to creating more unique opportunities for our cardmembers to enjoy premium experiences at the intersection of culture and entertainment.”

WATCH THE VIDEO HERE

Here, she sits down with Editor in chief, Laura Brown, to talk about what’s next (politics?), her law degree, dating and more.

  • LB: Do you feel like you have a healthier attitude toward your appearance now?
RW: Actually, when you get paparazzi’d and stuff, it does make you think about it. When Pitch Perfect came out, I became internationally famous, and people were hanging outside my house to take my photo. You have to think about it a bit more than a normal person. But I’m a pretty low-maintenance chick. Through working with my stylist, Elizabeth Stewart, I’ve learned all these little tips and tricks—and they really work. Then you feel more comfort- able when you have to dress up. I remember I didn’t even go to a friend’s wedding in my 20s because I didn’t know where to buy a dress in my size. Now it is the opposite. Now I have a wardrobe full of custom Givenchy.
  • LB: You’ve done so much in a relatively short time.
RW: If you look at the odds of someone from Australia making it, they’re pretty small. When I look at all the things I’ve done in my career … I feel like I’ve got so much farther to go. But I am really proud, and, you know, I didn’t have to sleep my way to the top. [laughs]
  • LB: What’s it like dating and such?
RW: People get very intimidated, which is weird, the idea that I would be intimidating to anyone. But it happens all the time, to the point that someone I really liked was so intimidated and got a lot of anxiety and couldn’t have a relationship with me because I’m in the public eye. They didn’t want that, so that kind of sucked. If someone thinks they’re on a date with Fat Amy, that’s not going to happen. Sorry, I can be almost as much fun, but I’m not like that
    in real life.
  • LB: Whose career do you admire?
RW: I like Donna Langley, who runs Universal Studios. I think that’s awesome. Also, I have this weird feeling that I might go into politics in Australia.
  • LB: So what would your political platform be?
RW: I want to help people, and part of my case [in Australia] was standing up to a big, bullying media organization. When I see other people needing to
stand up for themselves, I like to inspire them or help them with the legal knowledge I have. And, God, as a woman, you need to stand up for yourself in so many ways. It’s important, and I think some people do find inspiration from me and my life. My mother was a public-school teacher. I have a sister who is a nurse, and I’m real big into military—I shouldn’t say just military dudes. [laughs] I’m into good education for people. Through the School [of St Jude] in Tanzania, I have been helping to lift kids out of poverty through education. The health-care system is really important. Those are the political platforms I naturally would have because of my background, so I do think when I am done with Hollywood, that’s what will happen.
  • LB: You could go Schwarzenegger. Except do it in Australia.
RW: Yeah, but I feel like I’m more qualified. I have the top law degree from the University of New South Wales.

The Great Lancias

Founded in 1906 by racing driver Vincenzo Lancia, the Turin based automaker has cultivated a history of dynamic rally cars, invigorating racing machines, and performance-oriented street vehicles that embody true Italian flair. The first production Lancia automobile was the 28 horsepower Tipo 51 (also known as the 12 HP). After World War I, Lancia began work on the Lambda. The Lambda was a technological marvel at the time, featuring the first production monocoque construction on a road car, as well as the first use of independent suspension on a production car.

Building upon the success of the Lambda, Lancia debuted the Aurelia in 1950 in Turin. The Aurelia continued Lancia’s tradition of innovation by utilizing an industry first production V6 engine paired to another groundbreaking innovation, the rear transaxle. The Aurelia would go on to achieve class victories at Le Mans and the Mille Miglia. In conjunction with the street car division, Scuderia Lancia was launched to campaign the all new D24 race car. With legends like Juan Manuel Fangio, Alberto Ascari, and Piero Taruffi behind the wheel, the D24 would claim victory at the Carrera Panamericana, Mille Miglia, and Targa Florio.

As Lancia continued to evolve and develop their automobiles, they became legends on world wide rally circuit. Icons like the Fulvia HF, Stratos HF, 037 and Delta would dominate rally racing in the 1970’s and 80’s. Fine examples of Lancia’s street and racing machines will be showcased on the lawn of The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering this year.
