Scissor Sisters Concert Stream

Scissor Sisters, the glam-rock provocateurs who originally made waves in the 2000s and 2010s, have announced a stream of their acclaimed 2007 residency at London’s O2 Arena, which was recorded over July 26, 27 and 28th 2007 and originally appeared in that year’s concert DVD Hurrah! A Year of Ta-Dah. The stream will air exclusively on the Scissor Sister’s Official YouTube Channelon August 1, 2020 at 12 p.m. PT. Band members BabyDaddyJake Shears and Del Marquis will join in the chat to interact with fans and take their questions in real time. To join and view the concert, click HERE

This exclusive concert stream will mark the debut digital appearance of Hurrah! A Year of Ta-Dah’s visual component in its entiretysince it was released 13 years ago. Until now, only a truncated audio version of the 19-track concert existed on Spotify. Many fans are exploring new ways to entertain themselves at home, this reprise of Hurrah! A Year of Ta-Dah will give Scissor Sisters diehards — and the uninitiated — a reason to dance and have fun.

Scissor Sisters arrived on the New York scene as gender-blurring, sex-positive firebrands, burst onto the scene with their 2004 disco makeover of Pink Floyd’s “Comfortably Numb.” Their debut album Scissor Sisters reached number one in the UK and was the best-selling album of 2004, later certified platinum by the BPI, and earned them three BRIT Awards in 2005. In 2006, their follow up single “I Don’t Feel Like Dancin’ hit No. 1 in England and, along with that year’s Ta-Dah, which the track appeared on, vaulted them to superstardom and international accolades. In 2010, Scissor Sisters released Night Work, which peaked at No. 18 on the Billboard 200, and in 2012, they released Magic Hour, which featured guests like Kylie Minogue, Pharrell Williams and Azealia Banks.

The stream of the O2 concert will feature a donate button for the Trans Lifeline. Trans Lifeline is a trans-led 501(c)(3) non-profit organization offering direct emotional and financial support to trans people in crisis through their Hotline and Microgrants programs. They’re for the trans community, by the trans community The Hotline was, and still is, the only service in the U.S. and Canada in which all operators are transgender. Because of the particularly vulnerable relationship transgender people have with police, it is also one of few services with a policy against non-consensual active rescue. Trans Lifeline also recognizes that some problems can’t be solved by emotional support alone, which is why their Microgrants program gives trans people money to legally change their name and gender alongside specialized support for trans people who are imprisoned or detained.

Scissor Sisters, both as a band and individually, have remained intrinsically connected to the fringes of queer culture throughout their career, and in particular have continued to support the queer community in their hometown of New York City. As such, the Trans Lifeline is a charity close to their hearts and they are delighted to be spotlighting them. The collection and dispersal of the funds will be facilitated by YouTube’s Giving program. Fans can donate to Trans Lifeline during the premiere and during the seven-day VOD (video on demand) period afterward.

Next Saturday, get on your dancing shoes and witness this band tear up a stage — and show fans how Scissor Sisters remain germane to the creative and social-justice landscape 13 years on.

Through a series of dynamic lessons, Sheila E. will help members find their rhythm, explore the fundamentals of percussion and drumming and share intimate stories and career advice for aspiring musicians. The class is now available at MasterClass, and members can subscribe for unlimited access to all new and existing 85+ classes through the All-Access Pass. MasterClass categories include business, culinary arts, film & television, music & entertainment, photography, sports and more.

“Sheila E. is a musical pioneer,” said David Rogier, co-founder and CEO of MasterClass. “Her MasterClass is a rare opportunity for members to learn drumming and percussion from a legend-and you don’t even need a drum set to get started. Sheila E. is nothing short of inspiring and magical.”

Sheila Escovedo, best known to music fans as Sheila E., first picked up drumsticks and started making music at the age of three. Inspired by her percussionist father, she delivered her first solo performance to a live audience only two years later and has since established herself as one of the most talented percussionists in the world. By the age of 20, Sheila was already a top session and touring musician, performing with some of the industry’s biggest names such as Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross, Lionel Richie, and Stevie Nicks. In the 1980s, her undeniable talent and hits like “The Glamorous Life” and “A Love Bizarre” led to her international fame. Sheila E.’s producing, arranging and performance talents have been showcased in the music industry through numerous Grammy nominations and performances with the likes of Beyoncé, Hans Zimmer, Jennifer Lopez and Pharrell Williams. Away from the spotlight, she co-founded the Elevate Hope Foundation, which helps young people heal from trauma or neglect through music and art. Sheila E. continues to produce and perform music across the globe and her most recent album, Iconic: Message 4 America, pays tribute to songs that have defined movements fighting for justice and peace.

“I am honored to be the first-ever drummer for MasterClass,” said Sheila E. “When you know what your passion is and what your purpose is, no one and nothing can stand in your way. In my MasterClass, I will share my passion and teach members the fundamentals of percussion, drumming and hopefully, inspire them to make their own music.”

Sheila E.’s MasterClass will take members on a musical journey through her dynamic world of rhythm, percussion, and drumming. Rooted in the belief that anyone can learn to drum, she will demonstrate how to find rhythm by moving, clapping, and using household items like pots and pans. Not only will Sheila E. bring the foundational techniques of drumming to life, but she’ll also teach you how to play some of her most beloved instruments, including the congas and timbales, with help from her father, renowned percussionist Pete Escovedo, and her brothers, Peter Michael and Juan. Sheila E. will share intimate stories and insight from her experiences capturing the spotlight on stage alongside some of the world’s greatest talents, to rising to fame as a solo artist and becoming one of the world’s most famous Latin percussionists. Members will begin by learning the principles of rhythm and basic rudiments on the American drum set, in addition to music theory. The class will also cover intermediate concepts, such as leading a band, training tips, performance techniques and career advice. MasterClass members at all experience levels will master basic drumming techniques and develop a language for drumming that will inspire them to make music and play with others.

The Lion King

Tickets are on sale today for The Lion King, the Jon Favreau-helmed feature film that brings treasured characters to the big screen in a whole new way. The film like the original 1994 version features unforgettable music by an award-winning team, including Oscar and GRAMMY-winning superstar Elton John and Oscar and GRAMMY-winning lyricist Tim Rice, who’ve written an uplifting new song, Never Too Late performed by John, that features an African choir and will appear in the film’s end credits and also on the Walt Disney Records original motion picture soundtrack. The digital soundtrack is set for release at 8 a.m. PDT on July 11, and the physical album is now available for pre-order and set for release on July 19, the same day The Lion King opens in U.S. theaters.

Just hearing that music strikes you deeply, Favreau said. Even if you don’t know the film or stage show, there is a spiritual strength in it. But if you know the film, and if you grew up with this music now it can suddenly and immediately evoke the story itself, as well as all the connected memories and emotions that you have from your own past experience with The Lion King, or from the time of your life that you were in, or your childhood, or the life events it’s connected to.

Added Mitchell Leib, president of music & soundtracks for The Walt Disney Studios, The incredible musical talents who came together to contribute to this project are unparalleled. Jon Favreau’s deep love and instinct for musical collaboration inspired Hans Zimmer, Lebo M, Pharrell Williams, Elton John, Tim Rice, Beyoncé, Donald Glover and the entire music team to an awesome level of generosity, spirit and commitment, resulting in a powerful journey of song, production and performance.

The Lion King original motion picture soundtrack features new recordings of the original songs written by Elton John and Tim Rice, score by Oscar and GRAMMY winning composer Hans Zimmer, plus African vocal and choir arrangements by GRAMMY-winning South African producer and composer Lebo M (Rhythm of the Pride Lands). Oscar-nominated and GRAMMY-winning singer, songwriter and producer Pharrell Williams (Hidden Figures/producer,Happy), produced five songs on the soundtrack.

In revisiting the score for The Lion King,Éd; Zimmer realized the original themes and music were the emotional spine of the story. He brought back many who worked on the original film, including Lebo M, orchestrator Bruce Fowler, conductor Nick Glennie-Smith, arranger Mark Mancina, plus several singers from the choir including Carmen Twillie (who performed Circle of Life in the 1994 movie).

Zimmer wanted to approach the score differently for the new film and enlisted the Re-Collective Orchestra (led by founders Matt Jones and Stephanie Matthews), along with the Hollywood Studio Symphony (comprised of Los Angeles-based session players), and his band. The goal was to rehearse and record the score like a live concert performance.

Music from the animated film released in 1994 won two Academy Awards (original song and original score), four GRAMMYS and two Golden Globes. The soundtrack was No. 1 on the Billboard 200 album chart for 10 nonconsecutive weeks and was certified Diamond by the RIAA, for 10 million units sold.
