Exodus: Deluxe Edition

The Marley Family, Island Records, and UMe mark the 45th anniversary of Exodus – named the “Best Album of the 20th Century” by Time magazine in 1999 – with the digital premiere of three of the four nights from Bob Marley & the Wailers’ historic run at London’s Rainbow Theatre and a consolidated, revised digital Exodus: Deluxe Edition.

Following an assassination attempt in Kingston, Jamaica, in December 1976, Bob Marley and his band moved to London – in “exodus” from their home country – and recorded tracks for what became both the Exodus and Kaya albums. Marley’s Exodus, featuring the timeless tracks “Jamming,” “Three Little Birds,” “One Love/People Get Ready,” and the epic title song, came first, which led to early positive reviews, ten early dates around Western Europe and shows at the Rainbow Theatre in London’s Finsbury Park during release week. But an injury to Bob led to the abrupt cancellation of the rest of the Exodus tour, including expected U.S. breakthrough shows scheduled for late summer, leaving June 1-2-3-4 the final performances by the Wailers that year.

“London was one of Daddy’s favorite places to be; it’s the city where his songwriting and creativity thrived. The Exodus album and his shows at The Rainbow are incredible examples of that. I’m so excited that his fans will finally be able to hear all four shows, in their entirety, the way they were meant to be heard, for generations to come.” – Cedella Marley

A select number of tracks from each of the four nights of the Live at the Rainbow recordings have been included on previously released Deluxe Editions of Exodus, and audio and video of the full concert on June 4 was released during the year-long 75th Birthday Celebration, #Marley75, in 2020. Most of the legendary performances from the previous three nights, however, feature slightly different setlists – as well as alternate arrangements – that have never been heard until now. Bob Marley & The Wailers Live at the Rainbow: 1st June 1977 debuted June 3, the exact 45th anniversary of the original album’s release; Live at the Rainbow: 2nd June 1977 followed on June 10; and Live at the Rainbow: 3rd June 1977 concluded the series on June 17. Across the three dates are 29 previously unreleased performances combined – that’s more than ¾ of the shows.

To round out the 45th Anniversary celebration, a revised and newly remastered Exodus: Deluxe Edition was released on June 24. The Deluxe Edition features the ten original tracks from the album, plus 18 Singles & Sessions tracks; 13 of them are culled from two previous Deluxe Editions and adds previously unreleased tracks “Natural Mystic (Alternate Version),” and “The Heathen (Alternate Version),” and the rare 7-inch versions of “Exodus,” “Jamming” and “Punky Reggae Party,’ the original B-side to “Jamming.” In addition to the unreleased tracks, the last two cuts were previously unavailable at all streaming services. Closing the deluxe are two additional bonus tracks: the edited live versions of “So Much Things To Say” from the June 1st show, previously released on the Deluxe Edition of Exodus 40 – The Movement Continues in 2017, and “Exodus,” the finale from the Rainbow’s June 2nd set, previously featured on the album’s 2001 Deluxe Edition. Each performance is otherwise presented unedited within their respective live set. To listen to Bob Marley & the Wailers’ Exodus: Deluxe Edition, click HERE.

Global superstar Justin Bieber announces the final North American show of his sold-out Justice World Tour, set to take place at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles on July 3. Tickets for the July 3 Forum show will go on sale this Friday May 6 at 10am PT via Ticketmaster.

Last week, Justin teamed up with director Cole Bennett for his new single +video “Honest,” featuring Don Toliver. “Honest” marks Justin’s first official single since “Ghost” – the anthemic finale to the multi-platinum, Grammy-nominated Justice – went #1 at pop radio in January, making chart history with the most #1 hits by a male solo artist in US radio history and the only fifth artist ever to reach twenty Top 5 hits on Hot 100. “Stay” with Kid Laroi, Justin’s eighth career Hot 100 #1 single, made him the youngest solo artist ever to reach 100 hits on the chart. “Peaches,” his certified-triple-platinum smash, made Justin the first male solo artist to debut at #1 on both the Billboard 200 album chart and Billboard Hot 100 singles chart simultaneously.

Justin Bieber’s eighth #1 album Justice has sold over eight million copies globally, amassed over 12 billion global streams, and was nominated for eight Grammys, including Album Of The Year. With an astounding 100 billion career streams and over 75 million albums sold globally, Justin reigns as one of the biggest artists in the world. Bieber is the #1 artist on YouTube with over 68 million subscribers worldwide and is the #1 artist on Spotify global with 79 million monthly listeners.

Justin – who was named Artist Of The Year at the 2021 MTV VMAs and is currently nominated for thirteen Billboard Music Awards – has been wowing fans nightly on the opening leg of his Justice World Tour 2022, the biggest and most ambitious tour of his career. Throughout, Justin has remained committed to using his platform for social good, bringing his ‘Justice In Action’ initiative to fans across the country, raising awareness on important issues like criminal justice reform, climate action, voter registration and much more.

The Justice World Tour international shows start this month in Mexico and will then continue on to Scandinavia for festival shows in August; South America, South Africa and the Middle East in September & October, and then over to Australia and New Zealand in November & December before moving to the UK and Europe in early 2023.

The Justice World Tour, promoted by AEG Presents, is Justin’s first global outing since 2016/2017’s ‘Purpose World Tour’. Described by The Times of London as “mesmerising”, Bieber played to 2.7 million fans over the course of his 2016-2017 run, with the finale seen by 65,000 fans at London’s British Summer Time Hyde Park festival.

As the official wireless partner for the Justice World Tour, T-Mobile and Justin Bieber continue their successful partnership, forged in 2017 with their #UnlimitedMoves Super Bowl campaign. T-Mobile customers can get access to stage-front tickets at every U.S. tour stop, even the sold-out shows! Un-carrier customers can snag their Reserved Tickets starting 30 days prior to each show at first day prices – just another way T-Mobile thanks its customers simply for being customers.

NICKI MINAJ F/ LIL BABY – BUSSIN

Nicki Minaj’s new track ‘Bussin’ in collaboration with Lil Baby comes following one week of the release of another cooperation project between both artists on ‘Do We have a Problem? Listen to ‘Bussin’HERE.

The fast-paced, electrifying hit releases amidst growing anticipation for Nicki’s new 2022 album. She has been caught pondering the new persona she aims to take on with the latest album, stating on Instagram Live, “what should we call this person’s name?” Although nothing has been revealed yet, she assured her fans that she would “figure it out.”

The icon has, too, been in the public’s attention following TikTok fumbling a Black History Month (BHM) event with Nicki herself. The event was entitled Black History Month Creator Meet Up x Nicki Minaj, as corresponding with emails showcased in a TikTok by the creator Dessy Joseph.

TikTok promised to celebrate BHM with this event, but the turnout spoke otherwise. Attendees observed that those in the turnout for the event were primarily non-Black creators. It was also revealed that Black creators were not given a link to the event until ten minutes after the beginning of the meetup, around 6:10 PM.

Joseph spoke on the disappointment, stating in a TikTok, “Black creators with millions of followers didn’t receive links till 6:10, weren’t prioritized, weren’t given questions, nothing. When people did get in, they did see a screen full of not-Black faces.”

TikTok released a statement that attributed the upset of the event to “extensive technical issues with production,” as to why guests had problems accessing the event. They, too, noted that a wide range of creators were invited to the occasion.

As seen by BuzzFeed News, the email statement stated, “The meet-up was open to our collective community of creators — including #BlackTikTok #CasaTikTok, #LearnOnTikTok, and more. On behalf of the TikTok creator team, we apologize for the confusion and negative experience, as this was intended to be an opportunity for fans to connect with Nicki in a unique setting to celebrate her new music.”

Nicki answered to fans uproar around the BHM event on an Instagram Live, telling them, “I heard what y’all were saying, and let me see if I can schedule something else for you guys.”

BLACC ZACC- LOOKIN LIKE

South Carolina’s ultimate trap star Blacc Zacc (South Coast Music Group/Interscope Records) is ready to break even more ground this new year after a productive 2021. To get things rolling, Zacc taps platinum producer JetsonMade for his thumping new track “Lookin Like.” Directed by TKTKTK, Zacc gives the 1999 seminal film The Matrix a modern-day flip after being asked to choose money or a chain. Zacc opts for the latter and morphs into a moneymaking machine. After landing a colossal goldmine in the form of a $100,000,000 deposit, Zacc encounters bloodthirsty agents. Luckily, he dodges their attacks with a Neo-inspired move and takes them out on his own. Watch HERE.

In 2021, Zacc unleashed a pair of videos in “Lace Front” and “Dirty Money,” which came on the heels of Zacc’s 2020 album 803 Legend. He also opened up for MoneyBagg Yo as part of the Memphis rapper’s A Gangsta’s Pain Tour. Released in October 2020, the Carolina Narcos MC tightened his grip on the trap world with his 13-track collection. With features by Kevin Gates, 42 Dugg, Foogiano, Fat Loc, and more, 803 Legend included a flurry of highlights, ranging from “Tennis” to his bombastic tune “Knew Dat.”

Since his 11-track debut album Carolina Narcos’ release, Blacc Zacc has emerged from the trenches with his trap-infused raps. Featuring his rap compatriots DaBaby, Moneybagg Yo, Yo Gotti, Stunna 4Vegas, fans have gravitated towards Zacc’s street appeal. The album also boasted production by Young Kio, OG Parker, Romano, and more.

ELLA MAI – DFMU

Ella Mai (10 Summers/Interscope Records) has audiences back in their feelings with the highly anticipated release of her latest single “DFMU” (Don’t F*** Me Up). Teaming up with her longtime musical collaborator Mustard and working alongside Prince Charlez on the track, Ella speaks from the heart opening up about how it feels to fall in love and the internal battles that accompany that journey. With lyrics like “didn’t think it’d ever be so hard, crazy I’m letting down my guard,” this new single is a snapshot of Ella at her most exposed. Ella Mai is featured on the cover of New Music Daily and R&B Now on Apple Music. Fans can listen to her newest offering HERE.

Ella drives home the message of “DFMU” with a stunning, moody visual directed by Loris Russier. The 90’s-inspired flare reflects the songstress’s love and appreciation for the R&B artists of that time. Showing off a more vulnerable side we see Ella and her lover slowly drowning inside a car, an appropriate representation of how a toxic relationship can pull you down. Watch HERE.

In 2018 Ella Mai’s first single “Boo’d Up” broke the record for the most weeks at No. 1 of any song by a woman on the R&B/Hip-Hop Billboard Airplay chart and is RIAA Certified 7x multi-Platinum. Her follow-up single “Trip” peaked at No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100, and her album, Ella Mai, is RIAA Certified 2x Platinum. In addition to her chart-topping domination and success, the 10 Summers Records’ breakout star Ella Mai has won several awards, including her first GRAMMY for Best R&B Song, three Billboard Music Awards including the coveted Top R&B Artist, three iHeartRadio awards including R&B Artist of the Year, three Soul Train Awards, and a BET Viewers’ Choice Award.

Spotlight on Art Block

By: Vaughn Lowery

As of late, we had the opportunity to speak with a Londoner artist, Art Block. His project has been supported by producer Ian Barter (Paloma Faith, Allman Brown, Hannah Grace) who recently worked on an album with British fashionista and singer Gabrielle.

What inspires your music?

I am inspired by the spiritual and emotional. Sometimes I feel my music is coming to me from a higher place and I try to draw upon that. It’s almost as if I’m just a channel for creativity. A few of my songs have been inspired by the memory of my mother who passed away many years ago. I would like my music to heal others.

And this new project?

The songs on Extended Play were written during lockdown when the whole world just stopped. It was a worrying time but also a time for reflection and appreciating beauty. The songs are some of my most personal yet, delving into dark aspects of my childhood, exploring my love of London where I was born, then returning to other themes of introspection and love. Love hopefully is the most powerful emotion radiating through the songs.

What’s next for you?

I am hoping to collaborate with some new musicians, remix songs and write something new. I’m constantly writing these days as if I’m on the cusp of a creative wave. I’m looking forward to playing live more too.

If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be?

I admire Marcus Hamblett’s work as a session musician and artist. Also Jay Chakravorty with his electronic and strings compositions which mold the old with the new.

Do you write all of your lyrics? if so, can you elaborate on your creative process?

Yes, I do. I think I have already touched upon it above. I hear melodies first and try to find the best words to match them. Sometimes it takes several drafts before finding the right words for a song. Experience also has a transformative creative power.

Describe your sound and genre? List your top five influences and song?

My sound is in the alt-folk and classic alt-rock category. Some have compared my music to Thom Yorke or Nick Drake, which is a huge compliment!

I don’t really have a top five influence, I listen to everything from Wu Tang Clan to Rachmaninoff and everything in between! I suppose Pink Floyd have been an influential band over the years and more recently Bear’s Den or Ben Howard. I’m also a Depeche Mode fan, which probably explains my electronic influences.

How do you feel about the music industry overall? Do you think artists should still sign with major labels?

The music industry is very fickle and focused too much on commercial products rather than nurturing talent. There are too many people doing the same thing and the market is over saturated. People have low attention spans leading to two and a half minute songs designed to please Spotify’s algorithm.

Whether artists should join a major label is up to them. They can provide more bandwidth and resources than doing it by yourself. But as I say above many of these companies focus solely on making a profit. It might be better in the short term to remain an independent artist where you keep most of any revenues you are able to generate. Labels are also known for dropping artists quickly who don’t sell enough records.

Is there any advice that you could offer to aspiring recording artists?

Write as much as possible and listen to the best in your genre and watch what they do.

Are you aligned with any humanitarian endeavors or organizations?

Not formally but as I mentioned above I would like my music to heal. There’s a lot of pain in the world, mostly caused by ourselves, which music can help to alleviate. There are circumstances beyond our control. But at the same time there’s so much we can do as individuals to bring positive change in the world.

Fletcher – Healing

FLETCHER DEBUTS THE OFFICIAL VIDEO FOR EMPOWERED NEW SINGLE HEALING WATCH HERE

FLETCHER debuts the official video for her new single Healing, a powerful anthem to reflect the times, one of self-awareness and discovery. Watch the video HERE and download/stream Healing HERE.

V Magazine said, In stunning new visuals co-directed by Fletcher and Ava Rikki, the rising artist enters a new era. Your next summer anthem has arrived… FLETCHER isn’t just a pop star but an artist and this music video is her testimony. A simplistic trap beat backgrounds (her) airy light vocals as she declares herself on the journey of self love and recovery, unlearning false self perceptions and entering the next phase of a glow-up journey.

Healing finds the acclaimed singer/songwriter reclaiming her interior resolve, making a natural progression from her critically-lauded EP THE S(EX) TAPES, a boldly personal project executive-produced by Malay (Lorde, Frank Ocean). Co-written with Scott Harris (Shawn Mendes, Khalid) and ALDAE (Justin Bieber, Kid Laroi), Healing is rooted in the raw emotional intimacy that FLETCHER is known for and offers her most gripping vocal performance to date.

NME said, ‘Healing’ (is) luminous…An ode to the reclamation of one’s inner strength, the new track shines with a soundscape of warm guitars and summery synth percussion, over which Fletcher boldly embraces her rawness and humanity. Variance declared, If purposeful pop is a thing, FLETCHER’s ‘Healing’ is absolutely it, and Uproxx named the soaring track, Best New Pop Music and said, leaning on a skittering beat, FLETCHER lilts powerful lines about the important of understanding there’s no such thing as a quick fix for your personal problems.

The process of making this song was really freeing, says FLETCHER. We’re all healing from something, she says. The world is healing right now. I can feel the collective energy of people waking up to their power and connecting to themselves in a way that humanity never has before. Healing isn’t a linear process, and it’ll take you on the most insane roller coaster ride of your life. But it’s worth the view at the top.

Currently at work on her debut album, Healing is FLETCHER’s first single since her 2020 hit Bitter, a track that’s amassed over 150 million streams to date. Hailed by Idolator as a breakup anthem for the ages, Bitter is a standout cut from THE S(EX) TAPES, a collection of magnetic and moody pop songs about finding your forever person before you find yourself and, as a result, needing to uncover the parts of you that remain unknown. Soon after arriving last September, the EP earned praise from outlets like Nylon, Teen Vogue, PAPER, SPIN (who noted there aren’t any rules when it comes to FLETCHER’s music) and more.

About FLETCHER

Praised by leading outlets like TIME, Wonderland, V Magazine, Harper’s Bazaar, Interview Magazine, GQ, The Guardian and more, FLETCHER hails from Asbury Park, New Jersey, where she cultivated her passion for music and her unforgettably candid storytelling. After graduating from NYU’s famed Clive Davis Institute for Recorded Music, FLETCHER carved out a distinct space for herself in pop music, and in 2019 released her debut EP you ruined new york city for me via Capitol Records. The widely lauded EP features her breakthrough hit Undrunk, a track that spent several weeks on the Billboard Hot 100, scored the #1 spot on Spotify’s Viral Chart, emerged as the fastest-rising song at pop radio from a new artist in the past five years, and earned FLETCHER a nomination for iHeartRadio’s Best New Pop Artist. Over the years, FLETCHER has sold out several headline tours and landed impressive slots at Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, Life is Beautiful, and other major festivals. Released in September 2020, FLETCHER’s EP THE S(EX) TAPES hit No. 1 on iTunes across all genres and drew acclaim from outlets like Teen Vogue, SPIN, PAPER, and many others. An unfiltered look into FLETCHER’s world, the EP is a collection of magnetic and moody pop songs about feeling like you’ve found your forever person before you find yourself and, as a result, needing to uncover the parts of you that remain unknown. The EP’s lead single Bitter has now surpassed 150 million global streams. FLETCHER’s television performances include The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, The Today Show and Ellen. An outspoken activist of the #MeToo movement throughout her career, FLETCHER released the 2018 track I Believe You in support of sexual assault survivors, garnering over 50 million streams to date. She was also recently nominated for a 2021 GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Breakthrough Music Artist. One of FLETCHER’s latest tracks, Last Laugh is available now on the soundtrack to the Academy Award-winning film Promising Young Woman.

ARKELLS × BLINK ONCE

ARKELLS ANNOUNCE HIGHLY ANTICIPATED NEW STUDIO ALBUM, BLINK ONCE, DUE FOR RELEASE SEPTEMBER 30TH

NEW SINGLE ONE THING I KNOW” OUT TODAY

LIVE DATES TO BE ANNOUNCED SOON

Today, Arkells announced their sixth studio album, Blink Once, to be released on September 30th via Universal Music Canada. This new collection of songs prove Arkells continue to push their sound to new heights, with the anthemic Blink Once promising to live up to their famous live show.

Pre-save Blink Once now via your preferred platform.

Now more than ever, it seems our lives can change in the blink of an eye. We began working on this album before the world changed and this title felt right given where we’ve collectively landed. Everyday you wake up and you think you know a lot of stuff, then it turns out – you don’t.
– Arkells frontman Max Kerman

The bi-coastal project, recorded in LA and completed in Toronto, includes current hit single, “You Can Get It” featuring K.Flay, which has charted in the #1 spot at Canadian Alternative Radio for 4 weeks and is their fifth #1 at the format. “You Can Get It” was prominently featured in the E3 launch of the Forza Horizon 5 video game trailer this summer. Blink Once also includes #1 track “Years In The Making,” as well as “All Roads,” which serves as the soundtrack to #TogetherAgain, a national vaccine awareness PSA to combat vaccine hesitancy.

The announcement comes alongside the release of sure fire live stand-out, “One Thing I Know,” a rowdy, feel-good sing-a-along that is bursting at the seams. The music video was filmed after-hours at No Frills’ Dufferin Mall location in downtown Toronto, and finds the band mischievously performing the track at full throttle. “This song is about not being ashamed of who you are and where you come from,” notes Kerman. “The best version of yourself lets your colours show – to feel free, weird and unburdened by all the things out of our control.”

Watch the official “One Thing I Know” music video on YouTube now.

Regularly credited as one of the hardest working bands (period), Arkells have stayed ever-present, even in a global pandemic. Releasing three #1 singles and picking up the 2021 JUNO Award for Group of The Year, Arkells also filled their time off the road by releasing their first acoustic-leaning project, Campfire Chords – a deluxe LP & play-at-home guitar chord book inspired by their most beloved hits, and the band’s live streamed interactive music lessons that moved fans to learn new skills while “flattening the curve” from home.

About Arkells:

Hailed by The Globe and Mail as “the right kind of band for this decade,” Arkells are widely considered one of the most passionate, exuberant and in-demand live bands working today. As radio mainstays, sports-sync shoe-ins and curious students of culture, Arkells have remained ever present – building awareness and personal community experiences around their live shows and new music at every turn. The most emblematic example of this being The Rally, Arkells hometown concert that was hailed as one of the biggest headline shows in the country, and is slated to return in 2022. On the heels of three #1 singles, Arkells continue to unleash new music and tour dates as the band and their fans return to live in-person festivities. Their hotly anticipated new album, Blink Once, releases globally September 30th.
