Holistic CBD Beauty Therapy

When OLIVEDA founder, Thomas Lommel, discovered the active ingredient cannabidiol/CBD, he researched the great synergy effects that arise in connection with the legendary cell elixir from the olive leaf and developed a new beauty line for inside and outside:

LA DOPE is a holistic, highly active cosmetic based on the power of the two oldest cultivated plants in the world. It combines the legendary active ingredient cannabidiol from the hemp plant with the highly active antioxidants oleuropein and hydroxytyrosol from the olive leaf to create powerful beauty grenades.

LA DOPE provides protection and care with 100 percent pure effectiveness because all products contain the precious cell elixir from the olive leaf, instead of water. Due to the globally unique composition of the emulsions, LA DOPE works with the intelligence of nature, which intuitively recognizes the individual texture of the skin and its current needs. LA DOPE actively regenerates and balances skin’s texture on this basis.

True to the OLIVEDA tradition, LA DOPE is also holistically oriented, starting with products for internal use, and then devoting itself to the skin with various serums, oils and creams.

The synergy effect from the transforming energy of cannabidiol with the extraordinarily protective and regenerative effects of the cell elixir from the olive leaf makes LA DOPE the perfect CBD, holistic beauty therapy. For beauty that comes from within and radiates outwards. Dope your wrinkles from within with Oliveda and LA DOPE.

Guide To Different Perfume Types

Shopping for new perfume can be somewhat overwhelming, especially when you have to think of all the elements to consider. This can be anything from the type of perfume to the scent profiles.

However, before you consider all the add-ons, it is important to know the different types of perfumes that are available on the market. Thus, below we have outlined an in-depth guide to different perfume types for a proper introduction to the world of perfumes.

 Types Of Perfumes

Typically, there are five types of perfumes on the market. These include Parfum, Eau de parfum, Eau de toilette, Eau de cologne, and Eau de Fraiche. The main difference between these perfume types is their fragrance oil concentration; which ultimately, affects other behaviors and characteristics of the perfume.

 Parfum

Parfum is the purest form of perfume available on the market. Otherwise known as Extrait de parfum or pure perfume, Parfum boasts the highest fragrance oil concentration.  Typically, Parfum contains between 15% to 25% fragrance oil concentrations. However, sometimes, you may find premium perfumes with fragrance oil concentrations of up to 40%.

Due to this high fragrance oil concentration, Parfum tends to be the most expensive perfume type on the market. This is caused by the high cost of obtaining the fragrance oil. For example, you need up to 10,000 roses to make a single 5ml bottle of essential rose oil. Thus, the fragrance oil extraction phase can be quite costly.

It gets even more expensive for perfume makers that make their perfume using rare and premium ingredients.  Additionally, because of this high fragrance oil concentration, Parfum tends to last the longest amongst all the perfume types. When you apply Parfum, it can last on your skin anywhere between 6 and 24 hours.

Because it has a higher fragrance oil concentration, this means that it has the lowest alcohol concentrations. So for people with sensitive skin such as dry skin, Parfum is an excellent option, if you can of course afford it.

Eau De Parfum

Eau de parfum, also known as EDP, has the second-highest fragrance oil concentration after Parfum and has a higher alcohol concentration than Parfum. Similar to Parfum, it is a better option for sensitive skin as well, because its alcohol content is still relatively low.

Generally, Eau de Parfum contains anywhere between 15% and 20% fragrance oil concentration. It is generally less expensive than parfum, nevertheless, somewhat expensive. When applied on your skin, depending on the scent profile and ingredients, Eau de parfum will last you between 4 and 6 hours.

Amongst perfume types, it is one of the most commonly sought after as it is suitable and somewhat reasonably priced for everyday wear. Its longevity means that you can go a whole day and refresh it just once or not needing to refresh it at all.

Eau De Toilette

Eau De Toilette, also known as EDT, has the third highest fragrance oil concentration. EDTs have a fragrance oil concentration of between 5% and 15% and similar to EDPs, there are amongst the most popular perfume types. However, EDTs exist with false presumptions amongst most consumers – probably perpetuated by salespersons – that they are not as good as EDPs. Don’t fall for his trick!

EDPs are not at all better than EDTs – well, except in situations where you are comparing a high end EDP with a low end EDT. Eau de Toilettes are a variation of EDPs with less fragrance oil concentrations. Thus, their difference is that they are less strong (scent wise) than EDPS. However, their quality is the same.

Eau de Toilettes are designed for individuals that are looking for the same scent but an option that is more subtle rather than strong and pungent. Typically, many perfume experts consider Eau de toilette a daywear fragrance and Eau de parfum as a nightwear fragrance.

Similarly, Eau de toilette will last you anywhere between 4 and 6 hours. So the next time you are perfume shopping, compare these two perfume types only based on the strength of their scents rather than longevity or quality – EDPs are not necessarily better than EDTs!

Eau De Cologne

Eau De Cologne, also known as EDC, is formulated with one of the lowest fragrance oil concentrations amongst other perfume types. Eau de Cologne has a fragrance oil concentration of between 2% to 8% and the highest alcohol concentration.  The lower fragrance oil concentration makes EDCs quite cheaper.

Many EDCs come in bigger bottles as you may require you to apply more compared to when you apply Parfum or Eau de parfum. Typically, many EDCs are formulated for men as lighter fragrance variations for stronger perfume scents. Additionally, EDCs are used as colognes or aftershaves. Their recipes normally consist of herb and citrus notes as well.

Eau De Fraiche

Eau De Fraiche, also known as Fragrance water, is somewhat similar to Eau De Cologne as it lasts within an hour or two of application. Eau de Fraiche boasts the lowest fragrance oil concentration of between 1% and 5%. A good example of Eau de Fraiche is fragrance or body mist.

Eau de Fraiche has the lowest fragrance oil concentration, however; it doesn’t have the highest alcohol concentration. Instead, most of the remainder of Eau de Fraiche is water; which accounts for the name fragrance water.

Whilst there are different perfume types, the key principle to stick with when choosing a perfume to invest in is that a higher fragrance oil concentration equals higher perfume cost. However, a higher fragrance oil concentration also equates to stronger perfume scent and sometimes, longevity. It is also a good idea to know the ideal purpose for your perfume.

For example, Eau de parfum is ideal for nightwear whilst Eau de toilette is ideal for nightwear. Eau de cologne is mostly formulated as a cologne or aftershave. Fragrance water on the other end is ideal for refreshing whether you are at the gym or the beach. After equipping yourself with the right information about perfume types, your next step would be to learn about the perfect scent profiles.

HEMP VS. CBD

On the shelf, both hemp oil and CBD oil look very similar. They are both extracted from industrial hemp plants grown in the United States, and they both claim to have the same purported health benefits? Which one truly offers you more with each serving?

Although they look and sound similar, each designation refers to a completely different product. Here’s why you should consider choosing CBD oil over hemp oil

Hemp Oil May Be One of Many Products

Unlike CBD oil, hemp oil may refer to one of many different products. The designation “hemp oil” is given to oils collected from industrial hemp plans, or crushed hempseed plants.

In this circumstance, “hemp oil” is a closer match to traditional CBD oil than hempseed-based “hemp oil.” A tincture or capsule derived from hempseeds contains only trace amounts of cannabidiols (the good stuff from CBD oil), and are primarily used in cooking oils, beauty products and paint.

Hemp oil derived from hempseeds is noted for a completely different set of health benefits. Comparable to chia seed oil and flaxseed oil, hempseed oil is noted for a high concentration of proteins, fatty acids and amino acids. These compounds are all noted for their health benefits: Omega-3 and Omega-6 oils are good for joint health, while amino acids and proteins may help reduce the chance of cardiovascular disease.

Where Hemp Oil and CBD Oil Differ

Even if you do find a hemp oil derived from natural plants, it may not necessarily be the same as CBD oil. Because hemp oil is often derived from hempseeds instead of specially-grown domestic Cannabis sativa plants, it may not contain all the benefits of CBD oil.

Organic, full spectrum CBD oil are extracted from the full hemp plant. Leaves, stalks and flowers are processed to extract all of the cannabidiols out of the plant. In turn, users may receive the benefits of full cannabidiol, which have been documented in several peer-reviewed case studies.

And while full-spectrum CBD oil does contain a trace amount of THC – the compound that creates the traditional “high” of cannabis – it’s not nearly enough to give you that feeling. The industrial limit for THC in full-spectrum CBD oil is 0.3% by dry weight, which is not enough to register on most drug tests, nor is it enough to give you that funny feeling.

While CBD oil is safe for everyday consumption in most people, you should always discuss adding any product or regimen with your doctor. By going over your current medications and plans for CBD oil, they can help you decide if it’s right for your lifestyle.

Should I Use CBD Oil or Hemp Oil?

If you’re looking for an alternative to olive oil in cooking or baking, Hemp oil offers health benefits, and can often be found at natural foods stores. However, Hemp oil and CBD oil are not the same thing.

If you are looking for potential health benefits from an oil that can be used orally or topically, then CBD oil is always your best bet. Before buying and product, make sure it actually contains the full spectrum cannabidiols, instead of just hemp seeds.

Record Turnover For LIQUI MOLY With Lower Growth

During its first year as part of the Würth Group LIQUI MOLY has chalked up a new record turnover. But the growth has been more subdued than previously. The German oil and additive specialist recorded a turnover of € 544 million, just two percent more than the previous year. “International trade disputes, the hot summer and increasing costs, especially the dramatically increased crude oil prices, have all contributed to the significant slowing down of our earnings growth,” says Ernst Prost, LIQUI MOLY CEO.

Whilst previous years have been noted for their high growth rates, 2018 was an exception with much more moderate growth. October was the most successful month in the company’s more than 60 year history, with a turnover of almost € 54 million and growth of 34 percent. A range of factors prevented there being a similarly high rate of growth across the whole year. Latent global trade disputes had an impact on LIQUI MOLY. Business with China, for example, decreased by a third. And trade with Russia, a significant export market for the company, has also decreased rapidly over the last two years due to the substantial devaluation of the ruble. “Such changes cannot help but have an impact,” says Export Manager Salvatore Coniglio. “These setbacks in China and Russia would have had a much greater impact if we were not active in 150 countries. We can offset the reduction in turnover in some countries by opening up new markets in others.”

One of the greatest rays of hope in terms of export was the development of the subsidiary LIQUI MOLY USA, which handles business in the USA and Canada. It posted an increase of 39 percent in comparison with the previous year. This strong growth was no coincidence. LIQUI MOLY invested heavily in personnel, in order to offer its customers a comprehensive service.

The dents in export performance did nothing to cushion the fragile growth in the highly competitive German market. “In present circumstances, a two percent growth in Germany and Austria is a huge success,” says CEO Günter Hiermaier, “after all, the number of competitors has increased but the pie to be shared is still the same size. And so the competition is correspondingly fierce. We continue to rely on a combination of marketing packages and sales power.”

At the same time as turnover growth has reduced, the company’s costs have dramatically increased. On top of investment in additional inventory control strategies, new software and an additional tank storage facility of around eleven million euro, increasing raw material prices added additional costs of around six million euro. The weather also had an impact.  The prolonged period of high temperatures over the summer restricted the use of the Rhine and made it unnavigable at times which, in turn, increased the transport costs for raw materials and finished goods. “Overall, our freight and logistics costs increased by some € 1.2 million. All in all, a cold shower. Of course, a double hit like this, higher costs and lower than planned turnover, has brought our performance to its knees. But that is how it goes in life, and in business, you have to adapt to new circumstances or you’re out of the running. And no two years are the same,” says Ernst Prost.

Spending on marketing and on research and development have also increased, but this was planned. In 2017 LIQUI MOLY invested € 19.8 million in brand awareness, and almost a million more in 2018. The biggest coup of all is undoubtedly the endorsement contract with the Chicago Bulls. The basketball team is one of the most well-known global sports brands. They boast 175 million fans. “No other professional team in the USA can top this,” says Marketing Director Peter Baumann, explaining the significance of international activities to the German company.

Nationally and internationally, the quality associated with “Made in Germany”, still has enormous pulling power for LIQUI MOLY. And this consistently high quality requires research and development, spending in this area has risen to almost € 6 million. “Modern lubricants are highly complex solutions. If you want to stay at the top of the game, you need the latest technology for development and quality testing,” explains David Kaiser who is responsible for this area and for application technology.

Another figure that has led to increased costs is the number of LIQUI MOLY employees. 24 jobs were created in 2018. A total of 848 people are now employed in Ulm, Saarlouis and the international subsidiaries. “We are more than happy to be spending this money, it is always a pleasure to be creating jobs. We are also happy to pay the additional one million euro for the new wage agreement from the Industrial Mining, Chemistry and Energy Union, as it benefits people in the LIQUI MOLY family,” says Ernst Prost.

Since the CEO sold his shares to the Würth Group at the turn of the year, many have been fearing radical change at the oil and additive specialist. “The opposite is the case,” says Ernst Prost. “My business cards now just say CEO instead of Managing Partner and our long-standing Sales Director Günter Hiermaier has risen to be our second CEO, but otherwise it is business as usual.”

Rare Glimpse of Tennessee Williams Paintings

At the Jewish Museum of Florida-FIU in Miami Beach

On view now through October 7th

From the Collection of David Wolkowsky,

Scion of Pioneer Jewish Family that Settled Key West in the 1800s and Contributed to the History

of Jews in the State Florida

Long known as “Mr. Key West,” David Wolkowsky, the famed scion of Florida’s pioneer Jewish family that helped to settle Key West in the 1800s, has loaned his paintings by close friend Tennessee Williams to the Jewish Museum of Florida-FIU for their premiere in Miami Beach.

This is one of the few times they have been exhibited outside of Key West. The exhibition Tennessee Williams: Playwright and Painter is an intimate showing of nine exquisitely rare paintings by one of America’s greatest playwrights, created by Williams in Key West during the 1970s. One of his closest friends was David Wolkowsky, the Key West developer who owned a private island called Ballast Key (nine miles from Key West), and the Pier House Resort.

Both idyllic locations were the scene of many glamorous gatherings hosted by David and Tennessee, including parties for Hollywood luminaries, heads of state, and society’s crème-de-la-crème.

If these paintings could talk, oh the stories they’d tell . . .

Subject matter includes the writer’s famous cohorts during the 1970s in Key West (including a portrait of a very young Michael York), and personifications from Williams’ own poetry, short stories, and characters from his plays.

Billie Holiday songs played in the background while Williams captured different images on his canvas.

Some of the paintings by Williams feature gay themes. An “open secret” throughout his fabled career, the playwright struggled with societal prejudices from a young age, and the taboos surrounding homosexuality during his lifetime manifested in a number of Williams’ paintings.

His artwork remains widely popular among collectors, most of these sought-after paintings from the last years of his life are in private hands and rarely seen.

These precious gems are the pride of the Key West Art & Historical Society, and the Miami Beach exhibition (on view through October 7 at the Jewish Museum of Florida-FIU) is an uncommon opportunity to see in person how Williams expressed through painting his feelings about sexuality, loneliness and being gay.

Most of these sought-after paintings from the last years of his life are in private hands and rarely seen.

David Wolkowsky, who still lives in Key West and is almost 100, is from one of the earliest Jewish Families of Florida, and their history is documented as part of the Jewish Museum of Florida’s permanent collection about the history of Jews in the State of Florida. Wolkowsky is revered as a Key West original with a “campy sense of style, whose name every local knows.”

Williams was often found at Wolkowsky’s private, celeb-drenched affairs. Guests included the likes of Truman Capote, British Prime Minister Edward Heath, and members of the Rockefeller, Vanderbilt and Mellon families. According to Key West lore, Wolkowsky was notorious for serving plain hot dogs, white wine and potato chips to his famous guests, while Tennessee painted and drank red wine.

“The story behind these paintings, and the close friendship between Wolkowsky and Williams, is just one example of the many unexpected treasures in the rich history of Jewish culture in the State of Florida, spanning four centuries,” said Susan Gladstone, the Executive Director of the Jewish Museum of Florida-FIU.

“The fact that Williams painted, much less that he painted in Key West, is a surprise to many and his paintings have mostly remained outside of the public eye. We are honored to have these works here at the Jewish Museum of Florida-FIU, and to be one of the few museums that David Wolkowsky has selected to exhibit these works outside of their Key West home,” adds Gladstone.

More about Tennessee Williams:

Tennessee Williams’ plays during the 1940s and 1950s were innovative, confrontational, and presented audiences with controversial subject matter such as deep, dark family secrets, Southern Gothic themes, and other taboos that had never been seen on the stage before.

His Southern dramas, The Glass Menagerie, A Street Car Named Desire and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof were blockbusters that were adapted into iconic films.

Williams single-handedly introduced Marlon Brando to the American theater, and some of his other leading stars included Vivien Leigh, Elizabeth Taylor, Paul Newman, Tallulah Bankhead and Bette Davis.

For more than 30 years, Williams lived part-time and wrote in a small cottage on Duncan Street in Key West, and took up oil painting in the 1960s. On his patio, he would sketch friends, acquaintances, various literary characters and authors. Guests would often visit his home on Duncan street and purchase his recently created paintings.

By the beginning of the 1960s, American theater shifted, and Williams’ new plays were not as popular. In 1963, his lifetime partner Frank Merlo died of lung cancer in Key West. The years following Merlo’s death were difficult for Williams although he continued to write until his own death in 1983. His literary career includes plays, short stories and novels. As a writer, Williams was persistent and tireless. His later plays strove towards innovation and bold experimentation and continue to be revived and performed today.

Like most writers, William’s life was fraught with hardships and struggles.

Upon viewing these paintings, it is clear that painting provided solace and refuge for one of America’s most celebrated playwrights.

In this exhibition, Williams pays homage to his own literary works (including his first novel, The Roman Spring of Mrs. Stone), writers he admired (Jean Genet, Arthur Rimbaud and Wallace Stevens), and a portrait of a very young Michael York, who starred in the 1973 production of Williams’ Out Cry. Of significance is the fact these works were created during the 1970s, a progressive era for artists, activists, and forward thinking, with the notion of liberation being key.

These rare paintings now on view in Miami Beach at the Jewish Museum of Florida-FIU through October 7 capture the essence of a strong and independent artist living in a particular time and place.

Tailor-made for Porsche motors

Tailor-made for Porsche motors

New oil by LIQUI MOLY: Synthoil Energy A40 0W-40

More motor power means more strain on the motor oil. The wrong oil not only leads to performance losses, but can seriously damage the motor. That’s why the German motor oil and additive specialist LIQUI MOLY has developed a new oil specially for Porsche: Synthoil Energy A40 SAE 0W-40.

The A40 in the name indicates it: The oil is officially approved by Porsche for all vehicles that require an oil with the Porsche A40 standard – which is effectively every Porsche with a gasoline motor. It is a completely newly developed fully synthetic motor oil. The viscosity area 0W-40 is greater than in many conventional oils for cars. This offers greater performance reserves if the motor is under heavy strain. Geographical proximity helped in the cooperation with Porsche: LIQUI MOLY is located just one hour’s drive from the Porsche headquarters.

“This new oil is uncompromisingly designed for sports cars,” says Sebastian Zelger, Director of LIQUI MOLY USA. “With this oil we did not take normal cars into account at all, but developed a lubricant that is tailor-made for Porsche motors.”

About LIQUI MOLY
With around 4,000 items, LIQUI MOLY offers a global, uniquely broad range of automotive chemicals: Motor oils and additives, greases and pastes, sprays and car care, glues and sealants. Founded in 1957, LIQUI MOLY develops and produces exclusively in Germany. There it is the undisputed market leader for additives and is repeatedly voted the best oil brand. The company led by Ernst Prost sells its products in more than 120 countries and generated 489m euros in sales in 2016.
