Polestar Raises $550 Million from New Investors; Further Fundraising Considered
Polestar, the Swedish electric performance car company, has raised $550 million (USD) from a group of long-term financial investors.
The private placement of newly issued shares marks the first-time external investors have backed Polestar’s products, brand, industrial capability, financial ambitions and high growth potential.
The new investments come as the global market for electric cars is growing strongly, with consumers increasingly prepared to combine e-mobility with their environmental aspirations. Simultaneously, the technology behind electric cars is advancing and becoming more economical, making mass consumer adoption of electric vehicles an imminent reality.
These factors led to Polestar attracting considerable interest from a range of external investors as part of its fundraising activities. Polestar also confirms it is in ongoing discussions with global investors about possible additional fundraising. Full financial details of the transaction are not being disclosed at this stage.
The group of investors is led by Chongqing Chengxing Equity Investment Fund Partnership, Zibo Financial Holding and Zibo Hightech Industrial Investment. They have been joined by I Cube Capital, an arm of SK Inc., the South Korean global conglomerate, and a range of other investors.
The new investment sets the stage for future growth by diversifying Polestar’s funding structure. It deepens the pool of resources available to accelerate product development and technological capabilities ahead of launching several ground-breaking cars in the coming years.
Since the brand’s launch in October 2017, Polestar has developed its own high-quality manufacturing facility in China, built a global sales and distribution operation, and successfully launched two vehicles – Polestar 1 and Polestar 2 to extremely positive customer feedback and media reviews.
“Our new investors have recognized that Polestar offers an alluring combination of established industrial and technological capability alongside superlative growth potential as the global auto industry goes electric,” said Thomas Ingenlath, CEO of Polestar.
Huawei tops share of active 5G-ready devices globally with Samsung, Apple lagging behind
Data analyzed by Finbold indicates that Chinese firm Huawei is leading in active 5G-ready devices with a share of 26.9% globally during Q4 2020. Samsung ranks second with a share of 25.1%, while Apple accounts for 19.5%. Vivo, another Chinese firm, controls a share of 11.8%, with Honor accounting for 6.9% of the active 5G-ready devices. The Finbold analysis also compared the share of 5G-ready devices between Samsung and Huawei from August 2020 to December 2020. The findings show that Samsung dominated the share for the four months before December.
In August, Samsung’s share was 45.2% against Huawei’s 10.2%. As of September, the South Korean manufacturer share increased to 48.1%, with Huawei accounting for 10.1%. The dominance continued in October, with Samsung taking a share of 48.6% while Huawei accounted for 9.5%. In November, both players saw their active 5G-ready devices share drop as Samsung accounted for 44.9% against Huawei’s 8.6%. As of December, Huawei flipped the status to rank top at 27%, with Samsung accounting for 25.1%.
Huawei leverages on pandemic to emerge top
The report explains circumstances that potentially contributed to Huawei emerging as a dominant force in active 5G-ready devices. According to the research report: “Like other industries, most of the manufacturers were impacted with Covid-19 disruption that affected global supply. However, Huawei appears to have sustained the downturn after China controlled the pandemic early, unlike competitors in the west which entered the pandemic’s second wave towards Q4.”
The growth of Huawei might soon be challenged since competitors are increasingly launching new 5G devices. For instance, Apple, with just one active 5G-ready device, ranked third.
Amethysts have been used by humans for millennia as decorative adornments, and this particular example of quartz is widely appreciated for its eye-catching violet hue and its alluring shimmer.
If you are keen to find out more about amethysts, read on for an introduction to everything you could ever want to know about this type of semi precious stone, from its etymology and history to its symbolism and meaning in modern culture.
Creation, location & value
Amethysts are found in several places around the world, sourced from the geodes that are left behind after volcanic activity has occurred.
The largest producer is Brazil, but there are also amethysts mined in places like Madagascar, South Korea, Russia and Canada, to name but a few.
The popularity of amethyst rings for women means that there is always plenty of demand for this gem, and it is the richness of the color which plays the biggest role in determining the value of individual stones. The deep purples of the amethysts mined in Siberia make them amongst the most sought-after and expensive, while also meaning that the carat count is not as relevant to cost as it is with other gems.
Jewelry set with amethysts can still be costly, although this typically comes down to the inclusion of other precious gems and rare metals, rather than the amethyst itself.
History & name explanation
While there is no specific evidence of humanity having interacted with amethysts in the unknowable mists of prehistory, it is safe to assume that any of our ancestors that found it would have been just as enamored with the glittering, shimmering color of these stones.
Thankfully the Ancient Egyptians are well-documented users of amethysts, and would go a step further than 21st century designers by choosing to use them as a medium for engraving. Etching images and symbols into the stones took expert craft skills and is a testament to how advanced this civilization was.
The name itself is actually derived from the language spoken in Ancient Greece, with the literal translation being ‘not drunk’. This entertaining etymology came about because Greeks believed that by wearing an amethyst around their neck, they would be able to stave off the effects of imbibing too much alcohol. Clearly preventing inebriation is not something that amethysts can actually do, but it is intriguing to see what attributes the ancient peoples of the Mediterranean ascribed to these stones.
From these earlier uses, amethysts would continue to spread globally over the course of many centuries, appearing in Britain during the middle ages and even being adopted in the Anglican branch of Christianity specifically because of their alleged anti-intoxication capabilities.
Interpretations & birthstone status
It is not just drunkenness which is legendarily avoided by wearing amethysts; throughout history a number of different capabilities have been associated with these stones.
One claim is that they can be used to ensure that the wearer maintains a level head, even when the circumstances around them might give them cause to go a little haywire.
Others believe that amethyst is packed with healing powers, allowing it to do everything from reducing anxiety and annoyance to pulling people out of pits of despair and grief. It could even improve your memory and make you more ambitious and motivated, if you buy into the more outlandish claims.
Irrespective of your position on the actual abilities amethyst brings to the table, there is no doubting that it is widely known as the birthstone for the month of February. While you do not need to have been born in this window to wear amethyst jewelry, if you are a February baby then it could be the push you need to pick between several precious stones when buying your next piece.
Jewelry uses & synthetic production
We have touched upon the various ways in which amethysts have been harnessed throughout history to enhance and augment jewelry of many types, and it is worth looking at the sheer variety that is on offer today to show how far the industry has come.
It is not common for amethysts to be used in engagement and wedding rings, as well as in everything from necklaces and earrings to bracelets and beyond.
While amethyst is semiprecious in nature, it works well when used alongside diamonds, since the brilliance of the latter’s crisp white reflectivity is a great counterpoint to the deep purples of the former.
Another point to mention is that lab-grown amethysts are a possibility, and are essentially indistinguishable to their naturally-occurring counterparts, without the use of equipment and techniques that are prohibitively expensive for general use. This is less of a problem than in the context of lab-grown diamond detection, for example, since amethysts are not at rare and can be mined with relative ease, as discussed above. Even so, it is worth being aware of this before you buy amethyst jewelry, so that you know exactly what you are getting ahead of committing to an order.
The quartz family of which amethyst is arguably the most famous member is fairly large, and color is the distinguishing factor between the varieties.
If violet is not for you, then yellows of citrine could tick the right boxes instead. The pinky hues of rose quartz is another popular option, while the gothic styling of smoky quartz is an intriguing alternative to the more radiant siblings on show.
Ultimately you need to consider all of your options and use your own aesthetic eye and tastes to determine whether amethyst is the right stone for you. There are also other things to keep in mind, such as the kind of cut that the stone should come in, and the metal in which it should be set to deliver the best results.
There is no wrong choice here, but rather a wonderful world of gemstones to discover, each with its own history, meaning and cultural importance which could sway you if it clicks with your personality.

The fastback option, executed in a manner of seconds and with the press of a button, makes it the perfect vehicle to be adaptable to all seasons. 360 Magazine had the opportunity to take this car for a luxurious test ride to Terranea Resort in California, cruising in opulence along coastal bluffs and natural beauty. For a picturesque beach day, with the top down, our own Vaughn Lowery and Anthony Sovinsky were able to fully embrace both the precision and fun of the LC 500. With the sun shining, roof down, and the open California road, it proved an unforgettable experience.
Traditional to the quality expected of the timeless Japanese brand, the interior of the vehicle reflects clean craftsmanship all around. With the retractable hardtop, the car is still sleek and elegant. With the notchback down, it becomes even more sporty and chic, perfect for driving on a day with nice weather.
The interior is rendered for an all-around lavish adventure featuring a drape-like surface design and ambient illumination on the door panels. The enduring style of an all-black leather-trimmed interior feels straight out of movie, perhaps similar to the high-tech world of Black Panther, as this vehicle was featured in the film. With the Touring Package, the LC 500 is upgraded beyond imagination including a heated, leather-trimmed steering wheel and embossed headrests.
The Lexus LC 500 Convertible is infused with all the latest technology, promising nothing less than an utterly advanced ride. A navigation system paired with a 10.3-inch-high resolution split screen ensures you will always get where you need to go, especially paired with the new dynamic navigation system which is complimentary for up to three years. The 8-inch LCD TFT multi-information display compounds the user experience for a state-of-the-art drive. The steering wheel offers integrated cruise control buttons and magnesium paddle shifters, the drive mode select knob is located near the multi-information display, and two USB ports as well as a 12V socket offer convenience. Siri Eyes Free and a SmartAccess keyless entry with a push button start pledge a simplified but elevated driving encounter. Surround Mark Levinson 13-speaker, 915-watt Reference Surround Sound Audio System encourages to turn up your music and drive along to the soundtrack of your own life.
The star attraction to the LC 500 Convertible is in the name, as this ride is a top of the line droptop. It is sure to turn heads and its curb appeal is unparalleled. In just fifteen seconds, the drophead can collapse, even while the vehicle is in motion (up to 31 mph). It proved to be one of the most enjoyable cloth drop tops besides the Jaguar F-Type R.
“Sports Plus mode allows you to feel how precise and well quipped the model is,” said President of 360 Magazine, Vaughn Lowery. Said testimonial is in tune with the model’s design and execution of an all-star vehicle.
The engine is a 5.0-liter V8 with aluminum blocks and cylinder heads, DOHC, 32-valve, Dual VVT-i while the transmission features the aforementioned 10-speed sport direct shift automatic with paddle shift and manual mode. The customizable aspects certify adaptation to any driver and any terrain assures performance in any scenario. The fuel economy is estimated at 15/25/18 EPA making it a more effective version than in previous years. She also features 15 city/ 25 highway miles per gallon. Beyond this, the Lexus LC 500 features a horsepower of 471 hp and 398 lb-ft torque. Both work to assure whoever is in the driver’s seat feels the full speed, power, and control of the LC 500.
The LC 500 comes with all the safety one would expect of a Lexus vehicle. For instance, the vehicle is equipped with the Lexus Safety System + as a standard feature. Furthermore, the LC 500 is well-equipped with air bags in various spots within the vehicle, ensuring the most secure journey possible. It is equipped for almost all terrains and conditions, ensuring wherever you are on the globe, the LC 500 can be a fit for you.
Driving, especially in areas like Los Angeles dense with traffic, can come with complications. The LC 500 works to ensure that accidents are a thing of the past. With features like pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, cruise control, lane keep assist, and standard blind spot monitors, it works to keep both you and pedestrians safe as possible. Style doesn’t sacrifice safety, and the LC 500 provides the opportune combination of prudence and sophistication.
The combination of all the aspects of the Lexus LC 500 provides an overall driving experience that is one to remember. The comfort and effectiveness of the driver is always in mind. An adjustable steering wheel customizes the car’s drive to each individual consumer. Features that are standards of lavish driving are of course included, including temperature-controlled seating and reclination abilities. Even those living the high-life may be besieged by allergy season, but the LC 500 features a deodorizing and dust/pollen-removing interior air filter to certify you’re breathing clean.
At first glance, it appears that the backseats of the LC 500 are nonexistent, but for a beach day they worked perfectly. Their companions, around a height of 5’4, were able to fit comfortably for the ride. There is also the common misconception that trunk space in typical ragtop sports cars is abysmal, but the LC 500 proves otherwise. Lowery, Sovinksy, alongside of their counterparts were able to fit all the essentials for a beach day, top down: a beach umbrella, tent, towels, and three backpacks loaded with snacks. Storage, in the case of the LC 500, is not a sacrifice.
Few automobiles have the opportunity to truly make an impact beyond the auto-world, but the LC 500 will be one remembered beyond 2020. Iconic actor Chadwick Boseman, who died earlier this year after a several yearlong battle with colon cancer, drove this particularly convertible. In his revolutionary film Black Panther, where Boseman starred as the titular character T’Challa, a version of the LC 500 was tricked out for the movie’s most exhilarating chase sequence, filmed in South Korea. Boseman’s incredible charisma, the scenery of South Korea, and the excellence of this blue version of the vehicle all came together for a sublime cinematic experience.
Though he is best known for his work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Boseman was an accomplished actor in a variety of genres. Not only did he play the first black superhero on the super-stage that is the world of Marvel films, but he has played historical black icons such as Jackie Robinson, James Brown, and Thurgood Marshall. He is indeed a role model for all. His final film, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, has received major buzz and will be released posthumously. Boseman is survived by his family including his wife, Taylor Simone Ledward. Chadwick Boseman and his terrific accomplishments demonstrate that the LC 500 is a car fit for a genuine hero.
In sum, the Lexus LC 500 Convertible is the perfect choice for those who are driven and enjoy driving; one who appreciates the finer things in life, an impeccable performance, and a classic style need look no further for their next car purchase. Perfect for any season, and at an estimated price of $112,000 this vehicle makes for a year-round luxurious experience. Its technology affirms it to be one of the best vehicles of its kind. Be bold and make a statement with the Lexus LC 500 Convertible.
In a surprising turn of events, Japan’s current era of politics has come to an end following the sudden resignation of Shinzo Abe, the country’s longest serving prime minister. Abe attributes his step-down due to serious health issues related to colitis, a chronic intestinal disease
His departure leaves the highest-ranking political position in the third-largest economy in the world with an open seat. The scramble for who will replace Shinzo Abe has begun, and its importance cannot be understated.
The next prime minister of Japan inherits a host of serious issues including coronavirus relief response, a decreasing economy, an aging population, an increasingly aggressive China, the confusion of the Olympics, female rights, the complexities of potentially reintroducing militarization, a changing United States dynamic, and more. “It makes me wonder why anybody would want to be prime minister,” said Jeffrey Hornung, an analyst at the RAND Corporation.
In considering relations with the United States, Mr. Abe aspired towards a more independent Japan. His term can be considered a success in some regards, but whether that is attributed to Mr. Abe or to a United States shrinking from international engagement under President Trump is up for debate. Either way, Japan in recent years has worked to assert itself in Eastern politics, especially in comparison to potential rivals in South Kora and especially China. These efforts will become increasingly important as Japan navigates the highest public debt amongst advanced industrial economies at a staggering 251.91%
Despite all these issues, there is a host of men clamoring for the job. They include Fumio Kishida, a former foreign minister; Toshimitsu Motegi, the current foreign minister; Taro Kono, the current defense minister; Shigeru Ishiba and Tomomi Inada, both former defense ministers; and Seiko Noda, a member of the lower house of Parliament. Ms. Inada and Ms. Noda, both women, are the only female candidates attempting to throw their hat into the ring. However, Japanese politics remains male dominated and the likelihood of a female prime minister remains slim. Odds are in favor of Abe’s top aide, Yoshihide Suga replacing him.
Shinzo Abe’s successor will be voted on September 14th with a Liberal Democratic Party election, with the Diet (Japan’s national parliament) formally electing the winner two days later. The winner will the serve the rest of Abe’s term until September 2021 and after may choose to run for prime minister for their own term.

The release of “Losing You” is Wonho’s first step forward in his solo career after signing with Highline Entertainment, which is a subsidiary label of Starship Entertainment—the home to K-pop groups including Monsta X, WJSN and Cravity—and houses viral EDM star DJ Soda [Read HERE on Forbes]. Back in early April, Wonho also joined Maverick Management’s roster, alongside Britney Spears, Madonna, The Weeknd, and many more big-name artists.
