Celebrated British dance duo Gorgon City have released their new track “Dreams” via Astralwerks today. Listen here. The new offering follows latest single “Never Let Me Down” featuring Hayley May, and will feature on their eagerly anticipated third album Olympia which is out this Friday, June 25th.

Offering up ethereal tones and Gorgon City’s trademark arpeggiated bassline, “Dreams” is elevated by its accompanying video, that journeys through an idyllic, paradise island scattered with imposing, Greek statues. Watch the video here.

An album shrouded in Greek mythology, OlympiaGorgon City’s third album, is as grand in scale and ambition as its title suggests. What began in 2019 as a compact, 10-track project has grown into an 18-track opus covering multiple moods and movements. NEEDTOBREATHE – SUNSHINE – INTO THE MYSTERY

GRAMMY® Award-nominated rock band NEEDTOBREATHE have released “Sunshine” the fourth track off their forthcoming studio album Into The Mystery. The song is available to stream and download starting today hereInto The Mystery is due for release on July 30 via Elektra Records and is available for pre-order now here. Last week NEEDTOBREATHE delivered the television debut performance of Into The Mystery’s current single “I Wanna Remember” alongside seven-time GRAMMY® Award winner Carrie Underwood at the 2021 “CMT Music Awards.” Watch their unforgettable performance here. Into The Mystery was announced last month alongside the release of the album’s lead single and title track. The album will also feature collaborations with Jon Foreman of Switchfoot and Natalie Hemby of The Highwomen.

This Fall, NEEDTOBREATHE will embark on their massive Into The Mystery Tour with support from Switchfoot and The New Respects. The 38-city trek will visit iconic venues such as Denver, CO’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre (fifth consecutive sold out appearance) and Los Angeles, CA’s Greek Theatre, and see the band perform their first-ever headline show at Nashville, TN’s Bridgestone Arena. Just as their critically acclaimed 2020 album Out of Body impacted audiences, NEEDTOBREATHE capitalized on a rush of inspiration and rode the wave of creativity. Without telling a soul, the band decamped to a historic house-turned-recording studio in Columbia, TN to begin working on new music. Over the course of three weeks, they resided under one roof, laughed during meals, explored their surroundings, and recorded together with co-producer and engineer Konrad Snyder and special guests. Out of this de facto creative hub and “extended summer camp,” they handcrafted an album reflective of the moment, yet independent of all expectations, even their own. The past 12 months represent one of the most prolific periods in the band’s career thus far. They recently unveiled Live from the Woods Vol. 2, a live album recorded during three sold out, socially distanced outdoor concerts at Pelham, TN’s famed The Caverns. NIKE vs MSCHF

Nike has filed a federal trademark infringement lawsuit against MSCHF shoes that released a controversial customized version of its sneakers “Satan Shoes” with rapper Lil Nas X. In the lawsuit filed today, Nike accused MSCHF Product Studio, Inc. of trademark infringement over the designer’s 666 pairs of modified Nike sneakers made in collaboration with the “Old Town Road” singer. All 666 pairs sold out Monday.

Fara Sunderji is a partner at the international law firm Dorsey & Whitney in its New York office. Sunderji has extensive expertise in all stages of trademark, copyright, clearance, prosecution, maintenance, enforcement, and litigation. Of the lawsuit she says, 

“Nike’s swoosh is probably one of the most recognizable non-word trademarks in the world.  You see it and you automatically think of Nike as the source of the good on which it appears.  This is how trademarks are supposed to operate, as a source identified.  Nike’s case here is pretty simple to understand:  MSCHF is selling Nike Air Max 97’s that have been modified in a way in which Nike does not approve.  People see these “Satan Shoes” and think they come from Nike and some people don’t like that.  Nike, therefore, claims that the release of these “Santa Shoes” is harming its valuable brand,” Sunderji says. 

“MSCHF will likely argue that they are protected under a theory called the First Sale Doctrine, which allows third parties to resell trademarked goods that have already entered the marketplace.  But the doctrine is limited to the sale of genuine goods.  The doctrine is based on the premise that consumers are not being deceived because they are receiving what they have bargained for, the trademarked good. Under Second Circuit case law, goods are not genuine if they do not conform to the brand owner’s quality control standards, and it is easy to guess Nike’s take on this issue – Just don’t do it,” Sunderji says. 

According to NBC News, the lawsuit states “We don’t have any further details to share on pending legal matters,” Nike said. “However, we can tell you we do not have a relationship with Lil Nas X or MSCHF.”

Trademark attorney Josh Gerben of Gerben Perrott PLLC stated to CNN Business that “It’s a legal rationale that grants artists who purchase and repurpose individual copyrighted products the ability to express and profit off their own creativity.”. He also pointed out Nike shoe redesigners like MSCHF commonly sell their work on online marketplaces. “You’ve got all kinds of artists that go out there and they take a shoe, and they’ll do a whole bunch of custom art on the shoe and maybe resell it for $1,000-3,000,” Gerben said. “This is something Nike is well aware of and has done absolutely nothing to mess with because there’s a sneaker culture here.”

Lil Nas X isn’t named as a party in the lawsuit. Representatives for the musician did not respond to calls or emails requesting comment.

The backlash from social media is incredible with thousands of people expressing their opinions with the shoes and the representation they bring:

  •  South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem tweeted “Our kids are being told that this kind of product, is not only okay, it’s “exclusive.” But do you know what’s more exclusive? Their God-given eternal soul. We are in a fight for the soul of our nation. We need to fight hard. And we need to fight smart. We have to win.”.
  • NBA star Nick Young tweeted “My kids will never play Old Town Road again… I’m still debating about wearing Nike after this come Nike a drop of blood for real”.
  • On Instagram, celebrity musician Miley Cyrus shares a photo proudly wearing the controversial sneakers, captioning the post “Can you see Satan?”.

The controversial ‘Satan Shoes’ were strategically dropped after the release of Lil Nas X’s music video for “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)”, which has already been viewed more than 54 million times.

Lil Nas X took to Twitter in his true fashion posting “I spent my entire teenage years hating myself because of the shit y’all preached would happen to me because I was gay. So I hope u are mad, stay mad, feel the same anger you teach us to have towards ourselves.”

Earlier this week, the band took home the 2019 MTV Video Music Award for “Best Pop” for “Sucker,” as well as put on an epic hometown performance of “Sucker” and “Only Human” at the historic Stone Pony stage at the Jersey Shore.

Meanwhile, “Sucker” and “Burning Up” also achieved a 2X platinum certification from the RIAA, continuing the band’s monumental success. Happiness Begins became the third #1 album of the Jonas Brother’s career and first release since 2009. This #1 bow represented a landmark moment for the group and pop at large as they retain the place at the top of the charts they claimed a decade ago. A global success, the album also landed at #1 in Canada, with additional career high debuts in countries including UK, Australia, Germany and the Netherlands and more. These achievements solidified Jonas Brothers’ return as the biggest pop moment of 2019.

Western River Expeditions

One river rafting company anticipates one of its best years in its history is just around the bend, thanks to the unprecedented strength of its early season bookings.
 
Western River Expeditions reports that its 3, 4, 6 and 7-day Grand Canyon trips for 2020 are full on many dates. And 2019 is already completely sold out. Western River is taking a wait list for spots that open up due to cancellations.
 
Opening day to place 2020 reservations was Nov. 15, 2018. “We booked over 1,000 seats on that day alone,” says Brandon Lake, CMO of Western River Expeditions.  “Online bookings are way up, with over 70 percent of some trips being booking online. Compared to the 40 percent average norm, this is a huge increase!”
 
He adds that, “other rivers are also seeing booming interest and bookings.” Bookings for 2019 five-day trips on Desolation Canyon, Green River are up three-fold over 2018. ”We have as many bookings for Desolation Canyon now as we usually end the year with.”
 
Other rivers favored in this booking uptick, comparing same time 2018 and 2019 include 

Lake attributes these record sales in part to:

  • Good overall US economy (to this point),
  • Swell of retiring Baby Boomers,
  • Popularity of the bucket list and desire to experience lifelong dreams like running the Grand Canyon and Cataract Canyon, 
  • Increasing interest in National Parks, particularly Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park which many guests visit while in Moab, Utah, before their trip to Desolation Canyon or Cataract Canyon.
  • Many new, excellent accommodation choices and availability for pre- and post-trip stays on adventures that depart from Moab, Utah (Cataract Canyon and Desolation Canyon). 

For those chomping at the bit to get on a raft in 2019, Western River advises that people call soon to reserve their space. “There are still some spots on some of our most popular expeditions and this is going to be an incredible year to experience the river.”
 
Lake explains that Western River is bound by the permits granted to them. These permits limit the number of guests that can travel with them each year. “This number doesn’t change, but guest demand for what is essentially a limited opportunity does.”
 
Utah’s Cataract Canyon, deep within Canyonlands National Park, is near enough in scale, appearance and proximity to the Grand Canyon that it works the same kind of magic found in the Grand herself. Just one canyon upstream on the Colorado River in Utah’s Canyonlands National Park is hands down the best alternative to a Grand Canyon rafting vacation,” he says.
 
Farther north from the confluence, Utah’s Desolation Canyon was carved by the 730-mile Green River, born from glacial melts on the Continental Divide in the Wyoming Rockies. The Green has created such rare and unique universe that Desolation Canyon has been named to the National Register of Historic Places. The Green’s whitewater promises soft adventure thrills over 60 fun-filled Class II and III rapids.
 

Calling Desolation Canyon “the ultimate, back-country family river trip,” Jason Taylor, an operations manager who oversees all of Western River Expeditions’ trips in Utah, noted that the five-day program is appropriate for children as young as 5. It’s also a great river trip for extended families and first-time rafters.

Alison Wonderland Kicks Off Headline Tour

Tonight, Alison Wonderland will launch her summer U.S. headline tour with a sold-out show at the Ogden Theatre in Denver, CO. A second Denver show has been added on August 4. Manchester band elbow just wrapped a successful and SOLD-OUT run across North America this month, which included a late night television performance on NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where they performed current single “Magnificent (she says)” [WATCH HERE], and “One Day Like This” [WATCH HERE], plus A day-time television performance and interview with esteemed host Anthony Mason on CBS’ This Morning: Saturday.  Watch their performance of “Magnificent (she Says)” HERE, “Grounds For Divorce” HERE and “All Disco” HERE. The band also played awe-inspiring live sessions for WNYC’s Soundcheck [LISTEN HERE] and KCRW’s Morning Becomes Eclectic [WATCH HERE].
 
On Friday, November 24 the band also released their latest full-length album “The Best Of” via 
Republic Records in North America. A collection of their best moments to date, the album covers two CDs (in its deluxe form) and features tracks from the band’s seven studio albums, highlighting their incredible musical output over the last eighteen years. From the release of their “Newborn” EP in 1999, the collection stretches all the way to 2017, with the bonus track of the band’s version of The Beatles “Golden Slumbers,” as heard on the current John Lewis Christmas commercial directed by Michel Gondry [WATCH HERE].
 
“Best Of’s are a good way of introducing new fans to a big back catalogue.” Explains front man and lyricist Guy Garvey on the band’s reasoning behind this release. “My first Leonard Cohen album was ‘The Best Of’, same with Fleetwood Mac and Nick Drake. It took ages for us to decide what should go on ours but we got there in the end. We are really proud of this. It’s full of memories.”
 
The Best Of” comes in two versions. The standard version features global hits “One Day Like This” and “Grounds For Divorce,” alongside their current US single “Magnificent (She Says),” taken from the band’s current studio album and UK Number One, “Little Fictions.” Earlier work is represented by live favorites “Mirrorball,” “Scattered Black and Whites,” “Leaders Of The Free World” and “Lippy Kids,” “a gorgeous meditation on adolescence” (The Guardian) and a stand out moment in all elbow live shows.

The second version is the deluxe release, which goes further into the band’s history and album releases, again spanning their entire career to date. The song that first brought the band to mass public attention, “Newborn,” is included along with its follow up and fellow NME Single Of The Week, “Any Day Now” and “The Loneliness of a Tower Crane Driver’” the song the band performed live on the night that they won the 2008 Mercury Music Prize for “The Seldom Seen Kid.” This version also contains the band’s most recent original recording, “Kindling (Fickle Flame)” featuring John Grant.

The album highlights an incredible ongoing career which has encompassed two Ivor Novello awards, the quadruple platinum album “The Seldom Seen Kid” and two UK Number One albums; 2014’s “The Take Off and Landing of Everything” and this year’s “Little Fictions.” In that time, the band have won 2008’s Mercury Music Prize (for “The Seldom Seen Kid”), the 2009 BRITS ‘Best British Group’ and a host of NME, Q and Mojo Awards.
 
elbow have been lauded for one of the landmark Pyramid Stage performances at Glastonbury Festival, collaborated with the BBC Concert Orchestra and Manchester’s Hallé Orchestra. In 2012 they were commissioned to write ‘First Steps’ which sound-tracked the BBC’S London Olympics TV coverage with the band also performing at the closing ceremony in the Olympic Stadium to a global television audience of 750 million people.  This year’s secret appearance at Glastonbury’s Park Stage drew a record crowd on site and was the most watched set from the festival on BBC.
 
Always a band that has attracted deserved critical praise for their recordings, (elbow were the first act in history to receive four consecutive 9/10 album reviews from NME), this best of album is the perfect introduction to the amazing musical legacy to date of one of the country’s most beloved and most successful acts, demonstrating that most rare thing in modern music; a band whose story and influence continues to grow with every release.

“The Best Of” is available in the U.S as a standard and deluxe digital download from 24th November.

In his latest venture into fashion, NBA MVP Basketball Russell Westbrooklaunched his new clothing line “Honor The Gift” this weekend with a surprise pop up at local OKC auto shop, Penn Automotive. A planned two-day event, the first public offering of the collection sold out on site within the first 24 hours. The vintage clothing line indiscreetly pays homage to Russell’s LA Youth featuring a small capsule of streetwear including sweatshirts, sweatpants and athleisure, with design inspo dating back to the late 20th century and Russell’s birth year 1988.

“I’m thankful for my humble beginnings in OKC,” Russell shared on Instagram last week. “I’m thankful for the man above for allowing me to achieve amazing things in my life. All of which has led me to create my own brand, Honor the Gift.”
