Big Boss Vette “Problem”

St. Louis’s hottest new voice Big Boss Vette unleashes a new single and music video entitled “Problem” available today via Beatstaz/Amigo Records/Republic Records. It just premiered on Apple Music’s New Music Daily! Listen to “Problem”HERE. Watch the music video for “Problem”HERE.

As the track’s thick bass thuds and percussive stomp snaps, she tears through the soundscape with a fearless attitude and slick rhymes. Her tightly wound wordplay unspools with an undeniable chant, “Bitch, I’m a problem, as she warns, “Get the fuck up out my face with all that soft shit!”  In the accompanying visual, she turns up in the studio. She raps to the camera as frenetic cuts move in sync with the song’s raw rhythm.

It arrives on the heels of her hard-hitting “Pretty Girls Walk (Remix)” [feat. Coi Leray]. HotNewHipHop proclaimed, “it’s a creative and head-bobbing fusion of more modern percussion styles with a classic bassline that harkens back to the old days.” Following her own set, Big Boss Vette and Coi Leray brought their undeniable energy to the stage as they performed the song together at Rolling Loud California. She only continues to make waves. She recently guested on Apple Music’s The Plug Radio in addition to showing out “Bar for Bar” with VH1 in honor of Women’s History Month. Plus, she catapulted to #45 on the Billboard Emerging Artists chart.

“Pretty Girls Walk” has emerged as a phenomenon. The contagious track exploded on Instagram Reels with north of 220K Reel “creates,” including videos from icons such as Reba McEntire, Madonna, Kate Beckinsale, Jennifer Lopez, Paris Hilton and Nicole Scherzinger. On TikTok, the song has inspired over 650K “creates,” eclipsing 2 billion views. Thus far, “Pretty Girls Walk” has gained over 14.4 million Spotify streams and 2.5 million YouTube views on the music video, which released last October. The “Pretty Girls Walk” video remains in steady rotation on mtvU, CMC, and more. At Rhythm Radio, it popped off as the greatest gainer.

Big Boss Vette recently hit the road for Nick Cannon’s “Future Superstar Tour.” Alongside Symba, Hitman Holla, and more, she will perform across 24 cities in the U.S. and Canada. The tour will touch down in Vette’s hometown, St. Louis on March 25th. To celebrate, she’s hosting a “Cousins Meet & Greet” for her fans at VibeSzn from 7-9pm. After recently making her debut at Rolling Loud California, she also announced a new festival date for this June at Sundown Solstice Music Festival in Alaska and Lollapalooza Festival this August.

Top digital platforms have been paying homage to the rising star and making sure she will be a household name. YouTube named Big Boss Vette its latest Trending “Artist on the Rise” and Tik Tok included Big Boss Vette in their #WomenInHipHop campaign including a billboard alongside artists Latto, Coi Leray, Monaleo and Exmiranda in Toronto’s legendary Scotiabank Arena. Not to mention, “Pretty Girls Walk” notably appeared on South Park’s 26th season premiere, furthering the momentum on the single.

Last year, Big Boss Vette shined in the 2022 BET Hip Hop Awards Cypher and starred in the 2022 Hip-Hop Awards edition of BET’s Rate the Bars. In addition to “Pretty Girls Walk”, her bossed-up single “My Sista” soundtracked a key moment of Hulu’s The D’Amelio Show. Building her audience, Big Boss Vette has attracted north of 1 million followers on TikTok and has crossed 2 million monthly listeners on Spotify.

Big Boss Vette continues turning heads and kick-starting conversation with her relatable and refreshing talent, solidifying her place as one of the top rising stars of 2023.

Big Boss Vette exudes classic underdog hunger spiked with a fresh, fearless, and fiery approach to hip-hop. The St, Louis-born rapper toggles between airtight bars, slippery melodies, and irresistible hooks. She has documented this growth in real-time with one banger after another. After achieving viral buzz in high school, she popped off with a procession of anthems, including “Outside” and “Snatched.” In 2022, the latter set TikTok on fire, racking up 2 billion views across half-a-million creates by everyone from Kylie Jenner and Khloe Kardashian to Halle Bailey and JT of City Girls. Meanwhile, Flo Milli and Saucy Santana jumped on the Official Remix.

Expanding her presence, she turned up at the 2022 BET Hip Hop Awards Cypher and starred in the 2022 Hip-Hop Awards edition of BET’s Rate the Bars in addition to earning high-profile syncs on HULU’s The D’Amelio Show and HBO’s EMMY® Award-nominated Insecure from creator Issa Rae. Additionally, she launched her own popular online series, Big Boss Vette Show. Simultaneously, she progressed as a performer, headlining her Snatched Tour in sold out venues coast-to-coast and gracing the bills of 2023 festivals such as Rolling Loud. Most importantly, she leveled up as an artist, adopting different flows. After generating tens of millions of streams and earning widespread acclaim from Pitchfork, E!, UPROXX, XXL, and more, she shows out on a series of 2023 singles and her forthcoming full-length debut album for Beatstaz/Amigo Records/Republic Records.

UMe/Republic announced today, Nelly’s single “Dilemma” from Nellyville is now officially part of YouTube’s Billion Views Club. Watch the video, here.

“It is both humbling and what every artist hopes for, to see your work from 20 years ago still getting such love from fans old and new. Super dope that a song made before YouTube existed is getting so much support now and shout out to Nelly fans and to my girl Kelly Rowland who helped make this song a hit when we made it and still a hit today!” – Nelly

Reaching 1 billion views on YouTube, “Dilemma” is one of only a handful of Rap/Hip-Hop music videos from the Pre-YouTube era to achieve this milestone. Nelly joins a diverse and elite group of artists from this era to do the same, including 50 Cent, Nirvana, Queen, Guns N’ Roses, Whitney Houston, The Cranberries and a-ha.

The video for “Dilemma” was directed by and produced by GRAMMY® Award winning Ryan Bowser pka GHOST (Monica, 112, Tyrese, Bow Wow).

The second song released from the Nellyville album, “Dilemma” featuring Kelly Rowland was a No. 1 single across multiple Billboard charts (Hot 100, Hot R&B/Hip-Hop/Top 40/Rhythmic). Nelly’s “Hot in Herre” was No. 1 on the charts, until it was replaced by his own single “Dilemma.” The smash hit went on to win that year’s GRAMMY® Award for Best Rap/Sung Performance.

“Dilemma” secured its place in the hearts of Nelly fans over the last 20 years and has recently been boosted by social media popularity from both existing fans and a whole new fanbase lip-syncing to the iconic song.

Born Cornell Iral Haynes Jr. in Austin, Texas, and eventually settling in St. Louis, Nelly is credited as putting St. Louis hip hop music on the map. The rapper showed early promise, forming The St. Lunatics in 1993 with his childhood friends, MCs “Ali” Jones, Torhi “Murphy Lee” Harper, Lavell “City Spud” Webb, and Robert “Kyjuan” Cleveland. After huge local success and persistence with their unique sound of southern-style hip hop, Republic Records signed Nelly and the St. Lunatics.

MILES – MOSH PIT

SINGER-RAPPER MILES UNVEILS TIMELY NEW SINGLE MOSH PIT ALONGSIDE OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO

Elektra Records artist MILES has unveiled his timely new single MOSH PIT, available now on all DSPS and streaming services. The track arrives alongside an official music video available now on his official YouTube channel. With many people not having been to a show in over a year and craving live music, the well-timed track hears MILES “Fiendin’ for the show” while the official video, directed by Nicholas Jandora (24kGoldn, Lil Skies, Bankrol Hayden) and co-concepted by MILES himself, sees him jamming to a Rock Band-type video game and eventually getting transported into a mosh pit.

“MOSH PIT” follows the St. Louis-born/Los Angeles-based singer-rapper’s latest track “Desperados,” which marked his official debut for Elektra Records. Pulling inspiration from the 1995 Robert Rodriguez film Desperado, the official music video was shot in the Southern California desert and explores the life of a modern outlaw.

MILES’ story so far engenders such enthusiasm. The St. Louis native grew up singing and naturally gravitated towards music inspired by everyone from Lil Wayne and Chance the Rapper to Charlie Puth and Khalid in high school. Admitted to prestigious Dartmouth College on a football scholarship, he quietly uploaded music to Soundcloud and gradually made waves online. Leaving school, he wound up in Los Angeles and dropped a series of independent singles, culminating on the viral “WHAT IN TARNATION.” Nearly 3,000 Tik Tok videos utilized the track as he generated just shy of 7 million total streams

MILES brings hip-hop grit to pop with deft wordplay and dusty soundscapes. Named after Miles Davis, he possessed a predisposition for music fueled by listening to everything from dad’s jazz records, Kirk Franklin, and Bill Withers to Lauryn Hill, Wiz Khalifa, and Travis Scott. He honed his vocals through constantly singing before beginning to freestyle in high school. At the same time, he excelled on the football field, earning a scholarship to Dartmouth College as a defensive tackle. In between a grueling Ivy league schedule of practice and class, he still managed to maintain a prolific output of independent music online. Picking up steam, he left school, moved to L.A., and crashed at YouTuber Justin Escalona’s pad. On a weekly basis, he appeared in vlogs and released music at a rapid pace, logging millions of streams and quickly building a fanbase, including over 385K followers on TikTok alone in just 3 months. In 2020, he ignited the viral “WHAT IN TARNATION,” attracting 2,700 Tik Tok videos and drumming up 6.3 million streams. On the heels of its success, he inked a deal with Elektra Records and rustled up his formal debut for the label “Desperados” with much more to come.

Crowned as one of the most show-stopping moments of the evening by both US Weekly and Entertainment TonightBillboard shared “Bear Rinehart and Underwood’s vocals intertwining like leather and lace,” and praised, “the love song about wanting to remember an especially romantic moment felt particularly poignant as we head into a summer where new memories will be made after putting dreams on hold for more than a year.”

Into The Mystery was announced last month alongside the release of the album’s lead single and title track. Earlier this month, the band unveiled the album’s opening track “What I’m Here ForInto The Mystery’s early songs have received praise from Rolling Stone, Billboard, People, American Songwriter, and more. Just as their critically acclaimed 2020 album Out of Body impacted audiences, NEEDTOBREATHE capitalized on a rush of inspiration and rode the wave of creativity. Over the course of three weeks, they resided under one roof, laughed during meals, explored their surroundings, and recorded together with co-producer and engineer Konrad Snyder and special guests. Out of this de facto creative hub and “extended summer camp,” they handcrafted an album reflective of the moment, yet independent of all expectations, even their own. For as intimate as the story may seem, they filmed every minute of it for an upcoming documentary entitled, Into The Mystery. Watch a teaser for the film here.

The past 12 months represent one of the most prolific periods in the band’s career thus far. They recently unveiled Live from the Woods Vol. 2, a live album recorded during three sold out, socially distanced outdoor concerts at Pelham, TN’s famed The Caverns. The band previewed the album with a performance of “Alive” on CBS’s The Late Late Show with James Corden. Meanwhile, Out of Body debuted in the top 5 across three Billboard charts, and received critical acclaim from Billboard, Spin, Southern Living, American Songwriter, Taste of Country, and more.

Since 1998, NEEDTOBREATHE have quietly emerged as a dynamic force in rock music, topping the charts, selling out historic venues, and generating hundreds of millions of streams to date. The band has gathered one platinum single, four gold singles, and a gold album. Along the way, “Multiplied” notched their first GRAMMY® nomination. Simultaneously, they performed to sold out crowds at arenas and amphitheaters coast to coast. In addition to garnering two nods at the Billboard Music Awards, they’ve attracted acclaim from People, Rolling Stone, Forbes, and many more. Within weeks of its release, the quintet, Bear Rinehart [vocals, guitar], Seth Bolt [bass, vocals], Josh Lovelace [keys, vocals], Randall Harris [drums], and Tyler Burkum [guitar], stole away to an old historic house in Columbia, TN where they lived together, ate together, laughed together, and recorded together for three weeks in the fall of 2020. They returned home with their eighth album and documentary Into The Mystery [Elektra Records]. It’s the kind of record that could only be made by a band who has been through it all and still has enough faith to keep encouraging one another. It’s NEEDTOBREATHE.

4th of July Violence Across America

By Eamonn Burke

This year’s Fourth of July, while stifled by the coronavirus concerns and pleas from officials to stay in, was still a violent one.

39 people were shot in New York City on the night of July Fourth, including three confirmed deaths. All three victims were in their 20s, and two were in Harlem; the other in Brooklyn. One of the deaths, a 23 year old man, was the result of a party and the product of much confusion amidst fireworks. “You didn’t know where it was coming from because they were running this way and that way,” said a witness.

Among the other non-fatal violence was a 34 year old woman struck by a haywire bullet while walking her dog in the Bronx, a group of four men and one woman shot in Manhattan, and a man walking in Brooklyn with a friend who was shot and killed. Additionally, there were 13 reported stabbings in the city that night. The violent night comes after an overall above average level of violence in the city throughout the month of June.

Chicago saw an even bloodier night, as 67 people were shot over the weekend, killing 13. Two of the dead were children, 7 and 14, prompting a statement from Mayor Lori Lightfoot:

“As a city, we must wrap our arms around our youth so they understand there’s a future for them that isn’t wrapped up in gun violence.”

The death of the teen late Saturday resulted from the open fire that a group of four men unleashed on a large crowd, killing four people total. The 7 year old girl was shot in the head on the sidewalk outside a party at her grandmother’s house.

While LA seems relatively unscathed by gun violence over the holiday, the emergency services nevertheless had their hands full dealing with over 3,000 calls to the fire department, despite banning fireworks due to the coronavirus. The most severe of the cases was a fire that had engulfed an apartment complex in Northridge. The extensive use of fireworks in the city also lead to decreased air quality. It was one of worst firework cases the city had seen in years, according to air quality management executive Philip Fine.

Baltimore shootings over the weekend claimed the life of one in a double shooting, shortly after a quadruple shooting injured four more, and two other unrelated shootings, bringing the total injured to eight.

A family of five was shot in Detroit, killing the 39 year old mother and injuring four others. Two shootings injured four people in Philadelphia on Saturday night, and more violence followed on Sunday, including a six year old boy who died. A child is in critical condition after being shot in the head in St. Louis, and an eight year old girl was shot and injured in Cleveland. A nightclub shooting in Greenville left two people dead and injured eight others.

The seven noted above, successfully displayed mastery and met the qualification to be awarded the title Master Sommelier. The results were announced at the Krug Reception on September 11th at the Four Seasons Resort in St. Louis, Missouri. “The examinations are an opportunity for our candidates to shine as they demonstrate their mastery of our beverage service industry,” said Devon Broglie, MS, Chairman of the Court of Master Sommeliers, Americas. “It is inspiring to see their dedication to rigorous study and preparation on display during the examination days.”

Following the celebration of our new members, Broglie reflected on the challenges facing the organization and thanked the Examination Committee for its tireless work to provide a rigorous, exacting and fair examination consistent with the Court’s peerless Master Sommelier credential. “We have made great strides to become a stronger organization over the past year,” Broglie said. “We have improved the security of our examinations, strengthened our ethical principles, and we continue our commitment to leading the industry with integrity as we celebrate new Master Sommeliers and mentor all those still striving to attain the goal.”

The Master Sommelier Diploma is the highest distinction a professional can attain in the beverage service industry. The Master Sommelier Diploma Examination consists of three sections: a verbal theory examination, a wine assessment exercise using the Deductive Tasting Method, and a practical component that focuses on hospitality, beverage service, salesmanship, and overall business acumen. Candidates must receive passing scores in each section to earn the highly coveted Master Sommelier title.

“The Master Sommelier Diploma Examination is extremely demanding.  We applaud the efforts of all candidates who sat this fair and rigorous examination,” Broglie said. “Today we celebrate the success of these seven new Master Sommeliers and continue our commitment to mentor all candidates on their path to success as we chart the course for current and future Master Sommeliers worldwide.”

Smino Unleashes “Reverend” Track

Smino is on a roll. The St. Louis rap phenomenon has been flowing nonstop since the release of his sophomore album, NOIR, last November. His latest single, “Reverend,” produced by Chicago newcomer, prodxvzn, is a lyrical stream of consciousness that serves as another testament to the midwest MC’s otherworldy gifts. Listen HERE.

The artist is currently featured on the Dreamville posse cut, “Sacrifices,” with J. Cole, Saba and Earth Gang. He also nabbed a coveted guest spot on Chance the Rapper’s album, The Big Day, on the song, “Eternal.” The duo recently performed it for the first time at Lollapalooza and, by all accounts, ripped the stage.

Earlier this year, Smino headlined the sold-out “Hoopti Tour,” which took him to 33 cities across the United States, Canada and England and appeared on an episode of Wild’n Out. His new single “Reverend” is now available at all digital retailers via Zero Fatigue/Downtown Interscope Records.
