360 Magazine recently visited The Windy City to sight-see, socialize, and of course, enjoy some classic Chicago deep dish pizza. Below, we’ve complied a guide of our must-see stops in Chi-Town. Whether you’re planning your next vacation or prepping for a day trip into the city, 360 is sure to point you in the right direction.

Hornblower Seadog Cruises

Navy Pier, 600 E Grand Ave, Chicago, IL 60611

Seadog Speedboat Tours in Chicago provides exciting excursions where tourists can steady their sea legs. Their boat is propelled by two V-12 motors and pushes about 2000 HP. This boat tour venue is a bit cheaper than the other traditional tours in the area. Furthermore, Seadog Cruises are also much more interesting.

Our cruise guide was extremely comical and entertaining, which made for an enthralling trip. He possessed a charismatic and energetic zeal that was infectious to our entire tour group. Yet, the most attractive part of the route was the stunning view of the Chicago skyline. 

Wildberry Pancakes and Cafe

196 E Pearson St, Chicago, IL 60611

Wildberry Pancakes and Cafe (established 2004) is one of the most well-known breakfast spots in The Windy City. Their high-quality level of service and ability to produce an impeccable pancake is unmatched.

We dove into many of their dishes and secondary orders– like their turkey bacon, sausages and muffins, as well as fruit cups. If you visit, Wildberry’s fresh-pressed orange juice is a must-try. This fine eatery is handled like a well-oiled machine. Although it took a while to sit down, once we ordered our food came out right away.

Sidetrack

3349 N Halsted St, Chicago, IL 60657

Sidetrack is a high-energy, alternative discothèque experience. This extremely diversified and non-intrusive venue welcomes all guests. Cheap booze and good music are provided so that customers can get their groove on. The venue hosted a polite doorman and a bartender with access to several rooms.

On Sunday, Sidetrack possessed a highly mixed ratio of men and women of all genders, beliefs and cultures. 360 Magazine strongly recommends this spot for a memorable night of dancing. On the whole, the crowd was friendly, funny and fabulous. Sidetrack is the perfect spot to break the ice.

The Signature Room at the 95th®

875 N Michigan Ave, Chicago, IL 60611

The Signature Room is a premium, fine dining room with 360° views over Chicago’s breathtaking city center. If you’re dressed to impress (since The Signature Room does enforce a dress code), head straight to the restaurant’s living room for an intimate and decadent culinary experience. To pair with your dish, The Signature Room offers many delicious specialty cocktails. As compared to any other top-class steakhouse, The Signature room is moderately prices and provides superior foodie selections. 360 Magazine was waited on by staff who was attentive, professional and amicable.

While their cuisine is amazing, the restaurant’s expansive views take the cake. The elevator pushes you to the building’s 95th floor in minutes–so if you fear heights, think twice. Regardless, The Signature Room is a Windy City staple. A must-visit.

Windy City Nails & Spa

5316 N Milwaukee Ave ste g, Chicago, IL 60630

360 Magazine stayed at nearby Airbnb in this neighborhood and wanted to get a last-minute pedicure. Windy City Nails & Spa saved the day! This nail salon and spa follows all CDC guidelines, and even took our temperature while wearing masks. This no-frills facility offers nail, waxing, and eyebrow services.

When it came time to pay, Windy City’s doting service and pedicure cost us $28. The nail tech took her time to perform the manicure with gentle care and precision. This nail parlor is great option, if you don’t want to go into downtown Chicago and pay the downtown prices.

Gorilla Sushi Jefferson Park

4945 N Milwaukee Ave #2, Chicago, IL 60630

Gorilla Sushi is a hidden gem in Jefferson Park near Merta Station. If you’re looking for Asian cuisine to tantalize your tastebuds, look no further. With tasty selections like gyoza, sushi rolls, and sashimi, even the pickiest eaters are sure to find a dish they love.

For a sushi spot, Gorilla Sushi is very inexpensive. This restaurant provides excellent service paired with picturesque presentation. Fresh, fast, and affordable, this sushi joint is a lesser-known treasure of Chicago.

The Underground

The Underground Chicago (15) is one of the most legendary nightclubs in the Midwest. Frequented by A-listers like like Justin Bieber, Usher, LaBron James, David Beckham, Will.I.Am, and Miley Cyrus– The Underground provides unmatched, elevated entertainment experiences. Beats reverberated throughout the energetic club all night, thanks to the state of the art sound system. Paired with pyrotechnics and projections, this nightclub truly knows how to put on a show.

This venue has premium bottle service, welcoming staff, and a fashionable porter. On the day we visited, Lil Jon DJ’d alongside Emmy award-winning TV host, actor and personality, Billy Dec. If you’re ready to party after the pandemic, be sure to visit here.

Beat Kitchen on the Riverwalk

Beat Kitchen is the perfect pit stop for a cold can on a hot day. 360 Magazine quickly stopped in at this restaurant, and was impressed by their quick and extremely hospitable service. All of the staff was very welcoming.

While Beat Kitchen is a little expensive, you are paying for quality cooking that is surely worth the price. The restaurant of the atmosphere is lively and hip. Beat Kitchen creates an enjoyable ambience with their eclectic array of Afro Latino music.

H&M

840 N Michigan Ave, Chicago, IL 60611

H&M on Michigan Ave offers a boutique service experience and a plethora of stylish pieces. All of H&M’s clothing at this location is clean and easy to find. The merchandise was well organized and offers fashionable, budget-friendly styles for all sizes and ages.

H&M has a consistent supply of merchandise that is well-outfitted for travel and tourism. For hip adults and teens, H&M has all the trendy styles one could desire. Whether you’re looking for business casual duds or a new swimsuit for vacation, H&M has your back.

Lou Mitchell’s

Lou Mitchell‘s lives up to its prestigious reputation as one of the best diners in Chicago. In 2018, Lou Mitchell’s received a Michelin star. This restaurant and bakery constantly beckons in customers with their excellent service, food and ambience. Lou Mitchell’s does their own baking, so customers can enjoy freshly baked breads and marmalade selections.

360 Magazine loved sitting outside in the sunshine while we enjoyed your meal. However, the inside of Lou Mitchells offers a more retro, vintage diner feel. We recommend their fluffy, delectable flapjacks!

Giordano’s

1340 S Michigan Ave, Chicago, IL 60605

The legendary Giordano’s is located in Chicago’s South Loop. All other pizza shops pale in comparison when stood next to this iconic pizza shop. Giordano’s stuffed (AKA deep-dish) pizza is truly unbeatable. Layered with fresh cheese, a buttery, flaky rind, mouthwatering tomato sauce and chicken sausage, every bite is meant to be savored. 

Giordano’s offers local craft beer selections to pair with their pizza pies. No matter how hungry you come in, it will be extremely difficult to eat all the pizza. The portion sizes here are very generous. However, Giordano’s pizza makes for delicious leftovers that can easily be reheated in the oven. 360 Magazine will definitely be back to enjoy another tasty slice from this iconic pizza shop.

MCCB Chicago

2138 S Archer Ave, Chicago, IL 60616

Modern Chinese Cookbook (MCCB) creates magical dishes that will instantly take you to Beijing. MCCB’s Sichuan and Canton style cuisine is authentic and mouthwatering. This Asian eatery has all the ingredients for a wonderful gastronomic experience: friendly staff, Michelin-starred chefs and carefully designed appetizers. We recommend trying the restaurant’s signature dish, charcoal-grilled whole fish.

Praise for MCCB continues to flow year by year, thanks to their fine food and hospitable service. If we could embrace the owners for creating such a pleasant atmosphere, we would. 360 Magazine will surely come back to MCCB soon!

FLOGGING MOLLY × VIOLENT FEMMES ANNOUNCE CO-HEADLINE TOUR

Legendary punk bands Flogging Molly and Violent Femmes are excited to announce their upcoming fall co-headline tour, featuring special guests Me First And The Gimme Gimmes and Thick. Various pre-sales begin this week, with general tickets on-sale this Friday, June 25 at 10 am local time. The run kicks off September 3 in Maryland Heights, MO and will bring good times and great music to cities from coast to coast, including a show at Pier 17 in New York City on September 21. Full routing can be found below.

As Violent Femmes celebrate their 40th anniversary together this year, this also provided an opportunity to commemorate the band’s enduring catalog of cult classics with the long out-of-print vinyl reissue of Add It Up (19811993’). Available now via Craft Recordings, the 23-track compilation was re-released on 2-LP and digital formats, featuring the Femmes’ biggest hits such as “Blister in the Sun,” “American Music,” and “Gone Daddy Gone,” plus live recordings of fan-favorites like “Add It Up,” and “Kiss Off,” alongside a trove of demos, B-sides, interstitial voice recordings, and rarities. ACCLAIMED PIANIST WAEL FAROUK SHOWCASED IN UNPRECEDENTED CONCERT PROGRAM OF RACHMANINOFF PIANO CONCERTOS NO. 1, 2 AND 3

Concert to Be Recorded this April on the MAC’s Belushi Performance Hall Stage, Premieres April 17; Available on Demand Through June 15

Internationally acclaimed pianist, Wael Farouk, joins New Philharmonic, the professional orchestra in residence at the McAninch Arts Center (MAC) for “Rachmaninoff Piano Concertos.” This unprecedented concert program, conducted by Maestro Kirk Muspratt and recorded at the MAC’s Belushi Performance Hall stage, will premiere at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 17, then be available on demand through June 15.

The concert will include Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in F-sharp minor, Concerto No. 2 in C minor and Concerto No. 3 in D minor. Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3 in D minor is respected, even feared, by many pianists. It has been called “daunting” (Wall Street Journal), “a classical war horse” (New York Times) and “one of the most technically challenging concertos in the classical repertoire” (CMUSE). Piano Concerto No. 1, actually Rachmaninoff’s second attempt at a piano concerto, is very different from his later works. Piano Concerto No. 2, one of Rachmaninoff’s most enduring works, has been hailed as “an unassailably epic work of genius” (Classic FM).

Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No 3 is extremely important to Farouk, who was born with shortened ligaments in his hands. His doctor suggested to his parents that he study the piano to help exercise his fingers. Farouk heard Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3 when he was 12 and it fueled his continuing interest in the piano. When he was 13, he mentioned his interest in Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3 to his piano teacher, who discouraged his interest in the work, citing that even the best of pianists with large hands found it a challenge so with Farouk’s small hands it was impossible. Farouk took it upon himself to prove the teacher wrong and, at age 19, played Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3 with the Cairo Symphony, as the first Egyptian to ever perform this concerto.

Farouk’s theme for this concert is “Climbing Beyond Everest: 3 Musical Mountains and 3 Systemic Injustices: Discrimination, Oppression, and Persecution.” Farouk sees the upcoming concert as a testament to the enduring strength of the human spirit and ability to overcome what appear to be insurmountable challenges. To prepare for this challenging concert, Farouk will build his stamina by playing the program three times a day leading up to the New Philharmonic concert. Herculean accomplishments are nothing new to Farouk, who was last seen at the MAC performing all five of Beethoven’s concertos in a single program, “Beethoven: Five Piano Concertos | One Pianist” (2018).

Farouk has garnered international acclaim as a concert pianist, performing on five continents in such venues as the White Hall in St. Petersburg, Schumann’s house in Leipzig, and Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in New York, where his solo debut performance in 2013 was described as “absolutely masterful” (New York Concert Review). Farouk is the Director of the Keyboard Studies Program of Wisconsin’s Carthage College and Piano Faculty at Chicago’s Roosevelt University. Using virtual technology, he instructs students as far away as China and Nigeria, Ukraine and Egypt. He also conducts international virtual lectures seen around the world.

Philadelphia Fine Art Fair Announces Exhibitors for Inaugural Edition

Philadelphia Fine Art Fair (PFAF) announces the exhibitors for its inaugural, 2019 edition presenting works by significant modern and contemporary artists. Taking place on April 4-7, 2019 at The 23rd Street City Troop Armory (22 S 23rd St, Philadelphia), PFAF brings 34 international galleries, featuring 300 established artists, to the City of Brotherly Love.

“Galleries were carefully selected to showcase the best examples of each genre and kind of artist. Though international in scope, we do  also provide an emphasis on local artists. Fairgoers will be able to view and acquire works by a refined selection of emerging, mid-career and blue chip contemporary artists,” says Fair Director Rick Friedman. “Best of all,  there are ‘must have’ treasures for every budget. Today Maggie Rogers debuts the video for her new track Give A Little from her forthcoming debut album on Capitol Records. Filmed in Pacoima, CA the video was co-directed by Rogers and Alan Del Rio Ortiz and features Rachel Matthews, Camila Mendes, Myriah Rose, Firefly, Makayla Menard and Bridget Gamble.

“I had so much fun directing this video alongside Alan Del Rio Ortiz,” says Rogers. “I was obsessed with 70s skate culture in high school and really just wanted to have a silly day recreating my favorite scenes from Lords of Dogtown and paying homage to my favorite Farrah Fawcett photos. Those early skate videos feel so raw and powerful, it was important to me to show that that energy could also be female. It was super special to have my two college pals, Rachel Matthews and Camila Mendes, along for the ride. We’ve been friends since the first week of our freshman year, but our schedules have gotten so beautifully and amazingly kind of crazy since we graduated a couple years ago. It was so much fun just to spend the day dancing and giggling with each other like the old days.”

Produced by GRAMMY winning producer Greg Kurstin (Adele, Sia, Foo Fighters) and Rogers, the upbeat, effervescent song can be streamed / downloaded HERE. Give A Little follows the acclaimed single Fallingwater, which NPR hailed as a powerful, mesmerizing depiction of Rogers’ transition over the last two years a celebration of the terrifying yet thrilling process of change.

Rogers will kick off a North American headline tour on October 15 at The Fillmore in San Francisco, CA. The run will include shows at The Observatory in Santa Ana, CA (October 18), The Vic Theatre in Chicago, IL (October 30) and Royale in Boston, MA (November 5). Rogers will also headline two sold out shows at Koko in London (August 29 + 30) following her performances at the U.K.’s Reading and Leeds festival. She will also perform at the Pilgrimage Music & Cultural Festival in Franklin, TN (September 22 + 23) and co-headline the 2018 All Things Go Fall Classic, one of Washington, DC’s largest signature festivals. She and LPX (Lizzy Plapinger) curated for opening day, October 6.

Beth Ditto × Sam Smith Tour

Today, Beth Ditto announces that she will be direct support for Sam Smith on the upcoming leg of The Thrill Of It All Tour. Ditto will join Smith starting August 14 at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, MN through September 13 at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, AB. Following that run, Ditto will also join Florence + the Machine for two special shows at The Anthem in Washington, D.C. on October 5 and 6. Full routing can be found below.

On July 17, Ditto will appear as a guest on NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers to discuss her role in the new Gus Van Sant film, Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far On Foot, which will be released this Friday. After the film’s Sundance Film Festival premiere this year, Vulture wrote, A first-time actress, the 36-year-old musician Beth Ditto, all but takes over as the large and lovably extroverted member of the group.

Last year, Ditto released her debut solo album, Fake Sugar. The New York Times praised Ditto as a powerhouse singer and noted that the album’s songs have stomp and girl-group melodies, Southernisms in their lyrics and garage-rock swagger. The Wall Street Journal included Fake Sugar in its round-up of The Best Music of 2017 and observed, Great pop for grownups is a rare commodity Beth Ditto delivers. NIGOS Release MV for Narcos

Straight off the heels of winning the BET Award as Best Group, superstar multi-platinum hip-hop trio Migos today release the video for their chart-topping song Narcos. This marks Quavo’s directorial debut, with co-direction by Joseph Desrosiers.

Narcos already has more than 153 million streams and was recently performed by the group on Saturday Night Live. Migos take the music on the road this summer on Aubrey and the Three Migos tour with Drake (full dates below).

“Murmurations”

Ben Howard’s new song, “Murmurations,” as well as his music video for the lead single, “Nica Libres At Dusk,” is out now—listen to the song HERE and watch the video HERE. The new music appears on Howard’s highly anticipated new album, Noonday Dream, out June 1 on Republic Records. Howard filmed and directed the “Nica Libres At Dusk” video with Australian cinematographer Allan Wilson in the Atlas Mountains.

Noonday Dream was written and produced by Howard, with production contributions from regular collaborator and band-mate Mickey Smith. The album was recorded over the course of two years in various studios throughout Europe, including the legendary Sawmills Studio as well as locations in southwest France. The new recording continues to highlight Howard’s sonic evolution with unpredictable and textured arrangements and rich, emotive songwriting.

Howard’s debut album Every Kingdom was released in October 2011. The album sold more than one million copies globally, receiving a Mercury Music Prize nomination, and winning him two Brit Awards in 2012 for “British Breakthrough” and “British Solo Male Artist.” The follow up, I Forget Where We Were, which was released in 2014 was met with similar critical and commercial acclaim—the album earned an Ivor Novello Award nomination, the U.K.’s most prestigious songwriting accolade, and charted #1 in the U.K. Howard’s music has amassed well over half a billion streams to date.
