Rising artist Oliver Malcolm takes a trip back to his home country to shoot a new music video, “The Machine.”Continuing his love for the DIY approach, Oliver shot the video first-person style with friends and features his high energy personality and eclectic creative voice — watch it above or here now:
The track first premiered on BBC Radio 1’s Indie Show with Jack Saunders, who delved deep into the meaning behind the track. Oliver tells the radio host that the lyrics revolt against the social institutions that prioritize material and financial gain above all else, transforming their subjects into simple cogs in “The Machine.” The song was a playlisting favorite when it was released earlier this month including being featured on the cover of Amazon Music’s “Breaking Alternative” playlist.
About Oliver Malcolm
Oliver Malcolm got his start early, teaching himself how to spin records at 12 years old. Shortly after, he downloaded Logic and taught himself how to produce – working with IDK, Aluna George, Joey Bada$$, Jay Rock, Masego Tinashe and more. Now twenty, Oliver has developed his own voice. Touching everything from the production, vocals, songwriting, engineering, mixing, and mastering, Oliver’s sound is unique and does not fit the mold of one genre. A multidisciplinary at heart, this is just the beginning of music lovers can look forward to from the new artist.
Praise for Oliver Malcolm:
“Oliver Malcolm is the dynamic rising star ready kick up a storm with his diverse, new punk-indebted EP” — NME
“With its deep bassline and bluesy melodies alchemizing jazz and pop influences, he crafts an almost tangible atmosphere of melancholy [in “Helen”] as pleas to a woman echo throughout” — Pigeons & Planes, Best New Artist
“The drums lurch toward the offbeats, some looped guitar picking tugs against that pulse and Malcolm’s voice is a rattled, quavery moan…Everything stays off-kilter for the two and a half paranoid minutes of “Switched Off” by Oliver Malcolm” — New York Times, Playlist
“Oliver Malcolm’s ‘Switched Up’ Is Intoxicating… new single ‘Switched Up’ is a mesh of influences, a confluence of sounds, a mosaic of techniques.” — CLASH
“A lot of artists claim genre-blending style, but Malcolm’s is altogether impossible to define. Is it alt-blues? Dark electro-pop? Folk-hip-hop? Does it matter?” —TIME Magazine, Best New Song
“The hip-hop producer-turned-twisted musical anarchist is making songs for nobody but himself. You’ll love them anyway.” — i-D Magazine
Consistently bringing his one-man-production skills to create a one of a kind soundscape, rising act Oliver Malcolm is back with his next track, “The Machine.” This new cut is inspired by Oliver’s love for The Clash as well as the gloomy grey atmosphere of his hometown in London, U.K. The track first premiered on BBC Radio 1’s Indie Show with Jack Saunders, who delved deep into the meaning behind the track. Oliver tells the radio host that the lyrics revolt against the social institutions that prioritize material and financial gain above all else, transforming their subjects into simple cogs in “The Machine.” Fast becoming known for his eclectic visual pairings to his songs, Oliver will release a video for the track in a couple of weeks.
“The Machine” follows tracks “Helen,” “Kevin,” and debut single “Switched Up” — all with its own genre-blending sounds that showcases the breadth and creativity the young artist has and will be employing when crafting his debut project, later this fall.

Last year, Ditto released her debut solo album, Fake Sugar. The New York Times praised Ditto as a powerhouse singer and noted that the album’s songs have stomp and girl-group melodies, Southernisms in their lyrics and garage-rock swagger. The Wall Street Journal included Fake Sugar in its round-up of The Best Music of 2017 and observed, Great pop for grownups is a rare commodity Beth Ditto delivers. Paper christened Ditto rock’s homecoming queen while People highlighted Fake Sugar as one of its Picks, observing, Whether it’s a glittering stomper (Oo La La) or stripped-down Stevie Nicks homage (the title track), Ditto shines throughout.

Florence + the Machine unveil a new song, “Big God,” and video today—watch it, choreographed by Akram Khan and Florence and directed by Autumn de Wilde, HERE. “Big God” is the third track to be released from Florence + the Machine’s hugely anticipated fourth studio album High As Hope, out June 29on Republic Records.
‘Big God’ was written about that feeling when someone has not replied to your text, the modern phenomenon of ‘Ghosting’ which is one of my favourite words but not my favourite feeling. I was describing it to someone and they said to me ‘You need a big god’, as if the need in me were so cavernous, it would take something enormous to fill it. Probably something bigger than a text message.
It’s always been a very physical song. I saw a dance piece in my head as I was writing it, so to co choreograph something with Akram Khan was a huge honour. Autumn de Wilde fully understood what I was trying to do. The power of the desire within the void, left with yourself to rage and wonder and really it is yourself you are raging against. Not the ghost.
Akram Khan adds:
For me, this encounter with Florence and her powerful song somehow navigated itself towards the element—water. But the direction of the dance also became a resistance to all things that wish to oppress, a sort of protest dance and yet a celebratory one towards a new found freedom.
Furthermore, the band have added additional shows to their 23-city North American fall headline tour, including second nights at Los Angeles’ Hollywood BowlSeptember 26, Washington, D.C.’s The Anthem October 6 and New York’s Barclays Center October 10. Tickets are available to the public Friday, June 29, with pre-sales beginning Monday, June 25. Previously announced dates—on sale now—include Seattle, Portland, Nashville, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Chicago and more. Visit florenceandthemachine.net for more information.
High As Hopewas co-produced by Florence and Emile Haynie and features contributions from Kamasi Washington, Sampha, Tobias Jesso Jr, Kelsey Lu, Jamie xx and Thomas Barlett. Watch the A.G. Rojas-directed video for first official single “Hunger” here.
Three-time GRAMMY® Award-nominated and BRIT Award-winning multiplatinum singer-songwriter James Bay releases a brand new vertical video for his latest single “Us” on Spotify April 6th. Watch the new vertical video HERE.
The beautiful video brings to life a feeling of unity and on the song Bay says: “Touring my music means I’ve been lucky enough to meet people all over the world and witness the phenomenal strength of crowds. Gigs can be the greatest proof that positivity and strength comes from us all sticking together. I wrote this song to explore unity and inclusion. Looking through the lens of my own personal relationships, this song turned out to be a particularly important moment on the album for me.”
