Max Brallier appearing at NYC Comic Con for The Last Kids on Earth series (10/8/17)

‘THE LAST KIDS ON EARTH’ SERIES REACHES ONE MILLION COPIES IN PRINT AND IS OPTIONED FOR TELEVISION

Atomic Cartoons to adapt New York Times bestselling series for TV, The Last Kids on Earth and the Nightmare King hits bookshelves today

Max Brallier’s New York Times bestselling The Last Kids on Earth series reaches a groundbreaking 1 million copies in print with the release of the third book, The Last Kids on Earth and the Nightmare King from Viking, an imprint of Penguin Young Readers. This comes on the heels of Thunderbird Entertainment’s announcement that their Emmy Award-nominated animation studio Atomic Cartoons has optioned the rights to bring the series to screens everywhere. Filled with wisecracking kids, crazy gadgets, and a lifetime supply of zombies and giant-sized monsters, The Last Kids on Earth is has been described as Diary of a Wimpy Kid meets The Walking Dead.

Brallier is on board as executive producer and writer for the animated series, alongside Atomic Cartoon’s Jennifer McCarren and Matthew Berkowitz. Thunderbird Entertainment is a rapidly growing Vancouver-based multiplatform entertainment company with offices in Los Angeles, Toronto and London. Thunderbird’s most recent projects include the upcoming Blade Runner 2049 starring Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford, hit Canadian comedy Kim’s Convenience and the animated Netflix original series Beat Bugs, featuring reimagined songs from the Beatles catalogue featuring artists such as Sia, Eddie Vedder and P!nk.

A rich blend of humor with illustrations by Australian comic artist Douglas Holgate, The Last Kids on Earth has received three starred reviews and was called ‘Terrifyingly fun’ by Jeff Kinney, author of the #1 New York Times bestselling Diary of a Wimpy Kid. With sales of each book increasing exponentially every year, the series draws even the most reluctant readers in with its ‘likable cast, lots of adventure, and gooey, oozy monster slime galore’ (Booklist). The Last Kids on Earth is quickly becoming the next big series to watch with at least two more books still to come.

Max Brallier is a renaissance man in children’s book world, with a keen ear for writing pitch perfect middle grade voice. Before he was a New York Times bestselling author, he worked in marketing at St. Martin’s Press, and developed adventure games for the website Poptropica, a virtual world of games for kids with millions of users per day. He has also written for Cartoon Network licensed properties including Adventure Time, Regular Show and Uncle Grampa. With The Last Kids on Earth Brallier takes his talents to the written page, where the main characters are independent, geeky, zombie fighters that are ‘hilarious and full of heart’ (Boys’ Life).

Inspired by spending his own childhood reading in his backyard treehouse, Brallier’s main character Jack Sullivan and his squad of friends reside in a tricked-out treehouse of their own after a monster-zombie apocalypse hits town. Along the way they encounter friendly monsters (and some evil ones too), treating life like a video game by imagining obstacles as feats. Brallier observes that children often think this way too, whether it’s fear of a test in school or gathering confidence to raise your hand to ask a question in class. “Kids really respond to Jack’s confidence and slightly self-deprecating voice,” Brallier says. “It means so much to me to see the dog-earred pages of my books and connect with the kids who can’t wait to hear how the series will end.”

This September Brallier will visit over 8,000 students in schools across the country on a national tour. Penguin met the excitement with a robust marketing and advertising campaign with over 50 million impressions, and gave readers an opportunity to be entered in the acknowledgements of the next Last Kids on Earth title, releasing in 2018.

Max Brallier is the New York Times bestselling author of more than thirty books and games, including the middle-grade series The Last Kids on Earth. Under the pen name Jack Chabert, Max is the creator of the Eerie Elementary series for Scholastic Books and author of the New York Times bestselling graphic novel Poptropica: Mystery of the Map. He is the creator of Galactic Hot Dogs, a middle-grade adventure series, and has written books for properties including LEGO, Adventure Time, Regular Show, and Steven Universe. Max has written for adults, including the pick-your-own-path series Can YOU Survive the Zombie Apocalypse? and an entry in the zombie anthology Nights of the Living Dead. In the olden days, Max was a game designer for the virtual world Poptropica and worked in marketing at St. Martin’s Press. Max lives in New York with his wife, Alyse, and daughter Lila.

Heir n Heiress × LA Fitness

Founded in January of 2017 by Christian Rupe of Toledo, OH, Heir n Heiress [HnH] was designed as a new fitness and lifestyle brand for fitness, fashion, and contemporary lifestyle. For the better part of the last half-century, the overall populous of the world has seen the same brands with some changes here and there in adaptation to cultural expectations. Heir n Heiress was founded to be a new brand to attack multiple demographics of individuals. HnH wants to represent athletes, models, and the everyday individual.

Rather than simply being a brand that is only seen in the athletic spectrum or only seen in the fashion industry, HnH wants to be a brand that anybody can wear, whenever. Recently, HnH has targeted top level athletes, such as Justin Gatlin winner of the 100m dash at this years (2017) World Championships in London, in hopes to expand our horizon amongst the athletic world. During the month of September, we have released a new line of athletic wear that can be found on our website. To expand our horizon, HnH wants to show more people wearing our brand in their everyday lives while doing what they take passion in. Our slogan, “Be Crowned A Champion” is one that attacks this specific task.

“Be Crowned A Champion.” What does this slogan mean? Everybody wants to feel as if they are great in what they love to do whether that being a sport, hobby, job, or lifestyle choice that they represent. Being crowned a champion does not simply suit that athletic life, but it gives a sense of accomplishment to anyone who feels as if they are the best at what they do. Our crown logo is a physical representation of that effort to be the best of the best. HnH wants our logo to stand out in a crowd in hopes to draw attention the individual(s) wearing it on their apparel. With that attention, it will motivate more individuals to want to show off their talents to the world.

Why wear Heir n Heiress apparel? Simply put…you want to be great…you want to be crowned a champion. YOU want people to look at you as someone who is driven to be great! With our new line of athletic apparel that has been newly released during the month of September as stated earlier, we want people to desire our logo. We are a brand that is nondiscriminatory and nonjudgmental. HnH wants to produce more casual style clothing alongside our athletic lines to reach all walks of life in hopes to show adaptation to the ever-changing culture of the world.

Recently, HnH ran a successful promotion with 360 Magazine as Heir n Heiress took over their Instagram live during the weekend of September 23rd, 2017. This live event took place at Ohio Northern University’s Homecoming Weekend. The next major move for HnH will happen on September 28th at 5:30pm Eastern time at a popular LA Fitness location at 2859 N Holland Sylvania Rd, Toledo, OH 43615. Here, HnH will be launching the new line of fitness wear. If anyone is in the area for this event, stop by to receive promotional items and a chance to win free apparel.

OFF BLOOM RELEASE NEW TRACK ‘GOLDEN DREAMS’

Following the release of the feisty new single ‘Shut Up And Let Me Walk’ and the Hudson Mohawke-produced kiss-off ‘Rockefe11a (F**k That To Be Honest),’ rising Anglo-Danish trio Off Bloom announce a brand new 5-track EP titled Lover Like Me, due out on October 13th via Capitol Records. The EP includes the aforementioned tracks plus three new offerings – the first taste of which is the glittering four-to-the-floor workout ‘Golden Dreams’ – Listen HERE.

Speaking about the EP, the band commented, “This EP is about love, sex, frustration, intoxication and of course loyalty, loyalty, loyalty. This group of songs represents the last 3-4 months of our lives – our ups and downs, our fuck-ups and successes, our loves and losses. We had an amazing time creating this EP and got to experience so much, and those experiences shaped the music. We just want to connect to the people listening to these tracks and hopefully some people will see themselves in the music and in us and want to join the bloominati.”

The Lover Like Me EP comes after previous single ‘Falcon Eye’, the follow up to the Anglo-Danish trio’s breakthrough debut EP Love To Hate It.

The trio – Mette on vocals and Mads & Alex on production – formed in Copenhagen but recently moved to London. Their unique, boundary-pushing sound is the perfect melding of Scandinavian electro pop and a new wave of UK and US beats with global influences. The band is from the same forward-thinking young Danish scene as MØ, Liss, Vera and Vasco, have worked with the likes of Two Inch Punch, Kid Harpoon and AlunaGeorge and have collaborations lined up with the likes of Bauer and RL Grime. Watch this space.

“Copenhagen based trio Off Bloom make punchy, radio-ready songs with a genuine streak of could-care-less attitude.”

“If you don’t know Off Bloom, you should. They sound like a perfect love child between Flume and Sleigh Bells: melodic, noisy, and sensual.”

“(Off Bloom makes) fiery, punk-influenced pop with killer hooks.”

Josh Bennett hand knits style and Marvel storytelling together in new menswear sweater collection

Josh Bennett hand knits style and Marvel storytelling together in new menswear sweater collection

Josh Bennett, fashion designer and knitter extraordinaire, brings his passion for Marvel and its complex storytelling into a new sweater collection inspired by Marvel Studios’ Thor: Ragnarok. The new line will showcase Nordic influences, luxury fibers, and fantastical touches across a tight range of men’s sweaters available this holiday season.

Hand knitting has had a renaissance recently, taking the fashion world by storm, and Bennett has led that charge with custom knitwear collections in conjunction with Bergdorf Goodman, Michael Bastian, Tommy Hilfiger, and others. Sweaters remain a staple of winter fashion, and hand-crafted knitting is the ultimate in luxury with each piece designed and finished in the US by Bennett himself. Josh has also expanded his business by using KOCO (Knit One Care One), a knitting hub located in India, that empowers and educates women in the skills of knitting, math, and English.

Bennett has always had a love for storytelling, and grew an appreciation for the robust worlds in Marvel stories as he immersed himself in Marvel films. When Thor: Ragnarok was announced as a November release, the unique settings, bold colors, and sense of wonder made it a perfect idea for a winter sweater collection. Using references from the film, modern day trend influences, and new knitting techniques, Bennett has created a first-of-its-kind collection.

“Thor has been a character in Nordic mythology long before Marvel captured the Asgardian prince in his debut comic in 1950. The film reference was a fantastic help to tell the story and set the mood, but I knew I did not want these sweaters to be literal depictions of the characters. I decided to combine aspects of the original Norse stories with the rich Marvel storytelling, making each sweater desirable to super fans of both genres. Each design has unique details that reference both authentic Norse mythology and Marvel plot points,” states Bennett.

Marvel has had great success with merging its characters with the fashion world, as its fandom is excited by lifestyle apparel to have a unique way to celebrate their passion for the brand and characters. Past collaborations have spanned couture to performance wear, but this is the first co-branded sweater line ever done from Marvel. The luxury limited edition collection includes four different styles, a chunky cardigan, v-neck tennis sweater, fisherman hoodie, and fair isle zip up, and uses yarns including 100% Italian cashmere and yarns from New Zealand, a nod to Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi. Each sweater is extremely limited to no more than three pieces per size for each style and is numbered and dated.

“Marvel characters are cool, strong, and relatable, so it is exciting to see such a smart and creative interpretation of the main players in Thor: Ragnarok,” said Paul Gitter, senior vice president, licensing, Marvel at Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media. “We constantly strive to extend the scope of what Marvel merchandise can be in order to expand what current fans are looking for and to bring in new fans, so a luxury sweater collection is an amazing way to celebrate this unique film and how far the Marvel brand has come.”

The Josh Bennett x Marvel collection ranges from $1095 – $1495 USD and is available to shop online at www.joshbennettnyc.com beginning November 10th with a pre sale October 10th.

About Josh Bennett

Josh Bennett grew up in Pennsylvania where he learned to knit from his grandmother when he was 8 years old. After a short time, he stopped, because boys don’t knit. Then he got interested in musical theater, because all boys sing and dance. In 2000, Josh worked at the Goodspeed Opera House in East Haddam, CT where he picked up knitting again from the cast members in the show, and hasn’t stopped since.

After moving to New York City in 2001 and knitting constantly, Josh worked at a yarn shop on the Upper West Side that wrote custom patterns for their customers. Noticing the lack of menswear patterns being designed and published, he took his pattern writing skills and was determined to change that.

Since, Josh has collaborated with CFDA Award winner Michael Bastian on a hand knitted line, Michael Bastian by Josh Bennett sold at Bergdorf Goodman, Sak’s 5th Avenue and stores worldwide. They have also worked together on projects for the Folk Couture: Fashion and Folk Art at the American Folk Art Museum, Le Cabinet de Curiosités of Thomas Erber, and a fashion helmet for the NFL/Bloomindale/CFDA Super Bowl XLVIII collaboration which was auctioned off for the NFL Foundation.

He was the Men’s Sweater Designer at Tommy Hilfiger and has also worked with and designed for GANT by Michael Bastian, Perry Ellis, Alexander Wang, Rowan Magazine, Vogue Knitting, and other knitting publications. He is the designer of his own exclusive capsule collection of men’s hand knitted sweaters at Bergdorf Goodman, Josh Bennett + Goodman’s.

Josh studied Menswear Design at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT).
