Newport Car Museum

Established as a cherished attraction for car lovers, the Newport Car Museum in Portsmouth, R.I. has become a business success story like no other in the car world. Despite bringing in tourists from other popular landmarks in Newport like the Gilded Age Mansions and the seaside attractions of Newport, the Museum has set itself aside as an established and longstanding attraction in Rhode Island.

Opened just four and a half years ago, the number of visitors that the Museum has drawn in in just 2021 alone is exponential. Nearly 50,000 people have been welcomed into the museum this past year, and the numbers are expected to only continue to rise in the coming new year. Throughout the short period that the Museum has been opened, it has won numerous awards and has been compared to other top celebrated car museums like Florida’s Rev Institute and California’s Peterson Automotive Museum. In 2021, the Newport Car Museum was named amongst the Top 10% of Attractions Worldwide and was presented with the Tripadvisor® Travelers’ Choice award.

Gunther Buerman and his wife Maggie Buerman started the museum in June of 2017. The Buerman’s poured their heart and soul into accomplishing the success story of the Museum thus far. Gunther Buerman states, “Our hope always has been to put smiles on our visitors’ faces, and so far, we have been successful.”

The Buerman’s admit that they did not know how the public would react to the Museum, and just how they would truly convey their collection of unique and exotic cars as a true museum. The first step in opening up the Museum started with obtaining a space fit to house the cars that they had, but a space that would also allow them to grow the collection. The facility that they bestowed upon was a past missile manufacturing facility on the campus of Raytheon Technologies. The building, coming in at a whopping 114,000 square feet, came with 17 acres of grounds. The building itself had to be reconfigured and constructed to support the Buerman’s then collection of 65 cars. The 17 acres was transformed into grounds that would allow for the Museum to hold varying events like car clubs and shows. That ground eventually also was turned into a free parking lot for visitors with the ability to hold up to 300 cars.

Now, the Museum’s exhibit encompasses over 80,000 square feet and consists of 85 cars in six various Galleries – Ford/Shelby, Corvettes, World Cars, Fin Cars, American Muscle and Mopars – with a Pop-Up Porsche Exhibit as well. Distinct enrichments that encompass the Museum include specially made artwork, historical videos and a collection of Mid-Century Modern furniture, which works as seating. The Museum even has a gift shop that contains various items made just for car lovers.

“The Museum is now sought out directly by those traveling to New England looking for experiences that mean something to them,” said Buerman on the significance of the Museum and its visitors. “Our audience is in large part car aficionados and art lovers. Some have travelled to see as many different car museums as they can in this country, and they tell us how amazed they are at what they find here. They appreciate the art gallery ambience, the beauty of the cars and the rich automotive history represented by each decade of design, starting with the early 1950s and finishing with new models from the 21st Century.”

The Newport Car Museum is open on a daily basis from 10-5. Tickets can be bought at the door of the Museum, or online at www.newportcarmuseum.org.

Regular admission: $18/adults; $15/Seniors, Military, Students; $8/Ages 5-15 (with an adult); Free/Ages 4 and under (with an adult)

CIAN DUCROT NEWEST RELEASE

RELEASES HIS DEBUT EP, MAKE BELIEVE

OUT NOW ON DARKROOM/INTERSCOPE RECORDS

CHOSEN AS ONE OF AMAZON MUSIC’S ‘ARTIST TO WATCH’ IN 2022!

RELEASES LIVE VISUALIZER FOR SINGLE “HAPPIER WITHOUT ME”

Praise for Cian Ducrot

“…rooted in a refreshing sense of honesty.” — CLASH

“Infectious and exactly what you need to listen to if you’re caught up in your ~ feels ~” — Ones To Watch

“A phenomenal songwriter” — Jack Saunders (BBC Radio 1)

Irish songwriter, producer and artist Cian Ducrot has released his debut EP titled Make Believe. Composed of eight emotively poignant tunes that spotlights Cian’s mastery in songwriting and melody making, Make Believe EP stands to be the young artist’s strongest foot forward in his debut year. This was also taken notice by Amazon Music who have included Cian in their ‘Artist to Watch in 2022’ programming. Each song delves into the deeply emotional renderings of Cian’s own past and present, allowing for anthemic ballads like “Make Believe” and “Not Usually Like This” while tracks like “Crocodiles” and “Hello Gorgeous” wrench the heart harder in its reflection.

Speaking about the EP, Cian says:

“Making this EP was a very strange but amazing process for me as half of the songs were written before I even knew I was making an EP. It’s been years in the making and pulls from so many moments in my life. I have loved discovering new directions and new music and also rediscovering old songs and bringing them to life and, most of all, discovering myself and what matters to me. Most of the EP was made throughout lockdown and the pandemic so it was a lot of days and nights alone and of course on the other side of the planet away from my team at Darkroom & Interscope.” — Cian Ducrot

In celebration of the EP’s release, Cian has also released a beautiful live visualizer for the EP single “Happier Without Me” — a track he teased on his many live shows across the U.K. and adored by many fans upon its performance.

Make Believe Tracklist — EP by Cian Ducrot

  1. Crocodiles
  2. Chewing Gum
  3. Not Usually Like This
  4. Make Believe
  5. Know Me Again
  6. Happier Without Me
  7. Hello Gorgeous
  8. Blue

With live shows on the horizon, more than 28 million artist streams to date, his first EP released via Darkroom/Interscope Records, and a place on Amazon Music’s ‘Artists To Watch 2022’ list, Cian Ducrot continues to grow as an artist ahead of a much anticipated breakout year in 2022

About Cian Ducrot

Raised in Cork and based in London but just as likely to be found recording in LA, Cian Ducrot takes a nomadic approach to pop music. Home for this 24-year-old singer, songwriter, producer and classically-trained multi-instrumentalist is wherever he happens to find his laptop and guitar — but no matter where he is. Growing up in a broken home, Cian sought relief in music, listening to his Mum playing everything from Bach to Chopin — often finding that music was a way to escape the trials of abuse, a turbulent family dynamic and more. It’s no surprise that he went on to focus on music in school, joining musicals, drama clubs, mastered different instruments and performing from a young age. Cian will eventually win a full scholarship to study classical flute at the Royal Academy of Music — one of the most prestigious performing arts schools in the world. Around the same time, Cian knew that to create original music he would have to teach himself how to produce. And so he did.

A couple of years into his schooling, Cian took a short trip to Los Angeles, CA — a trip that inspired him to pursue his dream of becoming a pop artist instead of a classical flautist. He decided to take a risk leaving his schooling (and the full ride scholarship that came with it) and moved back to Ireland to plan for his new dream. Cian was steadfast in his new writing journey, with money being tight he would often couch surf between London and L.A. The product of these experiences was his debut release; started in college (2020) — a mixtape that chronicles his unconventional road into the music industry. The risk ended up paying off when he was discovered by Darkroom/Interscope Records last Summer; promptly signed him to the label. Capitalizing on his natural talent and years of dedication, the Irish songwriter/producer and artist is at work on a new project and aims to showcase his diverse talents exploring revealing issues of love, loss, masculinity and frustration. Cian wishes to create music that listeners can relate to and find solace in – not unlike how a young Cian once did.

Summer House Season 6

BRAVO’S FAVORITE SUMMER CREW IS BACK WHEN “SUMMER HOUSE” RETURNS ON MONDAY, JANUARY 17 AT 9PM ET/PT

The temperature isn’t the only thing heating up this Summer! Bravo is heading back to the Hamptons for season six of “Summer House,” premiering on Monday, January 17 at 9pm ET/PT. After spending last summer quarantined together, the housemates are back to their regular routine of hustling during the week in NYC and spending their weekends out East with epic parties, dramatic love triangles and of course, rosé all day. Returning this summer are Lindsay Hubbard, Paige DeSorbo, Kyle Cooke, Amanda Batula, Carl Radke, Danielle Olivera, Ciara Miller and Luke Gulbranson. The housemates are joined by new friends Andrea Denver, Mya Allen and Alex Wach and special appearances are made throughout the season by Craig Conover and Austen Kroll of Bravo’s “Southern Charm. For a sneak peek, click here.

Coming up this season:

  • At a major crossroads in her life, the usually ambitious and determined Lindsay Hubbard is hesitant on what her next steps are. After being friend-zoned by Austen in Vermont, Lindsay continued to date Jason in the city until she experienced the biggest personal drama in her life yet. Unsure if she wants to continue things with Jason or date around this summer, Lindsay is confronted by some of her housemates that her “Hot Hubbs Summer” behavior might be getting a little too hot.
  • Paige DeSorbo is living her best life. Soon after leaving Vermont, her long-term crush Craig Conover became single and she doesn’t lose the opportunity to explore a potential relationship with him. However, upon entering the summer, Paige learns that her past-fling Andrea will also be joining the house and she is eager to see if their chemistry is still as hot as before. She is definitely smitten with both of these men… but after learning Craig might be hooking up with a well-known celebrity, she has no issues showing him that she has plenty of options of her own.
  • Last summer, Kyle Cooke and fiancé Amanda were doing better than ever, but living and working together for the past year has clearly taken its toll and the two hit their lowest point yet. Being that this is the last summer before he ties the knot, Kyle is determined to go big or go home. With many of the housemates already doubting their wedding will even happen, Kyle is forced to get his priorities in check or he could end up going home…alone.
  • Keeping busy by working and raising a litter of puppies, Amanda Batula has been doing everything and anything but wedding planning. With only a few weeks until the big day, her pre-wedding glow is dulled by her and Kyle’s continuous fighting and drama. Amanda is soon faced with the toughest decision of her life… either walk down the aisle or call off the engagement for good.
  • Carl Radke has become the best version of himself after a difficult summer last year.  His career is thriving and he is focusing on his physical and mental health by working out and meditating daily. Excited to explore a whole new world of sober dating with hopes of settling down, Carl has multiple potential romantic connections throughout the summer. Will he fall in love or fall apart?
  • Feeling like she was working too much and not having much control over her life, Danielle Olivera quit her corporate job to take a big risk, not only financially but personally. Although she and boyfriend Robert are still going strong, they have been finding it hard to put their relationship first and this summer could be what makes or breaks them.
  • After living in Georgia her entire life, Ciara Miller has applied for her New York nursing license and found an apartment in the city, but soon finds herself homesick. She has been dating a few different guys in New York, but is faced with a difficult decision when a love interest from her past visits the house.
  • Finally moved on from Ciara, Luke Gulbranson wants to have a summer filled with fun…and romance. No stranger to love-triangles, Luke finds himself getting pulled into different directions throughout the Summer and once again has his fair share of drama.
  • New to the Hamptons, but no stranger to this group of friends, Andrea Denver is excited to spend the summer with Paige. Soon after entering the house, he learns that she might have something romantically going on with someone he considered to be a close friend. And although his first instinct has always been to play the field, Andrea is determined more than ever to find the right girl to bring home to Italy.
  • Mya Allen, a restaurant consultant who runs a cookie business on the side, likes to keep things sweet. After breaking up with her long-term fiancé during quarantine, Mya joins her friend Paige for a summer she’ll never forget. She is taking her time to find her next man and wants to have fun and let loose…And what better place than in the Hamptons?
  • Born in Hong Kong, Alex Wach relocated to the United States as a child, and has lived in New York since he was 12. As a fitness instructor, Alex’s priorities include eating healthy, working out and looking good. Will he be able to keep up with this party crew?

“Summer House” is produced by Truly Original, with Steven Weinstock, Glenda Hersh, Lauren Eskelin, Jamie Jakimo, Trish Gold and Maggie Langtry serving as Executive Producers, and by Left Hook Media, with Matt Odgers and Scott Teti as Executive Producers. Liming and Phosphorous Increase Cassava Yields

Cassava is a woody, edible starchy root that provides an immense number of calories, carbohydrates, vitamins B and C and essential minerals. The plant is significant particularly in developing countries in the tropical and subtropical regions of Africa, Asia and the Americas due to its capability to withstand challenging growing conditions. Although Cassava is essential to specific regions of the globe, it has been used as a crucial source of calories for around a billion people everywhere.

In a new research study published in Agronomy Journal, researchers in Brazil explored hypothesized options for increasing cassava yields. Researchers found that adding both calcium and phosphorous to the soils of these plants would in return increase cassava yields. These found higher yields came with no correlation to increases in cooking times.

One of the main challenges that comes with growing cassava particularly in the tropics stems from the naturally acidic soils that are accompanied by low phosphorous convenience in those regions. Phosphorous is a heavily needed nutrient in plant growth. Through a process of liming, which is essentially adding calcium carbonate to the soils, nutrients like phosphorus organically becomes more available to plants. Liming also makes the plants affected less acidic, which is vital in the growth and production of edible cassava crops.

Though much was known about the process of liming, there was still a lot to uncover about the effects of the process on cassava crops. Adalton Fernandes, co-author of the new research study, states that “It was generally believed that adding calcium to the soil could increase cassava root cooking times… we showed that liming caused minimal changes to cassava cooking times.”

Liming was found, though, to increase cassava yields in the study when in blend with phosphorous fertilizers. Without liming and phosphorus fertilizers, cassava roots weighed about 270 grams – 9.5 ounces – on average. Assessments found that at top levels of liming and phosphorous fertilization, on average the roots weighed over 350 grams – more than 12 ounces. That adds up to over a 26% increase with the accumulation of liming and phosphorus.

The study lasted over the course of two years and was conducted on an experimental farm in Botucatu, Brazil. Experimental subjects were exposed to differing rates before the cassava planting. Half of the subjects received no phosphorous fertilizers. Researchers added about 70 kilograms – converted to 155 lbs – of phosphorous fertilizer to the other subjects.

Differing features of the cassava plants were assessed based on growth with or without liming and phosphorous. These characteristics that were measured included number of roots per plant, root length, root weight and cooking times.

It was found that the addition of phosphorous increased the number of roots per plant by around 8%. Root lengths did not change substantially with liming nor phosphorous fertilization. Cassava root yields were increased by 22% with phosphorous application and 28% with liming. Cooking times increased by only 6% – less than 2 minutes – with liming. The slight increase in cooking time balances out by the large increase in yields. Fernandes states, “This small increase in cooking time is no reason for cassava farmers to not apply lime.”

An untested hypothesis that phosphorous fertilizers could lower cooking time in cassava roots was ultimately disapproved by Fernandes. Fernandes states, “we observed that phosphorus-fertilized cassava roots did not cook faster. So, phosphorus fertilization is not a recommended or viable way to reduce cooking times for cassava roots.”

Fernandes and his team are still looking to further research with differing varieties of cassava. “Will the amounts of lime and phosphorus fertilizer needed be the same for other varieties of cassava?” asks Fernandes. This poses an imperative question because varying types of cassava may have different reactions to the processes of liming and fertilization.
