ASHS CONFRONTS TURBULENT RELATIONSHIP

ASHS is back with her new single “Without You” via Wax Records/ Casablanca Records/Universal Music Canada. “Without You” is a poignant look at a duplicitous relationship, with cutting lyrics: “Boy you say you love me but it’s only for pretend though. F*** your stupid games, you play my heart like a Nintendo.”

“Without You” follows the debut EP 3AM, which included the viral sensation “More Than Friends” (peaked at #4 on the Spotify US Viral Chart).

“’Without You’ is about that moment when the smoke clears and you’re finally able to acknowledge that the person you were with wasn’t as good for you as you first thought,” said ASHS. “It’s the realization that you have put in more than you got out, and that you just need to take a step back and breathe. The feeling of numbness and uncertainty of what life is now going to be like without that person. That first breath of air.”

LEMAITRE RELEASE “LITTLE THINGS”

Lemaitre release their new track, Little Things today via Astral werks, available to stream/download here. The Norwegian-born, Los Angeles-based electronic duo recorded the song as a b-side to complement their latest single, Big, out now.
To me this is a melancholic track about hope and hopelessness, and maybe some regret. And that if you find yourself down, it will eventually pass. said Ulrik.
Fresh off their performance at the Austin City Limits Festival, Lemaitre will kick off their North American headline tour on November 28, with show at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles. Dates will also include The Crocodile in Seattle, the Wonder Ballroom in Portland and a December 15 concert at New York City’s Gramercy Theatre. Tickets are available at http://www.lemaitremusic.com. See below for full itinerary.
VMAN praises their uber- catchy melodies and shimmering new wave synths and deems Big an anthemic, slow-churning electro-rock tune that’s very reminiscent of the Beatles and reflects a more organic and instrumental approach to their glossy sound. Watch the accompanying video here.
Earmilk said, Lemaitre is a name you should already be acquainted with and NPR has praised their bouncy rhythms and catchy hooks. The FADER found favor with Lemaitre’s sun-kissed nu disco and Stereogum touted their steadily-growing amount of pop clout.
The duo, which formed in Oslo, Norway in 2010, takes its name from Georges Lematire, the Belgian priest and astronomer known for introducing the Big Bang theory. Signed to Astralwerks in 2014, Lemaitre has released five dance-oriented EPs, a remix collection, two short form releases and the long-form compilation Chapter One. The latter included Closer feat. vocalist Jennie A. and Higher featuring Maty Noyes. Cumulative worldwide streams of Lemaitre’s music exceed 200 million. Their songs have been featured in global campaigns for Google, Apple, Facebook, FIFA 2017, Skyy Vodka, PayPal, Tropicana, Infiniti, Hugo Boss, AT&T and more.

Pirelli Showcases The Evolution Of Ferrari GT Tires

Six era-defining sports cars, six of their racing variants, and six competition tires that were built especially for them: the story of the Ferrari Challenge covers 26 years and some of the most important models ever to come from Maranello, whose competition variants have made up Ferrari’s celebrated one-make series. This is territory that Pirelli knows well, having been the exclusive tire supplier to the Ferrari Challenge ever since the championship made its debut. This presented an important opportunity for Pirelli to study new concepts in extreme conditions – as is always the case in motorsport, among eager gentlemen drivers – but based on road-going cars, with the same characteristics and dynamics. The Ferrari Challenge was born in 1993 and since then more than 1000 drivers have taken part. The number of tires used has been simply incalculable. This is also because the Ferrari Challenge has expanded from the European series to Asia and the United States: a whole world of gentlemen drivers, each at the wheel of a Ferrari equipped with Pirelli tires.

CARS AND TIRES: THE HISTORY OF THE FERRARI CHALLENGE

The very first car that got the one-make series underway was the Ferrari 348 Challenge. It was derived from the 1989 348 TB and TS, carrying over the road car’s 3.5-liter V8 engine that put out 320 horsepower. Compared to the road-going version, the 348 Challenge car wasn’t extensively modified, but it did wear slick tires that were especially developed by Pirelli. The very first Ferrari Challenge tire was a 17-inch slick with different sizes at front and rear (245/620-17 and 265/640-17 respectively). Just like the car, the tires also had a strong link with their road-going equivalents: to make them, Pirelli used the normal P Zero moulds, but with a specific construction and compounds.

The 348 drove its last races in 1996, alongside the new 355 Challenge car. This was also a direct descendant of its road-going equivalent, including the 380-horsepower engine that was identical to the road car. The safety devices needed for competition and bespoke Pirelli tires made it different though. The Italian firm made its first 18-inch tires for Ferrari’s one-make series: a size that would remain for more than 10 years.

In 2000, the third car to be used on the Ferrari Challenge made its debut: the 360 Challenge, which was based on the 360 Modena. It had the same power as the road car (400 horsepower) but less weight.  The 360 Challenge car underwent some important modifications the following year, with increased 415 horsepower. The tires were required to perform better as well, but the generation of Pirelli tires that was born with the 355 was still more than capable of responding to the demands of cars and drivers, which meant that only new tire sizes and compounds were introduced.

The 430 Challenge marked an important new step for the one-make series: while it put out the same 490 horsepower of the road car, it was adapted thanks also to the lessons that Ferrari had learned in Formula 1. For example, it boasted the first carbon ceramic braking system of any Ferrari competition car, so the tires also needed some important modifications. The first 19-inch tires were made, both as slicks and wets, but these became ‘full wet’ tires for the first time, with a specific full wet tread pattern.

In 2010, the acclaimed Ferrari 458 Italia formed the base of the latest Challenge car, taking to the track with the same 570 horsepower as the road car but weighing 100 kilograms lighter and with specific engine mapping and a competition exhaust. There was also an electronic rear differential that required the tires to work in parallel with it.  Pirelli adapted the tire dimensions and compound, while maintaining the same wheel size.

Turbocharging came to the Ferrari Challenge in 2016 with the arrival of the 488 Challenge: the first time that a turbo engine had ever been seen on the championship in 25 years. There was a 100-horsepower increase compared to the 458, while the lap time round Fiorano was improved by a second. Pirelli developed new tire sizes for the 488 Challenge to cope with the car’s extra performance.

Theo Mayer, who manages Pirelli’s Ferrari Challenge program, said: “It’s an excellent opportunity for Pirelli to work alongside Ferrari on the Challenge. Alongside the professional drivers there are also gentlemen drivers: amateurs who have other real world commitments on top of racing. The tires are always developed in parallel with the car, one year before the Challenge is officially launched, enhancing drivability and performance for drivers at every level. The objective of these developments has been to maximize performance, using the latest technical innovations from Pirelli’s renowned motorsport department. This helps to make the tires more driveable in all dry conditions. For rainy conditions, a specific full wet tire has been developed. Now that we are entering the 26th year of our partnership, our next objective will be to celebrate half a century together.”

Gab Strum “Fooling Around”

Gab Strum was 15 years old and on a tediously long family vacation with nothing to do but listen to Tycho and The Postal Service, when he opened his iPad and discovered Garageband and began building loops and messing with different sounds, creating music under the moniker, Japanese Wallpaper. When he was back from his holiday, he threw a song up on Triple J’s Unearthed website and Gab took home the top prize in the coveted “Unearthed High” competition, and was propelled into the spotlight.

His debut EP has since gone on to garner 20 million streams and found fans in Charli XCX, Flume, Gotye, Lily Allen, Chet Faker and Bombay Bicycle Club. His song, “Breathe In” was personally selected by Zach Braff to feature alongside indie luminaries like Bon Iver, The Shins and Cat Power in his highly acclaimed filmed and soundtrack Wish I Was Here, with his other tracks finding their way into scenes of shows like Offspring (Netflix), Catfish: The TV Show (MTV), Awkward (MTV), Made In Chelsea (E4) and Scream: The TV Series (MTV). He’s also garnered attention from NME, i-D Vice, HillyDilly, Indie Shuffle, EARMILK, Hype Machine and more.

Now 21 years old, the Melbourne based artist returns with, “Fooling Around” a hopeful track with a dizzying spell of synths and saccharine melodies, with textures of electronica layered over a lyrical narrative that sees Gab sing of self-confidence. The song is a call to arms to anyone who has ever felt the need to assert themselves, and the forthcoming record is a further exploration of that theme, with an introspective look into Gab’s own journey of identity. “It’s about me finding my place, and figuring out who I am and what I want to do, and how that functions in the world.
