WunderLocke unveils design-led Rooftop & Penthouse Suites

Located in Sendling, Munich, newly opened aparthotel WunderLocke by pioneering lifestyle brand Locke, has unveiled its seventh floor rooftop suites and impressive Penthouse Suites. The 360-apartment destination is ideally located in the up-and-coming neighbourhood of Sendling and brings a hospitality concept like no other to the Bavarian capital. WunderLocke provides suites for leisure and business travellers alike, offering eleven one-bedroom open plan suites, three two-bedroom penthouse suites, and the WunderLocke Penthouse Suite.

The design of the seventh-floor suites was overseen by renowned interior architects Holloway Li who took advantage of the striking views of the alps. The impressive 126sqm WunderLocke Penthouse Suite boasts an expansive stand-alone bathtub, offering guests the ultimate relaxation. The colour scheme throughout is anchored by natural earth tones and rich botanical greens, with biophilic insertions and natural materials creating a feeling of serenity. Munich-based multidisciplinary artist Monika Morito was also commissioned to paint a small mural in sunset tones which features in the space. In addition, the WunderLocke Penthouse Suite features its own private terrace complete with a jacuzzi configured to maximise and amplify its unique setting, while the 100sqm Two Bedroom Penthouse Suite features spectacular city views. Both penthouse suites also feature separate living quarters, an eight-person dining table, and two king-size beds in two separate bedrooms. In signature Locke style, both penthouse suites include a fully-equipped kitchen complete with a microwave oven, dishwasher, washer/dryer and cooking gear.

This was our first opportunity to design Penthouse suites for Locke and we were spoiled by the panoramic views the building afforded. Our design scheme for the penthouses chimed with the overall concept for WunderLocke, both paying homage to the heritage of the host building by retaining the exposed concrete shell and using natural materials as well as a thoughtful colour palette and greenery to provide a fitting counterpoint to the machine-age setting of the space. We hope the spaces provide both a sense of renewal as well as a connection to the wonderful surrounding city.”- Alex Holloway, Creative Director and Co-Founder of Holloway Li.

For the seventh-floor suites, Holloway Li mirrored the landscape of the alps in the distance to the lateral flow of the apartments. The 31m² Rooftop One Bedroom Open Plan Suites are complete with rooftop terraces, living spaces and fully equipped kitchens complete with dining tables and more.

For The WunderLocke Penthouse Suite and the Rooftop One Bedroom Open Plan Suites  featuring splendid terraces, Holloway Li worked with artist Claire de Quénetain to create bespoke fabrics for each of the external terrace loungers; her painterly illustrations take inspiration from natural settings and provide the perfect counterpoint to the building’s industrial past.

All seventh floor suites along with the WunderLocke Penthouse Suite feature Locke’s signature perks, including air conditioning, a power shower with Kinsey Apothecary toiletries, blackout curtains, private, superfast Wi-Fi, a Smart HDTV with Chromecast, a separate living area and a fully-equipped kitchen, microwave oven, dishwasher, washer/dryer. The urban roof garden, opening in Spring 2023, will also be accessible from the seventh floor.

WunderLocke’s size and location allowed us to really expand on our suite offerings, providing a private sanctuary for our guests where they can enjoy an elevated experience in our spectacular suites with unrivalled views of the alps and city.” Eric Jafari, Chief Development Officer & Creative Director, edyn.

Lifestyle aparthotel brand Locke opened WunderLocke in July 2022, continuing its European expansion. The property includes 360 spacious design-led apartments, a large co-working area, meeting and event spaces as well as an outdoor heated swimming pool, sauna and workout studio and a food and drink concept unparalleled in Germany in the form of ‘Mural Farmhouse’: five food and drink destinations spread across seven floors conceived by the founders of revered local Michelin-starred restaurant, Mural.

The Two Bedroom Penthouse Suite starts from €450, the WunderLocke Penthouse Suite starts from €520, the Two Bedroom Suites starts from €275 and the Rooftop One Bedroom Open Plan Suites starts from €150.

The Richest Under 30: Sam Bankman-Fried

29-year-old Sam Bankman-Fried has made his mark in the world of crypto, rising to prosperity in such a short period of time as comparable to that of Austin Russell’s Luminar. But how exactly did he do it?

Sam Bankman-Friend is the son of two Stanford Law School professors who graduated with a degree in physics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2014. Following his graduation from university, Sam worked for Jane Street trading ETFs from 2014 to 2017.

He created his first liquid crypto market business in 2017, more commonly known as Alameda Research.

In an interview with Forbes, he discussed the purpose behind the company, stating, “We saw that crypto was exhibiting all the signs that there would be a lot of demand for liquidity but with very little liquidity available. Everyone on the street was talking about crypto during that time.

“We were seeing huge price movements and inflows which clearly pointed to a lot of people from many different countries trying to buy many different varieties of crypto currencies using different acquisition methods. Despite how big it had become, it still had only been a few months. This meant that there had not been enough time for most of the buyers globally to onboard into the crypto ecosystem.”

Then, in April of 2019, Sam co-founded FTX, the cryptocurrency essentially “built by traders, for traders.”

FTX is primarily used by consumers to trade spot, futures, stock, leverage tokens and Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTS). The objective of FTX is “to develop a platform robust enough for professional trading firms and intuitive enough for first-time users.”

In 2021 alone, FTX brought in $900 million from companies like Coinbase Ventures and Softbank, attributable to an $18 billion estimate, following another $25 billion valuation in October.

This success amounts to how Sam was able to make the Forbes 30 Under 30 Hall of Fame, naming him the wealthiest person in the world under 30. His net worth as of February 5, 2022, sits at $24.5 billion.

Portions of this revenue has been flowed into marketing for the company, as the FTX serves as “the official cryptocurrency exchange of the MLB.” FTX was noticeably seen throughout the World Series in signs, commercials and even patches on the umpires’ uniforms.

The company, too, houses the Miami Heat as the play in the FTX Arena. The rise of Sam’s business has been exponential, so much that he is richest person to have obtained wealth so rapidly behind Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook.

What does the richest person under 30 plan to do with all this money?

Well, Sam prides himself on being a believer of “effective altruism,” a practice that involves making large amounts money to, in return, be donated back to boost one’s own influence.

One of his primary donations went towards the push for the removal of former US President Donald Trump from office. Sam donated a whopping $5.2 million to the Joe Biden campaign, which was the second greatest donation to the campaign following past New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

FTX Foundation contributes 1% of all net fees to active organizations around the world, while Sam himself has donated 0.1% of his own to issues surrounding voter registration, global poverty relief and artificial intelligence security.

VIDAS: Deep in Mexico and Spain

ADVENTURE AWAITS IN THIS NEW COMING-OF-AGE TRAVEL MEMOIR

“VIDAS: Deep in Mexico and Spain”

A Tribute to The Glorious Diversity of Our Worlds

Shortly after the American ministers of hate started demonizing the people of Mexico, New York Times Best-Selling Author Edward Stanton began writing about his own wide experience living in that country, confounding the bigots and their bogeys, showing the real women, men, and children he knew there. When the coronavirus struck Spain last year, he decided to include that country as a homage to it and its people, whom he also knew and loved.

This is how VIDAS: Deep in Mexico and Spain was born.

A wayward descendant of Mexico’s national hero, a femme fatale who recites poems in cantinas, a Tunisian prostitute in Barcelona, a Spanish psychiatrist who fights brave bulls, the wise owner of the world’s oldest restaurant. They are just a handful of the characters portrayed in VIDAS: Deep in Mexico and Spain, the first memoir to capture Mexico and Spain from the perspective of an American and the knowledge of an insider.

VIDAS explores subjects as diverse as the art of blasphemy, the cult of the Virgin Mary, superstition and witchcraft, the bordellos of Mexico, Spain’s paradise of drink and food, the bullfight, and the running of bulls in Pamplona, the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela. Every chapter of this vibrant travel memoir depicts a different person or place, which combined create a cross-section of the most populous Spanish-speaking countries in the New and Old World. VIDAS is a passage from childhood to adolescence and maturity, a tribute to nature and the open road, an exaltation of love, food, and wine, a journey from the tender, mortal flesh to the luminous world of the spirit.

Marijuana illustration by Heather Skovlund for 360 Magazine

Honest Marijuana Company

In the old days of illegal weed, the price you paid for your weekend toke depended mostly on who was selling it to you. These were behind-the-scenes transactions, with no recourse for a deal gone bad and no way to price compare with a competitor. You paid the price asked or you went without.

Now, as state legalization grows and the chatter about federal legalization becomes less talk and more reality, the game has changed forever for the buyer. So, it’s a good time to be clear on what you’re paying for before you go to your local cannabis boutique, or even the corner store, if you should be so lucky to have marijuana available for sale there!

First off, price comparing starts with quantity

If you want to look at what your weed is going to cost you, and even compare different strains, it’s best to pick a quantity. From state to state, the price of quantity X will vary, based on factors we’ll discuss later, but for now, it’s important to understand what quantities you can order in.

The most common quantities you can buy cannabis in are a gram, eighth of an ounce, quarter of an ounce, half an ounce, and a full ounce. Notice how the common quantities mix metric and Imperial measuring units? A gram is 1/1000th of a kilogram and an ounce is 1/16th of a pound. Typically, you’ll find that dispensaries will use ounces for larger quantities, and grams for a smaller purchase.

What does a gram look like? It’s about the size of a bottle cap, which gives you a visual point of reference to figure out what you’re getting for what price. The average joint is about 0.7 grams of weed so a gram will give you about 1.5 joints. Here are the other measurements, to give you a rough idea of what you’re getting:

  • An eighth of an ounce (which is roughly 3.5 grams) will give you just about 5 joints.
  • A quarter of an ounce (7 grams) will net about 10 joints.
  • A half an ounce (14 grams) will give you about 20 joints.
  • A full ounce (28 grams) is just about equal to 40 joints.

From Alaska to West Virginia, that price per ounce of medium quality weed can run anywhere from $6 to $12.

Quality is the next factor

If you look at average prices of weed across the country, they’re pretty stable and typically refer to medium quality cannabis. When you want to compare a gram of cannabis from one shop to another, a major increase in price could be because of the quality of the product.

For example, an organic and locally indoor grown variety might be more expensive than a mass produced, imported one. You really do have to compare apples to apples, if you want to be sure you’re getting the right picture.

Other factors that will influence the price of weed

Your state’s legal stance toward cannabis

If you live in a state where cannabis isn’t legal in any form, obviously you’re still operating in the old ways of quiet deals made with people who don’t really care to negotiate the prices they feel like charging. After all, they risk going to jail for providing you with your ‘chill’ so there’s a premium attached to that.

In the states that have legalized recreational marijuana (Alaska, California, Colorado, Maine, Massachusetts, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington), you’ll find competition higher and prices that reflect that.

The remaining twenty-one states that have legalized medical marijuana require a doctor’s note to obtain it, which isn’t a particularly challenging hurdle in most places, so this doesn’t affect the prices too significantly.

One place where cannabis is particularly expensive? Washington D.C. Despite legalization of medical and recreational use, they didn’t legalize the purchase of cannabis. That little detail is reflected in prices that are almost twice the national average for legalized / decriminalized states!

The physical geography of where you live

Cannabis isn’t an overly fussy plant to cultivate but it does prefer warm, stable temperatures, averaging in the daytime around 80 degrees. Places that have daytime temperatures that run hotter than 88 degrees or colder than 60 degrees have a harder time growing—it’s a slower process—and can end up with plants that have lower THC content and therefore lower overall quality.

So, if you live in Alaska or New Hampshire, for example, your weed has most likely been brought in from elsewhere, which means added costs in transportation and labor, to package and ship.

How your weed is grown

How your preferred brand is grown makes a difference on quality.

  • Are they grown outdoors where light, water, soil, and ambient daytime temperatures are all free for the asking and therefore don’t add to the cost of production?
  • Are they grown indoors, where special electrical lighting, watering and feed systems, and climate control are all required and add to the cost of production?

Outdoor grown weed can be lower quality in that there aren’t many ways to control Mother Nature. Being able to control elements through technology can yield a higher quality product. From pest and humidity control to very specific watering schedules, as well as the use of light waves to maximize growth and intensity, indoor growers have the keys to control quality in ways that outdoor growers really cannot.

Factor in also whether the grower is using organic production methods, as this will definitely yield a higher quality product. No toxins from pesticides means a cleaner experience for you.

Where you buy your marijuana

Are you buying from a boutique dispensary or a corner store? Are you buying from a chain of cannabis stores or from a one-man dealer? Which way you go will affect the price you pay.

Dispensaries have overhead and staff to pay, which adds to the cost. However, they also have guidelines to follow in terms of packaging and labeling, as well as a vested interest in pleasing their customer, so they’re a good bet. You will know exactly what you’re getting, including the sourcing, THC content, whether it’s organic or not and so on. If you buy from a dealer, who is claiming to sell high quality products, you have no guarantees whatsoever that they are telling the truth.

Competitors drive the price down

Supply and demand is an easy equation. If there are several dispensaries with similar offerings in your area, the price per gram will be lower than in an area with no competition for your one dispensary. There is less supply for potentially similar demand, which can easily affect the price. The key as a consumer is to know your average pricing so you can tell whether or not you are getting a good deal.

Taxation and legalization go hand in hand

The states that have legalized marijuana have also clued in that it is an important revenue source. Sales tax, if the state has one, is applied to cannabis too. The rate can be higher for weed than for other products, as it is in Colorado. They have a state sales tax rate of 2.9% but the rate for weed? 10%.

In addition to sales tax, legal sellers are faced with taxes in production, purchasing, packing and transportation, costs that are typically downloaded to the end consumer.

The timing of your purchases

Time of year can impact the price of weed. Like most cultivated crops, the largest amounts are harvested in and around the month of September. Result? The supply is up, and prices should go down a little.

As legalization continues to expand, state to state and even federally, the pricing will become more standard and easier to predict. At that point, the quality of the weed will be the big differentiator and as the end consumer, that’s not a small factor to consider. Buy with care and enjoy yourself!

Jeep Cherokee vs Wrangler: A Comparative Guide

You’re looking to buy a new vehicle; in particular, you’re interested in buying a Jeep. However, you’re wondering: what wins the battle of Jeep Cherokee vs. Wrangler?

Sure, the Jeep Wrangler has that classic Jeep look, but the Cherokee’s performance is right on par. Not to mention, the Cherokee offers more cargo space. The comparison is close, to say the least.

Alas, it’s for this reason that we’re going to examine the two in detail below to demonstrate how they measure up. Read on to find out which vehicle is right for you.

Exterior

The exteriors of the Jeep Cherokee and Wrangler have similarities. For instance, their grilles are almost identical. But overall, they’re very different looking vehicles.

The Wrangler has more of a traditional Jeep look. It’s boxy, it’s angular, and it’s risen quite a bit off of its wheels.

The Cherokee, on the other hand, has more of an SUV look. This is to say that it’s sleeker, more rounded, and sits relatively close to the wheels.

There’s no clear winner in this department. Aesthetic preferences are primarily subjective, after all. So, give a look at both and see which one fits your preferences.

Interior

As far as their interiors go, the Cherokee and Wrangler are essentially the same. At their max they provide 5 seats, all of which possess ample head and leg room. Note that the Wrangler comes with a 4-seat model, as well.

Each vehicle is available with a variety of trims. So, whether you want cloth leather upholstery, you can get either.

Both vehicles provide ample storage space, along with a variety of storage compartments. We should also note that both have fold down back seats, which allows for even more storage space.

Suspension

Next, we’ll discuss each vehicle’s suspension. Simply put, the Jeep Wrangler’s suspension performance is better for off-roading than the Cherokee’s. It sits higher, is better equipped to absorb shocks, and can easily handle rough and rocky terrains.

Now, this isn’t to say that the Cherokee’s suspension can’t handle off-roading. Quite the contrary–in fact; it’s one of the best off-roading SUVs in existence. But if you’re buying a vehicle specifically for off-roading purposes, the Jeep Wrangler is the better option.

Power

You’re probably curious about each vehicle’s power capabilities. Though they’re available in a variety of trims, each of which has its own capabilities. Overall, the Cherokee is the more powerful vehicle. Its weakest trim still produces up to 293HP, with its most powerful trim reaching an astounding 707 HP.

In comparison, the Wrangler produces between 260 and 285 HP. This is plenty powerful for most purposes, but falls short overall. Whereas the Cherokee can tow between 3,500 and 7,200 lbs, the Wrangler tows only between 2,000 and 3,500 lbs.

So, in essence, the Cherokee is more of a towing vehicle. If you’re looking for something to haul a trailer with, opt for the Cherokee over the Wrangler.

Fuel Efficiency

When it comes to fuel efficiency, both vehicles are relatively comparable. However, the Cherokee is a more fuel-efficient vehicle than the Wrangler.

The 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee gets 31 miles to the gallon on the highway and 23 miles to the gallon in the city. The 2020 Wrangler gets 29 miles to the gallon on the highway and 22 miles to the gallon in the city.

These are efficient numbers for both vehicles. Whether you’re traveling long distances or staying close to home, you won’t be burning much gas.

Safety

Next, we’ll discuss safety. On the whole, both vehicles are quite safe. They were each awarded 4 out of 5 stars by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

So, while there are vehicles that provide a greater level of safety, these are considered sufficient.

Note, each is available with a variety of safety features. These include blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-path detection, lane departure warning, and electronic stability control, to name just a few.

Warranty

These vehicles’ warranties are similar, but have some nuances. Both come with a 3 year, 36,000-mile standard warranty.

However, the two cars’ powertrain warranties differ. Whereas the Cherokee has a 5 year, 60,000-mile powertrain warranty, the Wrangler has a 5 year, 100,000-mile powertrain warranty.

Recreation

Perhaps the biggest difference between the Wrangler and the Cherokee is in their recreational capabilities. Whereas the Cherokee is a fairly straightforward SUV with an above-average suspension system, the Wrangler is a vehicle practically designed for recreation.

Its most notable features are its takeaway roof and removable doors. They can both be taken off as desired, making the vehicle something of a convertible. Whether you need to bundle up for winter or let the sun in during the summertime, a Wrangler will serve you well.

Price

Both the Cherokee and the Wrangler come in many different trims. These trims are available at a wide variety of prices. The more features you add, the more you can expect to pay.

For comparison’s sake, let’s discuss the costs of their base trims. The base trim for the 2020 Cherokee MSRPs sits at $25,840. The base trim for the 2020 Wrangler MSRPs totals $28,295.

Both of these costs are comparable to similar vehicles on the market. So, there’s no reason to let their price dissuade you.

Jeep Cherokee vs Wrangler: A Battle With No Clear Winner

When it comes to the battle of Jeep Cherokee vs. Wrangler, there is no clear winner. Both vehicles have their fair share of positive attributes, along with a few drawbacks as well. In the end, it’s all about assessing your specific needs and preferences, and then choosing a vehicle that best suits them.

In any case, owning a Jeep can be quite beneficial. They perform terrifically both on-road and off-road, making them some of the most versatile vehicles in existence.

The Iconic Men’s Shoes You Will Want to Own Today

When it comes to shoes, there are some brands that have stood the test of time. Timberland, Nike, Converse and adidas all have iconic kicks that have been gracing our feet for decades.

Here, we give you a run down of the most iconic men’s shoes of all time, which are all still available today.

The Timberland Boots

The first Timberland boots were released in 1973, and they are still a bestseller today. As a boot fit for both work and play, it is the versatility of the Timberland that has kept them in the spotlight.

They are soft and made of quality materials. With a waterproof leather upper and lug rubber outsole, Timberland boots are not only stylish, but they’re also comfortable — and something every man should have in his collection. These boots do come in a few different colors, but the tan hue is at the top of our list. While Timberlands have always been iconic, hip hop artists such as Kanye West have taken them to the next level of cool.

The Nike Air Max Sneakers

When you own a pair of Nike Air Max kicks, they will be so much more than a typical pair of sneakers. First released in 1987, these retro shoes come in just about any color scheme you can imagine. Known for the cushioned base and that “window to the sole,” the brand wanted to show fans the air that was hidden inside. The idea to pump up the sole with air originally came from Frank Rudy, an aeronautical engineer who had experience with NASA.

Each season we see small changes to the Nike Air Max range, but they still have that ’80s bounce we all know and love.

The Converse Chuck Taylors

Another shoe that is rich in history is the Converse Chuck Taylor All-Stars. These basketball babes were first invented in 1917, but Chuck Taylor wasn’t completely satisfied with the design.

He asked for more support in 1922, and they have been an icon ever since. Converse shoes come in different cuts, but we really can’t go past the high tops. They can be worn with any outfit, and really do scream retro fashion. Whether it is black, white or red, it’s that star that will keep these legends popular well into the future.

The Adidas Originals Superstar

Another shoe that we have been coveting for 50 years is the Adidas Originals Superstar. Its rubber shell toe cap and flexibility made it a direct competitor against Converse in the basketball market.

Adidas is a pop culture favorite, and while the Superstar may have started as a basketball shoe, it now has its place on the street. The 80s’ hip hop scene helped propel this shoe into the spotlight, as Run DMC proudly wore the three stripes

An Iconic Shoe Is a Must-Have

Shoes aren’t just for working and running, they can be the finishing touch to your look. Some shoes are made to be worn for life, and a pair of Timberlands, Nike Airs, Adidas Originals or Converse Chuck Taylor’s have long-term appeal.

No matter what the season or the occasion, these iconic shoes will be there to make a statement. Plus, they are all made with comfort and support in mind.

D.C.’s Beau Young Prince Drops New Single and Video

Washington, DC rapper Beau Young Prince, whose cool demeanor leveled his hometown audience at last weekend’s Trillectro Festival, has released “Price– the hotly awaited follow-up to his debut single “Kill Moe.”

His first EP, Groovy Land will be released on October 5th via Def Jam Recordings and includes a remix of “Kill Moe” featuring Shy Glizzy.

About the Artist..

Beau Young Prince, a self-described “Southside kid with a North Side education” bred in urban Southeast DC, attended one of the highest ranked private schools in the Northern part of the city.  “I was given a really unique experience,” he speaks of that duality.  “I have the ability to combine both worlds where most people can’t.”

BYP’s training on classical and jazz upright bass was tempered by an eclectic playlist of sounds at home, from Marvin Gaye and Curtis Mayfield to A Tribe Called Quest and André 3000, from Lenny Kravitz and Bad Brains to DC’s legendary Go-Go scene.  As a teen he hit local talent shows, open mics, and rap battles, even burning CDs that he sold on the street.  A graduate of Guilford College in Greensboro, NC, BYP kept the music going, hitting the Soundcloud wave early on, and performing three years in a row at the SXSW Music Conference.

In 2016, Beau Young Prince grabbed over a million streams with “Half & Half Tea” (Top 50 Viral U.S. Spotify chart, and Spotify Most Necessary playlist), off his critically acclaimed project Until Then, produced by longtime friend, New York City producer Yalamusiq.  A year later, BYP connected with French producer YMNO for the Young Futura project.  BYP’s subsequent release of his Sunset Blvd EP ensured that he was destined for greatness. Def Jam A&R soon caught the vibe as the DC star finally won his seat at the table.
