SG LEWIS’ 2022 NORTH AMERICAN TOUR

Following the release of his new double A-Side single, ‘Missing You’ / ‘Something About Your Love, London-based singer-songwriter, producer and DJ, SG Lewis, has announced a new run of North American Tour dates. The 20-date tour will kick off October 6 in Boston, making stops in BrooklynWashington DCTorontoChicagoAtlantaDallasSalt Lake CityLos AngelesSeattle and more, before concluding in Portland, OR on November 12.

Speaking about getting back out on the road, SG Lewis reveals, “After years of tentative touring and cautious planning, I’m unbelievably excited to finally announce my first full US tour since 2019. I’m buzzing to be playing in some cities I’ve wanted to visit for so long, and so excited to bring you a completely new live show.

The local presale begins tomorrow, Wednesday July 13th at 10 AM, through Thursday July 14th at 10 PM local time, followed by an exclusive Spotify Presale on Thursday, 10 AM – 10 PM local time. Tickets go on sale to the general public starting Friday, July 15th at 10 AM local time. For a full list of upcoming live dates and to purchase tickets, please visit www.sglewismusic.com.

These headlining dates will follow his previously announced live shows this summer, including his return to the beloved Palm Springs pool party festival Splash House on Saturday, August 13, and festival performances at Life Is Beautiful Festival in Las Vegas (TICKETS) on Friday, September 16 and the Portola Festival in San Francisco (TICKETS) on Sunday September 25.

Last week, SG Lewis returned with two brand new singles: the nocturnal dancefloor-filler ‘Missing You‘ and the italo-influenced anthem ‘Something About Your Love.’ Right out of the gate, ‘Missing You,’ which The FADER hailed as an “80s synth-rave carried on the back of a snappy Linn drum-sprinkled beat that would make Starboy-era The Weeknd salivate,” reaches for dancefloor glory with its shimmering synths and neon bass line, nodding to eighties new wave with a chantable chorus, “I’m not missing you like I’m supposed to.” On the flip side, ‘Something About Your Love‘ fuses a funk-inflected bass line and tambourine with a luminous refrain. The release was celebrated by Dancing Astronaut, who said “Altogether, Missing You / Something About Your Love affirms SG Lewis‘ status as a musical auteur with a knack for merging the sounds of earlier decades with today’s sonics in an ever novel, dance floor-facing fashion.” Both tracks are available to buy/stream as a double A-side single today via Astralwerks.

Listen to ‘Missing You / Something About Your Love’ HERE.

Ushering in a brand-new chapter, the 70s and 80s have provided a rich seam of inspiration for contemporary artists like SG Lewis (real name Sam Lewis) and nowhere is this more potent than today’s releases. Missing You‘ illuminates Lewis‘ unmatched ability to take underground club music somewhere fresh and towards a new generation and reaches for dancefloor glory with its shimmering synths and neon bass line, nodding to eighties new wave in timeless pop ecstasy. On the other end of the spectrum, the Daft Punk inspired Something About Your Love‘ showcases 70s-era drums, a funk-inflected bass hook, disco-styled groove, and a luminous refrain. Both tracks are classic but deeply contemporary cuts with one suited to the adrenaline rush of your wildest night out, and the other to the blissful ride home at sunrise. This duality is a theme that permeates SG Lewis‘ new era.

Speaking about ‘Missing You,‘ SG Lewis reveals, “Conceptually, it felt like the perfect introduction. It’s a story about temptation and dwindling fear. Your eyes are wandering.” On ‘Something About Your Love,’ SG adds “It’s no secret I’m a massive Daft Punk fan. It’s the closest thing I’ve ever made to a tribute to them. I was listening to Discovery a lot, and there’s a specific technique to it. I chopped up the sample of these seventies keys and drums. It came together easily. Lyrically, It’s a pure confession of admiration for someone. It’s the perfect contrast to ‘Missing You’.

The new tracks follow on from Sam’s debut record times, released during lockdown last year, which found one of modern pop’s secret weapons stepping out front and center, taking listeners on a voyage through soaring electronic dance and kaleidoscopic future disco with a blockbuster collection of guests. Features included Robyn and Channel Tres on ‘Impact‘ (“a house track so physical your feet may begin to move involuntarily,” according to NPR), Nile Rodgers on ‘One More‘ and Lucky Daye on fan favorite Feed The Fire.’ The album received widespread critical acclaim from the likes of Pitchfork (who hailed it as “a pristine album”), NPR, Billboard, NME, GQ and much more, with LP highlight track ‘Chemicals‘ amassing over 55 million Spotify streams and counting, catapulting SG Lewis‘ total stream count to over 1.4 billion.

SG Lewis has cemented his status as one music’s most sought-after producers and has collaborated with the likes of Elton John, Dua Lipa, Clairo, Tove Lo, Khalid, Aluna, Victoria Monet, Raye, Ray BLK, The Neptunes/N.E.R.D’s Chad Hugo, Gerd Janson, Conducta + many more. Louis Vuitton also launched their pre-Fall campaign with Soulwax’s remix of ‘Impact’ earlier this month and Sam is well regarded in fashion circles, attending, and performing an array of parties across his illustrious career. Behind the scenes, he also produced Dave’s seminal breakout track 100’M’s’ and co-wrote ‘Hallucinate‘ for Dua Lipa‘s record-smashing number one album, Future Nostalgia. Sam has sold out headline shows across the US, Asia, Australia, and Europe as well as multiple festival appearances including prime-time slots at Coachella and Glastonbury – his raucous live shows not only make him one of London’s hottest talents, but also a formidable artist capable of making a splash on both sides of the Atlantic and beyond.

BAD CHILD — “ROYALTY REMIX”

Today, singer-songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist known as BAD CHILD reveals the ominous “Royalty Remix” of a previously released track in collaboration with LA-based indie-alterative artist No Love For The Middle Child through Capitol Records. You can listen HERE.

“Royalty” was originally released earlier this year as a track on BAD CHILD’s debut record Free Trial. BAD CHILD recalls on the original track, “‘Royalty’ is a song I want to scare people with, it’s about wanting too much and becoming enveloped in greed. It’s very angry and NIN inspired it heavily.” The intensity of the track is enhanced with the remixed version of the original.

Over the past three years, BAD CHILD has quietly been gathering momentum as an artist with only a handful of releases including his debut EP, Sign Up, a COVERS EP including reinterpretations of songs by Harry Styles, Bill Withers and Soundgarden plus his debut full length record Free Trial. He has quickly become one of the most exciting alt acts to watch; profiled in Complex, HillyDilly, Sidewalk Hustle, Atwood Magazine, Wonderland Magazine and Toronto Star.

His song “Candy,” featuring Ryan Chambers, was included on the soundtrack for the highly publicized Netflix film, To All The Boys: P.S. I Still Love You. And last year, BAD CHILD’s single “Blood” was featured in a global Apple Watch campaign.

BAD CHILD’s eccentric music and unique vision landed him on the festival circuit in the summer of 2019 playing some of the world’s most prestigious line ups including Lollapalooza, Glastonbury, Reading & Leeds and Osheaga.

Today, award-winning globally renowned electronic music producer NETSKY shares a new club anthem “Ice Cold” [feat. David Guetta] via Republic Records and Casablanca Records. Get it HERE. Watch official visualizer HERE.

“Ice Cold” opens the duality of upcoming Palmtrees & Powerlines, the two-part project that explores both NETSKY’s magnetic brand of pop music (on Palmtrees) and his genre-bending innovation as a creator of club tracks (onPowerlines). “Ice Cold”, with its dancefloor vibes, finds its home in Powerlines, where previously released “Téquila Limonada” feat. A.CHAL, aligns with Palmtrees. Each song from Palmtrees & Powerlines will find a place within one of these two worlds NETSKY has built.

About their “Ice Cold” collaboration, Guetta excitedly said, “Working with NETSKY on this track was amazing. He’s such a great producer, and I’m really happy with the end result.

NETSKY recently produced two cuts on the Guetta’s recent album 7, including “Light Headed” [feat. Sia] and “Battle” [feat. Faouzia].

“’Ice Cold’ was such a fun song to make.” NETSKY adds about the new song, “I remember both Stargate and David Guetta making me crank up this demo in a LA studio and all of us vibing to it together. Working with David was amazing, it was inspiring seeing his work routine and energy in studio and I’m so excited to be releasing this single today.”

Stay tuned for more to come from Palmtrees & Powerlines.

Remember ft. Jacob Banks

Today sees Seinabo Sey release the video for Remember ft. Jacob Banks LINK HERE.

The video was directed by Sheila Johansson and NewLand and premiered on Dazed. Speaking to Dazed about the song, Seinabo explains, It’s about wanting to be remembered for all of the good things, and hoping that you can walk out of a relationship whether it be with myself in time, or with a person feeling a sense of freedom. After writing the song herself, Seinabo teamed up with friend and fellow artist Jacob Banks, who transformed the track into a love song.

Seinabo recently announced her new single, I Owe You Nothing and accompanying b-side Remember ft. Jacob Banks. Both are now available to buy and stream on all platforms via Virgin Records. This announcement marked Seinabo’s first new music in over two years since the release of her critically acclaimed debut album Pretend in 2015.

Listen to/Share I Owe You Nothing and Remember HERE

The new music sees Seinabo crafting songs revolving around the issues about which she has been vocal on social media and in her enchanting live performances: womanhood and feminism, identity, body positivity and an adherence to loving yourself.

Pushing her art to the next level, Seinabo has taken much of the creative direction for the new record into her own hands, spending the past few months in Gambia (her father’s home country) to film music videos and shoot a plethora of breathtaking new images which encompass her new direction. In the I Owe You Nothing video, Seinabo blends the rich, bright colours of local fabrics with confidence that is evident throughout, she explains I figured it’s time I stand up for myself and this is my best way of doing that.

Seinabo rose to critical acclaim in 2015 following the release of two EPs and her debut album Pretend, which TIME magazine called One of the Year’s Best Debut Albums and SPIN named one of the Best Albums of 2015. Certified Gold in Sweden, Pretend earned her a 2015 Swedish Grammy Award for Best Newcomer and Best Pop award the following year.

The boundary-blurring artist has topped the Hype Machine chart five times and racked up more than 400 million  global Spotify streams to date, including at least 250 million for the album’s lead single, Younger. Kygo’s remix of Younger climbed to No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Dance Club Play chart. Seinabo spent three years touring the globe in support of the album, stunning audiences with her expressive, soulful voice. She has played festivals such as Way Out West, Glastonbury and Roskilde. Her television performances include Late Night with Conan O’Brien and Later with Jools Holland.

Seinabo will be releasing more music this year and will perform at Stockholm’s 12,000-capacity Globe Arena on Friday, October 5.

EMIRATES AIRLINE DUBAI JAZZ FESTIVAL

By Amardeep Singh

EMIRATES BRINGS JAZZ TO DUBAI ONCE AGAIN

When you’ve got a superb lineup of some of the greatest figures coming together for a musical sensation, you know there’s a lot at stake each year as the crowd’s expectations increase. Emirates Airlines celebrated its newest iteration of the much awaited Jazz Music Festival. The 16th Emirates Airline Dubai Jazz Festival ran from 21 to 23 February 2018 at the Dubai Media City Amphitheatre and featured the following main performances:

Duran Duran:- The band performed single hits and solos going back to the Top 10 days with several encores and repeat performances carrying away the opening night to a heightened and euphoric beginning.

RENEGADE BRASS BAND:- RBB has already played packed-out shows at venues around the UK and Europe and have had collaborations with De La Soul, Busta Rhymes, Grandmaster Flash, Public Enemy, The Cat Empire, Jamie Cullum, Quantic, Craig Charles and many more artists. RBB’s festival performances include the Glastonbury, Java Jazz Festival Jakarta, Sea Sessions Ireland, Black Sea Jazz Festival, Stuttgart Jazz Festival and Soundwave Croatia.

JOHN LEGEND:- John Legend made his entry into the festival for the third time wowing fans with hits like All of Me from his fourth studio album ‘Love in the Future’ which claimed the #1 spot on Billboard’s Hot 100 Singles Chart and reached #1 on both Mainstream Top 40 and Rhythmic Charts.

CHINA MOSES:- An exceptionally young artist with a rich R&B heritage, China Moses drew the crowds crazy with her jazz vocals and injected the theater in a frenzy of melody and musical masterpieces.

RICKY MARTIN:- The night was kept pumping with chartbusters like “Living La Vida Loca”, “The Cup of Life” and “She Bangs” as Ricky Martin took the spot. Performances included samples from his recent single “Vente Pa’ Ca” which became one of the biggest hits of 2016, topping the charts worldwide.

VERA CIOCCA:- Originally a soloist focusing in Pop and R&B music, she participated on The Voice Teens Colombia, where out of 10,000 participants, she was among the top 8. With more than 700,000 views on social media and millions of rising fans worldwide, her performances were a treat for the local populace.

The first ever inaugural edition took place in January 2003 selling just over a thousand tickets which has steadily increased over the years. Unlike the three day format, by 2012 the festival was extended to 10 days in celebration of its 10th anniversary and saw more than 50,000 entrants.

The 2015 edition remains the best selling edition having 3 sold out nights featuring award winning artists including Sting, John Legend, and James Blunt to add to the roster.

But beyond the stage and glamour that surrounds the theater, the festival is a major musical milestone for the region. It remains the most awarded music event in the UAE receiving the “What’s On” Award for “The Best Festival” consistently in 2006, 2007, 2009 and 2010. It also received the “Best Public Entertainment Event in The Middle East” for 2008 and the “Best Marketing of An Event” Award in 2009 at the EVENT 360 “; the Time Out Award for the “Best Music Festival” in 2010, with the recent Ahlan! Best In Dubai Award as the “Best Music Event” for 2010.

One thing seems certain, the crowds are getting larger and loaded for more.

“Best Of’s are a good way of introducing new fans to a big back catalogue.” Explains front man and lyricist Guy Garvey on the band’s reasoning behind this release. “My first Leonard Cohen album was ‘The Best Of’, same with Fleetwood Mac and Nick Drake. It took ages for us to decide what should go on ours but we got there in the end. We are really proud of this. It’s full of memories.”

Always a band that has attracted deserved critical praise for their recordings, (elbow were the first act in history to receive four consecutive 9/10 album reviews from NME), this best of album is the perfect introduction to the amazing musical legacy to date of one of the country’s most beloved and most successful acts, demonstrating that most rare thing in modern music; a band whose story and influence continues to grow with every release.

GLASS ANIMALS LAUNCH NORTH AMERICAN HEADLINE TOUR TOMORROW AT SEATTLE’S WAMU THEATER

Run Will Include September 21 Show At Los Angeles’ Shrine Auditorium And October 5 Concert At NYC’s Radio City Music Hall

How To Be A Human Being Shortlisted For UK’s Mercury Prize

Band Will Perform At Austin City Limits Festival On October 14

Glass Animals will launch their third North American headline tour of 2017 tomorrow, September 16, at Seattle’s WaMu Theater. The run includes a show at Los Angeles’ historic Shrine Auditorium (September 21) and the band’s first concert at Radio City Music Hall in New York City (October 5). Additional East Coast dates include shows at Agganis Arena in Boston (October 7) and the 9:30 Club in Washington, DC (October 8 & 9). Glass Animals will cap off the outing with a performance at Austin City Limits Festival on October 14. See below for itinerary. Tickets are available at http://glassanimals.eu/.

The band, which was shortlisted for the 2017 Mercury Prize, continues to pull out all the stops during its live performances. DIY Magazine, reviewing a 2017 show in London, said, “From the second frontman Dave Bayley bounds on stage with limitless energy, Brixton Academy is theirs, and the Oxford quartet proceed to give it one hell of a party.” The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette noted, “[the] band has honed its act at all the major festivals — Coachella, Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, Glastonbury, etc. — and it showed in the high energy that began as soon as it hit the stage with ‘Life Itself,’ the percussive dance track that opens the new, second album, ‘How to Be a Human Being.'”

A broken ankle couldn’t keep Bayley from crowd surfing during the band’s main stage set at Coachella, cited as a festival highlight by Billboard, which praised Glass Animals’ “dynamic rendition” of “Gooey.” In July, a storm briefly interrupted their sold-out show at Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre, but the band returned to the stage and got the crowd dancing again. Local NBC affiliate 9 News observed, “You always take the risk of rain or shine at Red Rocks, but Glass Animals made it worth every drop.” Their riveting live shows have contributed to Glass Animals’ incredible global growth, resulting in sold-out excursions throughout the U.K., Europe and Australia.

Glass Animals are touring in support of How To Be A Human Being (Harvest Records), which debuted in the Top 20 of the Billboard 200 and topped the iTunes Alternative Albums chart in the U.S. and Australia. The album introduced fans to a diverse group of fictional characters, inspired by real people the band encountered while on tour. Glass Animals have continued to bring these characters to life with interactive sites for “Life Itself,””Youth” and “Pork Soda,” as well as a video game app for “Season 2 Episode 3.

The single “Agnes” has over 10 million streams on Spotify worldwide. The official video, directed by Eoin Glaister, and can be seen HERE. Track “Pork Soda” has upwards of 13 million Spotify streams, and the official video, which can be seen HERE, has more than one million views. NPR Music placed “Life Itself” on its list of “Songs We Love” while “Youth” appeared on their “10 Songs Public Radio Can’t Stop Playing” list. How To Be A Human Being is the follow-up to Glass Animals’ 2014 debut, ZABA, which contained the hits “Gooey” and “Black Mambo.”
