IAM NYC Opening

IAM is the inverted experience of the self as reflected through the eyes of established and upcoming local and international artists. The museum’s mission is to showcase the various facades of New York City through an inverted perspective, forcing audiences to re-envision the city’s topologies and structures in a new and creative light.

The inverted museum welcomes its guests in the heart of Soho, one of New York City’s best-known neighborhoods for fine art and culture. The museum’s lobby acts as an orientation point, a place where individuals can gain more insight into various art installations and their historical relevance to the city. The IAM Inverted Art Museum encourages individuals to tap into the complex spectrum of human emotion while they traverse through an array of vibrant exhibition rooms. As they are guided through these thematic rooms, time halts, and guests become fully immersed in the singular moment of time as the visual storytelling of each exhibition unravels in front of them.

The uniqueness of IAM comes from the museum’s ability to capture a visual record of history, igniting feelings of nostalgia, happiness and curiosity in its audiences. Each room acts as a different urban landscape unfolding the various personalities of New York City. From the gritty to the luxurious, the uptown bound trains to the empty apartments in Billionaires Row, the unexpected nature of the inverted rooms can be described as physical surrealism, showing off the unanticipated and often illogical juxtapositions of the city’s identity. 

IAM recognizes that each unique piece of art acts as an entryway to the artist’s cultural, political, and socio-economic circumstances. Culture and art are created by ordinary people, and their collective experiences shape the perception of the world around them. Similarly, New York City’s art scene is multifaceted, a melting pot of artistic expression that transcends any physical bounds dictated by borders or bodies of water. The museum wishes to highlight each artist’s unique perception of the world through an inverted lens, encouraging its viewers to pause and digest each and every little detail that surrounds them. IAM hopes to be a place of inspiration for artists and visitors alike, allowing artists to create work as their full unique selves while promoting tolerance, respect, and equality.

Staying true to its mission of visual storytelling, the IAM Inverted Art Museum is also prioritizing work installations by Ukrainian artists in the hopes of aiding those who are affected by the unjust war. A percentage of ticket purchases go towards rebuilding schools and helping kids in Ukraine. IAM works directly with a number of charities to ensure that all donations are going towards rebuilding Ukraine and aiding families in need. The museum will also hold an auction for a large-scale Ukrainian flag built out of lego blocks and 100% of the profits made from the auction will go towards war relief efforts in Ukraine.

The IAM Inverted Art Museum is also proud to be supporting Ukrainian artists seeking to come to the United States Under the O-1B visa, otherwise known as the Artists Visa. Selected artists will receive assistance with navigating through the O-1B petition process. Please note that we do not cover the cost of application fees or lawyers, rather we help applicants fill out their petitions as an alternative route to hiring a lawyer. Our team members have first-hand experience with applying for the O-1B visa and can help applicants with the completion of their own Visa application.

Although artists from all around the world are welcome to apply to this initiative on our website HERE, we are currently prioritizing Ukrainian artists.

Visionnaire Celebrates Capsule During Art Basel

Visionnaire, the Italian meta-luxury lifestyle brand of reference in the sector of interior design, hosted a VIP cocktail party to showcase its award-winning new collections, “Caprice,” “Babylon Rack” and the biennial collection “Beauty” at the Visionnaire Miami showroom on December 4th during Miami Art Week. Guests toured the sleek, 7,500-square-foot showroom, admiring the brand’s award-winning designs, including the “Pavone” (Peacock) Chair by Marc Ange, the “Basket” armchair by m2atelier and the “Lego” low table and console, designed by Draga & Aurel, selected for the ADI Design Index 2021.  

Visionnaire executives Silvia Romeo, Juan Carlos Navarro, and Lorenzo Cascino welcomed guests, including Bertil Espegren, Martina Borgomanero Basabe, Fabian BasabeRenato Freitas, Clare Laverty, and Ryan Kraus.

Design duo m2atelier won the 2021 Archiproducts Design Award in the outdoor category, for their coveted “Basket” armchair, another iconic piece from the Caprice Collection. The enveloping design is developed on an aluminum structure, through the elegant back made with segments of iroko wood held together to create a finely crafted necklace effect. A welcoming embrace of materials, sinuous forms and practical decorations make Basket a precious but also very functional object.  The Caprice Collection is inspired by the Italian credo of living life with a spirit of caprice, passion, and nonchalance. Standout pieces of this collection include the “Siesta” daybed with a large adjustable built-in parasol, the “Vienna” low coffee table and the “Ilario” outdoor modular sofa. 

The Babylon Rack Collection, designed by Alessandro La Spada, was conceived as a work of modular mini-architecture with diverse functional features for studying, working and relaxing. The standout star of the Babylon Rack Collection is a unique modular sofa with accessorized built-in compartments that have shelves and object caddies as well as built-in LED lighting which can be remotely controlled via an integrated touch sensor. LEGOLAND New York Resort Now Open

The Orange County Tourism & Film team is incredibly excited to share that LEGOLAND® New York Resort is officially open for fun. The 150-acre park is located in Goshen, New York.

After starting construction in 2018, LEGOLAND® New York Resort opened all seven of their themed lands to the general public on Friday morning. Attending the grand opening was Gov. Andrew Cuomo, joined by other elected officials and regional tourism partners who marked the opening of the theme park by flipping a power switch.

LEGOLAND® New York Resort features a theme park with seven uniquely themed worlds, filled with attractions for the whole family. The theme park also includes a variety of dining options, as well as stores to purchase your favorite LEGO® products. A 250-room resort accompanies the theme park, offering patrons the chance to stay in either pirate, kingdom, Lego Friends or LEGO® NINJAGO® themed rooms. The LEGOLAND® hotel will start accepting reservations on August 6.

The addition of LEGOLAND® New York Resort increases the number of major attractions in New York State that currently reside in Orange County. Sitting 50 miles away from New York City, Orange County provides recreational activities, history, shopping, arts and culture, dining and more for all ages. Cicadas Take Over LEGOLAND Discovery Center Westchester

New York City has avoided a major Cicada invasion – until now.

The large insects, which are 1-2 inches long, are part of the largest brood of periodical cicadas in the nation. The last time they came to New York in 2004, they arrived around May 13.

Dozens of LEGO Cicadas have overtaken iconic NYC attractions like the Statue of Liberty in LEGOLAND Discovery Center Westchester‘s MINILAND attraction, a LEGO replica of New York City. Matthew Graham, Master Model Builder of LEGOLAND Discovery Center Westchester, was able to replicate these intriguing insects with 22 LEGO bricks including bricks like bucket handles for legs. These LEGO creatures will be on display until mid-July for guests to spot.

Also at LEGOLAND Westchester, you can enjoy the ultimate two-story indoor LEGO playground and escape the summer heat! Surround yourself with millions of LEGO Bricks, take flight on Merlin’s Apprentice, blast skeletons on Kingdom Quest ride adventure, see your favorite characters on LEGO 4D Theater, and build epic LEGO creations alongside master builders! LEGOLAND Westchester is consistent with updated guidance from the state of New York and the CDC, following all COVID protocols. Face coverings for guests who are fully vaccinated will no longer be required, but still recommended.

LEGO Lamborghini Replica

Automobili Lamborghini in collaboration with the LEGO Group has built a life-size replica of the Lamborghini Sián FKP 37, using over 400,000 LEGO® Technic™ elements. Following the launch of the 1:8 scale LEGO® Technic™ Lamborghini Sián FKP 37 last year, this life-size model replicates the limited-edition Italian super sportscar on a much grander scale. Using 154 different types of LEGO elements, including 20 moulded specifically for this project, the 2,200 kg model embodies the unmistakeable design of the Lamborghini Sián down to the most minute details, perfectly mirroring the car’s dimensions to the millimetre.

“Lamborghini is a dream for people around the world, and LEGO products provide creative inspiration for millions,” said Stephan Winkelmann President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini. “We’re delighted to have collaborated on this unique edition of the Lamborghini Sián, that will catch the imagination of Lamborghini and LEGO fans alike.”

The collaboration between the two companies’ designers, engineers and technicians, took a team of 15 people 8,660 hours of development work and painstaking construction. The proportion-perfect chassis is identical to the real-life Sián at 4,980 mm long, 2,101 mm wide and 1,133 mm high. The body panels are comprised of an intricate fabric of bespoke interconnecting hexagonal LEGO Technic elements, paying homage to the six-sided shape that is integral to Lamborghini’s design language. The Sián’s name, meaning ‘flash’ or ‘lightning’ in Bolognese dialect, is honored by the LEGO Group’s experts who have ensured that the lights, built entirely from Technic elements, and the sleek lightning bolt that flashes along the body, reflect how the real Sián’s epsilon headlights and hexagonal taillights power up and down. Inside the cockpit the detail continues with a brick-built steering wheel featuring the Lamborghini emblem and Italian flag, LEGO built dashboard controls and racing seats.

This is the first large-scale model from the LEGO Group to have a paintbrush-effect UV colour coating. The colour, which is a perfect match to the 1:8 scale LEGO Technic model, was applied by Automobili Lamborghini’s paint shop.

Lena Dixen, Senior Vice President of Product and Marketing at the LEGO Group said: “Our designers love a challenge, so you can imagine their delight when we tasked them to think slightly larger than normal with this model. They jumped at the chance of teaming up with our amazing designers and engineers who build these impressive life-sized models at our Kladno factory’s model production workshop in the Czech Republic, and really pushing the boundaries of what can be done with LEGO Technic. The creativity that the system allows meant it was possible to really do justice to the exceptional design of the Lamborghini Sián FKP 37.”

In a first-of-its-kind virtual unveiling from the LEGO Group, the model has been rebuilt in a virtual LEGO workshop to give Lamborghini enthusiasts and LEGO lovers the chance to get up close and personal with the full-scale version. Viewers can make their dreams come true by getting behind the wheel of the 1:8 scale edition before being ‘transformed’ along with the model into the full-scale replica revealed today. They can sit virtually in the driver’s seat and hear from the Automobili Lamborghini and LEGO Group designers who made this model a reality.

Idris Elba × HarperCollins

Iconic and multi-award-winning actor, musician, filmmaker, and activist Idris Elba has signed a global multi-book deal with HarperCollins to publish a range of children’s books launching in 2022.

In a major UK/US co-publication deal, world rights were acquired by Ann-Janine Murtagh, Executive Publisher, HCCB UK, and Suzanne Murphy, President, and Publisher, HCCB US, from Crystal Mahey-Morgan at OWN IT! Entertainment Ltd.

Publishing will include picture books and fiction featuring a character and world imagined and developed by Idris and his writing partner Robyn Charteris, who has written numerous live-action drama, pre-school and animation programs for BBC, Channel 4, the Jim Henson Company, and Endemol as well as educational theatre for schools. Idris Elba said, “I feel privileged to have the opportunity to bring stories inspired by my daughter to life with my incredible partner Robyn Charteris, and the powerhouse team at HarperCollins.”

Golden Globe and SAG winning Idris Elba captivates audiences as an actor, producer, and director, and continually secures his position as the one to watch in Hollywood. He is the first actor to receive dual SAG awards in one evening.

Idris’s career skyrocketed on the small screen in some of the UK’s top-rated shows. Soon after, he landed the role of Stringer Bell in HBO’s critically acclaimed series The Wire (NAACP Image Award nomination). In 2010, Idris landed the title role on the BBC mini-series Luther, which earned him a Golden Globe, SAG Award, and four Emmy nominations. In 2005, he began his film career; his credits include American Gangster (Golden Globe nomination), Mandela: The Long Walk to Freedom (Golden Globe nomination), Beasts of No Nation (SAG Award, Golden Globe nomination), and the Oscar-nominated film Molly’s Game.  He can be seen this April in the Netflix film Concrete Cowboy, which he also produced, and this summer will be starring in The Suicide Squad 2.  Other upcoming films include The Harder They Fall and Three Thousand Years of Longing.

Behind the camera, Idris made his feature-film directorial debut at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival with Yardie. In 2013, he founded his production company, Green Door Pictures, to champion diversity of thought. With Green Door, Idris released the documentary Mandela, My Dad and Me, produced the TV mini-series Guerrilla for Showtime, and created, produced, and appears in the Sky comedy series In the Long Run. He also created, produced, and starred in the Netflix comedy series Turn Up Charlie.

ROBYN CHARTERIS

Robyn began her career writing educational theatre for schools and charitable organizations internationally before graduating to television. For television she has written on numerous live-action drama, pre-school, and animation programs for the BBC, Channel 4, the Jim Henson Company, Channel 5, Initial Kids (Endemol), Carlton TV, Gullane, Hit Entertainment, Granada, SABC, Urban Brew, Disney, and M-Net.

Her credits include a BAFTA-winning children’s drama series for CBBC, creating and writing one of the first original 52-episode pre-school series for the launch of the digital channel CBeebies, creative consultancy for Mattel Toys and Lego, and a master’s degree in Playwriting.

Spotted!  – Top Gear’s Stig

Dodges security at LEGO HQ  

He has outsmarted fans for years by keeping his identity under wraps but can the Stig evade capture when he infiltrates the LEGO Headquarters in Billund, Denmark, at night?  

A new video released today shows the lengths that the Stig goes to so he can get his hands on the LEGO® Technic™ App Controlled Top Gear Rally Car and escape without being unmasked.  

Footage captured shows the mystery racing driver teasing security as he designs and builds his own LEGO® Technic™ App Controlled Top Gear Rally Car in the home of the LEGO Group in Denmark – before exiting at speed in a Porsche 911 GT3 RS towards the Top Gear test track. 

“The LEGO® Technic™ App Controlled Top Gear Rally Car was designed to be the perfect car for the Stig, but it’s only an eighth of the size of cars he is used to driving. NEW LEGO® TECHNIC™ TOP GEAR RALLY CAR

First ever LEGO Technic Top Gear collaboration wows the crowds at LA Auto Show

Today, the LEGO Group revealed the first ever LEGO® Technic™ Top Gear Set in partnership with BBC Studios. The new LEGO Technic App Controlled Top Gear Rally Car is an authentic looking GT Rally car for ages 9 years and above and will be available globally from 26th December 2019.

LEGO Technic designers joined forces with the BBC Top Gear team to co-design the body of the car and accompanying stickers to create an ultra-realistic and fast looking racer that fans are sure to enjoy building at home.  

The model is remote controlled via the LEGO Technic CONTROL+ app and contains functions such as steering, multi-touch control and gyro control as well as different challenges and achievements to deliver a thrilling, immersive play experience. The rally car comes complete with 1 large motor, 1 XL motor and 1 Bluetooth controlled smart hub.
