Outfest 2021

If you’re looking for new entertainment, good news: Outfest L.A 2021 has released the dates, venues, and lineup for its 39th film festival. Outfest LA is returning to in-person screenings more than a year and a half after the Covid-19 pandemic. With nearly 200 films in every genre, Outfest includes voices and stories from the entire queer community.

The nation’s leading LGBTQ+ festival will be held from August 13 to 22 in-person. Alternatively, for those at-risk or those who are outside of the Los Angeles area, Outfest also announced that nearly every film will be available for streaming as well. The 2021 LGBTQ film festival kicks off with an opening night screening of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie directed by Jonathan Butterell, marking the festival’s first outdoor gala taking place at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. On August 22, Fanny: The Right to Rock directed by Bobbi Jo Hart will be the closing night film screening at the Orpheum Theatre.

The Platinum Section will be showcasing creators of experimental LGBTQ media and performance, featuring films such as Sundance hit We’re All Going to the World’s Fair and UK documentary Rebel Dykes. The Legacy section will feature screenings of classic LGBTQ features including The Incredibly True Adventures of Two Girls in Love by director Maria Maggenti.

Not just film screenings, the festival will also include special appearances by Max Harwood and others, with live performances by BeBe Zahara Benet and more. The fifth annual Trans and Non-Binary Summit will be presented, in addition to other special events. Outfest will also present memorial tributes to Outfest alum Ash Christian and icon Cloris Leachman.

General admission tickets are $16. More information on exact prices and films can be found on the official website.

Cicadas Take Over LEGOLAND Discovery Center Westchester

New York City has avoided a major Cicada invasion – until now.

The large insects, which are 1-2 inches long, are part of the largest brood of periodical cicadas in the nation. The last time they came to New York in 2004, they arrived around May 13.

Dozens of LEGO Cicadas have overtaken iconic NYC attractions like the Statue of Liberty in LEGOLAND Discovery Center Westchester‘s MINILAND attraction, a LEGO replica of New York City. Matthew Graham, Master Model Builder of LEGOLAND Discovery Center Westchester, was able to replicate these intriguing insects with 22 LEGO bricks including bricks like bucket handles for legs. These LEGO creatures will be on display until mid-July for guests to spot.

Also at LEGOLAND Westchester, you can enjoy the ultimate two-story indoor LEGO playground and escape the summer heat! Surround yourself with millions of LEGO Bricks, take flight on Merlin’s Apprentice, blast skeletons on Kingdom Quest ride adventure, see your favorite characters on LEGO 4D Theater, and build epic LEGO creations alongside master builders! More information on LEGOLAND Westchester activities can be found on the official website.

LEGOLAND Westchester is consistent with updated guidance from the state of New York and the CDC, following all COVID protocols. Face coverings for guests who are fully vaccinated will no longer be required, but still recommended.

Hours are 12pm-5:30pm, last entry at 3:30pm. Limited capacity, tickets available here.

Airports During a Pandemic

By: Carly Cohen

At last, it’s time to start traveling again. But safely!

We created a list of the top 10 safest airports to travel into during a pandemic.

Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport

Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is particularly considered one of the safest because it offers different baggage drop locations and provides many options for social distancing to protect yourself and others.

John F. Kennedy International Airport

JFK located in New York City is surprisingly another safe and great option for traveling. Using the word “surprisingly” because New York City is a very populated area but there are countless contactless options and offer rapid test areas. Restaurants, spa services, and lounges are all officially starting to open back up for an enjoyable travel experience.

Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport

The Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport is the best and safest option while traveling in and out of Texas, and is also the first “Carbon neutral airport in North America.”

Los Angeles International Airport

Like JFK, LAX is a very populated area but is considered one of the safest options while traveling in and out of California. They offer fast-track security to make a speedy and safe visit.

O’Hare International Airport

O’Hare International Airport located in Chicago has the second-highest score worldwide in safety. They strictly follow all Covid-19 protocols.

Newark Liberty International Airport

Newark and JFK go hand in hand. Offering rapid test areas along with contact tracing, fast security, multiple contactless options for an enjoyable experience.

Boston Logan International Airport

Another safe and effective way to travel is through Boston Logan International Airport. Giving options for free on-site testing. They have also been given “ACI Airport Health Accreditation.”

Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport

This airport in Atlanta, Georgia, is known for being one of the busiest airports. However, they have made it a safe and healthy environment to travel to during the pandemic. They became the first airport to provide “hygiene-tracking technology from GP Pro” to allow the best travel experience and reputation.

Philadelphia International Airport

Philadelphia International Airport has prioritized sanitizing and disinfecting boarding areas, gates, restaurants, waiting areas, bathrooms, and everything to make it safe.

San Francisco International Airport

SFO has taken and is still taking precautions in their airport to make things as safe as possible. Constantly disinfecting and always requiring the use of masks on and off planes.

Safe travels!

Annual Ischia Film Festival

An unprecedented, intimate, deep and evocative company that takes shape from the talent and imagination of directors and screenwriters and translates that into new visions, under the moonlight of the Aragonese Castle of Ischia: there will be six Italian preview films selected in competition in the “Scenari Campani” for the nineteenth edition of the Ischia Film Festival, which will be held in the presence of the public and talent from 26 June to 3 July on the Covid free island.

It reconstructs the extraordinary work carried out in Campania by psychiatrist Sergio Piro, on the long wave of the Basaglia reform, “Al lupo bad”, by Chiara Tarfano and Ilaria Luperini. It is a film in 5 episodes “L’ardore dei timidi”, by Antonio Vladimir Marino, which reflects in a surreal way on the absurdity of existence. Historical suggestions and mystery mix in “Clarus”, by Michele Schiano. “The consequences of the actor – Little Michele Esposito”, by Daniele Chiariello and Pierfrancesco Cantarella, traces the short but significant career of a young man from Amalfi, an actor by chance in several popular Neapolitan films of the 1980s. “Estate Povera”, by Andrea Piretti, documents the commendable activity of Neapolitan volunteers committed to helping the poorest and most needy during the months of the pandemic. It recalls the Ischia of yesteryear, “Fragments”, by Boris Molinaro, in which some characters linked to the territory (the sculptor, the restaurant manager, the seafarer) are committed to preserving the historical memory of the island.

“This section intends to enhance the cinematographic works, whether they are fictional or use the language of the cinema of reality, shot in recognizable territories (not studios or interiors) of the Campania region or that have Campania as their main location”, underlines the artistic director of the Michelangelo Messina festival. “The Campania Region, which for four years has supported the festival under a cinema law that finances the entire audiovisual sector, has identified the cinematographic story as an important means of promoting tourism and cultural heritage. – Messina continues – It therefore seemed right to us, from the first year in which this important support measure was established, to dedicate a significant piece of the festival to those works that are often realized thanks to these financing measures. ”
