ABOUT KEITH HARING

Keith Haring was an iconic pop artist and graffiti artist inspired by the New York City street culture of the 1980s. Inspired by the originality and spontaneity of spray-paint graffiti Haring began producing chalk drawings on blank NYC Subway advertisement boards. As his career progressed his art spread to other mediums and he rose to the top of the art world with mass appeal. Haring continued to create public art with the intention of making art accessible to all, which resonates with the mission of Kidrobot.

Haring was involved in numerous charities and causes and hosted drawing workshops for kids around the world. After being diagnosed with AIDS in 1988, he founded the Keith Haring Foundation. His later works leading up to his death in 1990 contained political and societal statements that encapsulate the era. His art has since become iconic and remains relevant to this day.

Mophie Powerstation XL

By Eamonn Burke

With so many public places being closed or unsafe due to COVID-19, people are lacking the ability to stop in somewhere for a quick charge. As a result, portable chargers such as the Morphie Powerstation XL are quickly rising in popularity.

The Mophie Powerstation XL is a state of the art portable charger with two universal USB ports for charging multiple devices at once. The biggest change from before: it now includes a universal plug, so that it is compatible with more devices than just Apple Products. With a 10,000mAh battery, the charger offers 48 extra hours of power, and it also charges fast, at speeds up to 2.1A. When connected to a power source, the charger will give your device priority before charging itself, and it will tell you how much current battery is left. All of these features give the ability to charge easily on the go, which all portable charges should provide. Additionally, the charger is sleek and small, with a sharp aluminum finish. Lastly, the Mophie Powerstation XL has management circuitry to protest against overheating and short-circuiting. The lithium-polymer batteries are also triple tested to ensure durability and quality.

Mophie also offers the Powerstation AC, which includes a 24,000mAh battery that can charge at up to speeds of 3A. Delivering 100W of power through its AC port, it’s capable of fully charging a MacBook. There is also a fast-charge feature that’s uses 30W for your USB-C laptop. Another USB-A port also allows quick charge at 2.4A speed. The Powerstation AC also offers priority charging and a power indicator, and is finished with a protective but comfortable fabric wrap.

As a cheaper alternative Mophie carries the Powerstation, with up to 2.1 full phone charges and a 18W output out of the USB-C port. The fast USB-C PD port charges a phone to 50% battery in just 30 minutes. The more powerful Powerstation XXL has up to 4.6 full charges, while at the same power output as the Powerstation with PD. The Powerstation XXL’s battery, however, is two times more powerful, at 20,000mAh as compared to 10,000. It can also charge 3 devices at once, whereas the Powerstation charges 2 at once.

Lastly, the Powerstation wireless stand has a 8,000mAh battery, a universal USB-C and USB-A port, and provides 18W of power from an output or wirelessly. It can provide up to 1.7 full charges, and can charge up to three devices at once. It can also switch easily between portrait and landscape display.

The Powerstation XXL was rated third most efficient among other battery packs by PCWorld. These Mophie products compare well to other top-of-the-like portable chargers on the market right now. These include:

Oakley Debuts Precious Mettle OVERTHETOP

Oakley is bringing back the OVERTHETOP, the unique, disruptive design that was unveiled on the world’s biggest sports stage twenty years ago. To celebrate the anniversary, Oakley will release the “Precious Mettle OVERTHETOP” on the day that would have marked the final competitive events of this year’s Summer Games.

Only 20 units of the Precious Mettle OVERTHETOP have been produced worldwide, and each will retail for $2,000 on Oakley.com at 12pm EST on Fri, Aug 7th.

The new iteration has been created from the original mold, featuring the same revolutionary, stemless design that fits over the top of the head rather than around it. With a gradient color treatment that fades from aged gold to silver and bronze, the eyewear is launched in recognition of the Games that didn’t happen and pays tribute to those who push through and overcome adversity during a time of uncertainty.

Lukas Nelson ’56 Les Paul Junior Available

For the Lukas Nelson ’56 Les Paul Junior spec sheet and info: Here.

By leveraging its iconic past and leaning into an innovative future, Gibson has set the stage for the next era of shaping sound for present and future with instruments that nurture new players across generations and genres of music. Gibson and Lukas Nelson have announced today, theyߣll release the first-ever Gibson USA Lukas Nelson 56’ Les Paul Junior. Later tonight, tune-in to watch a Live Q&A with Lukas Nelson about his musical history and songwriting at 7:00pm CTon Gibson TV. Lukas will answer questions from fans and share a special announcement from his studio in Los Angeles, tonight at 7:00pm CT/5:00pm PT/8:00pm ET,all on Gibson TV.
Lukas Nelson knows all about legacies, indeed he’s been hard at work carving his own for most of his young, but extremely eventful life. This customized Gibson Les Paul Junior is inspired by Lukas Nelson’s own 1956 Junior. “The beauty of this guitar is that it is very versatile with the sound. In fact, I can get a lot of different tones just from the P90 and the way that I attack the strings and through the intonation and the vibrato that I give,” says Lukas Nelson. If I hit it lighter, it doesn’t break up as much. If I get into it, it gets a lot of grit and dirt and breaks up. It’s a versatile tone, which Iߣm pretty grateful for. Frankly, Gibson has been nothing but incredible to us to me since I’ve met them. And this guitar has taken me on a long journey. It’s taken me to some amazing places, and I hope that a lot of other people get the same opportunity with their version of my guitar.

With his primary focus as the front man of Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Realover the release of six studio albums, four Eps and world tours, Lukas and the band have evolved into an emergent and vital force in American music. In song after song, on stage after stage, Lukas and POTR have sharpened the edges of their singular sound, one that nods to their influences while also pushing forward into uncharted territory. The never-ending road also beckons with additional projects, Lukas and his band POTR’s frequent performances as Neil Young’s band and of course, performances alongside his father in Willie Nelson & Family.

Lukas and Gibson’s Luthiers worked closely to develop his Lukas Nelson 56’ Les Paul Junior. Several prototypes were road tested by Lukas on tour over this past year and the end result is Lukas’s vision. Based off his beloved 1956 Les Paul Junior which has been his main guitar for several years, the Lukas Nelson 56’ Les Paul Junior is rooted in tradition with some modern enhancements. Like his original, the single cutaway slab Mahogany body, and neck are crafted of genuine Mahogany for its resonant tonal characteristics and moderate weight. The fat 50’s-style neck profile feels smooth and comfortable while providing rigidity and sustain. It features a Rosewood fingerboard with dot inlays and medium jumbo frets for a vintage feel with modern playability. Finished in a deluxe satin Vintage Sunburst, this shade was developed to capture the same vintage patina of his original. The single, dog-ear P-90 pickup features Alnico III magnets and is voiced to replicate the tonal response that Lukas requires. The single volume and tone controls have gold speed knobs (as used in 1956) and are hand-wired featuring an orange drop capacitor and original spec 500k vintage audio taper pots. The aged nickel-plated hardware includes Vintage Deluxe strip style tuners w/ white buttons like the originals but feature a higher gear ratio for improved performance. The 50’s style wraparound bridge provides the same look and solid resonance as the original, but it is made with a stealthy compensation contour to improve intonation accuracy. The new Gibson USA Lukas Nelson 56’ Les Paul Junior will officially be available worldwide at all Authorized Gibson Dealers in August 2020.

Earlier this year, Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real released Naked Garden via Fantasy Records. A companion to the group’s highly acclaimed 2019 LP, Turn Off The News (Build A Garden), this 15-track collectioncaptures the joyful spirit and creative intensity of POTR’s News with previously unreleased songs and alternate cuts that came out of those sessions at Shangri-La and Village Studios. Wide-ranging in scope and minimalist production Naked Garden embodies the band’s shared spiritual connection and consummate musical chemistry. Guitarist/vocalist Lukas Nelson and his band, Promise of the Real which is rounded out by bassist Corey McCormick, drummer Anthony LoGerfo, percussionist Tato Melgarand multi-instrumentalist Logan Metz, teamed with John Alagia to produce Naked Garden. A few of the album’s many highlights includes the studio version of fan favorite Entirely Different Stars, the plaintive romance of Movie In My Mind, a rough, early-stage version of Bad Case, and Lukas’ unearthly falsetto on the classic country waltz, The Way You Say Goodbye. Listen to the lead track, a supercharged, alternate version of Civilized Hell HERE and watch the trailer for Naked Garden HERE.

Pirelli Supplier Awards 2018

Sustainability, innovation and quality of service were the key elements for the Pirelli Supplier Awards 2018, the annual occasion when the Company awards 9 suppliers from its global supply chain of over 10,000. The Supplier Awards reward those suppliers who shine for their ability to make the Pirelli supply chain even more sustainable and enhance qualitative excellence, making Pirelli’s products more High Value, in line with the Group’s strategy.

Today the awards for the suppliers who distinguished themselves over the last year were presented by Chief Purchasing Officer, Matteo Battaini and the Chief Sustainability and Risk Governance Officer, Filippo Bettini, at a ceremony at Pirelli’s headquarters in Milan. The awards were given to nine suppliers in the areas of raw materials, services and machinery.

In the 2018 edition, the most frequently seen factors include innovation, quality of service and sustainability, which had its own specific award. Pirelli’s supply chain has been constructed to guarantee product innovation, process digitalization and long term competitiveness, where respect for the environment and attention to the value of people are considered a primary levers of growth.

Pirelli’s efforts towards a sustainable purchasing strategy were recognized by the confirmation that Pirelli’s supply system was in compliance with the UNI ISO 20400 rule, conferred in February 2018 by SGS Italia S.p.A. – one of the leading companies globally for inspection, verification, analysis and certification services. Pirelli is thus the first company in the automotive industry to have received this confirmation of compliance. The ISO 20400 constitutes the most important international guideline in the matter of supply chain sustainable governance, where the economic, social and environmental responsibility are integrated into the Company’s strategies, organization and purchasing processes.

The winners of the Pirelli Supplier Awards 2018 include:

Glanzstoff Sicrem Spa (Italy), suppliers of textile reinforcements – awarded for the criteria of “Quality” and “Speed”, plus the prestigious Sustainability prize, which the company deserved because it produces rayon using only cellulose from plantations certified for sustainable agro-forestry management;

JSR Corporation (Japan), a supplier of synthetic rubber awarded for the criteria of “Innovation” and “Service Level”;

Thai Eastern Innovation Co., Ltd (Thailandia), PT. Kirana Megatara Tbk (Indonesia) and PT. Prasidha Aneka Niaga Tbk (Indonesia); all suppliers of natural rubber awarded for “Quality” and “Service Level”;

VMI Holland (Holland), a supplier of tire assemblers and machines for semi-processed components for the criteria of “Quality” and “Global Presence”;

MDM (Italy), an integrated marketing and communication agency awarded for the criteria of “Innovation” and “Speed”;

APPIAN (USA), a supplier of the Business Process Management platform and related consultancy services awarded for the criteria of “Innovation” and “Speed”;

Warehouse Service, Inc. (USA), a logistics services supplier awarded for the criteria of “Speed” and “Innovation”.

Matteo Battaini, Chief Purchasing Officer,commented: “Pirelli has built its business model, focused on High Value, on product innovation and process digitalization. To pursue this strategy it is not only necessary to choose suppliers that are leading companies, but also to build with each of them a partner relationship. It is essential that they share values such as innovation, quality, customer care, product and process sustainability and attention to brand value. And, in an ever more dynamic market context, goals must also be shared, such as cost rationalization, speed of adapting to new technology and implementation of best practices in sustainable management. Today Pirelli’s procurement involves the management of around 10,000 suppliers for a total expenditure of 3.2 billion euro in 2017, mainly on raw materials (46%), services (36%), machinery (13%) and consumption materials (3%).”

Panasonic Introduces Shoe Deodorizer

Panasonic Corporation will begin selling a shoe deodorizer, the MS-DS100, equipped with “nanoe X” that generates 10 times(*2) more hydroxyl (OH) radicals than “nanoe” to remove unpleasant shoe odors in a simple way, on September 20, 2018 (in Japan only).

One of the common causes of unpleasant shoe odors is isovaleric acid, an odorous substance produced by foot sweat and bacteria. According to a survey(*3) Panasonic conducted with sneaker wearers, about 62% of those surveyed take some measures to remove shoe odors, but about half of them are not satisfied with the deodorizing methods they use.

The MS-DS100 utilizes Panasonic’s original ion particles, “nanoe X,” to dissolve and eliminate unpleasant shoe odors(*1). When the product is set in shoes and the switch turned on, “nanoe X” is generated and spreads from six outlets to every corner of the shoes to remove odors(*1) in the entire interior of the shoes from the heel to the toe.

There are two operation modes to choose from. The normal mode provides approximately five hours of operation, while the long mode runs for about seven hours to remove stubborn odors. Both modes cost less than 1 yen(*4) per use, so it is very economical. The MS-DS100 also operates on a mobile battery(*5) so it can be used at a place where there is no AC power outlet. The product comes with a stylish storage case. The case accommodates the cap sections that are inserted into shoes for use, so the product can be stored neatly in the entrance area or shoe cupboard.

With the MS-DS100 shoe deodorizer, Panasonic proposes an easy way to remove shoe odors and expects to create new market demand.

Product features

Uses “nanoe X” to dissolve and eliminate shoe odors(*1)

The MS-DS100 utilizes Panasonic’s original nano-sized ions, “nanoe X.” Measuring about 5 to 20 nm each, the “nanoe X” particles penetrate the textile and dissolve and eliminate unpleasant shoe odors(*1).The six outlets discharge and spread “nanoe X” to every corner of the shoes to provide a thorough deodorizing effect.

Economical operation with electricity cost of less than 1 yen(*4) per use. Also operates on a mobile battery(*5).
