Houseparty is Poppin!

It’s award show season, and just because many are still social distancing it does not mean you can’t have a viewing party with friends and family! The show can still go on with Houseparty.

Houseparty is a synchronous face-to-face social network that enables group video communication through mobile and desktop applications. A user opens the app, and their friends get a push notification that they are “in the house” and ready to chat. The app allows users to come online and be present and see who their friends are talking to and join their conversations. On average, users spend 60 minutes per day in the app chatting with friends.

Get dressed up, pour yourself a drink, open the Houseparty app, and get your friends “in the house” to watch this year’s award shows – and make sure to check out the Trivia categories dedicated to movies! Click on the dice icon on the top right to play all the games available on Houseparty Heads Up! Tap a game and you’ll then be asked to add friends to play with you. Wait for them to connect, then it’s game on!

Fortnite Mode

Fortnite Mode lets you cast your party into Fortnite so you can bring your friends with you while you play. You opt into this feature by linking your Houseparty and Epic Games accounts on the Houseparty app.

Houseparty is a great resource for people right now and that they don’t need to miss out on gathering this award season. Houseparty is secure. There have been no data breaches and no exposure to customer data or third-party accounts. You can read their full statement on data safety to learn more.

Houseparty is available on iOSAndroidMacPC, and as a Google Chrome extension.

Huawei Tops Share of 5G Devices

Huawei tops share of active 5G-ready devices globally with Samsung, Apple lagging behind

Data analyzed by Finbold indicates that Chinese firm Huawei is leading in active 5G-ready devices with a share of 26.9% globally during Q4 2020. Samsung ranks second with a share of 25.1%, while Apple accounts for 19.5%. Vivo, another Chinese firm, controls a share of 11.8%, with Honor accounting for 6.9% of the active 5G-ready devices. The Finbold analysis also compared the share of 5G-ready devices between Samsung and Huawei from August 2020 to December 2020. The findings show that Samsung dominated the share for the four months before December.

In August, Samsung’s share was 45.2% against Huawei’s 10.2%. As of September, the South Korean manufacturer share increased to 48.1%, with Huawei accounting for 10.1%. The dominance continued in October, with Samsung taking a share of 48.6% while Huawei accounted for 9.5%. In November, both players saw their active 5G-ready devices share drop as Samsung accounted for 44.9% against Huawei’s 8.6%. As of December, Huawei flipped the status to rank top at 27%, with Samsung accounting for 25.1%.

Huawei leverages on pandemic to emerge top

The report explains circumstances that potentially contributed to Huawei emerging as a dominant force in active 5G-ready devices. According to the research report: “Like other industries, most of the manufacturers were impacted with Covid-19 disruption that affected global supply. However, Huawei appears to have sustained the downturn after China controlled the pandemic early, unlike competitors in the west which entered the pandemic’s second wave towards Q4.”

The growth of Huawei might soon be challenged since competitors are increasingly launching new 5G devices. For instance, Apple, with just one active 5G-ready device, ranked third.

Multi-talented Don Benjamin transitions from modeling to music

→ Los Angeles, California June 2020 – After a successful modeling career and placing in the top three of hit modeling competition show, America’s Next Top Model (ANTM), Don Benjamin takes aim at the music industry.

Benjamin’s music isn’t the traditional mainstream rap we’re used to hearing. He hopes his music influences our society in a positive way. “I’m a fan of Drake and J Cole. Lately, I’ve been listening to more gospel rap, artists like Bizzle, Eshon Burgundy, and Lecrae [noted Christian rappers]. Music lately feels so negative. It’s all about doing drugs and degrading women. I need something that is gonna feed my spirit and motivate me to be a better person,”

Don Benjamin on distinguishing himself from the direction of current mainstream rap artists:  “I don’t feel like much rap nowadays spreads positivity. Most songs that take off aren’t really saying much of anything. I want to spread a good message.”

During this time of unrest, Benjamin has taken a stand in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement and joined the music industries Blackout Tuesday. Other celebrities, including Beyoncé have used their social media platforms to demand justice for George Floyd and encourage their followers to take action.

5 Essential Skills of a Graphic Designer

Are you thinking of pursuing a career in graphic design? Be sure to master these essential skills of a graphic designer.

If you have a passion for art and would like to earn money from it, look no further.

Graphic design is something that many businesses invest in because it allows them to create customized advertisements. Aside from that, they can use graphic design for logos, essentially helping them make a name for themselves as a brand.

Most of the job skills of a graphic designer aren’t that hard to obtain, but they require a lot of patience and determination. Graphic design is an art, so you’ll have to spend time practicing before you’re ready to sell your work.

Keep on reading to learn about 5 essential graphic designer skills!

1. Creativity

One of the most important skills a graphic designer must have is creativity. As a graphic designer, you must be able to come up with new ideas on the fly. No graphic designer works with one client and all projects are unique.

When working with multiple clients, you’ll need to give them ideas that will help them achieve whatever their goals are. While it’s acceptable to have a certain style, you don’t want one client’s designs to look similar to another’s. This can create branding problems because consumers might confuse one client for another.

With creativity comes the ability to draw sketches, brainstorm, balance artistry with technique, and pay attention to detail. If you’re not a creative person, you’ll have a hard time coming up with ideas and helping clients see through theirs.

2. Communication

Communication is the most important skill after creativity. Graphic designers don’t pay themselves. Instead, they work with clients that pay them to complete projects. When working with clients, a graphic designer must be able to portray their ideas and give visual representations of what a client wants.

Graphic design skills revolve around being able to multi-task and work with a team, and communication will play a role in almost every task. Any time you make something, you’ll need to communicate it to your client.

Whenever a client makes a request, you must be able to fill in the gaps to understand what exactly they want.

This skill is especially important if you’re working remotely because it’s much harder to work with a client when you can’t see them in person. When working remotely, most of your communication will take place over video chats.

Without being able to quickly sketch something for a client, you need to know how to explain what you’re thinking about.

3. Time Management

Most graphic designers work with multiple clients at once because the work usually doesn’t take up an entire day. Because of this, a graphic designer must be able to effectively manage their time if they’d like to earn a decent income.

This line of work revolves around completing projects within a set period. When working with multiple clients, you must keep track of when projects are due. Most designers will allot certain hours to a client so that they can stay consistent while working.

Knowing when to prioritize a project is also important. For example, a project that has a deadline in 2 weeks should be focused on more than a project that’s due in 2 months. However, you can’t neglect anything as you must ensure that all projects are steadily progressing.

4. Technology

Understanding how to use technology is necessary when becoming a graphic designer because most of your work will take place on the computer across various programs.

You’ll need to know how to make something on a program and transfer it to another location while preserving its quality.

The most important thing to focus on is learning how to use the programs that you’ll be designing on. Programs like Photoshop provide users with a plethora of tools and features that allow them to manipulate their projects to their liking.

You’ll also need to know how your computer functions because Windows and Mac have many differences. For example, knowing how to remove icons from top bar Mac will give you more space to work on projects, something that many people are unaware of.

Tech skills will come in handy when working with clients remotely. You’ll have a better understanding of what kind of things you can get done and what will require in-person exchanges. You can then provide clients with this information so that they understand what needs to be done.

5. Typography

Typography is the skill of making text look visually appealing. This is often done with copywriting and it has a major role in graphic design. Typography skills typically come with creativity, but they’re something that most people should focus on because many clients will want text in their designs.

Keep in mind that most people looking for graphic designers are trying to create ads and build a brand. When you come up with a good font, your client can build off that and start getting recognized more often.
Now You Know the Skills of a Graphic Designer

Graphic design skills revolve around being artistic and knowing how to associate with clients. After obtaining the skills of a graphic designer, you can start working for clients and earn a decent income. Graphic design is something that will never go away, so you can get started whenever you’re comfortable.

We encourage you to start brushing up on your art skills. If you can’t draw but know how to design things on the computer, start focusing on that. When you’re ready to start taking clients, you simply need to find them on a job board or you can apply to companies.

6 Ways to Improve PC Performance

There is no getting away from slower computer performance over time. Technology is autonomous so you have to take care of your hardware and software if you like to expand their lifetime. We’ve all experienced slow loading speed and glitches on computers once they get clogged up by different things over time.

Fortunately, there are different methods to clean up all the things that affect your computer performance. However, if you like to keep everything running smoothly, you must do proper maintenance constantly.

In this article, we will go through some of the ways to improve PC performance so you would not need an upgrade.

1. Uninstall Unnecessary Applications

Most of us usually install some application that we need at the time and forget about it when we don’t even use it. These unnecessary applications are called bloatware by their technical term and they are considered to be useless things that eat up system resources, especially when you have start-up applications. It is very important to clean all the unused items that you can find in your computer.

2. Lower the Number of Startup programs

Usually, when your computer takes too much time to boot up, it means that it’s facing trouble by having so many different programs to start at the beginning. All of these programs will also run in the background of your PC and slow down your performance.

You have to open Task Manager and see which programs are eating most of your RAM memory. It is important to keep only essential programs on your startup menu and remove all others.

3. Check for Viruses

Viruses are the main problem in every computer and with today’s wide selection of unsafe websites that we visit you can easily get your computer infected. Even though Windows Defender does a good job protecting your PC from malware, you still have to install software that will keep your PC protected at all times. You should be careful choosing the right anti-virus software just because some of them can take too much space and memory from your RAM in order to run, which will only slow your computer even more. The best way is to create schedule scans and remove all the threats.

4. Disk Cleanup and Defragment

Disk cleanup is the best way to find any unnecessary files in your PC that you haven’t used for a while. It will free up drive space making your computer running smoothly. On the other hand, disk defragment is keeping your drives healthy by removing any gaps from deleted applications on the drive. You can also schedule disk to defragment on weekly basis so you would not have to worry about that.

5. Check your web browser

If the internet content such as websites, pictures or videos is loading slowly, you might take a look at your browser. Some browsers can slow your PC or create some lag, so make sure you are using a reliable internet browser. Also, you must check if your cache is cleaned, just because storing cache for a long time can also slow down your computer.

6. Consider an upgrade

If you successfully completed all the tasks that are mentioned above, then you should consider a small upgrade that will affect PC performance.

Usually, when it is speed in question you might consider two things:

• Upgrading your RAM

• Using startup SSD

RAM plays a big role in every computer’s performance. By upgrading your RAM memory your PC can be able to run more applications at the same time.

However, upgrading RAM memory on regular laptops is a very hard process and almost impossible, so you have to settle with the thing that came in the box. On the other hand, upgrading RAM on desktop is very easy and cheap process that you can do it yourself, but just make sure you have an extra slot in your motherboard.

If you are using a startup SSD your computer should boot up at incredible speed. This solid-state drive (SSD) is taking the pressure of the processors for faster boot time. This is a very powerful drive that can process everything at much greater speed. Since they are expensive, people buy small size 128GB units that should be enough only for the operating system. The rest of the files are stored on normal hard drive.

These are some of the ways where you can improve your PC performance. It is important that you keep everything organized and cleaned constantly, just so you avoid clogging up your computer to a point where is not fixable and keep it running as fast as a winning horse on the Breeders cup race.
