Marvel Judgment Day

From the revolutionary writer Kieron Gillen and legendary artist Valerio Schiti comes JUDGMENT DAY, the new Marvel Comics blockbuster that opens up the Marvel Universe like you’ve never seen it before.

Working on projects such as ETERNALS and IMMORTAL X-MEN, we see Gillen defining a brand-new storyline with the addition of Jason Aaron and Javier Garron’s AVENGERS. These three iconic Marvel sets come together to create intense expansions. Schiti, master narrator in the likes of EMPYRE and INFERNO, generates a new era of adventure in the Marvel universe when these Super Hero icons meet. JUDGMENT DAY serves as a fresh experience in the realm of Marvel Comics.

The story starts when the X-Men have gained full immortality, with mutants overlooking everyone on the globe. We find the Eternals uncovering information about their own species, with some shocking and destructive information uncovered about mutants. The Avengers face encounters with the Celestials as they use a plunged Celestial to discover more secrets of the kind. While the Eternals go after the mutant nation of Krakoa, the Avengers work to stop a possible apocalyptic war. The dispute turns out to be anything but easy, as new characters emerge on all sides as the people of the Marvel Universe are judged for what they must face.

Gillen spoke on JUDGMENT DAY, stating, “There’s a classic metaphor to describe the Marvel Universe – a toybox, which creators take toys out of, play with and put back. I get it, but it’s never quite how I’ve seen it – I think ‘play’ in another way. I think of a music shop, with all these instruments with their different qualities suggesting different songs, different stories. For all the Marvel instruments I’ve played, I’ve never written an event. Writing an event is something different. It’s not like playing an instrument. It’s having all the instruments in the Marvel music shop. That’s not like writing a song. That’s like writing a symphony.

“I looked at everything in ETERNALS and IMMORTAL X-MEN and everything else all the X and Avengers writers have done and thought… yeah, this is an event. In fact, an event is the only way to do justice to this. The Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson described the music he was reaching for as Teenage Symphonies to God. I think that’s what the best Marvel Events aspire to be, and it’s what we’re aspiring to here. I want the scale. I want the heartbreak . I want a book that wears its heart on its sleeve even as it puts a fist in your face. I want something Wagnerian in its volume as emotional as God Only Knows.”

Schiti, too, added to the conversation, while stating, “It is great to have the opportunity to draw another Marvel event after Empyre. The difference is that last time I was just excited, but now I know how high the expectations are, so now I am both excited and a bit scared! Luckily for me I have the great Kieron Gillen and Marte Gracia watching my back and together we can face any cosmic threat!”

Make sure you take full advantage of FREE COMIC BOOK DAY: AVENGERS/X-MEN #1 on May 7 to get your first glimpse on the hit. Get ready for more news surrounding JUDGMENT day and upcoming issues of ETERNALS, IMMORTAL X-MEN, X-MEN and AVENDERS in the new few weeks. For more info, visit Marvel.com.

US TROOPS PREPARE FOR DEPLOYMENT

February 2, 2022 the Pentagon announced that United States President Joe Biden signed off on the deployment of 3,000 US troops to Poland, Germany and Romania amidst the increasing presence of Russian military near the border. This presence has caught the attention of Ukraine and fellow NATO allies, as a potential invasion of the country may be initiated by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Prior to the announcement of the distribution of troops, 8,500 US troops were placed on high alert for potential NATO Response Forces. The broadcast of this news came as no shock, but officials have continued to insist that they would not be deployed long-term and wouldn’t be inflicting battle.

Pentagon press secretary John Kirby stated, “These forces are not going to fight in Ukraine… We want to make sure that he knows any move on NATO is going to be resisted, and it’s going to trigger Article Five, and we’re going to be committed to the defense of our allies.”

Though an invasion from Russia has not been confirmed, it has been urged by Ukrainian officials to not refer to the threat as “imminent.”

Kirby spoke on this subject matter, communicating that the use of the word sent a false message to the public, suggesting that the conquest was going to take place.

Kirby did state, however, if Putin decided to conquer Ukraine, “obviously there’s going to be consequences for that.”

The repositioning of troops includes around 2,000 troops leaving directly from the US, with 1,000 troops presently based in Germany relocating to Romania. The pentagon has stated they are “not ruling out the possibility that there will be more” troop developments.

ROLLS-ROYCE PHANTOM ORCHID

Rolls-Royce recently announced their latest inspirational piece, the Rolls-Royce Phantom Orchid. Designed specifically with Singapore in mind, the Phantom is extremely rare as just one singular model has been produced. Looking to the orchid for motivation, the team chose this reference to serve as a representation of beauty and strength. Serving as a withstanding focal point in the history of art, this marks the first instance of an orchid being incorporated into a Rolls-Royce commission. Exemplifying the attributes of elegance and glamour with a light but edgy flow comes to Rolls-Royce Phantom Orchid.

BESPOKE COLLABORATION

The new commission comes as a partnership with the Bespoke Collective and the withstanding Rolls-Royce team. This imperative duo saw the likes of top designers and artists coming together to create a work of art.

Michael Bryden, Lead Designer, Rolls-Royce Bespoke, spoke on the Phantom and how it came to its full loveliness. He stated, “[the] Phantom Extended, our pinnacle motor car, was chosen to be the ‘blank canvas’ for this commission. Our concept envisaged a balanced yet progressive design, which echoes the values of the Singapore region. The orchid is seen in many facets of Asian life, a reminder that the resilient adapt and thrive regardless of the evolving environment. Phantom is the only motor car in the world to feature the Gallery, a space that enables one to exhibit art, sculptures, or objects of self-expression in the sanctuary of Phantom’s interior. For Phantom Orchid, we collaborated with award-winning artist Helen Amy Murray to create a unique, hand-sculpted silk artwork. The delicate materials and techniques that were deployed in the creation of this piece are protected behind an application of pure glass, that runs uninterrupted across the fascia of Phantom. Finished in an elegant blend of Grace White, Havana and Smoke Grey with Dark Olive stitching, the interior evokes the calm and serene nature which is inherent to the character of Phantom.”

HAND-SCULPTED ART

Through the association with Helen Amy Murray and her team, a new wave of work with Phantom’s Gallery has been generated. Their fresh and innovative design transformed the interpretation of a motor car’s presence.

Helen found creativity from the orchid, often referencing the Singapore Orchid, hence as to why the commission was constructed with the location as muse. She worked around the clock, totaling over 200 hours of subtlety refining her designs with her team of six.

The design came to initially through Helen’s hand drawings and sketches, before moving to a digital media that would ensure the success of the piece. Through the virtual enhancements, the team was able to print the art directly onto the silk crepe satin. More handwork came into play for the final part of the layout process, where they hand-molded the flowers to stimulate a 3D force.

ORCHID SANCTUARY

Rolls-Royce Bespoke Designer Yohan Benchetrit worked his magic on the interior of the Phantom. He started with an orchid-motivated Picnic Table Inlay through the rear of the suite. Moving on, Bespoke treadplates were an addition that mimicked a like theme sans text to all who hopped into the motor car. Natural colors finished out the interior of the Phantom, adding to the luxurious experience imitated.

GLORIOUS EXTERIOR

To add to the exclusivity of this Phantom, a distinct paint was crafted using advanced, modern paint technology. The color started with a base of Arctic White with a light tint of violet was laid over, motivated by the main inspiration for the piece, orchids. The addition of fine glass particles within the paint color establishes a dazzling aura.

Addison Grace – “I Wanna Be A Boy”

Musician and TikTok phenomenon Addison Grace released their single, “I Wanna Be A Boy,” that discusses their own intimate tour with gender. Throughout writing the song and exploring what gender truly meant to them, Addison was able to discover their pronouns – he/they – and come out as nonbinary. Addison sings, “I guess I wanna be a boy,” coming full terms with this sincere and profound message.

Listen to “I Wanna Be A BoyHERE.

Addison pondered with never releasing the song past his own social media, but after posting it online and observing the feedback, he knew that it deserved an appropriate debut. While speaking with B Drop, Addison states, “I initially started writing it when I was questioning a lot of things about myself. I’m very open with how I identify online and I’ve always openly been a queer creator, queer musician, and at that time I was really not understanding how I identified with my gender and how I felt about it, and so it started off as a song about gender roles and how I was jealous of guys and how they got to have certain things I couldn’t have. With time, I realized it was very much me explaining — in song form — that I wasn’t a girl and that I was nonbinary instead.

“A lot of people ended up relating to the song. I had trans men relating to it saying “I’ve always felt like that.” I’ve had trans women being like “I used to deny I was a woman and I wanted to be a boy; I wanted to be “normal” — quote, unquote. I even had my friends who were born female and identify as female feel that way because they felt they were a tomboy and never fit in with the “girlie girls” so to speak.” He continues, “Even though, for me, it’s a song about gender identity and finding myself in that way, I think really at the core — it becomes a song about not understanding yourself and wishing so desperately that you could and it’s a very vulnerable song for that reason.”

The cover art for the piece showcases several images of Addison while they were growing up, at different time periods. He talks about this, saying, “I feel like a lot of my work recently has been about growing up and about those awkward moments in your life, so for this song, I wanted it to be a collage of my face growing up. I didn’t want it to be something someone had drawn. I wanted it to be realistic so I searched through a bunch of scrapbooks and I found pictures of two-year old me, 10-year old me, 15-year old me and a picture of me from last year and we ended up crafting it all together because I’ve always loved the idea of putting photos together and it makes something else. I wanted to put stickers and all that because when you’re finding yourself, it feels like these weird puzzle that don’t fit quite right, so I wanted it to look slightly off… I really love it and it feels really nostalgic to me.”

The journey of coming out as non-binary for Addison was a difficult road and is something that he aims to inspire others with. They strive to empower individuals with the power to live their own lives as genuinely as possible. Through sharing his own journey, Addison nurtures the idea that gender identity is a voyage that they went on and hope that others can embark on as well.

More about Addison Grace

With an outstanding 3.8 million followers on TikTok, almost 400k followers on Instagram and close to 200k YouTube subscribers, Addison Grace become an online sensation through hard work and dedication. He began his journey online with an iPhone 6 and a dream, often encouraging his own audiences to follow their dreams despite their situations. Addison stands as waterproof that anyone can become an artist if they’re dedicated to the craft, stating, “You’re enough and what you’re doing is enough.”

As an activist for the LGBTQIA+ community, upcoming artists and mental health, Addison is known for disclosing his own individual experiences living with ADHD. He makes sure to communicate to his fanbases that “normal” is a made-up concept, and that the truth is very real. They transmit the importance of the truth with “I Wanna Be A Boy,” which you can stream everywhere now.
