Best Luxury Hotel × History

Have you ever entered a place and feel the historic energy coursing through your bones? In this week’s compilation, we suggest hotels around the world that are filled with history and will certainly make you feel like taking a stroll down memory lane. 360 Magazine is happy to see such beautiful hotels have a huge history attached to them.

NEW: Hotel Motto – Vienna, Austria

The historic building has housed hotels for over three centuries with the first property, The Gold Cross, opened in 1665, which then morphed into Hotel Kummer in 1872 to became a social hub for artists, painters, sculptors, writers, actors, and musicians who gathered for coffee, wine and Austrian delicacies in the hotel’s public spaces. In 1904 the building was refurbished by Ludwig Schwarz, who preserved the original slanted corners and the oversized columns that frame the lobby and entryway to the hotel. The décor of the upper floors was especially elaborate and the interiors have been partially preserved to this day, even after the allied occupation of post-World War II Vienna when the hotel was taken over by the French from 1945 to 1955. Another historical nugget is that Hotel Motto was the birth home of Josef Strauss, son of the famous composer Johann Strauss, who called the hotel home in 1827.

Today Hotel Motto boasts of 83 rooms and 8 suites showcasing fabric-covered walls with floral patterns; custom-designed carpets and tiles are inspired by the framework of the original vintage furniture, and the herringbone hard-wood flooring is seen throughout the property.

NEW: Maalot – Rome, Italy

Located in the original residence of famous Italian composer Gaetano Donizetti (1797 – 1848), known for operas such as Don Pasquale, Lucia di Lammermoor, and Maria Stuarda, Maalot Roma aims to attract a multigenerational clientele looking for a vibrant yet cozy locale to gather with their loved ones in the most central part of Rome. A restaurant and a bar are immersed in a glass roof veranda. Signature elements of the 30 distinctive rooms showcase paintings of hats that depict the “setting your hat down and feeling at home” mood.

Designed to celebrate life and social gathering, Maalot’s restaurant Don Pasquale is set to be an all-day dining experience for locals and hotels guests. Named after one of the most renowned works of Gaetano Donizetti, the restaurant is a place to relax, enjoy a cocktail or a glass of wine alone or in good company.

NEW: Atelier Inès. Arts & Suites – Naples, Italy

Set in Naples’ Vergini district, right in the center of the old town, the grounds where this new hospitality experience is located were between 1900 and 1930 an open-air cinema and theatre. Annibale Oste’s grandfather then erected the building in 1947 and since then it has been the home of the Oste family. In 1980 the ground floor started hosting Annibale’s art studio where he designed and hand-made each and every art piece found around the world in hotels, art galleries and concept stores, public spaces, private collections, and so on.

Nowadays Annibale’s son Vincenzo, together with artist wife Inès, are at the helm of the family hotel featuring six bespoke suits, a showroom, a jewelry boutique, and a common living area dedicated to art and gastronomy experiences. Guests can join creative workshops to craft their own pieces of jewelry and interior design and enjoy a one-to-one lesson with Vincenzo.

Vilòn Roma: Rome, Italy

Opened in 2018, this boutique hotel caters to cultured, independent globetrotting guests while also welcoming the city’s urban elite. However, the history of the building dates back to the middle of the 16th century. Then it was the historical residence belonging to the powerful and princely Roman family of the Borghese. In 1841, Princess Adelaide (who’s hotel restaurant was named after) entrusted the building to the French nuns of the order of the Daughters of the Cross and they founded, the First School for Poor Girls in an attempt to create an institution for less fortunate girls, where they could receive an education that would equip them for a more positive future.

In recent history, the Vilòn welcomed modern-day royalty when Harry and Meghan stayed at the exquisite Vilòn Suite in September 2019.

Borgo Santo Pietro: Tuscany, Italy

Situated in the heart of Tuscany near Siena, Borgo Santo Pietro is a 5-star luxury resort with a holistic spa, cooking school, Michelin-starred restaurant, 300-acre organic farm, vineyards, and 13-acre beautifully manicured gardens. Each of our 22 rooms and suites is individually styled, inspired by the villa’s rich history, with bespoke details executed by local craftsmen and our in-house artisans using traditional techniques. Pioneer of nature-meets-luxury hospitality and slow-living concept, Borgo Santo Pietro lives up to its history of healing and seclusion – once a place of pilgrimage many found refuge, healing, and regeneration in the place that we now call Borgo San Pietro.

Life House Nantucket: New England, USA

Life House Nantucket is the oldest continually operating inn on the island. The 1833 building on Cliff Road, at one of the highest points on the island, was once a personal retreat for Captain Robert Calder in between whaling expeditions before he opened it up to travelers in 1870.

Today, Life House Nantucket is a nonchalant innkeeper’s eclectic escape that reflects her flair for cultivating the island’s native botany and practicing holistic wellness.

Lana Love – Loaded Gun

Upcoming alt-pop sensation Lana Love has shared her newest single and music video “Loaded Gun.” Backed by a choir of electric and acoustic guitars, Lana’s single underscores the internal battle she faces within herself, as the different sides of her identity are at odds with each other. Fans can watch the music video for “Loaded Gun,” premiering now on Aesthetic Magazine, HERE.

On the new single, Lana shares, “If Post Malone and Lady Gaga (Joanne era) had a song baby, she would be “Loaded Gun”. Production-wise, every element was live recorded from analog to digital. The trap beat was created with trigger pulls, spinning spurs, a 1960s saloon piano, Post Malone inspired 808s, an anti-chorus ear-gasm, and original background vocals we kept in from the demo I recorded in my bedroom. I truly believe Matt Genovese is the only producer who could’ve accomplished this sound in the way he did.”

She continues, “This song is about shooting yourself in the foot just when things start to get good. We all have a dark side that gets to us sometimes—a classic self-sabotage story. The lyrics shine a light on that self-defeating behavior pattern in faith that we have power to change the narrative of who wins.”

The music video for “Loaded Gun” conjures up images of classic western films with a space age twist, finding Lana as a lone ranger in a desert and battling a dark hologram of herself.

“The music video was heavily inspired by my pandemic-induced Star Wars/Mandalorian binge,” Lana admits.

Fans can pre-save “Loaded Gun” ahead of its release tomorrow HERE

Lana Love has announced that her self-titled EP will be released on October 1. Completely self-owned, this EP will share the story of Lana’s turbulent experience in the music industry featuring a plethora of genre shifts, fervent heartbreak, and medical stress.

Every once in a blue moon an artist emerges with an undeniable arsenal of talents and embarrassment of riches, and such is the case with contemporary pop artist Lana Love. The Atlanta-born juggernaut fully embodies the spirit of being multifaceted as a singer, songwriter, classically trained pianist/musician, trained dancer, actor and burgeoning entrepreneur.

About Lana Love

The genesis for Lana‘s musical journey started in Naples, Florida as a precocious 4-year old who was obsessed with Andrew Lloyd Weber’s iconic “Phantom of The Opera” and started playing the song, “Music of the Night,” by ear on piano in her living room. From that auspicious beginning, Lana has been immersed in honing and expressing her artistry in every medium available. By age 7, she had written her first song. She later studied music at the University of Florida and the American Music Theater and Dramatic Academy in New York.

In her late teens, she was featured in several musical productions as a singer/actor/dancer produced by Disney and Nickelodeon that were presented internationally in over 20 countries throughout Europe. Back in the US she has amassed a number of television credits on programs that were broadcast by HBO, Warner Brothers, Discovery Channel, YouTube and Telemundo. She has also opened for mega rappers like Snoop Dogg and Wu Tang Clan, among others, dabbled in EDM and been a featured guest artist on RAF MC’s Latin dance track, “Baila.”

Currently, Lana is the epitome of a female entrepreneur in a male-dominated field. Between finally owning 100% of her masters and joining the ranks alongside the few women that have broken the digital currency barrier with an NFT venture on the horizon, Lana is a lyricist for the Netflix documentary Malinche, written by Nacho Cano and orchestrated by Hans Zimmer.

An entrepreneur and businesswoman at heart, Lana Love’s story continues to exponentially blossom. She is spreading the one message she holds most dearly: everything, absolutely everything, is LOVE.

The collaboration wine is a limited production blend made for the company’s 300,000-plus Wine Club and is positioned as July’s “Wine of the Month”. While the wine debuted at a members-only Wine Club dinner hosted by Florence in Naples, Florida on June 20th, restaurant guests can sample the blend by the glass in the dining and tasting rooms throughout the month of July in any of Cooper’s Hawk 32 restaurants.
“Collaborating with the very best chefs and winemakers not only elevates the Cooper’s Hawk brand, but raises the bar for the entire hospitality industry,” says Cooper’s Hawk Founder & CEO Tim McEnery. “Working with Tyler on our second wine collaboration has been one of the most educational experiences to date. His curious palate and deep knowledge of wine helped create an exceptional Sauvignon Blanc.”

I am laser-focused on creating exciting flavor profiles, so wine was a natural next step for me a decade ago,”says Florence. “The Cooper’s Hawk philosophy of blending brings great freedom to the world of winemaking and allows them to move with the trends. We used grapes from Monterey County to create a wine with aromas of lemon, orange, melon, grass, grapefruit and gooseberry with whimsical tropical flavors like guava, kiwi and passion fruit. The finish is crisp and loaded with green apple and citrus fruit.”

La Divine Comédie

Tracy Paul & Company Inc. launches La Divine Comédie, the most exclusive French property in the heart of Avignon.

Tracy Paul & Company Inc. is proud to announce its representation of La Divine Comédie, an exquisite luxury property located in the most treasured setting within Southern France. The hotel resort La Divine Comédie is a 19th century mansion, comprised of 5 spectacular suites. Each suite has it’s own unique style, inspired by Gilles Jauffret the renowned French interior designer as well as one of the properties owners. He has meticulously thought of every detail throughout the entire compound.

There are some places which seem to have an eternal soul, transmitted through the ages, from one occupier to another. Certain individuals have the gift of giving free rein to the spirit present within these walls, and of respecting the building’s unique character. Listening to the echoes of its past and reading the lines of its own story. This is true of the lucky occupiers of La Divine Comédie, who have devoted themselves, heart and soul, to breathing life into one of Avignon’s most particular private residences, using their creative talents and impeccable artistic taste to bring out the very best in every inch of the 2,600 m2 space.

The grounds of the hotel contain a spa & wellness center as well as a large outdoor swimming pool. The hotel also has the largest private garden directly centered in the middle of Avignon, with over 100 varieties of trees and plants. The owners Amaury and Gilles wanted to create a true haven of calm and tranquility in the heart of the city. Yet the hotel is just footsteps away from the Pope’s Palace, restaurants, shopping and all the other attractions offered in one of France’s most historic romantic cities.

La Divine Comédie is, first and foremost, a garden to be found behind high walls. Catch your first glimpse from the outside as the gentle breeze stirs the leaves of the ancient plane trees, hinting at this oasis of calm right in the city center. The light and airy house can be seen through the open gate, inviting and casting a spell over its visitors, who can all too easily fall in love with its mysterious, mesmerizing charm. The garden and the house come together to tell an enchanting, enticing tale of discovery and pleasure. Pass through the open doors to enjoy the hedonistic pleasures of La Divine Comédie, a dreamlike, but very real, paradise.

THE ANATOLE SUITE

The Anatole suite tells the tale of Uncle Anatole, a seasoned traveller recently returned from abroad, bringing a whole collection of souvenirs. Two magnificent, antique model boats show his love for the sea.

Anatole also collects orientalist paintings, particularly Cortès and Pascal; the mirrors, screen and the 18th Century canopy over the bed are other gems brought back from his travels. The antechamber is home to a desk, perfect for planning the next trip.

Visitors to the suite are greeted by a portrait of Anatole in his younger years.

Suite size : 50 m2

THE APHRODITE SUITE

The Aphrodite suite features a spectacular round bed, surrounded by soft, diaphanous draped voile, the perfect place to relax in privacy. The suite is decorated in soothing greys and blues, reflecting the soft tones of an 18th Century Vernet-style screen. A number of extremely fine orientalist paintings add to the overall effect.

The suite opens out onto a private terrace of 30m2, with spectacular views on the garden. Visitors are welcome to take their breakfast or to enjoy an aperitif on the terrace. The suite also features a second, smaller room.

Suite size : 50 m2

THE CONSUL SUITE

The Consul suite is decorated in the style of the Napoleonic period, when the fashion was for all things exotic. A collection of lithographs of the Bosphorus in the antechamber sits alongside a superb collection of antique trunks. The typical furniture, notably the armchairs – replicas of the throne of Tutankhamun – is set off by a palate of warm cumin, black and brown tones.

The orientalist spirit can also be seen in a series of engravings representing Napoleon’s first trip to Egypt, reflecting the fashion for exotic travel. The suite is oriented west, offering a glimpse of the Papal Palace from the windows.

Suite size: 50 m2

THE NAPLES SUITE

The Naples suite is home to a stunning collection of gouache paintings of Mt Vesuvius erupting. The artworks are set off by the matte grey walls of the main room. Three huge, south-facing windows look out over the garden. Majestic bed hangings, suspended from an 18th Century canopy, sit alongside a modern headboard designed by Gilles Jauffret. The simple, clean lines of the light fixtures, imported from Morocco, add a graphic touch to the décor.

Suite size: 50 m2

THE VENICE SUITE

The Venice suite features a collection of over 40 18th– and 19th-Century oil paintings of the Italian city, set against a backdrop of blue and grey tones.

Enjoy the beauties of Venice without leaving Provence! Much of Avignon’s palatial architecture is inspired by Italian art, as Papal legates commissioned their favorite artists to work on their residences in the city.

The suite also features a 1920s Iris chandelier and 1970s shell chairs, the perfect place to enjoy some of our collection of works on Venice.

Suite size : 50 m2
