Trends within the cannabis industry

There is so much happening in the cannabis industry and so many things that attract attention. Cannabis is starting to be legalized across many parts of the world after being an illegal substance for a very long time. The stigma that surrounded cannabis is slowly starting to fade as well and society, in general, is beginning to embrace this herb. Medical marijuana is also something that is starting to become very popular in society and this has contributed towards the growth of the cannabis industry and today about 158.8 million people use marijuana around the world. There are some trends within the cannabis industry that have resulted in the evolution of the industry, such as the sale of dry herb vaporizers at online stores like MagicVaporizers, and these trends, which will be discussed in this article, are fuelling the popularity of marijuana.

Rise of CBD

CBD, which is one of the main active ingredients in the cannabis plant, has become increasingly popular. Unlike THC, CBD does not produce any psychoactive effects, instead, it provides users with many health benefits. Researchers and medical professionals are intrigued by CBD and new information about the chemical is constantly being released. A few of the health benefits of CBD include:

  • Pain relief
  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Anxiety relief
  • Anti-depressant
  • Induces sleep
  • Increases appetite

It is legal to buy CBD products in the United States and many other places around the world making CBD legal. There are many benefits that you get from CBD including the many health benefits without the psychoactive high.

Cannabis tourism

Ask anyone 50 or even 20 years ago and they would tell you that they would never predict that cannabis tourism would become a trend in society. Cannabis tourism allows individuals to embark on tours while consuming cannabis. The tours provide people with the opportunity to enjoy leisure time while enjoying a nice high and they are very popular. An example of cannabis tourism is the Tweed Visitor Centre located in Smiths Falls where you can take a tour of real grow rooms and you can even watch them make chocolate edibles. You can attend a cannabis café, a tour, a festival, or even take a ride on a tour bus while smoking a lovely strain. The fact that this is even a thing shows just how much society is embracing cannabis and how popular it is. These tours are great for the cannabis industry as well as for the economy.

Edibles and beverages

Edibles and beverages are consumables that are infused with cannabis. During the cooking or brewing process, cannabis is added and this allows it to infuse into the product so that when it is consumed, you feel the effects of the substance. This is one of the easiest ways to consume cannabis and people love it because the high is more potent and it lasts much longer than when you consume through other methods such as smoking for example. The benefit of consuming marijuana this way is the reduced health risk and you can infuse any edible or beverage with cannabis including ice cream, brownies, tea, and beer.

Topicals

Topicals are another popular cannabis trend and it is when lotions, creams, oils, or balms are infused with cannabis. To consume this way, you simply apply the topical onto your skin and wait for the effects. People consume cannabis this way because it does not produce a psychoactive high and when topicals are applied to your muscles or joints, it relieves pain and stiffness. This method of consumption is very popular amongst athletes. An example of a topical is CBD-infused coconut oil that you can apply to your skin.

Terp sauce

Terp sauce is not widely known however it is trending within the cannabis industry. It is a marijuana extract that consists of more than 50% terpenes which is a very fragrant oil that is found in different plants, including the cannabis plant and terpenes are responsible for the plant smell and unique taste. Terp sauce also contains cannabinoids as well as other compounds. You can consume terp sauce by dabbing it or simply adding it to your vaporizer, bong, pipe, or joint. People consume marijuana this way because it is very potent and the benefits are that it is good for relaxation and mood elevation.

Hydration Benefits

The best ways to hydrate & the benefits of alkaline water.

We all know that water is foundational to our well-being. Our health and our life depend on it. Yet, an estimated 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated, a figure that is exacerbated by the constant consumption of caffeinated beverages, alcohol and diets high in sodium. We’ve all experienced fatigue, irritability, headaches, or a foggy mind from dehydration. So why not pay more attention to how we hydrate? The simple act of drinking refreshing alkaline water, monitoring consumption, and developing better hydration habits can boost energy, support skin and immune health, and so much more. Here’s how you can get started.

What is Alkaline Water?

Alkaline water has a higher pH level, typically 8 or 9, as opposed to regular water which taps out around 7. Water with a higher pH can help balance the acid in your body, support a healthy immune system, keep things moving, and ultimately achieve a more premium state of hydration. For these and many other benefits, alkaline water has been deemed the go-to water option in achieving optimum hydration.

One brand we recommend is, Perfect Hydration (pH) Alkaline Water, which has a pH level of 9.5 and a unique blend of electrolyte minerals, without the sodium and chlorine used by most other water brands. Ultra-purified and ionized, pH’s 9 stage-filtration process also results in an incredibly crisp and refreshing taste, making it easier to consume higher quantities of water at a time.

Who should drink alkaline water?

Short answer – everyone! Alkaline is safe to drink at all ages and stages of life. Over the past year as many people transitioned to work from home due to the pandemic, alkaline water has become a popular choice for consumers looking to support their immune health, particularly those increasingly seeking solutions that can be easily incorporated into their daily routines.

Alkaline water has also been adopted by many top tier athletes – including Julian Edelman (NFL Wide Receiver), Alfonzo McKinnie (NBA Player), Livlo Golding (Fitness Expert), Summer Fenton (Professional Snowboarder) and Sierra Blair Coyle (Professional Rock Climber) – who have all partnered with Perfect Hydration to keep their bodies in a peak, hydrated state for ultimate performance. Any athlete knows that water consumption to replace sweat loss is essential in thermoregulation and preventing cramps, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and more.

In the hot, summer months, hydration becomes even more important. Avoiding products with high sugar and sodium levels is key among health-minded individuals who are swapping complicated, sugar-dense beverages with functional beverages that serve the body.

What Alkaline Water Can Do For You

Beyond hydration and immunity, alkaline water is believed to have properties that aid in:

  • detoxifying the body
  • weight loss
  • cancer resistance
  • colon-cleansing
  • reducing bone loss
  • reducing headaches and inflammation
  • stress management
  • improving metabolism and digestion

Size Matters

In attempting to keep the body in an optimum state of hydration, consuming adequate quantities water is key. Recommended daily intake of water ranges from about 11-16 cups or 88-128 oz. But the average intake among Americans is about 3.9 cups per day, indicating that small sips from a glass throughout the day just isn’t enough. Keeping a liter or more on hand at all times allows you to track the amount of water you are consuming to ensure your hydration goals are met.

Perfect Hydration recently launched a 1.5 liter bottle and one-gallon bottle at select Ralph’s stores in southern California and CVS stores across the US. These new sizes are flying off the shelves as consumers call for function, value and convenience in every water product they purchase.

Currently Trending…

The alkaline water industry is catching on to consumer’s desire for packaging beyond plastic, pushing beverage leaders to think about their sustainability practices. This year, Perfect Hydration is launching their premium, enhanced water in 16.9 oz. recyclable aluminum cans to meet the growing demand for functionality, hydration, and sustainability. They are also converting their 1-liter, 1.5-liter and 1-gallon bottles to post-consumer recycled plastic (rPET) as a part of their commitment to serve the wellness of consumers and the health of the planet.

Unlike other brands that mine water sheds and mineral springs, pH uses US-based renewable water sources. They don’t have to ship water to or from remote locations across the globe, which means lower carbon emissions as a result of less freight. In addition, Perfect Hydration’s current bottles are made of BPA-free, 100% recyclable PET-1, which is the most commonly recycled plastic on the planet.

Perfect Hydration is also an Official Supporter of the American Red Cross, offering $250k in donations that benefit disaster relief and blood services programs.

Their model proves proper hydration can be achieved in tandem with eco-conscious and community-based efforts.

A Bright Future

It may not surprise you that global sales and consumption of alkaline water continues to steadily rise, with sales growth consistent at more than 40% per year since 2013, according to a report by Zenith Global. Its benefits are wide reaching, and the crisp taste has consumers coming back for more.

We have been seeking an impactful way to give back to our communities when they need it most. Perfect Hydration recognizes the Red Cross has a critical role in leading efforts to provide lifesaving services during this devastating pandemic and beyond. “The Red Cross is proud to count Perfect Hydration as a partner in making sure we can continue to deliver our lifesaving mission nationwide due to this public health emergency,” said Don Herring, chief development officer at the American Red Cross. “Your gift helps ensure that the Red Cross can help patients in need of blood and ensure that, due to the coronavirus outbreak, we are able to provide critical relief services to people affected by disasters big and small.”

As an Official Supporter of the Red Cross, Perfect Hydration’s donation of cash will help build community resiliency and bring relief to people across the U.S. who are recovering from disasters like wildfires, extreme weather events. At a time when the need for blood and plasma donations are at an all-time high due to COVID-19, bottles and new cans of Perfect Hydration Alkaline Water will be provided to hydrate Red Cross’ blood service donors and volunteers.

Through the power of their influencer and partner networks, Perfect Hydration will garner additional awareness of their tireless work during unprecedented times.

“If 2020 has taught us one thing, it’s that life can be unpredictable,” said Julian Edelman, Patriots Wide Receiver and Perfect Hydration Partner. “We all want to feel like someone has our back, and the Red Cross provides that feeling for so many people in need. I am proud to be a part of the Perfect Hydration team and fully support the contributions to the Red Cross.”

“I was so excited to hear that Perfect Hydration will be working alongside such an important and influential charity,” said Livlo Golding, fitness and wellness expert and Perfect Hydration Ambassador. “I’m all about wellness, and sometimes staying well requires help from our community and organizations like the Red Cross. I’m looking forward to seeing how pH will support the Red Cross’s disaster relief and blood services efforts this year.”

Perfect Hydration enhanced alkaline water can be found in recyclable bottles, recycled plastic bottles and new aluminum cans at convenience, mass, drug and grocery stores nationwide and online via Amazon and Instacart. For more information, visit their website or follow the brand on Instagram or Facebook.

Go Dash Dot – Bags & Booze

Go Dash Dot has been serving up the most fashionable and functional bags for the woman-on-the-go, but a girl wants a drink every now and then, too right? Especially this year. To cool off during what is likely to be a scorching summer, the boutique brand has created artisanal cocktails that perfectly complement three of its most popular styles.

“After this winter and spring, we all need a cocktail!” says Go Dash Dot founder Hannah Fastov, with a laugh. “People have shown enormous patience, resolve and courage, so we wanted to add to that an element of fun. These cocktails are creative, whimsical and best of all delicious, and the perfect way to celebrate the summer.”

Fastov and her team looked to their bags as inspiration for ingredients and color and went to work creating exciting elixirs that bring cool to the hot season.

For its White Easy Tote, the team envisioned something fruity and refreshing: the “Skinny Bitch.” Made with 1 ounce of pineapple juice, two 1-ounce shot of vodka, ice, soda water and a pineapple wedge for garnish, it’s the perfect antidote for a steamy afternoon or evening.

Create your own Margaritaville with the “Minty Marg,” a creative twist on the classic inspired by Go Dash Dot’s popular Mint Chip Maya Backpack. Start with 2 cups of white grape juice, ¼ cup of tequila, ¼ triple sec, dash of lime juice, 2 cops of spinach, 4 cups of ice and fresh mint garnish and voila — a drink even Jimmy Buffett would savor.

Finally, it might look blue, but you won’t feel blue after imbibing the “Woman Warrior,” modeled after Go Dash Dot’s blue Denim Puffle. Hear her roar with 1 and 1/3 oz of vodka, 1/3 oz of Blue Curacao and 1/3 oz of lime juice

Go Dash Dot was founded in 2016 by Fastov, a fashion entrepreneur who has previously worked in product development and merchandising with Brooks Brothers and Rag and Bone. She sought to create a stylish line of bags for women that could serve multiple purposes: work, social engagements, gym, travel and other activities in a busy woman’s life. “It had to be fashionable, function and timeless” was the mission, Fastov said. She and her small team went to work creating several styles, including totes, backpacks, crossbodies and the signature “puffle,” which she imagined as a re-imagined duffel worn as a hand or shoulder bag or crossbody. The bags are thoroughly unique, featuring a separate compartment for footwear, padded laptop section, a snap in snap out pouch that can be worn as a crossbody or belt bag, laundry pouch, cell phone pocket, tons of additional pockets and compartments, and completely machine washable. They also come in a variety of colors. “The Go Dash Dot woman is active, ambitious, and fun loving. One adventure leads to the next and she needs a bag that can keep up with her,” Fastov says.

ALICE IN CHAINS × FEW SPIRITS

A.S.K. AND UNLOCK THE SECRETS: FEW SPIRITS, SEATTLE GRUNGE LEGENDS ALICE IN CHAINS COLLABORATE ON ALL SECRETS KNOWN, 101-PROOF BOURBON FINISHED IN TEQUILA BARRELS

“For us distilling, like making music, is about having the courage to ASK, ‘What if we…’ and being excited to find the answers – unlocking those secrets.” – Paul Hletko, Master Distiller, FEW Spirits

FEW Spirits and Warner Music Artist Services announce today the release of All Secrets Known, a new, limited-release bourbon distilled by FEW Spirits Master Distiller Paul Hletko in collaboration with Grammy-nominated and multi-platinum selling Seattle Grunge pioneers Alice In Chains, whose music has stood the test of time and influenced a generation. Bottles feature a custom-designed label by artist Justin Helton.

The Whiskey
All Secrets Known (SRP: $75/750 ml), a nod to the name of the opening track of Alice In Chains’ 2009 certified Gold release Black Gives Way To Blue, is FEW Bourbon finished for six months in tequila barrels and bottled at the most rock and roll of proofs, 101 (50.5% ABV). Bold, sweet, and spicy bourbon top notes that have become the hallmark of FEW and led to multiple category awards, are accentuated by grassy agave undertones.

Said Hletko, “There are no two spirits that have a closer association with rock and roll than whiskey and tequila. Bringing together elements of both, but in an unconventional, innovative way, is an illustration of what we try to do every time we distill a new product.”

The Collaboration
“Alice In Chains is part of one of very few movements that can be legitimately credited with shapeshifting an entire culture, beginning with their first album, Facelift,” continues Hletko. “For us distilling, like making music, is about having the courage to ASK, ‘What if we…’ and being excited to find the answers – unlocking those secrets. Nobody sounds like Alice In Chains. We were inspired by their courage to create a sound that flouted convention and thought, ‘There are lots of tequilas finished in bourbon barrels, but it’s rare to find a widely-available bourbon finished in tequila barrels. Let’s do that instead’.”

Added Matt Young, EVP of Warner Music Artist Services, “Our team always seeks out the best in the business when it comes to our artist product collaborations. FEW Spirits was a no brainer when the idea first came up to create an Alice In Chains Bourbon Whiskey.”

The Label Design
Artist Justin Helton, of Status Serigraph, is no stranger to working with musical giants like Phish, The Avett Brothers, My Morning Jacket, Ween, and The Black Keys created the custom label.

“I’ve been a fan of Alice In Chains forever with Jar of Flies being one of the first CD’s I ever owned,” says Helton. “‘I Stay Away’ and ‘No Excuses’ were on repeat in my room. For this design I found inspiration in the name All Secrets Known. The eye in the mouth is a play on seeing all that’s been spoken. The color scheme is a nod to Black Gives Way to Blue, the album on which the song ‘All Secret Known’ appears.”

Helton designed the label in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, also using a mix of hand-rendered illustrations with imagery from the 1800’s to create a distinct look.

A Legacy of Rock and Roll Partnerships
All Secrets Known is yet another foray for FEW Spirits into partnerships with internationally-renowned music acts. In 2006, Hletko partnered with The Flaming Lips to create Brainville Rye Whiskey.

“Brainville led to access,” Hletko said. “Doors started opening and I’ve always felt like when you get a chance to work with cool people you admire, you’ve got to at least check it out. As a long-time fan of Alice In Chains and someone who has at various points made his living as a guitar player, the opportunity to work with someone like Jerry Cantrell, whose sound is unlike any other, was one we were determined to see through come hell or high water.

Limited-release All Secrets Known will be available in CA, CO, IL, NY, and WA and for purchase online through ReserveBar.com.

About FEW Spirits
A grain-to-glass distillery since 2011, FEW Spirits produces award–winning craft whiskey and gin in a tucked away alley located in the growing Chicago suburb of Evanston, IL.. A historical town where Prohibition lasted until 1972, Founder & Master Distiller Paul Hletko changed the future of Evanston when he opened FEW Spirits Distillery, the first (legal) alcohol-production facility of any kind to ever open there.

Paul Hletko always knew he wanted to make craft spirits —produced in the local Chicago area—that offered something different, delicious and fun. Living in Evanston, a town that was prime for change after being dry for four decades post the repeal of prohibition, Paul felt it was the perfect home and backdrop for FEW and the brand. Deeply integrated into the brand story, both Evanston and Chicago are crucial elements of the FEW DNA and its inspiration. From its liquid, created from locally grown or sourced ingredients, to the look & feel of the design, which pays homage to the 1893 World’s Fair in Chicago— FEW is the true definition of a local Illinois craft spirit.

FEW Spirits features a refreshing and innovative portfolio including a stable of core spirits and several small batch limited edition specialty expressions. Each flagship spirit is a new take on the timeless liquors of the past; distilled from the very best grains, aged to perfection, and bottled under the FEW roof. The small batch limited editions hold true to the premium quality FEW drinkers have to come to love and expect from the brand, but offer something novel to the oft-ordinary taste and style we’ve all grown accustomed to.

In a world over saturated with mass-produced spirits, only few remain truly handcrafted, locally sourced and small-batched. FEW has never strayed from this—even as it grows, Paul and his team continue to provide consistently impeccable spirits that are true to their craft roots and reminiscent of their home base.
