EBEN × Dandelions

Rising singer, songwriter & producer EBEN has announced his highly-anticipated forthcoming project Dandelions, a 5-track collection and short film arriving August 12 via Atlantic Records/Signature Entertainment. The EP is preceded by lead single “Jenny,” with the official music video making its broadcast premiere today on MTV Live, MTVU and the Viacom billboard in Times Square.

Inspired by Forrest Gump, “Jenny” likens a doomed relationship with a cheater to the trials and tribulations of the iconic film’s namesake, while an organic bass line gives way to bold horns and handclaps as EBEN’s voice flutters from intimate verses into a hummable hook.

 “I was thinking, ‘Damn, Jenny put Forrest through it, and nobody really talks about that’,” said EBEN. “So, I decided to make a song. It’s about the moment of breaking up. You realize you’re always going to be hooked to this individual. You know it’s bad—but you keep going back. It’s not healthy. However, it’s the perfect intro to the ‘Dandelions’ story, and it’s got a nice summertime vibe.”

Co-penned/produced by EBEN alongside collaborators Asia Whiteacre (LouisTomlinson, 5 Seconds of Summer), Matt Campfield (Kehlani), Danny Klein and Modesty (H.E.R., Bebe Rexha) and featuring additional writing from Corbyn Besson of Why Don’t We, the Dandelions EP will drop alongside a stunning short film comprised of music videos for all five tracks. Directed by EBEN’s close friend Evan Hara, the movie was shot guerrilla-style over the span of three weeks along the West Coast from Portland throughout California. Together the EP and film take viewers on a psychological journey through the emotional stages of a breakup.

Hailed by Billboard for his “smooth pop-rap vocals” and deemed “immaculately polished”by Ones To Watch, EBEN has quickly risen to the ranks of today’s top new artists. The Cincinnati native made his major label debut with his 2020 Honeydew EP, which featured the earworm lead single “Sad Song” as well as rally cry anthem “The Kids Are Alright.”

Singer-songwriter Jax has premiered her highly anticipated new single “90s Kids” – available now via Atlantic Records. The nostalgia-fueled anthem became an instant fan-favorite after being previewed on TikTok late last year, packed with all the quintessential decade references from Tamagotchi to Britney Spears.

“I’m obviously a 90s kid, and grew up with all these amazing trends that I’m still obsessed with today” said Jax. “One night at 3am I was just thinking of all the times I’d watched ‘Saved By The Bell,’ played Super Smash Bros, danced to Britney Spears and I just put it all in a voice memo. Next thing I knew by sunrise I had this anthem to rep all my fellow 90s babies.”

“90s Kids” follows the release of “Ring Pop,” Jaxs major label-debut which yielded a massive viral response and high-profile appearances on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Access Hollywood & more. Initially teased on TikTok, “Ring Pop” instantly captivated fans with its honest lyrics that perfectly encapsulate the emotions being felt by so many in today’s predicament. Her warm delivery coasting over dreamy guitar and snappy percussion as she croons to her boyfriend, “Don’t need no diamonds, you’re my rock, and I’m okay with a ring pop.

Raised in New Jersey by way of New York, Jax got her start by performing a wide variety of genres and in bands growing up. At the age of 18, she developed cancer above her vocal cords, which returned following a couple months of remission right as she relocated to Los Angeles in pursuit of her music. Left unable to sing herself, Jax turned to songwriting for others and found industry success behind-the-scenes.

As her ability to perform returned, Jax needed to pivot yet again when the COVID-19 pandemic struck. This time she turned to TikTok, posting a hilarious response to the pop gem “Stacy’s Mom” from “Stacy’s Mom’s Perspective” which exploded with nearly 9 million views in just a few months and “Update from Avril Lavigne & Sk8er Boi 18 years later” which became her most successful parody to date with over 14.5 million views. She continued to go viral a dozen or more times over, eventually amassing over 1.6 million followers on the platform, 200 million total views and 28 million “likes.” With a massive online audience under her belt, Jax began sharing her own original music in late 2020 to an overwhelmingly positive response – ultimately leading to her singing with Atlantic Records for her forthcoming debut full-length.

ELECTRIC GUEST x DARELL x RVSSIAN: “FREESTYLE”

ALL-STAR COLLABORATION ARRIVES ALONGSIDE OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO STARRING THE ARTISTS SHOT IN MIAMI + CALIFORNIA.

Acclaimed indie-pop duo Electric Guest have teamed up with Puerto Rican reggaeton artist Darell and Jamaican producer Rvssian for today’s release of “Freestyle (feat. Darell & Rvssian)” – listen HERE.

The high-energy collaboration finds the Latin superstars lending their signature reggaeton spin to the track, originally featured on Electric Guest’s 2019 album KIN. The new version of “Freestyle” also arrives with a brand-new music video featuring the artists in their respective cities of Miami and Los Angeles – watch HERE.

The origins of the collaboration stem in large part from lead singer Asa Taccone’s desire to dive deeper into his Puerto Rican roots (courtesy of his father). While Puerto Rican culture and their heritage has always been celebrated by his family, Asa has long wanted to embrace this more within his music.

In the months before the pandemic, Asa’s father – who was directing John Leguizamo’s Broadway show ‘Latin History for Morons’ – came to an Electric Guest show in New York, bringing Leguizamo with him. They talked afterwards and encouraged him to explore the culture more.

Around that time, Electric Guest was looking to revisit album track “Freestyle” and considering releasing a new version with an added verse from a featured artist.

As Asa explains: “Freestyle was the last song we wrote for the album. It took us forever because we couldn’t figure out the chorus melody. We ended up doing a session with Ne-Yo at a studio in L.A. We sat down and played him the instrumental and he immediately started humming… after about 10 minutes we had the chorus that had eluded me for months. 

But the song kind of slipped under the radar. We had always wanted to do a video for it and possibly get a feature, but Covid hit while we were on tour and like the rest of the world, our cycle ground to a halt and we never really got around to it.

Asa has long been a fan of Darell and Rvssian’s music, so having them featured on a new version of the track felt like the perfect way to dip his toes into the Latin sound. After sending the song their way with the hopes of just a verse, he and bandmate Matthew Compton were sent back a fully-formed, almost entirely new version of the track that the Puerto Rican rapper and Jamaican producer had recorded in Miami.

“It was a totally different format… really their own take on it,” Asa shared. “I think everyone felt the same which was like, ‘Well that is… kind of a better version!’”

Speaking on their collaboration, Rvssian shares: “Remixing the song was fun because I had changed the production from one genre to another. And having Darell add his Latin touch on the vocals… this created a nice fusion.”

Darell adds: “When Rvssian hit me up to participate in this collab, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The end result I feel gives great vibes. For me, it’s always a pleasure to keep growing the culture and blending musical worlds together.”

On the making of the video, Asa shared: “The crew came up from Miami and – even though we were in masks – it was definitely a party on set. I think that vibe translated into the video… riding that horse was equal parts terrifying and fun.”

Electric Guest’s third album KIN was released in 2019, featuring standout tracks, “Dollar,” “Play With Me,” and “More.” The LP was met with critical acclaim, with Associated Press declaring “KIN is a breezy confection of fiendishly clever pop hooks augmented by some computer wizardry.” Uproxx also praised the project as “a masterclass in modern pop that’s anchored by real, genuine emotion.”

The band supported the album with a massive run throughout Europe and the United States, including back-to-back sold-out New York shows at Webster Hall and Music Hall of Williamsburg – with the latter added by overwhelming popular demand.

TIME included “More” in their ‘5 Best Songs of the Week,’ proclaiming it “a retro-inflected electro-pop tune that rings sweet and sincere.” The high-energy music video for the track was directed by Joe Weil (Kendrick Lamar, YG, Khalid) and premiered on People. In the exclusive premiere of the video for fan favorite, “Play With Me,” PAPER declared the visual: “part R&B music video parody + part fantasia — more music videos should tread this fine line, honestly.”

Dollar” came accompanied by an equally feel-good music video, directed by The Lonely Island’s Jorma Taccone and co-starring a fully operational hovercraft DeLorean. That visual had its exclusive debut via Complex, which wrote, “[‘Dollar’] is representative of the duo’s goal of entering this latest era with a desire to make straight up, unapologetic pop.”

Today, Grammy-winning songwriter and R&B artist Eric Bellinger releases his catchy second single SOLO’N from his upcoming album Eric B for President: Term 3 releasing via YFS Music/EMPIRE on October 30. LIVE NATION URBAN PRESENTS BLACK MUSIC MONTH TO COLLABORATE WITH VARIOUS ICONIC RECORD LABELS AND RELEASE EXCLUSIVE MUSICAL CONTENT ACROSS THE MONTH OF JUNE

Today, Live Nation Urban presents Black Music Month. Across the month of June, The Live Nation Urban team will collaborate with various iconic record labels each week on the release of exclusive musical content celebrating the footprint and evolution of black culture within the music industry. Content will include various music videos, artist clips, live show recaps and interviews reflecting on the history and success of each label, interviews and live performances.

The content will be available across each specific record label and Live Nation Urban’s social channels. Five labels have partnered with Live Nation Urban to partake in their celebration of Black Music Month. The list of labels include Atlantic Records, Columbia Records, Epic Records, Interscope Records, and Motown Records. Live Nation Urban’s “Meet The Founders” series airs weekly and serves as an explorative conversation with executives, crew and staff from a variety of brands, entertainment events and live shows on building their brands and experiences within the industry.

Each upcoming episode for the month of June will feature a record label executive in conversation about their history within the industry and how Black music has influenced their career. Past participants have included Brandon McEachern (Broccoli City Festival), Simone Mari & Gia Lowe (CURLFEST/Curly Girl Collective), Joi Brown (The Culture Creators & SVP of Marketing & Brand Partnerships at Atlantic Records), Ron Hill (Inspiration and Partner of Exodus Music & Arts Festival & VP of Artist Development at RCA), and Shawn Gee (Live Nation Urban & Partner of Maverick). Comfort Covers is a series featuring a select group of musicians from each record label roster performing renditions of a track or medley of tracks from a particular artist that they favor or have been inspired by. Past participants have included Alex Mali, Sebastian Mikael, Kevin Ross and Savannah Cristina.

Soundcheck Performances, a series which serves as an acoustic and scaled back performance for artists. Past participants have included Rayana Jay, Rileyy Lanez, JAHMED and Brave Williams. These performances will be featured on Live Nation Urban’s Instagram and YouTube channels.

Today multi-platinum band Shinedown has released their new single “Atlas Falls,” sharing a message of optimism and faith in humanity amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Until now, “Atlas Falls” has only been available as part of an exclusive T-shirt and song bundle for Shinedown’s fundraising relief effort forhumanitarian aid organization Direct Relief, one of the largest providers of humanitarian medical resources in the world whose mission is to improve the health and lives of people affected by poverty or emergency situations by mobilizing and providing essential medical resources needed for their care. The band has raised more than $300,000 and counting (including a $20,000 donation from Shinedown that kicked it off), for the organization which is currently working to providepersonal protective equipment to frontline health workers responding to Coronavirus (COVID-19) and essential medications and supplies for patients. This includes 10,800 shipments to more than 1,800 health care facilities across all 50 U.S. states and 62 countries, totaling more than 3.4 million masks, 2.8 million gloves, 119,000 gowns and coveralls, 600 oxygen concentrators and ventilators, as well as 40.1 million doses of medications to treat a range of chronic and acute health conditions. Shinedown is continuing its fundraising efforts – the “Atlas Falls” T-shirt is still available for purchase with 100% of proceeds going to Direct Relief.

Written eight years ago during the sessions for the Amaryllis album but never released, “Atlas Falls” was always special to the band and it became clear to them that it was the right time for the song’s message to arrive as the world was beginning to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. Drawing inspiration from the Greek myth of Titan Atlas who carries a celestial sphere on his shoulders, “Atlas Falls” is a reassuring anthem that if Atlas falls, we will lift each other up in times of strife. Shinedownpulled the song from their vault for their partnership with Direct Relief, and now as the world continues to combat the coronavirus, the release of the song continues to remind us that when times get tough, we will hold each other up and we will stand tall…together. “Atlas Falls” is already a Top 20 rock radio hit and climbing.
