Proceeds from Leap Into the New Year will benefit a wide range of SF Ballet artistic initiatives, including new works, accessible digital content, scholarships and financial aid programs for San Francisco Ballet School students, and community education programs for youth, families, and seniors. The event begins at 6 pm with access to private virtual tables; a wine education session with the event’s wine sponsor, Rodney Strong Vineyards; and behind-the-scenes content from rehearsals, followed by a 7 pm performance.

Ticket holders at the Artistic Director, Principal, Producer, and Soloist levels will enjoy VIP programming, including the pas de deux from William Forsythe’s In the Middle, Somewhat Elevated, rehearsed by Forsythe on Soloist Sasha Mukhamedov and Principal Dancer Aaron Robison, and the White Swan Pas De Deux from Helgi Tomasson’s Swan Lake performed by Fogo and MacKay.

Under the direction of Music Director Martin West, San Francisco Ballet Orchestra recorded music for the event using approved safety protocols at Skywalker Studios, 25th Street Recording, and the SF Conservatory of Music, which was produced, engineered and mastered by Leslie Ann Jones.

The evening is hosted by SF Ballet Soloist Madison Keesler, who will be styled by Neiman Marcus. All table guests will enjoy a private, virtual meet-and-greet with a Company dancer during the event and will have access to a virtual social wall where they can share photography and messages with other benefit-goers. Artistic Director and Principal level table guests will also have the option to request an on-site, socially-distanced photo-op with Drew Altizer Photography.

Tickets to the event start at $3,000 for a pair of guests or $1,600 for a virtual table of four for ENCORE! members. Born in Iceland, he danced with Harkness Ballet, The Joffrey Ballet, and New York City Ballet, where he distinguished himself as a dancer of technical purity, musicality, and intelligence. Tomasson assumed leadership of SF Ballet in 1985. Under his direction, SF Ballet has become a company widely recognized as one of the finest in the world.

Tomasson has balanced devotion to the classics with an emphasis on new works, cultivating frequent collaborations and commissions with choreographers such as William Forsythe, Christopher Wheeldon, Alexei Ratmansky, Trey McIntyre, Cathy Marston, and Mark Morris, among many others. He has choreographed more than 50 works for the Company, including full-length productions of Swan LakeThe Sleeping BeautyRomeo & Juliet (taped for Lincoln Center at the Movies’ Great American Dance), Giselle, and Nutcracker (taped for PBS’s Great Performances).

He conceptualized the 1995 UNited We Dance festival, in which SF Ballet hosted 12 international companies; the 2008 New Works Festival, which included 10 world premieres by 10 acclaimed choreographers; and 2018 Unbound: A Festival of New Works. Tomasson has also connected SF Ballet to the world, through co-commissions with companies including American Ballet Theatre, The Royal Ballet, and Dutch National Ballet; and major tours to Paris, London, New York City, China, and his native Iceland. In 2020, Tomasson received the San Francisco Arts Medallion, created by the Museum of Performance + Design to recognize those individuals whose leadership, action, and generosity have benefited the cultural life of the San Francisco Bay Area.

ABOUT THE SAN FRANCISCO BALLET

Zach Gill – Cocktail Yoga

ZACH GILL FLEXES HIS MUSICAL MUSCLES LIKE NEVER BEFORE ON GROUNDBREAKING NEW SOLO ALBUM COCKTAIL YOGA

Watch Lyric video for “Playground In Your Soul” HERE!

Acclaimed singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist ZACH GILL unveils his third full-length solo album, Cocktail Yoga, today.

Stream Cocktail Yoga HEREvia Brushfire/Republic Records and view the lyric video for “Playground In Your Soul” HERE!

Zach Gill, who over the course of his career has accumulated over 18 million global streams, heralds the nine-track instrumental new album with the single “King Dancer’s Delight.” Punctuated by nature sounds, immersive production, and artful sonic transmissions, Cocktail Yoga also drew critical attention right out of the gate. In addition to features from JamBase and more, Santa Barbara Independent enthusiastically wrote, “To me, it sounds like that ‘space-age bachelor-pad music’ made famous by Mexican legend Esquivel!”

He bends genres on Cocktail Yoga and twists up instrumental escapism unlike anything else out there.

While quarantined at home this year, Zach locked himself in the “Creativity Lounge, i.e. his garage, and escaped. Tinkering and toying with instruments and gear accrued over decades, he tuned out the noise of the news and stress of a world under duress and simply played. Without words, he unassumingly conjured what he refers to as “sound spaces.

By happenstance he manifested an album that provides sonic respite and relief with fluid laidback performances straight from the heart right when we need it most. “King Dancer’s Delight” introduces his vision with its analog synths and ethereal keys, inviting audiences to breathe in the beat and exhale bliss.

In a time where we all feel like we all need a cocktail, or to do some yoga, Zach Gill asks the question… “Why not both?” Cocktail Yoga stretches the bounds of his creativity yet again. See a note from Zach below on the album.

What is Cocktail Yoga by Zach Gill?

At the start of the 2020 global lockdown, as a traveling musician, I found myself with a sudden plethora of time at home, surrounded by ideas and inspiring instruments. Over the last decade, I’ve created a small and always evolving music studio in my garage. I call it the Creativity Lounge. Each time I get a new instrument or piece of recording gear, I spend a little time exploring musical possibilities with it. These aren’t songs in the traditional sense but more like “sound spaces” and as time has gone on I’ve ended up with quite a few of these exploratory, instrumental tracks. Each one unique, like an alien planet with its own inhabitants, climates, and landscapes. When the news of the day was stressful and life felt chaotic with too many voices in my head, I’d put on my headphones, fire up the recording gear and escape to these sonic planets without words, each time adding new elements and whittling away old, until one day I realized I’d accidentally made an album. An album called Cocktail Yoga.

Cocktail Yoga is music for unwinding the mind, the body and the soul. It’s music meant for dreaming, for painting, for cooking and for crafting. It might inspire you to stretch your hammys and roll your shoulders, or it might inspire you to make a hot toddy and curl up with a good book or call an old friend. It’s playful and seamless and doesn’t require anything from you. Inspired by composers like Esquivel, Martin Denny, and The Three Suns, Cocktail Yoga is fresh, yet rooted in an older, seemingly simpler time. It’s a portal out of the realms of opinion and decision and into the spaces between, where time is infinite and all endings are also beginnings.

Enjoy responsibly,

Love
Zach

Eric Bellinger – SOLO’N

Today, Grammy-winning songwriter and R&B artist Eric Bellinger releases his catchy second single SOLO’N from his upcoming album Eric B for President: Term 3 releasing via YFS Music/EMPIRE on October 30. Produced by Smash David and Lowky, the magnetic new track shows Bellinger as he falls in love with a strong, independent woman and strives to give her the luxurious life she deserves.

The music video, inspired by his real-life relationship with his wife, gives fans a peek into the start of their romance. SOLO’N follows last week’s release GODLY and he will continue with weekly song and video releases telling a continuous story.

“SOLO’N is definitely one of my personal favorites on the album,” explains Bellinger. “Nursery rhyme melody vibes on the hook make sure you know the words by the time the 2nd chorus comes around, and it’s stuck in your head after the song is done playing! The entire project is in chronological order and is based off the back story of me meeting and solidifying the relationship between me & my 1st lady. The album starts with GODLY, a record where I’m showcasing that I got all my shit together. I’m in position. I’m up at this point and I’ve worked on myself so I can be ready for that special someone. SOLO’N sets the scene. Introducing those first passages of convo from text messages to FaceTimes giving listeners an inside look at the moments that brought us together throughout our timeline of love.”

Eric B For President: Term 3 follows Optimal Music, an album collaboration with longtime business partner Nieman Johnson. The project debuted in April and features Young Thug, Jeremih, Joe Moses, and more. This year, Bellinger also shared another album Scenarios a collaboration with Grammy-winning producer Chase-N-Cash and the thoughtful single Enough written about police brutality and released during the BLM protests.

5 Best Sports Activities for Students

With the lure of electronic activities like playing computer games and surfing the net that don’t require physical exercise, students may miss out on an opportunity to socialize, keep healthy and boost their brainpower.

Sports activities will relieve your stress, help you to sleep better, control your weight, improve your mood and give you more energy. Universities and colleges usually have many traditional sports teams, but there are many other sports activities on campus that cater to all types of individuals and levels of expertise, from complete novices to the very sporty.

Here are various sports for students, some more conventional and others a little more unusual.

Traditional sports

The most popular sports for students are usually traditional ones like football, basketball, volleyball and softball. Students who begin playing these sports in high school often continue in college. The average university sponsors at least twenty different sports.

Playing team sports not only allows you to become fit but has many other benefits too. Sharing fun and special moments, socialization, making new friends and developing teamwork skills are all part of playing in a team.

Playing a team sport allows you to pick up a number of soft skills, too, such as time management and strategic thinking. Showing you could play a team sport without affecting your studies, or that you could take a responsible role, such as captain, will impress future employees.

Taking a break from your studies to play a team sport will help to keep your mind focused and alert because exercise increases the blood flow to your brain.

Solo sports

There are many great ways to spend time exercising on your own. Swimming is one solo sport that offers a low-impact full-body workout. You can schedule it whenever you have the time and an hour of swimming will burn calories and give you some good aerobic exercise. Running, walking and strength training are other enjoyable solo sports.

As a student, you have a heavy workload and you often need to make a concerted effort to fit exercise into your program. You can even engage in an intensive cardio workout right in your dorm room to save time.

There are many Pilates and yoga videos on YouTube that will give you a good workout. If you feel you don’t have the time, you can use writing services by the professional essay writers to complete college tasks, so your life is more balanced. Thesis or dissertation, college essays or term papers, online writing experts help you with every writing project.

Adventure sports

If you like to accompany your exercise with a bit of adventure, off-road cycling, hiking, cross-country skiing, rowing, or rock climbing can challenge you. It also allows you to see more of nature, take great photos and forget about your studies for a while so you can return to them refreshed.

Just remember that adventure sports place more demands on your body and proper nutrition is essential to keep your performance at its peak and reduce chances of injury.

Reading nutrition essay topics, such as how nutrition influences brain performance or what type of nutrition you need if you do adventure sports, can help you to make the right choices when it comes to what you eat.

Dance activities

After sitting in class, studying and researching, sometimes all you want to do is get up and move.  Dancing is often an extremely popular activity at college, with lots of interest and a variety of different opportunities, from hip-hop to ballroom.

Dance clubs are student organizations that dance for fun and provide a great way to get some exercise. As the atmosphere is non-competitive, this is a more laid-back way to participate in dance than to join a dance team which competes with other college teams.

Most dance clubs also have a performance or two to showcase their talents and you can invite family or friends along to see you perform. Special dance events can include programs organized by students to support charitable causes.

Unusual sports

If you’re not into traditional sports, college is the place where you’re likely to find some unusual clubs. You could find an unusual club where you’ll meet people with similar interests to you.

If you’re a Harry Potter fan, you may be tickled to play Quidditch which has made its way from fiction into our muggle world. Players may not ride on brooms but the game can be highly entertaining. Roller Derby is another full-contact sport played on wheels by both men and women.

If you’ve always wondered what Underwater Hockey or Disc Golf (Frolf) must be like to play, now’s your chance. Parkour is another unusual sport that requires quick reflexes and stamina to overcome obstacles and the environment, simply by using your body.

A final word

To find out what’s available at your school, check the student organizations page on the website and you’ll be amazed at how many diverse opportunities a school may have to offer.  University life can be stressful, with heavy workloads and pressure to meet deadlines for assignments. If you don’t find ways to relieve the pressure, you will find it difficult to cope.

Sports activities provide the perfect outlet, keep your brain and body healthy and offer you the opportunity to make friends, conquer physical challenges and much more. Finding the right balance between your studies and other activities can be a challenge, but it is important if you want to be able to look back on an enjoyable and memorable university experience.

Brittany Howard’s Debut Solo

Brittany Howard ߝ lead vocalist/guitarist for the chart-topping, GRAMMY winning bandAlabama Shakes will release her debut solo album, Jaime, on September 20 via ATO Records. Today, she shared the lead off track, History Repeats. Download History Repeats HERE and listen HERE. Pre-order Jaime HERE.

History Repeats is as much a personal song as it is a song about us as a human species. Our times of success may propel us forward, but our repeating failures hold us back from evolving into harmony,Éd; says Brittany Howard, who posted her mission statement for the album earlier today. See below for links to her social media.

Howard will support the album with a North American tour, which includes two-night stands at intimate venues in Asheville, NC, Washington, DC and Los Angeles. The headline run will also include shows at Ryman Auditorium in Nashville (August 19) and New York City’s Beacon Theatre (September 24). See below for full itinerary. Howard and her band made their live debut last week at the prestigious Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.

The fan ticket pre-sale begins today at 10:00 AM local time. Tickets go on sale to the public on Friday, June 28, at 10:00 AM local time unless otherwise noted below. Every online ticket purchased for U.S. dates on the fall tour will include a CD of the new album, Jaime.

Citi is the official pre-sale credit card of the Brittany Howard 2019 North American tour. As such, Citi cardmembers will have access to purchase pre-sale tickets beginning today at 10:00 AM through Thursday, June 27, at 10:00 PM local time through Citi EntertainmentSM. For complete pre-sale details visit www.citientertainment.com.

Howard recorded Jaime after a cross country drive that took her from Nashville to a small house in Topanga, CA a rustic Los Angeles county town wedged between the mountains and the beach. She titled the album after her sister, who taught her to play the piano and write poetry, and who died of cancer when they were still teenagers.

The title is in memoriam, and she definitely did shape me as a human being, saysBrittany Howard. But, the record is not about her. It’s about me. I’m pretty candid about myself and who I am and what I believe. Which is why I needed to do it on my own.

While Howard admits it was daunting, stepping out alone from her work with Alabama Shakes and revealing so much of herself, it was a necessary step. I turned 30 and I was like, What do I want the rest of my life to look like? she recalls. Do I want to play the same songs until I’m 50 and then retire, or do I do something that’s scarier for me? Do I want people to understand me and know me, do I want to tell them my story? I’m very private, but my favorite work is when people are being honest and really doing themselves.

She brought a handful of finished songs into engineer Shawn Everett’s L.A. studio. Once she started working with the band she had assembled a core group of Alabama Shake’s bassist Zac Cockrell, innovative jazz-based keyboard player Robert Glasper and drummer Nate Smith the music started to take shape. Different sounds and approaches began to emerge. Howard examines spiritual ritual on He Loves Me and celebrates love with Georgia. Goat Head is informed by the experience of growing up as a mixed-race child in the South while 13th Century Metal grew out of Glasper and Smith jamming in the studio. See below for track listing.

As the front woman and guitarist for Alabama Shakes, Howard has become one of music’s most celebrated figures. The band has won four GRAMMY Awards and topped the Billboard 200 with the Gold-certified Sound & Color, the follow-up to its Platinum debut album, Boys & Girls. Howard has performed everywhere from the Obama White House to the main stage at Lollapalooza, where she sang with Paul McCartney at his invitation. In between albums and tours with Alabama Shakes, Howard grows restless. To me, there is no time off  I’m a creative person and I need to create, or I just feel weird, not fully human, she says. She’s channeled that relentless creativity into Jaime, her most revelatory work yet.

Julia Michaels Announces Second Tour Leg

JULIA MICHAELS ANNOUNCES SECOND LEG OF THE INNER MONOLOGUE TOUR

DATES KICK OFF OCTOBER 16 IN TEMPE, AZ AND RUN THOUGH NOVEMBER 2019

CURRENTLY ON THE BEAUTIFUL TRAUMA WORLD TOUR WITH P!NK THROUGH MAY 2019

Listen to Inner Monologue Part I HERE

On the heels of multiple sold out shows, GRAMMY® Award-nominated multi platinum singer and songwriter JULIA MICHAELS will extend her first-ever headline show—THE INNER MONOLOGUE TOUR—with a month of dates this fall. Given the widespread fan demand, she will once again canvas North America with headline gigs coast-to-coast. The next leg kicks off October 16 in Tempe, AZ at the Marquee Theatre and concludes November 16 at Vogue Theatre in Vancouver, BC. Tickets go on-sale this Friday!

Get them HERE.

In March, THE INNER MONOLOGUE TOUR showcased her power as a live performer and solidified her as an impressive concert draw. She sold out venues in Chicago, Seattle, San Diego, Boulder, and Tulsa, to name a few. MICHAELS is also currently supporting P!NK on the U.S. installment of The Beautiful Trauma World Tour.

On a nightly basis, she’s bringing her debut, INNER MONOLOGUE PART I, to life on stage—and bringing fans closer than ever.

GRAMMY® Award-nominated singer and songwriter Julia Michaels has transformed the pop music landscape not only from behind-the-scenes as one of the most in-demand songwriters, but in the spotlight as a solo artist as well. Her rapid rise can be attributed to identifiable honesty in every lyric, as exemplified in her triple-platinum selling debut single “Issues”.  In 2018, she garnered GRAMMY® Awards nominations in the categories of “Best New Artist” and “Song of the Year” for “Issues,” which amassed nearly 2 billion streams worldwide. Continuing that success, “Issues” notably became “the top-selling debut single by an artist in 2017,” and placed as the only solo female composition on Variety’s “30 Most Consumed Songs of 2017.”

As a songwriter, MICHAELS has co-written 21 titles that have charted on the Billboard Hot 100, eleven of which have hit the Top 40, including “Issues.”  Those songwriting credits include smashes like Justin Bieber’s “Sorry,” Selena Gomez’s “Good for You” [feat. A$AP Rocky] & “Hands To Myself,” and Hailee Steinfeld’s “Love Myself.”  She’s also written titles for Britney Spears, Gwen Stefani, Linkin Park, Ed Sheeran, John Legend, P!NK, Maroon 5, Jessie Ware, Janelle Monae, Keith Urban, Shawn Mendes and more.

Since her debut as a solo artist, MICHAELS has built an enviable touring resume, joining artists like Maroon 5, Keith Urban, Shawn Mendes, Niall Horan, and P!NK- who she is currently touring the U.S. with through May 2019, around the globe.

MICHAELS most recently surprised fans with the release of INNER MONOLOGUE PART I.  Upon arrival, the EP debuted at #1 on the iTunes Pop Albums Chart and #5 Overall iTunes Albums Chart. The success of the EP prompted MICHAELS first-ever headline tour, “The Inner Monologue Tour,” which has sold out dates across the country.

Damon Elliot “Grown Tingz”

Grammy-winning producer Damon Elliott is returning as solo-recording artist NomaD with new release Grown Tingz on NomaD Crew/Mensch House Records out September 28 at all digital outlets.  Grown Tingz was inspired by life challenges and breaking through it all, and features a stellar line-up of reggae, soul and mainstream artists including Fiji, Eli Mac, Hirie, Josh Tatofi & Maoli, Chardonnay, Morgan Heritage, Dionne Warwick, Gladys Knight, Billy Ray Cyrus, and Mya among others

“Grown Tingz was inspired by life, growing up and the challenges that we all face when we become adults – fear, anger, self-doubt, a heart attack, insecurity and so on. When you finally have your breakthrough and you get that feeling of knowing that you are all grown – that what Grown Tingz is all about”

Elliott, who was nominated for “Best Break Out Artist” this year for iHeart Radio’s inaugural “Island Music Awards,” reinvented himself as NomaD in 2016 after suffering a heart attack. The health scare prompted his move from LA to Hawaii after realizing his true calling: to awaken others through music. He founded his label NomaD Crew, signing legendary Fijian Reggae artist George “Fiji” Veikoso, pioneer of the Pacific Island sound, who helped break NomaD’s first single “Take It All” as producer.  “Take It All” hit #1 on iHeart Radio’s Island 98.5 and 93.1’s Da Pa’lna for four consecutive weeks and maintained a top 5 spot for several more weeks.

NomaD’s single “Perfect Timing” off Grown Tingz is among the most requested songs on Island 98.5’s Top 5 at 5.

All songs on Grown Tingz were mixed by Damon Elliott at NomaD Crew Studios in Honolulu, HI. All songs were mastered by Andy Kravitz at Studio 4 West Recording in Venice Beach, CA.

BAD VALENTINE

Aussie rock icon, Sarah McLeod, announces the launch of her fashion label, BAD VALENTINE. The range will debut with a small selection of T-Shirts that project bold statements for the brave at heart. McLeod’s single of the same name will also launch with a video clip featuring models Lola Van Vorst, Tuyamaa Tumenjargal (Miss Mongolia), Natalie Sweete in the reimagined Enchantment Under The Sea scene from Back To The Future! Watch here.

With a penchant for embellishing T-Shirts for stage for many years, and more recently making her own T-Shirts for her solo shows and performances with her band The Superjesus, the calling became an obvious one. An overwhelming number of requests from fans wanting to know where they could get the same T’s was the catalyst to bring BAD VALENTINE to life.

Well known for her palpable energy and strong sense of self, Sarah has never been shy of being bold and brave. Adored for her straight up ballsy rock & roll character, she has moved through her 20 plus years in the media spotlight with a pinch of endearing larrikin, and a fistful of authenticity. ”

BAD VALENTINE is a clothing label dedicated to the celebration of self-confidence, empowerment, and freedom of speech. As Queen Latifah once said: “Be bold, be brave enough to be your true self”.

“I want people to feel empowered wearing these shirts. They are tongue in cheek but also a very powerful tool of self-awareness and confidence. I want people to know its ok to be bold and its ok to be confident and its quite alright to let ‘em all know you feel that way by pasting it across your chest in broad daylight! Yes you may get some funny looks but if you back it up with a smile and spades of conviction, you’ll BE the business.” Says McLeod…

Initial collection consists of the following 7 shirts (in Women’s and Men’s sizes)

BAD ASS
BAD MUTHA FUCKA
