With a sound that combines everything from psychedelic rock to funk streamlined into a raucous yet melodically appealing full package, the Farmingville-based Chris Ruben Band is ready to deliver more music to the masses. With their debut EP “Fortune Favors the Bold” having come out in March, the band has been hard at work on their follow up, and just released their new single “Stomach Coil” as they rock The Lounge @ The Space at Westbury in New York.

After 5 plus years of working solo, songwriter and musician Chris Ruben founded the first of many groups in late 2014. With many twists and turns befalling him, the band has seen many faces come and go. Now they are family. Recently re-charged with Chris Ruben (Vocals/Guitar), Brendan Allan (Bass/Vocals), Russ Benjamin (Drums/Percussion), Eugene Iovine (Keyboards/Synth), and Frank Iovine (Saxophone/Keyboards) – they’ve rocked shows from Narrowsburg NY’s Froggy Daze Music Festival to SXSW in Austin Texas, Alive After Five in Patchogue NY, NYC’s Bitter End and Bowery Electric just to name a few.

In celebration of Mickey Mouse’s 90th birthday, New York milliner Gigi Burris launches a capsule collection interpreting through headwear an American icon, Mickey. Burris debuts today a nine-piece collection of felt hats and hair accessories that celebrate Mickey’s timeless style and color palette.

Raised in Central Florida with Walt Disney World essentially in her backyard, Burris was transfixed by Mickey Mouse from a young age—his unmistakable ears shaping more than just an unforgettable character, but also the dreams of a young, creative spirit. As a renowned milliner, Burris possesses a rare talent for taking the old and making it new, using centuries-old techniques to handcraft one-of-a-kind pieces that are all locally made in New York City.

The first place that Burris draws inspiration from are the two simple black circles on top of Mickey’s head that have become as recognizable as the mouse himself. Burris plays off this silhouette in her Icon Cap, which comes in red, yellow and black. Now three dimensional, this innovative piece is a wearable sculpture. The Icon, is a limited edition drop with 30 hand-numbered pieces per color. “I wanted to create a forward-thinking take on the ears that looks as welcome at Walt Disney World as it would on the streets of New York,” Burris explains.

For a more classic silhouette, Burris creates a black and red fedora, drawing inspiration from the period of Mickey Mouse’s inception in 1928. For this piece, the ears appear as subtle, black circles that add interest to the crown of the hat. Mickey’s black and white beginnings are referenced in an elegant veiled headband that features hand-applied sequins and Swarovski crystals on ears formed from hand-tacked French veiling.

To emphasize Mickey’s natural charm, Burris individually places a pattern of Swarovski gunmetal pearls and red crystals onto a luxe, gunmetal headband in the shape of his ear silhouette. Another accessory pays homage to Mickey’s iconic design and recognizable ears. Here, it is plated in 14 karat gold—a simple and chic way to portray Mickey’s hairline. “As a hat maker, I was drawn to what shapes Mickey’s face—the dramatic widow’s peak that punctuates his every expression.”

While Mickey’s ears are his trademark, the mouse has never shied away from headwear. He has always selected just the right topper to complement his most memorable looks. Burris is particularly inspired by the captain’s hat Mickey wears in his debut film, Disney’s Steamboat Willie, as well as the square brimmed hat Mickey puts on as a conductor in Disney’s The Band Concert.

These references are alluded to in the form of a lambskin leather Greek Fisherman’s hat, featuring Mickey’s signature white buttons and a subtle nod to his hairline stitched in white thread on the top of the cap. A cheery, red, square-brimmed hat is a modern update to a classic baseball cap, complete with three Disney x Gigi Burris pins—Mickey tipping his boater hat, the classic icon of Mickey’s ears, and an “M” for Mickey. This moment harkens back to the days when Burris, like many others, would leave Walt Disney World with a plethora of Mickey Mouse souvenirs and memories of another special day spent with the beloved mouse.

Millennials are fast becoming one of the largest demographics enjoying the world of golf, and there are a number of reasons for that. 1. The longest course

The Nullarbor Links Golf Course in Australia is not for the impatient. If you prefer your games to be short and sharp, then you might want to avoid the world’s longest golf course. Roughly 850 miles long, it can take an astonishing four to six days to complete a single round. It’s nice to know that there’s time between holes to rest and relax, with some holes needing a 30-mile drive before you can tee off. One of the best features of Nullarbor is that completing the course means that you have crossed two time zones, and that’s one for the bucket list. 2. For winter lovers

Players are also warned about the dangers of seal dens and crevasses as well, so this is not a course for the faint-hearted! This is a long way from those warm conditions in Florida, and you’ll need to look at some quality golf clubs that can cope in the extreme conditions.

3. Extreme wildlife

The Legend Golf and Safari Resort in South Africa is known as one of the world’s top luxury destinations, and for golf lovers, it’s perfect. Not only is the course located in the center of a large wildlife preserve, but it also has a wide range of challenging holes to play. That’s because each hole was designed by a famous golfing legend, meaning each one is unique and challenging while being located in the heart of the African spectacle. For those truly wanting a challenge, the par-3 Extreme 19th hole is only accessible by helicopter and requires a tee shot that ends in a green shaped like Africa, with a 1,200-foot drop.

Grammy Award winning singer/songwriter Alessia Cara has once again donned the symbolic, oversized suit she wore in the “Growing Pains” video, the “Trust My Lonely” video, as well as recent appearances on Fallon, Colbert, and the Today Show for her performances at Austin City Limits and the MTV EMA Awards – where she took home the award for Best World Stage. Alessia told the Today crew: “It’s an artistic way of symbolizing the idea of growing up. Sometimes you kind of feel like you’re drowning and you feel like you’re not ready for the roles life throws at you so this was my way of symbolizing it in an artistic way.” Alessia took to her Twitter account to defend her choices for wearing the oversized suit after some online criticism and received support from Kehlani and Ariana Grande.

The Work-To-Weekend Luxury SUV

Practicality meets luxury with the 2018 GX 460 SUV, a work-to-weekend warrior that’s as at home on the trail as it is in the city or suburbs. Underscoring the three-row GX 460’s all-weather capability and comfort that seats up to seven passengers, the heated/ventilated front seats are available as a standalone option for the base model (standard on the Premium and Luxury models). In addition, the top-line GX 460 now offers captain’s chairs for the second-row seating in the Sport Design Package.

The Lexus signature spindle grille gives the GX 460 a distinctive, standout style. The Sport Design Package puts an extra accent on that design with special details such as an exclusive front bumper, rear bumper spoiler, special exhaust tailpipe tip, a redesigned side mirror case, scarlet tail lamps and unique 18-inch split-six spoke alloy wheels.

One Vehicle, Two Ways Easy maneuverability and the comfort of the GX 460 make it an ideal contender for the modern family. A dual-purpose vehicle, the luxury SUV can go from the office to an active, demanding 4×4 environment on the weekend without looking out of place. The standard and sole engine is a 301-horsepower 4.6-liter V8 that issues 329 lb.-ft. of peak torque. Combine that with 6,500-lb. towing capacity, and you’ve got an ideal boat hauler. Towing is aided with Trailer Sway Control, a function of the Vehicle Stability Control that enhances straight-line tracking.

A key to the GX 460’s dual personalities is its standard Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS), which helps to significantly reduce body lean without resorting to stiffer springs and dampers. Lexus made the stabilizer bars stiffer to help reduce maximum body-lean angle by as much as 50 percent. Hydraulic cylinders act on each stabilizer bar, and linked by a pressure-sensing valve, they continually vary the lean resistance. During on-road cornering, when both front and rear hydraulic cylinders are in a neutral position, no fluid flows in the system and the stabilizer bars work conventionally to help reduce body lean.

Driving in off-road situations, KDSS is designed to reduce sway resistance, which allows the wheels to move with a larger degree of side-to-side independence. When the GX 460 encounters an uneven surface, one compressed cylinder causes fluid to flow to the other cylinder, helping the vehicle to keep all four wheels on the ground. The system works without any action needed by the driver.

The GX 460 has another ace up its fender for on-road smoothness. Available Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) uses electronically controlled dampers that adjust to road surface conditions. The driver can tailor ride and handling characteristics by selecting from among Normal, Sport or Comfort modes.
In today’s world, a full-capability SUV means the ability to casually traverse highways and grocery store parking lots while also offering the ability for an off-road excursion. That’s why the Lexus GX 460 uses a full-time automatic four-wheel drive system that can enhance everyday handling on the pavement as well as on the trails.

A Torsen® torque-sensing limited slip center differential distributes power 40:60 under most driving conditions and changes the ratio as needed based on wheel slip. The system offers a low range for off-road driving, and the center differential can be electronically locked.

Driving through a curve on pavement, for example, the Torsen differential can change the torque split to 30:70 to enhance vehicle tracking. If wheels spin, the center differential can change the ratio to 50:50 to help control slippage. The system can respond to sudden changes in road-surface conditions, such as driving through a puddle or over an ice patch. A two-speed transfer case with low range is supported by a wide array of chassis control technology. With Downhill Assist Control (DAC), Hill-start Assist Control (HAC), Active Traction Control (A-TRAC), Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and available Crawl Control, the GX 460 has the ability to roam unpaved, uneven trails and steep inclines.

In some off-road conditions, where the driver might have a hard time knowing which direction the front wheels are pointing – the GX 460 comes with a standard steering angle indicator in the gauge panel. A-TRAC provides the traction benefits of having locking front and rear differentials, but with lower weight. The system can apply the brake to a slipping wheel, while transferring torque to the wheels with better traction.

Trail drivers who encounter steep and rocky hills know well the skill and concentration needed to manipulate the throttle, brake and steering to help keep the vehicle moving forward securely. The GX 460 makes it easier with available Crawl Control, which automatically modulates the throttle and brake, allowing the driver to concentrate on steering.

Engaged when the vehicle is in low range, Crawl Control allows the vehicle to move forward or in reverse at one of five driver-selectable low-speed settings. Crawl Control also engages the front and rear “virtual” locking differentials to help reduce tire slippage and optimize chassis behavior. Crawl Control can also help the driver navigate the GX 460 through sand, mud or snow.

The GX 460’s multimedia system is a multitasker, offering a customizable home screen that can display three sections simultaneously. For example, you can view a single display (navigation/map), dual display (navigation/map + audio, compass or other function) or three displays on the same screen (navigation/map + audio + weather). The available Navigation System’s three-dimensional map view makes it an even more effective driving partner. The touch-screen Display Audio uses an eight-inch screen that includes a backup camera, HD RadioTM, Bluetooth® audio, automatic phone book transfer, a vehicle information display and complimentary traffic and weather data provided via HD Radio.

The system also incorporates cache radio, which can pause live radio, recording up to 15 minutes of broadcast for later playback. Drivers with an iPhone ® (iPhone 4S and later) can get things done just by asking through standard Siri® Eyes Free Mode. Siri lets you call contacts, select and play music from iTunes®, get turn-by-turn navigation through Siri and Apple® maps, and much more.

The Lexus GX 460 also goes above and beyond with safety features. Technologies that exemplify the brand’s forward thinking are found in the optional Driver Support Package, which includes the Pre-Collision System (PCS), Driver Attention Monitor, Lane Departure Alert (LDA), Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Outside Rear View Mirror (camera + Blind Spot Monitor indicator) and a Wide-view Front and Side Camera that is designed to enhance visibility in tight settings and around corners. Dynamic Radar Cruise Control uses millimeter-wave radar to measure and help maintain a pre-set following distance from a vehicle traveling ahead.

The Driver Attention Monitor helps to address a growing safety concern, that of driver inattention. The innovative system uses a camera to monitor the orientation of the driver’s face. If it determines that the driver is not facing forward when an obstacle is detected by PCS, a warning chime and a warning display convey alerts. If the driver doesn’t respond as the vehicle closes on the obstacle, the next level of warning is PCS gently applying the brakes. At the same time, the system automatically retracts the front seat belts and prepares the brake system to respond with increased force when you apply the brake pedal.

By monitoring visible lane markings, Lane Departure Alert can detect unintentional lane departure and sound a warning buzzer and display a visual alert. Also part of the Driver Support Package, Intelligent High Beam brings courtesy and safety to the road by automatically switching high beams to low when meeting oncoming vehicles or approaching vehicles from the rear.

When equipped with the available Navigation System, the GX 460 also comes with a one-year complimentary subscription to Lexus Enform Destination Assist, and the subscription-free Lexus Enform App Suite.

These voice-enabled apps let you search the Internet through Destination Search, make restaurant reservations through OpenTable®, order movie tickets via MovieTickets.com, listen to Internet radio (including Pandora®, iHeartRadioTM and Slacker), and search business reviews on Yelp®.

The 2018 GX 460 includes Lexus Enform® Safety Connect featuring Automatic Collision Notification, Stolen Vehicle Location, Emergency Assist Button, Enhanced Roadside Assistance and Lexus Enform Safety Connect and Lexus Enform Destination Assist (includes a complimentary one-year subscription). Lexus drivers can also opt in for Lexus Enform Service Connect with a complimentary one-year subscription included. This service allows customers to remotely view information about certain aspects of their Lexus vehicle via the MyLexusandBeyond mobile application for iOS smartphone users or LexusDrivers.com for others.

Information includes maintenance alerts, warning light notifications and a vehicle health report that includes email and push notifications for diagnostic information, required maintenance reminders, current vehicle alerts, service campaigns, and more. Nicki Minaj First Woman With 100 Appearances On Billboard Hot 100

Global superstar Nicki Minaj makes history once again. This time, she emerges as the first female artist with 100 career appearances on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. With her latest entry as a featured artist on Tyga‘s new single “Dip,” Minaj joins just four other acts with triple-digit totals, including label mates Drake and Lil Wayne as well as Elvis and the Glee Cast.

The news comes on the heels of Minaj bringing home two awards last night for “Best Hip Hop” and “Best Look” at the 2018 MTV EMA’s. Minaj also took the stage for two incredible performances: a medley of “Good Form” from her platinum-selling album Queen and new song “Woman Like Me” with Little Mix and a performance of “Goodbye” with Jason Derulo and David Guetta.

The Royal Portfolio has announced that the The Farmstead, an exclusive new safari lodge at Royal Malewane – The Royal Portfolio’s iconic first property – in South Africa’s Greater Kruger National Park will open May 1, 2019.

Following the recently refurbishment of the existing Royal Malewane safari lodge, construction is now underway at The Farmstead, just a 12-minute drive south of the existing lodge. Liz Biden, owner of The Royal Portfolio who has designed and decorated all the interiors within the collection, has already acquired much of the eclectic furniture and original art for the new lodge. Accommodations at The Farmstead will include three Luxury Farm Suites and The Farmhouse – a four-bedroom villa offering private services including a dedicated chef, butler, housekeeper, safari vehicle, ranger and tracker. The main lodge area will have a double spa treatment room, a gym, fire pit and vast deck where guests can relax and take meals while watching the abundant wildlife visiting the adjacent waterhole.

The Farmstead will offer the same exceptional safari experience with Africa’s most qualified guiding team as well as the same flawless service and cuisine that guests have come to expect for more than 20 years at Royal Malewane. Got a long journey ahead of you? It is easy to get bored on long-haul travel particularly if you are by yourself, but fortunately, there are many great ways to keep yourself entertained, and many of these can be productive and valuable. You may want to try a few of the following on your next long-haul flight, and it is good to have a few ideas up your sleeve in case you quickly become bored of one or if you are finding it difficult to get any sleep or rest. So, read on for a few different ways that you can keep yourself entertained during any long-haul journey.

Reading

Reading is perfect for a long-haul journey as it can keep your mind busy, but it is also a healthy and valuable pastime. Additionally, many people find that reading can help them to get tired and fall asleep easier which is ideal if you are on an overnight flight. On top of this, there are so many different books and styles to choose from so you should always be able to find something that piques your interest.

Film/TV

Planes often have films and TV that you can watch, which is a superb way to kill a few hours. If there are no films or TV on the flight, then you could always download a few on a tablet or similar device so that you can easily watch on a long journey.

There are many amazing TV boxsets which are very easy to binge on so you could easily get stuck into one of these on the journey.

Remember: Pack a pair of headphones, otherwise you won’t be able to listen privately! Try and download a variety of films and programs so you don’t get bored and can change genre if you feel like it.

Casino games are great fun, and there are endless variations, so you should easily be able to find a few that you enjoy playing on a long-haul journey. The PUMA Galleria saw sneakerheads excited to check out the 90’s vibes in the Toys, Tech, Tracks and Trophies sections with line ups for the limited RS-X Toys custom sneaker works by JBF Customs and Alexander John inspired by 90s Tech and Mix Tapes respectively. The artists also did live custom designing demos at the courtyard. All pairs were sold out in minutes. PUMA also unveiled the upcoming collaboration pack with Hot Wheels – the RS-X Toys Hot Wheels that release on December 1st.

Special guests Kali Uchis, A Boogie Wit a Hoodie, Yo Gotti and Nipsey Hustle all came out to promote and sign the limited-quantity bootleg tees designed by Chinatown Market. Each tee design were inspired by each artist. YesJulz and her 1AM radio crew continued with their live broadcast from the PUMA Galleria and interviewed the artists mentioned above plus a whole lot more. Also seen were Emory Jones, Upscale Vandal, Karrueche and Victor Cruz, among the many celebrities who dropped by.

To celebrate the launch of Cadillac’s newest vehicle, the XT4, Cadillac & Nas dropped a one-of-a-kind Cadillac crest piece and gold chain filled with yellow diamonds, black diamonds, rubies and sapphires. While Nas was signing custom Cadillac/Nas/Complex Merch he surprised a lucky fan by giving the chain to them, creating a once-in-a-lifetime moment with the most coveted drop at the event.

DJ Akademiks and A Boogie wit da Hoodie battled it out during a live episode taping of “On the Sticks,” the new interactive gaming series from Complex and Xbox. The two played NBA 2K19 with A Boogie wit da Hoodie emerging as the champion. The series launches Friday, November 9 on Complex’s YouTube channel.

Nas, Big Boy, Jeff Staple and Tinashe stopped by the HBO barbershop experience that was promoting the new series “The Shop.” Capitol Records’ James Davis, Njomza, BJ The Chicago Kid and Marc Byers joined artists Nick Grant and A Boogie wit da Hoodie for panel discussions at the booth.

As part of Adidas Originals main event at ComplexCon, the brand joined forces with creative partner Pusha T to present a journey through three connected environments, reimagining a retro bank vault and penthouse office, to unveil a limited edition EQT Cushion 2 collaboration. Answering the popular demand for more cultural experiences, the mogul sat with 12 aspiring artists from Los Angeles for an opportunity at the adidas Originals Sound Labs Grant for musical development. Only five musicians made the cut after two days of listening sessions and now local LA semi-finalists Sareal, Lorine Chia, Ice Cold Bishop, Indiigo and Rugby Wild will continue the application process for the grant that will result in a winner in the first days of 2019. Also, King Push was joined by adidas Originals partner Pharrell Williams, who released pairs of the elusive adidas Originals N.E.R.D HU NMD and 50 pairs of never-seen-before PW HU P.O.D. System exclusive for the conference. Winners of the Friends and Family HU P.O.D. System pairs got to meet Pharrell as a special treat from the icon and Adidas Originals. And finally, Adidas Originals launched its new Los Angeles-focused social identity @AdidasLA alongside rap legend and creative ambassador Snoop Dogg. Coinciding with the 25th anniversary of Doggystyle, the brand partnered with Snoop and LA’s World Famous VIP Records for a special pop-up experience. Snoop himself made a special appearance and signed 25 pairs of adidas Originals P.O.D. System sneakers that had been customized by LA artist Gregory Siffs.

Reebok closed out the weekend with its limited-edition Futsal Fusion R58 drop and the final silhouette of the the R58 Series, the Sole Fury Floatride. Lil Baby stopped by in celebration of the drop, purchasing the first ten pairs for lucky customers in line before customizing shirts for his whole crew.

J.Balvin, Teyana Taylor, Made in Tyo (Tyoko), Olan Prenatt, Trill Sammy, Christian BULL1TRC, and Premium Pete all stopped by GUESS Jeans U.S.A. to pick up the goods.

Zen, a new e-commerce experience celebrating sneaker culture with a unique blend of commerce, storytelling, community, and events that launched at ComplexCon, gave away to lucky winners hundreds of pairs of rare kicks including Nike Air Mags seen in ‘Back to the Future,’ Undefeated Jordan IV, Nike Dunk SB Low Diamond Supply Co. “Tiffany,” all Supreme Nike SB Blazers and Dunks, and Adidas Chanel Pharrell Hu NMD.

At McDonald’s Project Connect booth, exclusive designs by influencers Joe FreshGoods, Elise Swopes and Richie Lewere added to jean jackets, jerseys, long sleeve tees and book bags. Also at the booth, Teyana Taylor hosted a first-ever tasting of the new Triple Breakfast Stack for a lucky winner. Hosted by Kenny Burns, Lena Waithe, Don Benjamin and Marcellus Bennett dropped in to enjoy the drops, live DJs, McDonald’s McNuggets, world famous fries and soft drinks.

1800 Tequila created an opportunity for two artists from different disciplines, backgrounds and styles to collaborate together to transform a raw piece of clothing into a refined and one-of-a-kind streetwear piece.

ComplexCon guests had the chance to design their own jackets this weekend and customize their Diamond Supply Co. by Nicky Diamonds x Adam Lucas jackets at the 1800 Tequila booth. Only 100 jackets were made and available exclusively at ComplexCon for lucky scratch off winners who had the chance to win!

Additionally, guests enjoyed custom 1800 Tequila cocktails and music courtesy of DJ Hed, DJ Mike and DJ Rick Trainor at 1800’s booth in the ArtZone.
