Phony Ppl Premiere Dizzying Visuals of “Way Too Far”

Phony Ppl recently unleased their new album mō’zā-ik (300 Entertainment), the follow-up to 2015 Yesterday’s Tomorrow. Blending soul, funk, R&B and more, each song on the 11-track set plays as an extended jam between five musicians playing at their peak and garnered attention from the likes of NPR, Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, and NYLON, who called the album “ethereal as hell.”

Recently, the Brooklyn-based quintet release the dizzying visuals for their song, “Way Too Far.” Directed by Joe Well who has directed videos for Kendrick Lamar, YG, Puff Daddy, and The Internet, the production company who produced the video–Pyscho Films–recently produced the video for Jay Rock ft. Kendrick Lamar– “Wow Freestyle” as well as Aminé–“Reel It In.” The video follows the band and gives us a window into their world, and features cameos by Briana Shanee Wilson (Influencer/Entrepreneur/Creator of Matte Brand) and Patrick Paige II of The Internet.

The new record was met with rave reviews, with the band making Rolling Stone’s 2018 Hot List, with David Fricke noting how they are “ready for the world with  mō’zā-ik. NPR Music premiered the album via First Listen, calling it a “stepping stone for the Brooklyn Band as a subconcious vacation for the listener while moving through the world…or maybe even a retreat from it.” The collection was also featured on NPR’s ‘New Music Friday– 8 Albums You Should Hear Now.’ Pitchfork added mō’zā-ik to their ‘5 Best New Rap Songs’ list, raging about how “the group mashes so well” and “every element of their sound complements the other.” The band also appeared on MTV’s TRL, were interviewed on Sway In The Morning, are currently the face of Spotify’s Newness Playlist, and were featured as Artist of the Week by both TIDAL and Soundcloud.

Devon Gilfillian: Winter Wonderland

Devon Gilfillian ushers in the holiday season with an infectious, soulful take on Winter Wonderland. Download it here!

“I decided to cover ‘Winter Wonderland’ because it takes me back to being a kid in Philly, watching inches upon inches of snow fall to the ground and praying for those three extra snow days to be added to Christmas break,” explains Gilfillian. “It takes me back to Pops making silver dollar pancakes on Christmas morning, and singing Bing Crosby’s version of this tune. I wanted to hold on to the nostalgia I feel from this song but also put a modern soul spin to it.”

Hailed by Rolling Stone as one of the most exciting young artists in Nashville’s burgeoning soul scene, Gilfillian will close out 2018 with a December 6 show at Academy Center of the Arts in Lynchburg, VA, where he will open for Mavis Staples, and a performance at Jack Daniel’s Music City Midnight: New Year’s Eve in Nashville.

He will join Brothers Osborne on the road next spring. The run kicks off on March 21 at The Fillmore in New Orleans and includes an April 3 show at The Novo in Los Angeles. Gilfillian will also perform at the 2019 Shakey Knees Festival in Atlanta. See below for itinerary. Tickets are on sale HERE.

Winter Wonderland follows the singles Truth, High. and Troublemaker. Troublemaker, which was praised by Rolling Stone as a raucous heaping of swampy soul and rock, was heard during 2018 NFL Draft programming/advertising. Gilfillian performed the national anthem before Round 1 of the 2018 NFL Draft.

Gilfillian, who is featured in the Frye Americana Roots campaign and was recently named as a Southwest Airlines “Artist on the Rise,” grew up outside Philadelphia and moved to Nashville to pursue music full-time. In 2016, he released his debut EP, which NPR Music said, “captures his exuberance and musical openness, setting the stage for what promises to be a brilliant career.” Gilfillian is currently working on his full-length debut.

Staying Healthy When The Temperature Drops

Staying healthy can be a challenge when the temperature drops, we all know the feeling of being unprepared for the bitter winter wind and then catching a cold a few days later. With an abundance of medicines helping us to rid the cold faster, it may seem tempting to take out a quick unsecured loan to get you all the latest supplements and medication. However, with these loans in place for financial emergencies only, this is now a thing of the past! Here we are going to give you some top tips for staying healthy when the temperature drops, without breaking the bank.

Sleep

When tackling the winter months it is important to get plenty of sleep in order to strengthen your immune system and fight the infection as the number of germs increases. With the nights drawing in and getting darker earlier, there is plenty of time to rest up to help reach your recommended 8 hours of sleep per night.

Stay Warm

Another way of ensuring that you stay healthy during the winter months is to keep as warm as possible. Although the weather outside may seem bright and inviting, do not be fooled! The weather outside can still be bitterly cold, which can lead to you becoming ill if you do not stay as wrapped up warm. Get yourself a winter coat, a hat and a scarf as this will help you to stay warm and fight off any potential infection. In addition to this, drinking warm beverages and eating warm food can also help you to feel better and ensure that you are healthy throughout winter.

Eat Healthy

Arguably one of the most important ways of staying healthy when the temperature drops are your diet. Although it may seem tempting to go for all the unhealthy treats, many forget to focus on the vegetables and healthy alternatives. If your diet is balanced with a large number of fresh vegetables then you will get the vitamins that you need to help fight infection and help to keep you healthy against typical winter illness, such as the common cold.

In addition to this, staying hydrated during this time of year is also important, as it will help you to concentrate during work hours as well as allow you to maintain healthy bodily functions.

Avoid Caffeine

Caffeine is something that most people run to when it is cold outside. With the long, dark working days, it can be hard to get up in the morning when the bed is so warm, that is why most opt for caffeine at work and throughout the course of the day to stay warm. However, this could be making it worse! Although it may seem tempting to reach for the tea and coffee, it is best to keep to one or two cups a day and replace the rest with something warm such as a mug of soup.

Not only does caffeine have an effect on your concentration levels, but it also has a negative effect on your mood and your immune system.

As you can see, it is easy to look after yourself during the winter months without having to spend a fortune on supplements or medication.

Introducing YFL Kelvin: Def Jam’s Cleaveland-Based Prodigy Teams Up With Moneybagg Yo For The “NASDAQ” Remix

For YFL Kelvin, hip-hop is the soundtrack to his struggle. “My story is rags to riches,” the 21-year old explains. The Cleveland native has found solace in music since his father was gunned down–in an accidental shooting–when he was just five. Kelvin began recording out of his home studio, but music was secondary to the lure of the streets, taking his rap name from his biological father and the aspirational acronym “Young, Flashy, Lifestyle.”

The street life landed him behind bars on three occassions, “My little brother is in jail. Like, everybody who I used to be with is in jail.” No matter the tribulation, it doubled as a sonic inspiration. In 2016, his beef with a former friend sparked his major release, “Mayweather Freestyle.

“I knew I was destined then. Something good was going to play out from all the tragedy that I’ve been through,” he says.

2018’s “NASDAQ” would be the rocket that’d catapult Kelvin beyond Cleveland, released on YouTube the hit song has generated over 300k views. The remix with Moneybagg Yo will lead Kelvin’s first project, Out of Here.
