The festive weekend in the desert included DJ sets by Ruckus, Zen Freeman and GG Magree, presented by Resorts World Las Vegas. An incredible performance by Barns Courtney closed out the festivities. Guests danced the night away under the stars and hung poolside all day long. They enjoying delicious cocktails at the Resorts World bar such as the ‘JAJA Caliwater Escape’ from JAJA Tequila, ‘Socali Mojave Mojito’ by SoCal Rum, Calamity Gin and Nue Vodka, and ‘Cali Style’ Desert Mule by Dos Hombres Mezcal. Refreshing white, rose and sparkling rose wines were offered by Malibu Rocky Oaks Estate Vineyards. The weekend kicked off with a beautiful poolside picnic by The Gypsy Picnic, along with superfood bowls by VitaBowl.
Poolside, attendees changed into eco-friendly fashion-forward footwear styles from Cool Planet. Cool Planet is the new sustainable line by Steve Madden that was made with the earth in mind, and is perfect for the desert vibe.

Renovated from a historical storehouse, wanoi KAKUNODATE offers travelers a step back in time. The town of Kakunodate was known as “Little Kyoto” for samurai residences. Each of the three rooms at wanoi KAKUNODATE highlights this incredible history. The Nishinomiyake Bushigura room, inspired by the ancestor of the Nishinomiya family who was a highly regarded samurai at the time, echoes his story through its design, including tactile tools once used by samurai. The Nishinomiyake Gakkogura room was originally a storehouse for pickles. Guests can experience that history by taking a bath in a repurposed pickle barrel bathtub. The Tanmonogura room is located right next to the samurai residence street. It stands as the oldest of the three storehouses, originally built in the late Edo period.
Nordisk Hygge Circles – Mie Prefecture-Opening Spring 2021
Located in Japan’s Mie Prefecture amidst towering trees and roaring waterfalls, the Nordisk Hygge Circles is a new luxury campground. The campground is intended to be a healing space for guests, while providing a sustainable camping experience. The Nordisk Hygge Circles was designed by Japanese-Danish architecture team Third Nature, who won a regenerative tourism competition launched by Danish outdoor gear company Nordisk. The campsite will consist of three main areas: a rest area with reservable circular cabins and glamping tents, a “learning field” for nature-inspired excursions and workshops, and an area where guests can pitch their own tents.
Nipponia Shirataka Former House of Okuyama – Yamagata Prefecture-Opening April 2021
Renovated from a house that was previously owned by a distinguished Japanese family in the silk production business, this “kimono retreat hotel” offers guests an escape in the rural town of Shirataka while experiencing Japan’s kimono culture. The hotel will span 8,000 square meters with five different buildings and eight guest rooms. Owned by Tomihiro, a 400-year-old kimono fabrics store, the retreat allows guests to partake in traditional craft and local lifestyle activities.
Treeful Treehouse EcoResort-Okinawa Prefecture-Opening Spring 2021
Located in Nago city, in the north of Okinawa island, the Treeful Treehouse EcoResort lives by the ethos of ‘sustainable luxury.’ Using minimal electricity produced solely by solar power, the resort features a number of sleek and design-forward treehouses that are seamlessly integrated with nature. In March of 2020, Sound MANA, a music residency is launching on the Pacific coast of Oaxaca, Mexico. Created by DJ/Producer and Ableton Certified Instructor Adam Partridge (artist name: Atropolis) and his partner En Wong, a multidisciplinary educator—Sound MANA offers artists working in music a one or two-week creative retreat to work on an EP, LP, album or sound and visual project.
Each month, Sound MANA will host up to seven artists who are accepted to the program through an application process. Daily lectures, studio-hours, feedback sessions and workshops are hosted in a cliff-side palapa overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Artists in residency are also given the opportunity to experiment with field recording and live sampling using nature sounds captured from around Oaxaca.

Schloss Elmau is separated into two wings, a five-minute stroll apart. The original “Schloss” combines its original Jugendstil architecture with awe-inspiring 21st-century details. It contains 115 rooms and suites, five restaurants (one with a Michelin star), a kids’ club, the largest bookstore in any hotel in Germany, and the original concert hall. The “Retreat” opened in 2015 with 47 spacious suites, three restaurants and a gym and yoga pavilion. All told, Schloss Elmau has six separate and lavish spas, some for families, others for adults only, including one discreetly sited for nude bathing and sunbathing. Outdoor pools are heated 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to 85 degrees Fahrenheit. There are year-round programs for children and teens, and copious opportunities for hiking, tennis and skiing.
The ambiance of Schloss Elmau separates it from every other spa resort not only in Germany, but in most of Europe. TheRamsey Keller Memorial, a non-profit organization that pays for infant funerals in Montana, is launching its first-ever national retreat for moms who are living without a child. “The Retreat” is designed to connect moms in person and is slated for the weekend of October 26, 27 and 28 atFairmont Hot Springs Resortnear Butte, Montana. The registration fee is $325/person and moms, nationwide, who have experienced the loss of a child are invited to attend. Topics are primarily focused on infant loss (children 1 year of age or younger and stillborn babies). Nationally known keynote speaker and founder ofStill Standing MagazineFranchesca Coxis donating her time in an effort to offer “The Retreat” at the lowest cost available. Registration includes all scheduled events, the resort room, all meals Saturday and Sunday and additional goodies for attendees.
“Franchesca Cox is known for helping moms grieve and fight for the privilege to love life again,” says Ramsey Keller Memorial Founder Kori Keller. “She has experienced the loss of her firstborn daughter and while she has spearheaded many local and worldwide projects in her daughter’s name, she found the most healing came from living life to the fullest. The Retreat is about celebrating our babies lives and finding joy in life, even through the grief. I’m grateful and humbled that Franchesca is coming to Montana to share her message with moms like myself who have lost a child.”
Franchesca Cox is the author ofFacets of Grief: a creative workbook for grieving mothers, and Celebrating Pregnancy Again. She is scheduled to speak twice during the weekend retreat. Her topics are “The Space Between Love and Loss” and “Broken and Brave.” Cox is also opening up discussion on baby loss to attendees and inviting the audience to participate in a Q & A session.
