SPOTLIGHT ON MARÍA BECERRA

María Becerra is a tour de force. The Argentinian songstress, known as “la nena de Argentina” released her second EP in 2021, embracing and experimenting with hip-hop, reggaeton, trap, R&B, salsa, and more to craft her new sound. Described as a “leading voice in Argentina’s urban pop movement,” Becerra is a star on the rise. As the first Latin artist signed to indie American record label 300 Entertainment and with a Latin Grammy Award for Best New Artist pending, it is clear despite her successes already, she is only just beginning. She sat down to answer a few questions for 360 Magazine including how she got her start in music, the story behind her nickname, her influences, and what to expect from her in 2022.

How would you describe your style of music?

I believe I have a very melodic and versatile musical style. In the studio, we always try to ensure that each song has a varied melodic line, with different degrees of nuances. Above all, we aspire to make a melody that sounds familiar and enjoyable to the public. I have experimented with several genres and in all of them, I was able to find how to make my own style fit within them. I hear they call me ‘the Queen of Weeping,” which makes me laugh. I have many songs that are for dogging and dancing, and others that are a bit sadder.

How did you first become interested in creating music?

From a very young age, art was important to me; I learned how to sing, act and dance as a child. In my home, we listened to a lot of music. For a while, I did covers of famous songs as I learned. I think I was absorbing different music and styles to the point where I felt the need to start expressing myself with my own works. Despite this desire, I was not 100% confident in my abilities yet and had many insecurities. I was afraid of how the public would receive my music and doubted if this was my true path. Luckily, things turned out in a positive way. Today, I have no doubts that yes, I was born to create music and it brings me a lot of joy.

Which songs are you most proud of?

Mm, they are all special to me and fill me with pride. It is difficult for me to pick just one. If I had to choose one, my first instinct is to say Ademas De Mi or Mi Debilidad, that song is very significant to me as an artist. I cried a lot while making it and recording the video.

You were a Youtuber before becoming a singer. How was the experience of transitioning from an influencer to an artist?

YouTube was a beautiful experience, and I am grateful that the opportunity was a positive one. The change in my life was progressive over time. Being on YouTube allowed me the chance for people to get to know me, while I gained confidence and worked on my own fears as a public person. Obviously, my life and my career are now on another path but having the experience of being a YouTuber served as the foundation for everything that has gone on to happen in my life.

What is your favorite fan moment?

My favorite moments are when my fans tell me everything in my music speaks to them. It’s amazing how something I pour so much love into in the studio can reach so many people and positively influence their lives. In live concerts, we would raise up different fans to speak with them, and at one performance a girl told us that with my song ‘Tell Me How I Do,’ she declared her love to her girlfriend. I found it beautiful. Those moments fill me with incredible happiness.

How does it feel to have reached this level of popularity so young?

It still doesn’t feel real. It is incredible to me, but I just try and take things one day at a time. I try to appreciate the small things and remain the humble girl I’ve always been because that’s still who I am. I surround myself a lot with my friends, my family, and my pets who are my rocks – they remind me of where I come from and who I am.

Why do you refer to yourself as the Girl from Argentina?

In general, it is known that many of the best discoveries occur accidentally, and this was no exception. When we recorded Animal with Cazzu, in the song’s lyrics I sing “Las Nenas de Argentina,” as if referring to the two of us. Apparently, when people listened, they heard “La nena de Argentina” and everyone loved that I referred to myself that way. From there, I started to use it as my brand, and I feel it gives me a special power for communicating to the world my music and I are made and from Argentina.

Who are your influences?

Wow, so many artists! I especially love and admire Ariana Grande, Beyoncé, and Rihanna. They are very important role models to me. I watch their shows and videos a lot.

How did it feel to join a label as prestigious as 300 Entertainment?

I am honored and very happy to work with them. They have always been supportive, even affectionate, towards me. Unfortunately, their office is in Los Angeles, so we don’t have the opportunity to see each other that often, but when we do it’s always a special moment. I know the whole team at 300 takes care of me and wants the best for me, so I respect them and thank them very much.

Your most recent EP blended many different genres. Which genres would you like to experiment with in the future?

I like Bachata, and I think more songs like this are coming from me. Yet as I said before, I don’t want to pigeonhole myself. I love to experiment with different genres and different sounds, and that is what is important to me as I create music today. So, in 2022 you and all my fans can be surprised with what I come out with next.

What can we expect to see from you in the future?

I feel like 2022 is going to be a great year. My team and I are working hard to make it so. I’m locked in the studio, and many of the songs we are currently working on are tremendous. I am already anxious for people to listen to them. This year, a new album is coming, as well as trips and several shows in Argentina and Europe. We hope to reach many places and have everyone dance and sing to my music.

ANTHONY HAMILTON NEW ALBUM – LOVE IS THE NEW BLACK.

After teasing more music for the past year and building anticipation among fans worldwide, GRAMMY Award-winning, multiplatinum singer, songwriter, producer, and actor, Anthony Hamilton returns with his anxiously awaited tenth full-length and first album in five years, Love Is The New Black., on September, 24th 2021. Billboard made the exclusive announcement. It notably will be the flagship release under his own label My Music Box in partnership with BMG. Pre-order Love Is The New Black. – Here.

The 14-track R&B opus boasts a bevy of A-list friends and collaborators such as Academy Award winner Jennifer Hudson on the powerhouse “Superstar,” rap powerhouse Rick Ross on “Real Love,” and crunk king himself Lil’ Jon on “I’m Ready.” Other standouts include the smooth “White Hennessy” where his vocals simply intoxicate, the confessional “Mercy,” and one of the most emotionally charged tunes in his storied catalog, the George Floyd-inspired finale “Mama Don’t Cry.”

Check out the full track listing below.

Hamilton literally poured blood, sweat, and tears into Love Is the New Black. After initially pursuing a more political-leaning direction, he shifted focus to speak to this hefty emotional need, while also covering the full spectrum of human emotions.

“Going through the Pandemic, we were faced with challenges, in general,” he states. “Then, we were attacked, slaughtered, and slain. In the beginning, the music was really for people who wanted to stand up in honor of Black Lives Matter. It was initially geared towards those souls, hearts, and the people we had lost. There were some really heavy and strong songs on there. As the world started to open, I wanted to lessen the heavy load and allow everyone to celebrate again. We still got a little bit of that, because it’s not going away, and we’ve gone through a lot. That side will be heard, but we’re taking from a bunch of experiences now, getting through it, and taking a turn. I feel like that’s what people need right now.”

He elaborates, “When creating this album, I wanted people to feel. I’m going into a new era and mindset expecting greatness, love, and peace. I wanted this album to feel like what was missing throughout the pandemic. This is the restoration. We’re making this thing called life, sexy, beautiful, and powerful again.”

His most recent single “You Made A Fool Of Me” has amassed more than one million streams to date. Rolling Stone called it a “pour-salt-in-the-wound ballad.” Soul Bounce called Hamilton “the modern king of churchy, soulful crooners,” and The House That Soul Built hailed the single as “crisp contemporary soul.” The Musical Hype wrote that Hamilton “can do no wrong,” adding that the track “is lushly produced, sounding idiomatic of both the neo-soul and adult contemporary vein of R&B.”

The accompanying video, directed by Terrence Crowley, premiered exclusively on BET Soul and brings back a familiar character with Charlene, reprising her role as the love interest.

It arrives on the heels of last year’s powerful and poignant “Mercy” [feat. Tamika D. Mallory], which Rated R&B praised as an “urgent soul track,” and his electrifying performance at the 2021 NBA All-Star Game.

Watch the video for “Crunk Ain’t Dead Remix (feat. Lil Jon, Juicy J, Project Pat)” HERE. Duke has been on a steady rise catching attention for bringing back an era of crunk music that originated in Memphis but became popular out of Atlanta.

Duke grew up around the sound and recalls the likes of Three6Mafia,8Ball, and MJG as influences as well as his father Duke Nitty who produced the Memphis classic “S.O.U.T.H. Parkway” by Gangsta Blac. Duke Nitty is also credited as a producer for few tracks on MM2. The album sees Duke navigate through diverse production and multiple styles like a veteran. An energetic listen over 12 tracks that could only be made by someone that lives and breathes this scene. It’s a true come up for a rising star in rap. Alongside his music, Duke’s unique dance moves are part of what brought him to Quality Control. After Offset saw one of Duke’s videos, he flew him out to the studio to meet and ended up signing him to QC. Gaining co-signs from the whole QC family as well as Cardi B, Duke Deuce is quickly becoming a recognizable name in the space. Late last year Duke released the video for “Crunk Ain’t Dead,” now at over 10 million views on YouTube.

Following its success, hip-hop legends Lil Jon, Juicy J, and Project Pat hopped on a remix that released just last week. Duke commented on working with them, “It was legendary working beside guys I listened to as a kid growing up in Memphis in the studio with my dad.”

Younk

A little over a month ago the world witnessed an unprecedented event – the Open Beta launch of the first community-based music label – Younk.com. The new platform connects artists, community, and music experts and aims to make the music industry more accessible and equitable for both artists and music enthusiasts. Younk, a decentralized community music platform using blockchain technology, is open to everyone, everywhere.

Younk’s mission is to establish the first community music label where artists gain recognition and support directly from the community in exchange for bonuses.

According to its founder, Andrey Dahkovskyy, Younk’s foremost goal is to modernize the music industry by facilitating direct artist access to the public. This ensures better compensation and community involvement in the funding of up-and-coming artists. Music fans also benefit through a unique opportunity to support their favorite artists and become co-producers of the artist’s tracks and earn YNK Bucks – internal currency of Younk ecosystem. YNK is an instrument that may be used to fund a Hit, get bonuses and purchase merchandise, services and goods on the Younk platform.

Don Grierson, the legendary music industry executive and Younk co-founder shared the platform’s vision as an accessible global marketplace where artists and HitHunting music enthusiasts can connect and support each other while mutually benefiting from the synergy and compounded contribution of the community – whether from a creative point or business wise. “We are entering a new era of making a Hit,” said Mr. Grierson, “the Younk platform is here to make it happen. In almost no time you will be able to listen to a tune that has been supported and directly funded by a community – by active listeners and those who want to make a change in the music industry. Our platform is open to Artists from all over the world, even if they’re not professional musicians. Everyone has a chance now to upload his or her original tune onto the platform and compete with other artists for community support and, further down the road, for their own place on some of the top music charts in the world.”

Unlike regular crowdfunding, which is called Hit Funding in Younk terminology, the new platform gives artists an opportunity to receive first-hand guidance from the professional music experts. It also provides the music fan community the option to be actively involved in creating music charts, to vote, and become co-producers of the the tracks they fund which may become Hits later. All of this helps us all make better music together.

The platform is designed to be user friendly. The process looks like this: an artist uploads a track; the community listens and votes, three tracks go to Hit Funding (two most voted on by the community and one selected by the experts) where YNK Bucks are used to support the community’s favorite tracks. The ones that reach a certain amount of YNK Bucks – soft cap – are then professionally produced by music industry experts. Once the final creative product is

released it gets promoted on approximately 150 digital music platforms. When a track generates revenue, artists receive royalty share in real money equivalent and the track supporters in YNK Bucks equivalent.

By employing innovative technology, Younk provides advanced features and allows for the transparent and decentralized distribution of royalty shares to artists through blockchain’s smart contracts.

“So far, Younk has 5 tracks in the production stage,” said Andrey Dakhovskyy, “ Every day we receive positive feedback from people in the music industry and beyond. This means we’re on the right track. Our platform opens up endless opportunities for both artists and fans – they can create better music together and this is awesome! Welcome to the universe of Younk!”
