U2 ACHTUNG BABY 30TH ANNIVERSARY

U2 Releases Achtung Baby 30th Anniversary Vinyl + Digital Box Set

“[Achtung Baby]… U2’s daring descent into darkness” – Robert Hilburn, LA Times

360 readers should check out both the vinyl release and the never-before seen tracks from the new 50-track digital box set that was released on December 3, 2021!

Island Records, Interscope, and UMe announced the 30th Anniversary Edition release of U2’s seminal album Achtung Baby, which will see a special Standard and Deluxe vinyl release on November 19, ahead of a 50-track digital boxset available December 3, 2021.

Thirty years ago, Bono described Achtung Baby as “the sound of four men chopping down The Joshua Tree” while Jon Pareles of the New York Times wrote that “stripped-down and defying its old formulas, U2 has given itself a fighting chance for the 1990’s”. The album won a Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance and became one of the most significant records of the nineties and of U2’s career.

Recorded over six months at Hansa Studio in Berlin and Windmill Lane in Dublin, Achtung Baby is U2’s seventh studio album. Produced by long-time U2 collaborators Daniel Lanois and Brian Eno with Steve Lillywhite, Achtung Baby was engineered by Flood and released on November 18, 1991. Lead by The Fly, four other singles followed: Mysterious Ways, One, Even Better Than The Real Thing, and Who’s Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses. Watch HERE.

The bonnet of the Trabant will be auctioned at Phillips, London, on December 9, as part of their New Now sale, with proceeds going to the Berlin Institute for Sound and Music.

Achtung Baby (30th Anniversary Edition) is available on Standard black vinyl and Deluxe color vinyl on November 19, with Achtung Baby (2018 Remaster) and Achtung Baby (Unter Remixes) also available digitally that day. A 50-track digital boxset – to include Uber Remixes, Unter Remixes, B-Sides with 22 tracks never-before available digitally – will be released on December 3, 2021.

U2 X-Radio, the band’s SiriusXM channel, will this month present an Achtung Baby special to include interviews with band members and album collaboration Daniel Lanois, Flood, and Anton Corbijn.

In celebration of Achtung Baby’s anniversary, the band have collaborated with Berlin-based French artist Thierry Noir (the first artist to paint on the Berlin Wall) for a special one-off installation at the legendary Hansa Studios in Kreuzberg. Thirty years ago, the band commissioned Noir to paint a series of now iconic Trabant cars, which featured on the album artwork, as well 1991’s Zoo TV Tour. U2 x THIERRY NOIR sees Noir return with a newly painted Trabant for 2021, as well as an exclusive mural painted on a section of the Berlin wall.

Wolf Alice – SMILE

NEW ALBUM BLUE WEEKEND DUE JUNE 11, 2021

Wolf Alice, Britain’s best band, today release their uncompromising new single “Smile” via. The track was inspired by lead singer Ellie Rowsell’s desire to fight back against those who try to define her, and is the second single from their highly-anticipated third album, Blue Weekend, the follow up to the Mercury Prize winning Visions of a Life.

“Smile” is carried along on a tide of visceral energy, a song destined to be a live favorite. The band envisaged this during their time recording Blue Weekend in Brussels during lockdown. Rowsell states, “this is one of the songs we wrote thinking that we would play it live. I miss that feeling of singing on stage. It’s like screaming into a pillow or something — you can get away with being more nasty. There’s a whole other part of me missing.”

“Smile” is accompanied by a video directed by Jordan Hemmingway (Gucci, Raf Simons, Comme Des Garçons), the band’s second collaboration with Hemmingway, following previous single “The Last Man On Earth” (watch). The saturated visuals of the band in full-flow, combined with the casting of riotous punk extras and pub locals, provide the ideal hedonistic backdrop to the track.

“The Last Man On Earth” spent 7 weeks on the BBC Radio 1 A-List. It was premiered by Annie Mac as her Hottest Record In The World, further cementing a longstanding relationship between the band and Annie. Last week, the band released a special live version of “The Last Man On Earth” which can be viewed below.

Wolf Alice are Ellie Rowsell (vocals, guitar), Joff Oddie (guitar, vocals), Theo Ellis (bass) and Joel Amey (drums, vocals). It has been a decade since the band began as a duo of Ellie Rowsell and Joff Oddie,  then later expanding to a four-piece, with Joel Amey and Theo Ellis joining the group. Since then, the band saw their 2015 debut album My Love Is Cool soar to #2 on the UK charts, their sophomore album Visions Of A Life win the 2018 Hyundai Mercury prizeand a GRAMMY nomination for Best Rock Performance. The band played a massive 187 shows on the Visions Of A Life world tour – including a sold out Alexandra Palace, 2 sold out dates at Brixton Academy, and a set on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury.

It was no surprise that creating a follow-up to Visions Of A Life was a daunting task. The record was a huge success, which subsequently led to many months spent on tour – with intercontinental flights, hotels and long-bus journeys taking a toll on the band.

The band decamped to an Airbnb in Somerset, and it was there that they reconfigured who they were together, far away from festival stages, tour buses, awards shows, and fans. They cemented their friendship and set to work on some fledgling demos in a converted church. These demos evolved into Blue Weekend, a record produced by Markus Dravs (Arcade Fire, Björk, Brian Eno, Florence + The Machine) who has aided the band in refining their sound to an even sharper point. Rowsell’s personal storytelling is at the core of Blue Weekend, an album that sees Wolf Alice embrace a newfound boldness and vulnerability in equal measure.

Blue Weekend will be released on June 11th 2021 via Dirty Hit/RCA Records, and will be available on all DSPs & vinyl.

RIVAL SONS LAUNCHES SACRED TONGUE RECORDINGS

BAND REGAINS OWNERSHIP OF EARLY RELEASES

SET TO RE-RELEASE REMASTERED DEBUT LP BEFORE THE FIRE & SELF-TITLED EP ON LIMITED-EDITION VINYL ON MARCH 26TH VIA THIRTY TIGERS

Two time GRAMMY-nominated group Rival Sons have announced the launch of their very own label, Sacred Tongue Recordings, with distribution through Thirty Tigers. The band recently regained the master rights to several of their early releases and will reintroduce them to the world by first remastering their independent full-length debut LP, Before the Fire [2009], and self-titled EP Rival Sons [2010], on all DSPS, CD, and Vinyl for the first time on March 26th. Limited-edition vinyl variants are available for pre-order at their website. They’ve printed up an exclusive run of 1000 copies of both Before the Fire and Rival SonsBefore the Fire will come in an orange splatter variant, while the EP is available in a clear with gold splatter variant. There will also be indie retailer exclusive color-ways of each release in translucent orange and crystal clear, respectively.

Regarding Sacred Tongue Recordings, the band commented, “We’ve talked about creating our own record label from the very beginning. It’s about creating a good home for our back catalogue as the Rival Sons community continues to grow together worldwide. The band has always maintained a stance of independence and sole custody of our early works was the long game. Introducing SACRED TONGUE RECORDINGS, a RIVAL SONS record label.”

By looking back, Rival Sons also leap forward again as they continue working on more music and the follow-up to 2019’s FERAL ROOTS.

Feral Roots not only garnered 2020 GRAMMY Award nomination in the category of “Best Rock Album,” but also yielded a GRAMMY nomination for “Best Rock Performance” for the top 10 rock track, “Too Bad,” as well as the #1 rock radio single, “Do Your Worst.” Produced by multiple GRAMMY Award-winner Dave Cobb at Nashville’s famed RCA Studio A, and the equally legendary Muscle Shoals Sound Studio in Muscle Shoals, AL, Rival Sons’ FERAL ROOTS is available now on all streaming platforms.

Stay tuned for more from Rival Sons and Sacred Tongue Recordings very soon.

About Rival Sons:

Since their emergence in 2009, Rival Sons have quietly reignited and recharged rock ‘n’ roll with towering vocals, uncompromising riffs, and thunderous grooves. Following the independent release of their full-length debut Before The Fire, they were handpicked to perform alongside everyone from AC/DC to Black Sabbath. Working with longtime producer Dave Cobb, the band delivered a series of critically acclaimed albums Pressure & Time [2011], Head Down [2012], Great Western Valkyrie [2014], and Hollow Bones [2016] as they headlined sold out shows on multiple continents. 2019’s FERAL ROOTS broke new ground for the band. “Do Your Worst” shot to #1 on Rock Radio as their first chart-topper at the format. It also scored 40 million-plus streams and counting. They delivered an electrifying performance on The Late Late Show with James Corden and earned acclaim from BillboardRolling Stone, and many more. FERAL ROOTS also gathered a 2020 GRAMMY Award nomination for “Best Rock Album,” while the single “Too Bad” notched a nomination for “Best Rock Performance.” 2021 saw Rival Sons present their own label Sacred Tongue Recordings distributed by Thirty Tigers. Through and through, they embody everything a modern rock band should be and so much more.

Brittany Howard × Jimmy Kimmel

“History Repeats,” From Howard’s Debut Solo Album, Jaime, Nominated For Two GRAMMY Awards – Best Rock Performance And Best Rock Song

Howard Will Also Perform On “The Daily Show With Trevor Noah”

On December 4 And “TODAY Show” On December 5

Brittany Howard will celebrate her two new GRAMMY nominations with a trio of television performances. Tune in tonight to see her perform on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” She’ll visit “The Daily Show with Trevor Noah” on Wednesday, December 4. On Thursday, December 5, Howard will perform on “TODAY Show” in the 8:00 AM hour and also during “3rd Hour TODAY.”

“History Repeats” – from her debut solo album, Jaime – has been nominated in two GRAMMY categories: Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song, bringing her total career nominations to 11. She has won four GRAMMY Awards in her role as lead vocalist/guitarist for the chart-topping band Alabama Shakes. View Howard performing “History Repeats” on “Later…With Jools Holland” HERE.

The New York Times observed, “‘History Repeats,’ the densely layered funk song that opens the album, links personal neuroses – recurring kinds of self-destructive relationships – and societal patterns.” NPR praised the track as “a swirling, punch-drunk and funk rumination on the ways repeated mistakes can hold us back.” Afropunk hailed it as “an instant anthem….and a metaphor for the human condition.”

Jaime, available HERE, was awarded four stars by Rolling Stone, MOJO and Q. “Stay High,” the album’s first single, spent three weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Adult Alternative Songs chart. Views of the official video, which stars Terry Crews (“Everybody Hates Chris,” The Expendables films, Deadpool 2), have surpassed seven million.

Howard –who has performed everywhere from the Obama White House to the main stage at Lollapalooza, where she sang with Paul McCartney at his invitation – wrapped up her North American headline tour last week with performances at The Fillmore in San Francisco and the Fox Theater in Oakland. She spoke with the San Francisco Examiner about the genesis of Jaime in this feature. Her confirmed 2020 dates include a trio of UK shows and performances at the Highwater and Shaky Knees festivals. Additional dates will be announced soon.
