ABOUT TRIPPIE REDD:

One of the most versatile and creatively daring artists in hip-hop today, Trippie Redd makes music that’s both wildly experimental and massively appealing. Since delivering his debut mixtape A Love Letter to You in 2017, the platinum-selling rapper/singer/songwriter has continually defied genre boundaries, embedding his melodic take on rap with frenetic elements of rock-and-roll and heavy metal.

Born Michael Lamar White IV and raised in Canton, Ohio, Trippie grew up on hip-hop icons like Tupac Shakur, Nas, and Jay-Z, but later became fascinated with the shock-rock of Slipknot, Rob Zombie, and fellow Canton native Marilyn Manson. Drawing much of his inspiration from the free-flowing style and inventive lyricism of Lil Wayne, Trippie began recording in his cousin’s basement following the death of his brother and later relocated to Atlanta to further hone his skills, quickly landing a record deal with 10K Projects.

The fourth installment of his signature Love Letter to You series became his first-ever album to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. Released in November 2019, the 21-track effort amassed over 125.9 million streams in its first week alone.

With the coronavirus pandemic forcing artists to improvise, Trippie still made the best of navigating 2020’s uncertain terrain. Outside of recording at his home studio and redecorating his Los Angeles mansion, the 2018 XXL Freshman made it a point to give back to those fighting the COVID-19 pandemic on the frontlines. Trippie partnered with Purity Organic and Sweet Leaf Tea in March to donate more than 32,000 beverages to hospital workers across his hometown of Canton (Mercy), NYC (Northwell Medical), and Los Angeles (Cedars Sinai, UCLA).

His Hollywood acting debut also came in April with a cameo during an episode of Lil Dicky’s critically acclaimed DAVE. The FXX show averaged over 5.3 million viewers per episode in season one and quickly became FX Network’s most popular comedy series.

Trippie caps off the year with the release of his highly anticipated Pegasus album on Halloween. The mythical LP includes previously released singles such as the intoxicating Excitement featuring PARTYNEXTDOOR and Trippie bridging the generational gap with the legendary Busta Rhymes on I Got You. The Dark Knight Dummo rapper adds to his myriad of high-profile collaborations on Pegasus by connecting with Chris Brown, Young Thug, Swae Lee, Lil Wayne and Future among others.

ABOUT SHY GLIZZY:

The past decade of DMV rap belonged to Shy Glizzy. Over the course of a slew of singles, mixtapes, and the critically praised full-length Fully Loaded, he has posted up 100 million-plus total streams and even notched a co-sign from Beyoncé, who bopped to “Awwsome” in 2015 at Global Citizen Festival. He also garnered a GRAMMY® Award nod for appearing on Goldlink’s triple-platinum “Crew.” His bold and bruising lyricism continues to incite tastemaker applause. Of his 2019 project Covered N’ Blood,  Pitchfork commented, “As with all of his best work, the D.C. rapper’s latest finds him grappling with trauma, haunted by the specter of death at every turn.” Meanwhile, The Washington Post has applauded his “artfully pressurized style of mouth-music that keeps you listening close, with every syllable prompting a balancing act in your brain.” The FADER has even called his hooks “silky smooth.” All signs point to the next decade of the DMV belonging to him as well.

COMMON TO RELEASE NEW ALBUM LET LOVE

GRAMMY® Award-winning rapper COMMON will release his new album Let Love on August 30, 2019, his debut for Loma Vista Recordings.

Pre-order it HERE.

In tandem with this announcement, he shared his latest single and music video entitled “Hercules” [feat. Swizz Beatz]. On the track, he serves up his sharp signature wordplay between soulful backing vocals from Swizz Beatz. Meanwhile, the music video directed by Carrick [Weezer] sees Common thwart a convenience store robbery caught on surveillance camera—in between rapping into his iPhone. Vince Staples makes a cameo as the cashier.

Watch the action unfold HERE.

“Hercules” follows on the heels of the recent single “HER Love” featuring Daniel Caesar, special guest Dwele, and an unreleased beat from J Dilla. Not only did the song amass over 1 million cumulative streams and 339K views on the Savanah Leaf-directed music video within a week, but it also received widespread critical acclaim. VIBE called the song “a State of the Rap Union as he addresses the rise and expansion of hip-hop throughout the past 25 years.” Rolling Stone added that it was “Common’s homage to hip-hop”, and OkayPlayer professed that it’s “his most impactful body of work yet.”

Download “Hercules” HERE.

About the album, he shared, “This album is inspired by the book, “Let Love Have The Last Word” which gave me a path to write about things I had never written about before. It forced me to go deeper and because I opened up about so many things in the book, I was charged to go to raw, personal and spiritual places in the music. Production-wise, I knew that the music had to have depth, soul and dimension to it. I wanted the musicianship and the spirit of what live music brings, but it also had to have something raw and basement about it. When my team said, “You should do some music revolving around the book,” I just took that energy and went running into my artistry without focusing on anything else. No movies, no commercials, no parties (well, I don’t do that too much anyway) and I just worked on music. So this album is the culmination of this journey, this passion and this Divine Love that I have for one of GOD’s greatest gifts – MUSIC.”

COMMON will kick off his Let Love Tour, which starts in Denver, Colorado at Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom tonight, and continues through marquee venues in the US and Canada before touring Europe for the first time since 2014.
