Crowns & Hops Brewing Co. Pays Homage

Crowns & Hops Brewing Co., the first Black-owned craft beer brand in Inglewood, CA, is further cementing its dedication to the City of Inglewood through its brand mission of preserving culture, building community, and expanding the palate of consumers in the area.

The commitment starts with the brewery laying roots in the community through its 14,000 square foot location off Manchester Ave. and Crenshaw Blvd. Crowns Inglewood is a community establishment based in the heart of Inglewood, and it will provide a safe family-friendly space to gather, dine and have delicious independent craft beer. To help support this mission, Crowns & Hops Brewing Co. recently launched their equity crowdfunding campaign “OWN CROWNS” to help raise the capital needed for the new location.

“We have always celebrated the mission of community and ownership in the craft beer industry. We’re excited to bring these concepts of investment and equity to a region that has been starved of resources for generations,” said Teo Hunter, COO & Head of Beer Operations.

This investment opportunity allows the community to participate in the revitalization efforts of a city. Crowns & Hops will offer locals and visitors alike an opportunity to publicly connect in Inglewood/South L.A. to enjoy premium products produced in Inglewood. Co-founders Beny Ashburn & Teo Hunter believe this opportunity will allow for the community to invest in the city’s development while supporting Black-owned businesses in the region.

As stated by Beny Ashburn, CEO, “Our brand started with the community. Now, we want to offer the community an opportunity to own a part of Crowns in the City of Champions and wherever we expand.”  360 Magazine is very excited to associate with a company, whose values are to give back to the community.

In addition, last month the brewery co-hosted a panel discussion and mixer at All In Co-Working with the Inglewood Chamber of Commerce and the City of Inglewood in celebration of Black Business Month. The panel specifically discussed balancing the benefits, resources, and initiative in a developing city, with Inglewood Mayor James Butts opening the event by announcing the official date for the ground-breaking of the new Los Angeles Clippers arena. Butts also delivered a heartfelt message about the ongoing progress and growth happening within the city and amongst its residents.

The brewery is also adding a new beer to its selection of craft brews. The beer is called “Inglewood Juice,” with the name paying homage to the city of Inglewood and showcasing the city’s place in their hearts. Inglewood Juice is a juicy IPA full of tropical notes and a traditional hop signature made popular by the West Coast IPA. This beer was brewed for the people of Inglewood, California, a city full of diversity, swag, hustle, resilience, progressiveness, and love.

The brewery will also be participating in two upcoming events. On September 18, they will join Beers without Beards, a female-focused virtual festival where co-owner Beny Ashburn will be speaking on a panel. On September 30, Crowns & Hops Brewing Co. will join the virtual event Gathering Spot LA.

Herbo × Cold World

Today, chart-topping phenom and platinum-selling artist Herbo unveils the music video for his latest single “Cold World” [feat. Yosohn]. Watch it HERE. It remains a standout from his chart-topping fourth full-length offering, 25, available HERE.

The intense visual intercuts surreal imagery with moments of raw intensity. Herbo raps to the camera from a barber’s chair and behind a diamond-encrusted mask often flanked by a giant ice sculpture of the title, 25. The clip captures the caustic nature of the track as he cuts through the production with one lyrical incision after another. For as ominous as it may be, it notably boasts what may be the most special guest of his entire career his son Yosohn.

25 recently crashed the Top 5 of the Billboard Top 200. It not only became his second straight bow in the Top 10 of the chart, but it also emerged as his highest debut yet. It has amassed over 182 million streams and earned widespread praise. Starring on its latest cover, KAZI Magazine went as far as to christen him “Chicago’s Street Rap Messiah”  and HYPEBEAST dubbed it, “Arguably the rapper’s most vulnerable record to date.”

Herbo opens up like never before on the record. Complex hailed it as “a confessional album that opens a window into his world at the quarter-century mark.” His raps rip deeper, while the hooks hit harder than ever. He’s delivered a project that speaks to the struggles of the Windy City and this generation while showing it’s possible to build an empire.

As such, Herbo has assembled his biggest, boldest, and the best body of work to date with 25. Among these 19 tracks, he recruited a cohort of A-list collaborators, including Polo G and Lil Tjay on “Cry No More,” 21 Savage on “T.O.P.”, and The Kid LAROI and Gunna on “You Can’t.” Through and through, his authoritative flows, incisive choruses, and raw heart shine.

He bulldozed a path for the project earlier this year with “Break Yoself,” and “Really Like That.” The FADER attested, “The tracks feel like siblings with their gunmetal-black sounds and visions of violence and wealth, though I can imagine turning up to Really Like That.” Plus, 25 boasts the fan-favorite “Statement,” nearing 10 million streams.

G Herbo is back, and he’s ready to flip the game upside down once and for all on 25. Merch including T-Shirts, Hoodies, and CD’s are available to shop HERE.

ANTHONY HAMILTON NEW ALBUM – LOVE IS THE NEW BLACK.

After teasing more music for the past year and building anticipation among fans worldwide, GRAMMY Award-winning, multiplatinum singer, songwriter, producer, and actor, Anthony Hamilton returns with his anxiously awaited tenth full-length and first album in five years, Love Is The New Black., on September, 24th 2021. Billboard made the exclusive announcement. It notably will be the flagship release under his own label My Music Box in partnership with BMG. Pre-order Love Is The New Black. – Here.

The 14-track R&B opus boasts a bevy of A-list friends and collaborators such as Academy Award winner Jennifer Hudson on the powerhouse “Superstar,” rap powerhouse Rick Ross on “Real Love,” and crunk king himself Lil’ Jon on “I’m Ready.” Other standouts include the smooth “White Hennessy” where his vocals simply intoxicate, the confessional “Mercy,” and one of the most emotionally charged tunes in his storied catalog, the George Floyd-inspired finale “Mama Don’t Cry.”

Check out the full track listing below.

Hamilton literally poured blood, sweat, and tears into Love Is the New Black. After initially pursuing a more political-leaning direction, he shifted focus to speak to this hefty emotional need, while also covering the full spectrum of human emotions.

“Going through the Pandemic, we were faced with challenges, in general,” he states. “Then, we were attacked, slaughtered, and slain. In the beginning, the music was really for people who wanted to stand up in honor of Black Lives Matter. It was initially geared towards those souls, hearts, and the people we had lost. There were some really heavy and strong songs on there. As the world started to open, I wanted to lessen the heavy load and allow everyone to celebrate again. We still got a little bit of that, because it’s not going away, and we’ve gone through a lot. That side will be heard, but we’re taking from a bunch of experiences now, getting through it, and taking a turn. I feel like that’s what people need right now.”

He elaborates, “When creating this album, I wanted people to feel. I’m going into a new era and mindset expecting greatness, love, and peace. I wanted this album to feel like what was missing throughout the pandemic. This is the restoration. We’re making this thing called life, sexy, beautiful, and powerful again.”

His most recent single “You Made A Fool Of Me” has amassed more than one million streams to date. Rolling Stone called it a “pour-salt-in-the-wound ballad.” Soul Bounce called Hamilton “the modern king of churchy, soulful crooners,” and The House That Soul Built hailed the single as “crisp contemporary soul.” The Musical Hype wrote that Hamilton “can do no wrong,” adding that the track “is lushly produced, sounding idiomatic of both the neo-soul and adult contemporary vein of R&B.”

The accompanying video, directed by Terrence Crowley, premiered exclusively on BET Soul and brings back a familiar character with Charlene, reprising her role as the love interest.

It arrives on the heels of last year’s powerful and poignant “Mercy” [feat. Tamika D. Mallory], which Rated R&B praised as an “urgent soul track,” and his electrifying performance at the 2021 NBA All-Star Game.

Love Is The New Black. in 2021.

  1. Love is the New Black.
  2. Threw It All Away
  3. Real Love feat. Rick Ross

Black Girl Duo Wins International Debate Competition at Harvard

For the first time in the history of the Harvard Debate Council, two Black girls from Atlanta have made history as the first Black female duo to win the annual summer debate competition at Harvard University.

Each summer, the Harvard Debate Council, one of the oldest campus organizations at Harvard University, hosts a summer residential program for hundreds of gifted youths from over 15 countries around the world who converge on campus for two weeks of intensive study, which culminates in a program-wide debate tournament. This year’s residency and competition were held virtually due to COVID-19 protocols.

Jayla Jackson, 16, is a rising junior at Holy Innocence Episcopal School. Emani Stanton, 17, is a rising senior at North Atlanta High School. Both girls are current members of the Atlanta-based Harvard Diversity Project, an initiative founded by Harvard’s award-winning debate coach and author Brandon P. Fleming. In 2017, Harvard accepted Fleming’s proposal to establish the Diversity Project as a means to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion on campus.

Fleming recruits underserved Black youth in Atlanta with little to no prior debate experience. He trains them every weekend for one year in Atlanta leading up to the Harvard summer program, exposing them to higher-level academic disciplines. In four years, Fleming has raised over one million dollars to enroll over 100 African-American students into the Harvard debate residency on full scholarship. All four cohorts trained by Fleming’s unique curriculum have gone on to win the international debate competition at Harvard.

This year, Jackson and Stanton secured the 4th consecutive championship for the Atlanta-based team with an undefeated 10-0 record. The topic of debate was, “Resolved: The North Atlantic Treaty Organization should substantially increase its defense commitments in the Baltic States.”

Fleming emphasizes to his students that the program is “bigger than debate.” He states, “The achievements of this program and our scholars reveals to the world the power of educational equity.” Jackson remarks about the historic win, “We want to use our platform to show people what’s possible when the playing field is leveled for those who need it most.”

The Harvard Diversity Project has already accepted a new cohort who will begin training in preparation for the Harvard debate residency of 2022.

You can read more about the story of the program and its founder in Brandon P. Fleming’s bestselling book, MISEDUCATED: A Memoir.

Fleming was recruited to join the Harvard debate faculty at the age of 27. Harvard later approved Fleming’s proposal to establish a new department within the university system called the Harvard Diversity Project – an unprecedented pipeline program of the Harvard Debate Council. For four years, Fleming has led an executive staff and board that has raised over a million dollars to enroll over 100 students of color into Harvard’s international summer debate residency on full scholarship. Fleming recruits underserved youth with no prior debate experience whom he then trains to compete against hundreds of elite debaters from over 25 different countries around the world. Since the program’s inception in 2017, every cohort trained by Fleming has won the international competition. In 2020, Fleming was named to the Forbes 30 under 30 list, and The Root magazine recognized Fleming as one of the top 100 most influential African Americans in the United States. The goal of the Harvard Diversity Project is to promote educational equity by creating opportunities for underserved youth to gain exposure and access to academic training that will distinguish them as top candidates in the college admissions process. King of the Dot Brings Rap Battles to Detroit via Twitch

KING OF THE DOT BRINGS THE HEAT TO DETROIT FOR THE THIRD ROUND OF RAP BATTLES

More than 250,000 viewers tuned in to Twitch to watch live as battle rappers competed in downtown Los Angeles in the second round of this year’s King of the Dot (KOTD).

Watch an Instagram recap of the second round HERE.

KOTD brings the most competitive rappers from across America to clash with flows in head-to-head battles. The top four competitors from each division will move into sudden-death S1 playoffs, which begin in November where they compete for one winner to take home $100,000 in cash.

Viewers on Twitch will be granted access to the exclusive closed set that offers a front-row seat for the battles. Not only will the battles be streamed for millions of fans around the world, but each fan will also play a role in voting on the winners.

Winners of each battle are determined by their Total Battle Score or TBS. A TBS is the score each of the four judges gives the competitor, with a maximum of 10 points and a minimum of seven points per round. Fan votes are weighed as though they make up a single judge, with the rappers getting points depending on whether the win was convincing or close. Each battle, an artist can accumulate a maximum of 150 points, or a minimum of 111 points across the three rounds.

KOTD now heads to Detroit, where rappers in the North region will battle it out. Upcoming matchups include the following:

Mackk Myron vs. Dallas Cash on July 4

Times vs. 100 Shot Frenchie on July 4

Ciddy vs. XQZ on July 4

MORE ON KOTD AND S1

As announced earlier this year, the six-month S1 format introduces a series of weekly episodes organized by King of the Dot and streamed exclusively on Twitch. In November, one winner will take home $100,000 USD and additional performance-based prizes. Catch one of the most intense rap face offs of the summer!&#a0;

Instead of the old East vs West rivalry from the 90ߣs hip-hop, the modern era has burgeoning scenes in every region. With an East, West, North, and South division, King of Dotߣs regional talent managers have courted the top talent from New York, Los Angeles, Detroit, and Atlanta, respectively, to clash for the life-changing grand prize.

League founder and owner Travis Organik Fleetwood says of the S1 partnership, After we saw how the Twitch community and Twitch team embraced battle rap in 2020, we didn’t even blink when we had the chance to make history with them in delivering S1. You learn more from people’s actions than you do from their words, and Twitch demonstrated that they are committed to creating the best experience for battle rap fans around the world every time the ball came their way. We look forward to bringing our audience onto the service for many more successful seasons.

King of the Dot events mix A-List celebrity guests and athletes with a dedicated audience who travel far and wide to participate in the spectacle. Artists like Ice T, Deadmau5, Method Man, and the OVO front-man Drake, who once knighted himself as KOTD’s #1 fan, have helped the league grow to become renowned as the worldwide leader in innovation for this space.

The Canadian King of the Dot league has always been first-movers in the battle rap space with smaller leagues replicating their format for good reason. They were first to popularise winner-takes-all tournaments, the first to create the Pay-Per-View model that is now deployed globally, and the first to launch and license a number of the formats which ultimately define the culture today, including the introduction of seasonality.

S1 seasonality is the only logical step for our league, artists, and partners. The regular cadence enables artists to make new fans every week, from every corner of the map, and puts them in a position to capitalize on their talent all year round. We’re filling Madison Square Garden twice with the number of viewers passing through these streams and our artists deserve even bigger audiences, says Charles Morgan, owner of King of the Dot.

The season will air live battles every Sunday at 12pm pst/3pm est, alongside an exciting slate of lifestyle content featuring artists from the league and around the world. The full programming schedule, covering sports, gaming, music, and culture, will be made available exclusively to viewers on Twitch.

ABOUT TRAVIS ORGANIK FLEETWOOD

Hip-hop booms everywhere – from basements and street corners to arenas and stadiums. Travis Organik Fleetwood has brought the King Of the Dot battle rap league to every corner of the culture supported by a rapt and rabid audience of millions. The Toronto native has evolved from a deft and dynamic wordsmith himself, into one of the most influential executives in the game, respected by icons such as Drake and touted by Vice, The Source, Music Business Worldwide, AllHipHop, and many more.

It all stems from an unwavering passion and commitment to hip-hop.

He discovered that purpose as a kid just outside of Toronto. Gravitating towards hip-hop, he not only loaded up his computer with at least 30,000 songs downloaded on Limewire, but also recordings of battles and videos. The artform of wordplay immediately grabbed his attention. Obsessed with Big L, Chino XL, Method Man, and more, he recorded his own rudimentary loops from an Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) tape and cut his own verses. By high school, he started battling. He triumphed in one competition after another (often returning to win again in subsequent years). He emerged victorious at Canadian BET’s Canadian Spring Bling, Proud 2 B Eh Battle MC, and the World Rap Championship.

More than 132 creators & artist teams across six countries have participated in our inaugural three-week Black Voices Creator Fund Incubator Camps, where industry experts covered everything from Pre-Production 101, lighting, and digital storytelling, to alternative monetization, media coaching, and wellbeing.
