Facebook’s Upcoming Influencer Tool

The world’s largest social network just sent a clear signal that the future of advertising on its platform is in influencer marketing.

Facebook’s launch Monday of its Branded Collabs Manager search engine—which will help connect marketers to social media influencers—demonstrates just how vital this form of marketing has become to the social media giant. Soon brands will be able to search the platform for the audience they want to reach, and have the tool point them in the direction of creators that fit the bill.

The Branded Collabs Manager platform can transparently break down a creator’s audience demographics and industry-specific parameters, ranging from geographical areas to interests to home ownership status.

The plans confirm that the industry is continuing its march towards increasingly targeted and individualized advertising—with ad revenues migrating from mass media to digitally programmatic to influencer marketing. It also signals an increased value placed on ads that are not only highly targeted, but also embedded in content that audiences actually want to engage with.

While the tool is only launching on Facebook at the moment, it’s a first step towards incorporating such tools and metrics from other platforms, most notably Facebook-owned Instagram, which is the social media network of choice for most creators.

The move also signals Facebook’s acknowledgement of the importance of influencer marketing on the future sustainability of the platform itself. After all, if creators believe they can earn more money on other platforms, they would gradually migrate elsewhere, taking their audiences with them.

The Branded Collabs Manager search engine, coupled with Facebook’s recently launched Creator App, demonstrates a clear commitment to the huge potential of creators and the future of influencer marketing. Not only will influencer marketing help the company keep content creators on its platform, but also improve the experience for users by serving them with more engaging ads.

This is an exciting opportunity this presents to the community of creators and marketing partners. Facebook’s new tool will significantly improve the discovery process, making it easier for brands to find creators that meet their needs and fit their brand messaging. At the same time, their push towards more influencer marketing on the platform will only increase the value of the relationships brands have with individual creators, and the collaborations that result.

Unlike traditional ad targeting, finding the right audience and the right avenue to engage them is only one part of the equation. The next vital step is building a relationship that can result in strong, mutually beneficial content partnerships between creators and marketing partners.

Less than five years ago, content marketing was considered by many to be a niche industry. With the world’s largest social media platform jumping in on it, it’s hard to deny that influencer marketing has gone mainstream.

Kimora Lee Simmons Joins The Unmentionables to Aid Refugees in Greece

Athens, Greece, June 20th, 2018: In an impassioned show of support for today’s World Refugee Day, fashion designer, entrepreneur and philanthropist Kimora Lee Simmons and her family are on the ground in Greece with international nonprofit The Unmentionables working with refugees, listening to their stories and learning what can be done to help this vulnerable population. In April of this year, Simmons was named Global Ambassador to The Unmentionables, and together with her family she is helping protect refugees from exploitation and trafficking. Coupled with her business acumen and passion for empowering others, she has emerged as a powerful voice for human rights via her desire to bring awareness to the annual World Refugee Day on Wednesday, June 20th.

Simmons and her family are taking a hands-on approach to giving, dedicating time this summer to migrant and refugee families on behalf of The Unmentionables, who provide training, supplies and education to the refugee community in Greece. Through funds raised on 2017’s Giving Tuesday and a generous personal donation from Simmons, a new resource center for refugees in Athens, Greece was opened earlier this year. Simmons and her family will work from the center and along the migrant path, providing safe and consistent access to basic, important intimate health products as well as sexual health and reproductive education and care to refugees.

According to the International Rescue Committee, Greece, a popular European entry point to migrants escaping perilous conditions in the Middle East and sub-Saharan Africa, currently hosts approximately 50,000 refugees. Earlier this year, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), expressed grave concerns for the safety of women and children in what are known as “hotspots” on Greece’s islands — specifically focusing on overcrowding and lack of hygiene and sanitation. Five camps on Greek islands close to the Turkish coast have surpassed double their capacity as reported by Public Radio International in May 2018. UNICEF warned that in 2017, over 1,800 unaccompanied children were without proper shelter and care in Greece alone. The number of children arriving separated from their families is unprecedented, and currently more than 75% of migrant and refugee children trying to reach Europe via the Central Mediterranean route face appalling levels of sexual abuse, exploitation and trafficking. EU border agency, Frontex, has reported that human trafficking has been on the rise over the past few years (April 2018, ANSA). Human trafficking is prevalent for refugees, especially on the Central Mediterranean route according to an IOM report— 76% of male and 67% of female respondents answered “yes” to at least one of four human trafficking indicators. The indicators include experience of physical violence, work without payment and imprisonment. 80% of males and 66% of females experienced physical violence of any sort during their journey, while 64% of male and 56% of female were held against their will (2017, IOM).

Trafficking and sexual exploitation is not just limited to girls. Although adolescent boys comprise a substantial majority of the population of unaccompanied and separated children, they are rarely the focus of policy discussions and are consistently left out of gender-based violence prevention and response efforts (2018, PLoS Med). The majority of unaccompanied minors in Greece particularly are boys between ages 14-17, stranded and awaiting decisions on asylum and processing, without adequate shelter or ways to generate income. As a result of increasingly dire circumstances, sexual exploitation of minors is rapidly increasing everywhere from encampments to public spaces, where young boys desperate to survive are exploited by older men for payment.

“It’s incredibly important to me to expose this global crisis and bring attention to the level of deep, humanitarian need that exists to support persecuted people around the world,” comments Simmons. “I am deeply grateful to support World Refugee Day and that I can expose my own children to opportunities to make true, hands-on impact for the greater good. There are so many strife-torn families and separated children that need our collective protection as fellow humans to ensure their safety – how can we turn a blind eye? These kids look a lot like mine – they are young, hopeful, beautiful souls.” World Refugee Day, founded by the UN and held annually every June 20th, was designed to spotlight the plight of migrant refugees fleeing for their lives. A staggering 65.6 million people around the world have been forced from home, and among them are nearly 22.5 million refugees, over half of whom are under the age of 18. Nearly 20 people are forcibly displaced every minute as a result of conflict or persecution across our world (UNHCR).

Simmons’ partnership with The Unmentionables initially began in 2017, and her role in the organization has steadily grown. She will further her philanthropic commitment to this cause throughout the year, dedicating fundraising efforts to further the impact of the humanitarian global aid The Unmentionables provides to those most in need. Along with her unwavering commitment, Simmons will continue to advocate for refugees at risk of sexual exploitation and human trafficking.

Beirut × “The Heart of Lebanon”

Written by Rana Salloom

Known as the Paris of the Middle East Beirut, Lebanon is a city that never sleeps and is rooted in its traditional Middle Eastern culture dating back thousands of years.

Lebanon is a small country spanning 110 miles off the Mediterranean coast and its capital, Beirut is the 3rd oldest city in the world. Many westerners know little about this eclectic country, but this tiny country has been standing strong for thousands of years. Beirut, the heart of Lebanon, prides itself with its irresistible cuisine and its insatiable nightlife. People from all over the Middle East, come to Lebanon especially Beirut to unwind and relax at countless restaurants and nightlife excursions. This destination city prides itself with its food with numerous restaurants, bars, and clubs offering food 24/7.

It’s a foodie nation showcasing the best of the best of Lebanese food and culture. Each borrow within Beirut has its own twist on traditional Lebanese cuisine such as Shawarma, Chicken Tawook, Manaeesh, and etc.. These delectable items can be found at many hotspots such as Barbar, Maroushe, and Zaater w Zeit. But the best food finds, in my opinion, are at the local shops on every block in this mini metropolis. These shops offer a more traditional take on Lebanese food and are usually made in a more customary fashion.

Side note: most of the shop owners at these places do not speak English so it’s important to have someone who’s a native speaker be present helping you order your goodies.

Other than its food, Beirut is known for its irresistible nightlife. Beirut, in recent years, has been ranked as the #1 party city in the world mixing both traditional Arabic music and current hits in every nightclub and bar in and around the city. What makes this city so special is it’s night owl effect. People just don’t sleep in Beirut. Visitors and natives alike stay up all hours of the night at lavish nightclubs such as Iris, February 30, Skybar, Music Hall and etc..

If you’re looking for a more mellow bar scene, Mar Mkhayel is the place to be. This street has multiple bars aka pubs and restaurants within walking distance of one another. This street has both the dive bar vibes and the classy rooftop appeals for your visiting pleasure. Basically whatever you are in the mood for, there is a bar for you on this street. What makes this street more interesting is how each bar and restaurant is westernized. For instance, my friends and I walked past this one bar that’s specifically a dive bar for motorcycle enthusiasts and right across from it is a classy rooftop bar called Fabrk (it doesn’t get more diverse than that).

Overall Beirut, Lebanon combines both eastern and western culture in a euphoric twist to keep any party-goer and foodie elated for days. It’s a destination city enveloped in a traditional culture for each traveling enthusiast.

The Path to the Cap Starring D’Angelo Russell

New Era Cap Premieres “The Path to the Cap”

Starring NBA Superstar D’Angelo Russell

A film celebrating the New Era Cap NBA Authentics: Draft Series Collection

June 19, 2018, Buffalo, New York – On the week of the NBA Draft, New Era Cap Co. presents “The Path to the Cap”: a never-before-seen exploration of NBA superstar and 2015 NBA Draft second overall pick D’Angelo Russell’s journey from neighborhood baller to NBA professional athlete. Produced by the international sports and lifestyle brand, the film celebrates the moment Russell donned his new team’s hat – a symbol of success after a young lifetimes’ worth of perseverance and hard work. This year, 60 potential stars will make that same leap, and each draftee will mark their moment in a cap from New Era’s NBA Authentics: Draft Series Collection.

Many will watch as the athletes put on their hats, but few know what the true path to the cap entails – which is why New Era Cap Co. travels back to Russell’s roots in his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky tracing his NBA success story to its origin point. Candid interviews with his parents and two brothers give a behind-the-scenes look at what drove Russell, including a previously unseen sibling rivalry that spawned his competitive spirit.

“The feeling of getting drafted and putting on that team hat was something I dreamed about forever. I worked my entire life to put on that cap,” said Russell. “It is an incredible honor to have worked alongside New Era to tell the story of how I got to that moment, and I’m excited for every player in this year’s draft class to realize that same dream.”

“The Path to the Cap” celebrates New Era’s ongoing partnership with the league around the NBA Draft. In 2018, the brand introduces new editions of the emblematic lids; in addition to individual team logos and colorways, each hat in the collection features a series of unique design elements, featuring custom patches and pins that pay homage to the local city neighborhoods that host the NBA’s 30 teams.

“The NBA Authentics: Draft Series collection is New Era Cap’s most exciting NBA collection to date,” said Mark Maidment, Senior Vice President, Brand at New Era Cap. “We wanted to create visual representations of the excitement these young men will feel for their new homes and fan families. The cap marks the end of their first path and the beginning of the next: the opportunity to represent each of these cities come opening night.”

HER releases video for ‘Icarus’

Today, Her returns with the video for their latest single, “Icarus”—watch here. The song was written by frontman Victor Solf in memory of his best friend and co-founder of Her, Simon Carpentier. The video was directed by French film director Rodrigue Huart for Studio+, and it features various symbols from past Her videos, “Queens,” “SWIM,” and “Blossom Roses,” which represent renewal, hope and melancholy.

Of the song, Solf says, “‘Icarus’ is a song that I wrote in memory of Simon, and it explains why I am continuing now. This video is very special to me because it tells the whole story of Her in one video. Core fans will be able to recognize several symbols from our past videos.”

“Icarus” is taken from Her’s critically-acclaimed, self-titled debut album released earlier this year—listen here. The debut album also features Her’s hit tracks, “We Choose,” “Neighborhood” and “On & On” (feat. AnnenMayKantereit & Roméo Elvis).

While still in school, the half-German Victor Solf and the French Simon Carpentier met in 2007, bonded like long lost brothers, started making music together equally informed by old school soul a la Otis Redding and post-Yeezus hip-hop and formed Her in 2015. Success followed as the breakout “Five Minutes” soundtracked Apple’s “Shot on iPhone” campaign and eventually generated over 8 million Spotify streams. The duo released a pair of EPs Her Tape #1 and Her Tape #2, spawning fan favorites such as “Quite Like,” “Union,” “Her” and amassing over 20 million cumulative Spotify streams. Merging artfully seductive and provocative visuals and dreamy newer wave pop with a jazz undercurrent, the boys crisscrossed the globe in support of the EPs, including making waves stateside. In the middle of it all, unbeknownst to anyone but those closest to him, Simon lost a long, quiet and arduous battle with cancer in August 2017. With his friend’s spirit always close by, Victor worked on what would become the duo’s 2018 major label full-length debut, Her [Republic Records].
