We really missed seeing and playing for our fans and we are happy we can experience and enjoy live music with each other once again. We are looking forward to celebrating and bringing in a brighter new year with everyone,” says The Go-Go’s.

With concerts finally making a very welcomed return, longtime fans can celebrate with the newest inductees to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the new generation of fans can see the band that they discovered through the documentary,” says Art Cisneros, The Go-Go’s Manager.

Rooted in the early L.A. punk scene, Charlotte Caffey (lead guitar, keyboards, vocals), Belinda Carlisle (lead vocals), Gina Schock (drums, percussion, vocals), Kathy Valentine (bass guitar, vocals) and Jane Wiedlin (guitar, vocals) didn’t PLAY the part of bad girls; they were genuine punk rockers. In 2020 the band released their documentary THE GO-GO’S, which first premiered at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival to rave reviews, achieving a 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and won a 2020 Critics Choice Award for “Best Music Documentary” in addition to receiving the honor of “Most Compelling Living Subjects in a Documentary.” Directed by Alison Ellwood, the candid and archive-rich documentary assesses the group’s place in music and the first to set the record straight about their historical ascent to global stardom. The Go-Go’s first new recording in nearly 20 years, Club Zero hit the Top 10 on the Rock Digital Song Sales chart upon its release and the documentary captures them working on an early version of the song.

Locked at No. 1 on the Billboard charts for six consecutive weeks, Beauty and the Beat was one of the most successful debut albums of all time, featuring the hits Our Lips Are Sealed (one of Rolling Stone’s ‘Top 100 Pop Singles’) and “We Got the Beat” and resulted in a Grammy® nomination for Best New Artist. The Go-Go’s became a global phenomenon and blazed brand-new trails in music – for women in particular.

THE GO-GO’S

As the most successful all-woman rock band of all time, the Go-Go’s performed catchy, well-crafted songs that formed a bridge between the brash urgency of L.A. punk and the dark melodies of new wave pop.

Formed out of the diverse and egalitarian punk scene in Los Angeles in 1978 with Belinda Carlisle on lead vocals and Jane Wiedlin on rhythm guitar and vocals, the core lineup of the band solidified over the next few years with the additions of lead guitarist and keyboardist Charlotte Caffey, drummer Gina Schock, and bassist Kathy Valentine. Known for their raw and energetic live shows, the Go-Go’s circumvented record label sexism and signed with IRS Records in 1981. Their debut album Beauty and the Beat was released later that year and became the first (and, to date, only) album by an all-woman band that played its own instruments and wrote its own songs to top the Billboard albums chart.

Despite a shift toward a more melodic new wave sound, the band’s D.I.Y. punk roots remain evident in hits like “We Got the Beat” and “Our Lips Are Sealed.” The group’s second and third studio albums, Vacation (1982) and Talk Show (1984), furthered their success with the singles “Vacation” and “Head Over Heels.” In heavy rotation on MTV, their songs (primarily composed by Caffey, Wiedlin, and Valentine) had weighty lyrics belied by their sunny melodies and a timelessness that set the band apart from many of their 1980s counterparts.

Though the band broke up in 1985, the Go-Go’s have reunited periodically since 1990 to record and tour. In recent years, the band’s music has been celebrated with the Broadway musical Head Over Heels and chronicled in the Showtime documentary The Go-Go’s (2020). For the documentary’s soundtrack, the band reconvened virtually to record their first new song in 19 years, “Club Zero.” The Go-Go’s influence is seen in countless artists, including Bikini Kill, Green Day, and Nirvana.

Selected discography:
“Screaming” (Live, 1979) • “Blades” (Live, 1980) • “We Got the Beat” (Stiff Records single version, 1980) • “Our Lips Are Sealed,” Beauty and the Beat (1981) • “Vacation,” Vacation (1982) • “Head Over Heels,” Talk Show (1984) • “The Whole World Lost Its Head,” Return to the Valley of the Go-Go’s (1994) • “Unforgiven,” God Bless the Go-Go’s (2001) • “Club Zero,” Beatnik Beach Summer (2020)

Inductees: Charlotte Caffey, Belinda Carlisle, Gina Schock, Kathy Valentine, Jane Wiedlin

I love working around timeless vocals and although it’s challenging to preserve elements of the original track and adding my own touch, I’m extremely happy with how it turned out!” It’s been a big summer for Kygo who back in May released his critically acclaimed third full-length album Golden Hour  which features his hit single  “Lose Somebody” with OneRepublic as well as “Higher Love” with Whitney Houston, the latter of which has more than 651 million audio and video streams combined and charted at Top 40 radio. Now, Golden Hour signals Kygo’s brightest moment yet.

Tina Turner is revered around the world, inspiring millions through her own personal story, her singing, her dancing and beyond. Her music legacy is a collection of some of the best-known songs of all time, just utter the phrase “You’re simply the best” you’d be hard-pressed to find a person who doesn’t know the next line! Turner rose to prominence in 1958, aged 19, as a duo with her then-husband Ike Turner, initially as a featured singer with Ike Turner’s Kings of Rhythm, recording under the name “Little Ann” on the track ‘Boxtop’.

Her introduction to the public as Tina Turner began in 1960 as a member of the Ike & Tina Turner Revue with the hit single ‘A Fool In Love’ in 1960. Success followed with a string of notable hits, including ‘It’s Gonna Work Out Fine’ (1961), ‘River Deep – Mountain High’ (1966), ‘Proud Mary’ (1971), and ‘Nutbush City Limits’ (1973). In 1976, following a string of personal altercations, Tina left the musical duo and filed for divorce. A solo career ensued…In 1977, she went back on stage touring rigorously, then in November 1983, she released a cover of Al Green’s ‘Let’s Stay Together’ which became a hit. In June 1984 she released the ‘Private Dancer’ album and it’s second single ‘What’s Love Got to Do with It’ became a global smash as did the album.

From there, Tina became, and continues to be, one of the most loved artists in the world and this incredible career continues to build. In March 2018, ‘Tina’ – The Tina Turner Musical, opened at London’s Aldwych Theatre to amass acclaim with Radio 4’s Front Row calling it “One of the most impressive musicals I’ve ever seen” and The Times saying it is a “… raw musical triumph”. The smash hit ‘Tina’ – The Tina Turner Musical opened at Broadway’s Lunt-Fontanne Theatre with ABC News raving, “Mind blowing and life changing. A story that needs to be shared, especially today,” and Billboard saying, “The powerhouse voice, jackhammer legs, and above all, the heart.

Not to be missed.” Her memoirs, ‘Tina Turner: My Love Story’, released in October 2018, was also met with a similar adulation, “Turner comes across as courageous, optimistic, big-hearted and generous” (Sunday Times), “Astonishing, soul-baring – the must-read memoir by rock’s greatest survivor” (Daily Mail) it also made the Mail On Sunday’s Books Of The Year list for 2018. In 2019, to celebrate Tina’s 80th birthday, her husband Erwin published “That´s My Life”, a Limited Edition photo book accompanied by letters from friends such as Mick Jagger, Bryan Adams and Beyonce.

ABOUT EVVIE MCKINNEY:

With undeniable spirit, mile-high range, and earthquaking delivery, Evvie McKinney exudes her own sense of style, swagger, and soul that’s both classic and current.

Born and raised in the birthplace of Soul and Rock ‘n’ Roll Music Memphis, TN, the 20-year-old made history when she emerged as the first winner of FOX’s hit series The Four: Battle For Stardom. However, her journey began at five-years-old when she joined her first choir at the urging of her mother and musician father. One of seven kids, she faced hardship throughout childhood with dad passing in 2005 and mom struggling to support the family. Living in a home provided by Habitat for Humanity, Evvie pursued her dream relentlessly. She went from the Young Actors Guild Theatre and Dance Company to Stax Music Academy where she assumed the role of lead singer and actress. Along the way, she performed for everyone from David Porter to LaLa Hathaway and shared the stage with Sam of Sam and Dave and Larry Dodson of The Bar-Kays, to name a few. By 2015, she achieved a National YoungArts Foundation scholarship and would be recognized as its “Merit Winner” in Popular Voice.

2017 saw her audition for The Four. From the jump, she instantly captured the hearts of millions by belting out classics from Aretha Franklin and Tina Turner in addition to serving up a heart-wrenching rendition of the Academy® Award-winning “Glory” by Common and John Legend. Now, she stands poised to leave an indelible mark on soul with her debut single “How Do You Feel” and more music on the horizon.
