EagleRider and Harley-Davidson Alliance

EagleRider, the world’s largest motorcycle rental and travel company, and Harley-Davidson continue to make major strides in the strategic alliance between the two brands – activating more than 120 Harley-Davidson® dealerships as rental locations throughout the United States.

“After rounding the corner of an incredible first year, we are thrilled that our partnership with Harley-Davidson continues to produce great results for our industry,” said Chris McIntyre, CEO and Co-founder of EagleRider. “Our companies have been consistently delivering exciting rides for consumers through the largest connected network of motorcycle rental locations in the U.S. We look forward to bringing more dealerships on-board as our network expands.” With the large scope of rental locations, riders can begin and end their two-wheeled adventures almost anywhere in the United States.  The 150+ new locations give riders from around the world additional access to America’s most popular tourist destinations and motorcycle routes like the iconic Route 66 and Pacific Coast Highway.

Both companies are committed to helping travelers explore America in the most authentic way possible, on an iconic Harley-Davidson® motorcycle. Every EagleRider/Harley-Davidson location can set riders up with guided tours, daily rentals and Club EagleRider membership opportunities.

rough the alliance, which was announced in May 2017, EagleRider exclusively offers current model year Harley-Davidson® motorcycles for its Touring and Large Cruiser motorcycle rental segments, equipped with Harley-Davidson® Genuine Motor Parts and Accessories. Harley-Davidson works exclusively with EagleRider to provide rental, travel and tour experiences from its U.S dealership network.

Additionally, EagleRider launched an all-new program earlier this year for qualified dealers to purchase pre-owned Harley-Davidson motorcycles from EagleRider’s expansive fleet. The EagleRider Dealer Exchange, known as ERDX, is a convenient and cost-effective way for dealerships to expand their pre-owned bike offerings from a trusted source. In June, EagleRider expanded its online platform by launching the mobile application so buyers of pre-owned bikes can purchase inventory from any place at any time directly from their mobile device at value pricing.

Toto Covers Weezer’s “Hash Pipe”

Toto recorded their personal interpretation of Weezer’s “Hash Pipe”.  The smoking rendition of the song is a direct response to the run-away success being witnessed globally for Weezer’s covers of the hits “Africa” and “Rosanna.”

Toto’s guitarist Steve Lukather shares, “We were blown away at the response Weezer got doing our old songs.  They did a good job too, but we never saw hit records coming from it.  It was all started by a sweet 15-year-old girl named Mary. Then the ball started rolling.  They did two of ours and ‘Africa’ took OFF.  It seemed only right that WE – Toto did a version of one of their songs so we started digging around, listening to a bunch of their music, which I have grown to like a lot. My 30 something kids were flipped over Weezer recording two of our songs as they are fans and we picked ‘Hash Pipe’. The irony that we were smoking hash before these guys were alive was not lost on us, and the other is it has a killer melody and a great groove.  We wanted to do something that rocked. We give you our version – with a little of our thing on it like they did their ‘ thing’ to ours. It is an unlikely collaboration, but some of the best ones are unexpected. Thanks to Weezer, their manager Jonathan, and their fans as they have been really nice to us…and they didn’t have to be. Now I guess we have to do some crazy mash up live someday. In the meantime, continued success.  Thanks to all and hope to meet someday.  Gratitude to the fans for embracing this fun little accident. Ours drops Aug 10th, and I hear KROQ is getting thousands of requests from the teaser we recorded the other day – who knew? Kudos to Steve Porcaro for running with this as the Producer.”

Keyboardist Steve Porcaro offers, “Covering Hash Pipe was an absolute blast. When I asked my neighbor, a huge Weezer fan which record we should cover, he rattled off about five of their biggest hits, but then he smiled and said ‘but there’s nothing like driving down the freeway at 80 miles an hour with ‘Hash Pipe’ cranked’.  That stuck with me when it came time to decide.”

Singer Joseph Williams cannot be reached at this time as he is too high on hashish, but previously when asked about “Hash Pipe” shared simply, “Yeah.”

From the moment of release, Weezer’s version of “Africa” was embraced overwhelmingly by the public and music industry.  At iTunes, the recording peaked at #1 in sales and continues to show strong movement.  At Spotify, the cover hit #1 on the viral chart. At radio, total plays have reached 6269 in The U.S., and is a hit at Alternative currently sitting at #1. The track is hitting Hot AC and Pop now making strong moves up the chart.

Los Angeles alternative juggernaut KROQ placed Toto’s recording of “Hash Pipe” on-air to break the story of the new track’s existence.  On Friday, August 10, Toto’s rendition will be up on all music services, and delivered to radio for airplay globally.  For more detail keep an eye on www.totoofficial.com.

Toto has partnered with Universal Music Germany on the release of “Hash Pipe”.  The company will be spearheading the global release of the recording.  Toto is currently touring North America in support of the band’s recent release 40 Trips Around The Sun.

Behind the Seams at Paul Stuart: Javier Suarez

If you aren’t familiar with Paul Stuart, it is a men’s and women’s clothing brand based in New York City that was founded by Ralph Ostrove in 1938.

Behind the brand’s success is its most helpful team, that in which includes Javier Suarez.

Suarez, who is the Creative Director for men’s shoes and belts, was first appointed to position last August. With him, he’s brought several decades of experience, along with genuine relationships with key manufacturers for the industry in Italy and England.

He started his career with Bally of Switzerland and then Cole Haan, that in which soon led to him spending the next 27 years launching and growing the men’s shoe business of Salvatore Ferragamo.

He brings a unique and rare sense of style to shoemaking, especially in the current retail climate where quantity is unfortunately valued over quality.

What’s different that he does is that unlike larger footwear companies that rely on factory machines, Javier prefers the artisanal families that turn his work dream into reality.

“The strength of Italian production is the wealth of craftsmanship, the people and families that have been doing this forever,” Javier says.

As an expert in shoe design and making, he brings his talent to a comprehensive narrative to Paul Stuart.

“It’s a wardrobe of shoes: we carry the Paul Stuart customer from his work day to his weekend, and on to special formal occasions. It’s a complete collection of footwear with the same characteristics and quality craftsmanship the brand is so well known for in our tailored clothing,” he continues.

His inspiration on the new collection to was the evolution of the iconic nature of the Paul Stuart Style where the standard style were renewed to fit today’s tastes in fashion.
“Shapes, materials, and designs are kept classic but updated to keep up with a modern contemporary sensitivity,” he adds.

Javier’s absolute favorite styles from the collection are The Monaco and The Bandaccio. The Monaco is a brogue wedge sole suede oxford that works perfectly for work and play with super comfort and sharp style. As for the Bandaccio, it is a double buckle zippered combat boot that is handcrafted and has a hand custom polished bravura with “combat” ready Goodyear construction.

Javier believes that the direction in today’s men wear surrounds the idea of innovation–less formality and street wear. “We offer a wardrobe of shoes from casual sneakers to formal wear, keeping a keen eye on a Paul Stuart style sensitivity…it’s again more about the expectation and needs of the consumer than trends for the sake of trends,” he shares.

When asked about the collection and how it ties in with the apparel collection at Paul Stuart, Javier states that the collection connects with everything they do in apparel.

“Paul Stuart’s as a destination for fine tailoring now offers a complete range of innovative elegant and unique dress styles in a coordinated color palette. Antiqued calf, textured grain leathers and sophisticated suede colors compliment the use of texture and color in tailored clothing and sportswear,” he says.

Since 1938, Paul Stuart has been the leading arbiter of taste and style for luxury menswear and womenswear here in the U.S. Celebrating its 80th anniversary this year, the brand outstandingly continues to design and create an exclusive collection of men’s and women’s tailored clothing, sportswear, and accessories.

City Girls Release New Video

CITY GIRLS RELEASE PERIOD VIDEO

DOCUMENTARY TRAILER REVEALED

FEATURED ON DRAKE’S SONG AND VIDEO FOR IN MY FEELINGS

“A synthesis of perspective reminiscent of Run-DMC and Salt-N-Pepa” – PITCHFORK

“Raunchy, in-your-face songs for the independent women of the world.” – XXL

“The heist-level bars feel like something rap has been missing for the better part of a decade.” – NOISEY

August 06, Miami Today you will have a chance to get to know J.T. and Yung Miami of the most provocative female hip-hop duo in years, City Girls, as they share a new video for “Period” from their recent project of the same name (Quality Control Music). The duo are the next generation of female rappers out of Miami, and you get to run on their turf when you WATCH HERE.

A trailer for a City Girls’ documentary (Quality Control / Mass Appeal) also surfaced today. Watch HERE.

Set to premiere later this month, and directed by Marcus Clarke, the documentary Point Blank Period follows Quality Control’s newly signed artists as they break into a predominantly male-dominated industry with their debut album. Exclusive interviews with City Girls’ Yung Miami and J.T., as well as industry trailblazers Trina, Kevin Coach K Lee and Pierre Pee Thomas, expose the complicated road to breaking female artists in the changing music landscape. While the girls’ collaboration with Drake on In My Feelings rendered the #1 chart topping song in the country, the girls’ quick ascension from local Miami artists to viral sensations has presented a whole new set of challenges as City Girl J.T. prepares for a looming jail sentence. The documentary covers their struggle to the top as Quality Control’s first female artists and how they plan on coming back stronger than ever after surviving the incarceration of one half of the duo at such a pivotal moment in their career.

J.T. and Young Miami are brash, raw, uncensored with a swagger rooted in the queens who came before them. Their empowered themes were originally put forth by Foxy Brown, Salt N’ Pepa, Khia and friend/Miami-based and mentor Trinawhose own influential career help spawn and revolutionize female music and rap.

Coach K and Pierre “Pee” Thomas of the renowned Quality Control Music label discovered the girls and took their first song “Fu*k Dat N****” from a regional hit to a national smash when it appeared on the seminal Quality Control Presents: Control The Streets Vol 1 compilation. Period has been covered by the likes of Pitchfork, Noisey, XXL, COMPLEX, FADER and more. Honorable descendants in the lineage of Miami’s legendary music culture, akin to a long history of powerful women in the rap game, City Girls are the next queens to claim the throne.

UNESCO Designates Japan’s 18th World Cultural Heritage Site

UNESCO has designated a series of sites associated with the checkered history of Christians in 16th- to 19th-century Japan as the country’s 18th World Cultural Heritage Site. The “site” is comprised of 10 villages in northwest Kyushu, as well as the ruins of Hara Castle – originally built by the Portuguese – and St. Mary’s Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in the city of Nagasaki.

Because the practice of Christianity was banned in Japan until 1873, Christians (known as Kakure Kirishitan) worshipped – and missionaries spread the gospel – in secret. It is the sites’ “secret” churches in remote seacoast “Christian” villages and isolated islands that are the main component of UNESCO’s recognition. The ruins of Hara Castle are another element, as it was used by Portuguese and Dutch missionaries.

One of the most visible examples of UNESCO’s designation is Nagasaki’s Roman Catholic St. Mary’s Cathedral – also known as the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception – built in 1914 after the ban on Christianity was lifted. The original cathedral was destroyed by the atomic bomb that fell on Nagasaki in August 1945 and a replica of the original was consecrated in 1959. Statues and artifacts damaged in the bombing, including a French Angelus bell, are now displayed on the grounds (and at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception). The nearby Peace Park contains remnants of the original cathedral’s walls. Oura Church is another Catholic church in Nagasaki. Built towards the end of the Edo Period in 1864 by a French missionary for the growing community of foreign merchants in the city, it is considered the oldest standing Christian church in Japan and one of the country’s greatest national treasures.

Historically, Nagasaki was long the initial entryway for foreigners to Japan. It was in Nagasaki in 1859, after the United States’ Commodore Perry used gunboat diplomacy to demand an end to Japan’s more than 200-year-old policy of isolation, that diplomats from countries around the world came to demand that the port be opened to trade. Thereafter, Emperor Meiji declared Nagasaki a free port in 1859. And it was Nagasaki that was the setting for John Luther Long’s 1898 novel, Madame Butterfly, which, in 1904, was transformed into an opera by Giacomo Puccini, and remains one of the world’s most beloved operas.
