Backstreet Boys Get Their Heads Shrunk at The Golden Tiki in Las Vegas

The Backstreet Boys participated in that epic Vegas ritual known as a Golden Tiki Headshrinking, taking part in a semi-secret appearance Sunday afternoon. Around 2 p.m. yesterday (July 27, 2025), Backstreet Boys Nick Carter, Brian Litrell and AJ McLean were greeted at the Chinatown tiki bar by dozens of fans who got word of the event, officially announced only a couple of hours prior, and unveiled heads of all five members. 

The event also included a menu of seven special Backstreet Boys tiki cocktails (and n/a cocktails) which will be available during their residency at the Sphere through Aug. 24.

Custom made in their likenesses, the heads will join a unique collection that includes similar ‘honors’ bestowed upon Vegas luminaries and renowned entertainers including Vince Neil, Sammy Hagar, Pauly Shore, Aaron Paul and Bryan Cranston, Playboy Playmate Claire Sinclair, Fighter Randy Couture, Robin Leach, Rod Stewart, Siegfried & Roy, Carrot Top and many more. 

Over 250 similar heads have been created and dedicated since The Golden Tiki opened in 2015. The world famous tiki bar will officially celebrate its tenth anniversary in August.

The Summer Menu draws on the season’s finest produce from across Europe, Asia and Japan. Guests can expect reimagined signatures alongside elegant new creations that reflect Martin’s vision and technical finesse, from pristine seafood preparations to layered, umami-rich broths and intricate pastry work.

The nine-course tasting experience, complemented by delicate canapés, embodies the blend of Asia with Nordic-Japanese gastronomy at its finest, featuring dishes such as crustacean tartlets with Thai basil and chawanmushi with awabi, foie gras, matsutake. Finishing with the latest dessert, which uses sweet potato from Okinawa, made into ice cream with chestnut honey and topped with slow-roasted pineapple and mezcal caramel.

Having worked alongside Chef Björn Frantzén for over a decade, Martin brings an intimate understanding of the Zén ethos, marrying highlights of Asia with Nordic culinary philosophy and Japanese ingredients and techniques. 100 Thieves Summer Block Party 2025

On July 26, 2025, the 100 Thieves Compound in Los Angeles transformed into a vibrant hub of gaming, lifestyle, and community for the annual Summer Block Party, presented by Lexus. Drawing over 1,000 fans, the day-long event was a dynamic blend of entertainment, interactive activations, and exclusive collaborations, cementing 100 Thieves’ status as a cultural powerhouse in esports and streetwear.

Among the standout vendors was Oakley, showcasing their collaborative eyewear collection with 100 Thieves. The highlight was the Radar EV Path 100T Matte Black sunglasses, featuring a striking red and black color scheme with Prizm™ Road lenses. These futuristic shades, adorned with 100 Thieves’ Geo-Print inspired by video game HUD interfaces, resembled sleek space goggles, blending high-performance optics with a bold gaming aesthetic. This interactive setup, inspired by a past AT&T-sponsored livestream where Nadeshot nailed a hole-in-one on his 79th try, allowed fans to test their putting skills. The installation buzzed with excitement, blending competitive fun with the organization’s signature flair.

The Block Party also featured a VALORANT LAN setup, live DJ performances, and meet-and-greets with 100 Thieves creators and the Call of Duty team, who were fresh off their 2024 championship wins. With tons of arcade games, pc consoles, food trucks, a Heineken beer garden for those 21+, and exclusive apparel drops, kept the energy high and a true block party vibe.

TO LAUNCH NEW ENTERTAINMENT VENTURE HYDE

In a world of remakes and sequels, Johnny Depp and Ridley Scott have joined forces with Jesse Negron’s Mechanical Cake to build a new, original entertainment property from the ground up, HYDE, with all three having co-ownership, the trio jointly announced today.

Created by Jesse Negron, HYDE picks up Mr. Hyde’s story, from the Robert Louis Stevenson novella Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and imagines a world where Mr. Hyde has defeated Jekyll. Now unencumbered by interruptions from his alter ego, Hyde can finally freely explore his dark tendencies with uninhibited abandon. The 2-volume graphic novel series finds Mr. Hyde in his new domain, the sewers beneath London, where he experiments on others, using the corrupting serum to create even more “Hydes.” Each volume in the series will contain two chapters with over two hundred pages. Johnny Depp will have input on all aspects of the property and create the character of Hyde.

“To build within the world of Robert Louis Stevenson’s masterful characters and to be welcomed into the vision of Ridley Scott… and inexplicably having the opportunity to explore.” Depp ponders. “It’s surprising to me. And hopefully surprising to him. It’s insane and beautiful to receive that trust from Ridley. A master.”

When Ridley Scott, with his instinct for world building, first saw the poster mockup and the concept pitch, understood the potential of Hyde, he said: “It’s a no-brainer!”  

“This is an incredible opportunity to build a studio-level project that goes directly from the creators to the audience, with no filters in between,” said HYDE creator Negron.

The series is written by Jesse Negron and Joe Matsumoto, edited by comic book veteran Dave Elliott, and drawn by legendary artists Gary Erskine and Chris Weston. Scott Free Senior VP Tom Moran, COO Infinitum Nihil Jason Forman, and Mechanical Cake CFO Tom Sanders will oversee the partnership. 

“HYDE, like everything Mechanical Cake does, is a bit off the rails, in a good way. We execute at a whole other level. We cannot wait to unleash HYDE into the world at San Diego Comic-Con this year! We invite everyone to come by our booth, which takes you into the worlds of our graphic novel series, MODVILLE and HYDE,” said Negron.

At San Diego Comic-Con, an exclusive collectible large format HYDE ashcan (graphic novel preview), will be given to all attendees at the panel this week, HYDE: When the Worlds of Graphic Novels and Movies Collide, in Hall H on Thursday, 1:30-2:30pm. The HYDE ashcan will also be available as a free download on the Mechanical Cake website, and all SDCC attendees can drop by the HYDE booth for other collectible HYDE swag. 

The graphic novel HYDE  chapter 1 of 4, which will ship on Halloween this year, is currently available for pre-order at mechanicalcake.com, and will also be available for pre-order at the HYDE booth at San Diego Comic-Con.

HFA is organized by LA Vision Entertainment and serves as the fundraiser for the Elton John AIDS Foundation (EJAF), a nonprofit that is committed to overcoming HIV and LGBTQ+ stigma, discrimination, and neglect that prevents us from ending AIDS for everyone, everywhere.

The Awards celebrate fashion’s role at the intersection of culture, creativity, and positive change, spotlighting the talent and stories that defined the past year.

A Jury of 3,000 industry professionals — editors, buyers, stylists, photographers, educators, and executives, distributed equally across all six inhabited continents to ensure a truly global perspective on contemporary fashion made the selections in their first global voting. Their votes were cast anonymously via a secure platform to ensure transparency and geographic parity.
