Chicago Bulls Debut Custom Basketball

From Virgil Abloh’s “The Ten” to sneakerheads DIY-ing their classic pair of Air Force 1’s, custom sneakers have taken the culture by storm. This art form is now taken off the ground – and for a good cause. Instagram’s favorite sneaker customizer Kickstardomis teamed up with the Chicago Bulls player Lauri Markkanen on a custom painted basketball, and the player will now be quite literally shooting hoops with the world heat map. In the wake of IPCC’s new report, the ball features this year’s outlook on the world’s climate.

The act is part of Markkanen’s #DontChoke campaign with the Finnish renewable energy company Neste. #DontChoke is a call to action for bringing attention to individual’s choices’ role in battling climate change.

Should customized items move towards taking a stand on important issues?

Lauri Markkanen Gives Up Red Meat

The individual’s role in combating climate change is becoming a prevalent topic, following the release of the IPCC report this autumn. Leading by example, NBA star Lauri Markkanen is taking a stance by changing his daily eating habits. As his first action to combat climate change on a personal level, the Chicago Bulls player has given up eating red meat.

“As my first action for #DontChoke, I pledge to stop consuming red meat as a concrete step towards minimizing my personal carbon footprint. Every move counts, play your part”, Markkanen declares on social media.

Following his #DontChoke collaboration with renewable energy company Neste, the decision is an exemplary step in doing his part in the fight against global warming.

Markkanen explains, that having recently become a father has made the well-being of the environment even more significant to him. Markkanen encourages his fans to follow in his footsteps to ensure a better environment for generations to come. “I want to do everything in my power so that my child will grow up in a clean environment, like I did. This is a call to all my fans to do their share”, Markkanen explains.

The #DontChoke campaign is a call to action for individuals to do their share in battling climate change. The NBA player kicked off the campaign by shooting hoops with a basketball covered with a hand painted visualization of this year’s heat map. Throughout the on-going campaign, Markkanen will consider the elements of his own lifestyle and opt for more sustainable alternatives. Leading by example, the NBA player hopes to encourage others to make their own climate pledge.

ACQUALINA × ROLLS- ROYCE CULLINAN

MIAMI’S MANSIONS AT ACQUALINA $38 MILLION PENTHOUSE TO INCLUDE ROLLS-ROYCE CULLINAN

The most anticipated motor car of 2018, Cullinan, provides the final luxurious touch to the $38 million penthouse at the Mansions at Acqualina in Miami, Florida. Coming just weeks after its global press debut in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, the showcase at Acqualina marks the arrival of Cullinan for Rolls-Royce lovers of luxury in South Florida. Cullinan has quickly become the most sought after motor car in the luxury market today and Acqualina has chosen to make it part of this totally move-in-ready penthouse, ‘Palazzo del Cielo.’ The Rolls-Royce will add to the Acqualina property’s garage that has the honor of holding more personally owned Rolls-Royce Motor Cars than any other in the world.

“No luxury collection is truly complete without a Rolls-Royce Motor Car,” said Martin Fritsches, President of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Americas. “This is especially true at the Acqualina properties, where so many members of our Rolls-Royce family reside. Cullinan is the latest addition to our collection and we are thrilled that the new owner of ‘Palazzo del Cielo’ will enjoy this effortless luxury.” To celebrate the announcement, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars is showcasing at the property a stunning Bespoke Cullinan with Magma Red exterior and an interior of Bespoke Tan and Black leatherwork with Open Pore Blackwood veneer.

“The award-winning team at STA Architectural Group has traveled the world to source the most unique and desirable materials to apply to the floors, walls, countertops, vanity tops and even the baseboards of ‘Palazzo del Cielo’,” said Michael Goldstein, President of Sales for Acqualina Realty. “People who buy a $38 million penthouse want to walk in the door and not have to do anything but enjoy it.”

‘Palazzo del Cielo’ comes fully furnished and accessorized with a multi-million dollar custom design by Luxury Living/Fendi Casa and features marble flooring throughout including terraces and ceilings up to 15’ and 30’ in some areas. As the Acqualina brand is home to the largest collection of independently owned Rolls-Royce vehicles in the world and The Mansions at Acqualina’s house car is a Red Rolls-Royce Ghost Series II, it is only fitting that ‘Palazzo del Cielo’ includes the first all-wheel drive Rolls-Royce.

Rolls-Royce Cullinan is available for Bespoke Commission at any Rolls-Royce Motor Cars authorized dealer. First deliveries of Cullinan have just begun and reach full pace in early 2019. Created using the newly revealed ‘Architecture of Luxury’, Cullinan offers Rolls-Royce patrons extraordinary new opportunities to Bespoke their commission.

“The super-luxury lifestyle is evolving and Rolls-Royce is in the lead. Luxury is no longer an urban concept. More and more it is about embracing and experiencing the wider world. Our customers expect to go everywhere in luxury, effortlessly and without compromise, conquering the most challenging terrain to enjoy life’s most enriching experiences, wherever they may be. For this reason, they have asked us to create a Rolls-Royce that offers uncompromised luxury wherever they dare to venture. Cullinan is that car. It is Effortless, Everywhere.” – Torsten Müller-Ötvös, Chief Executive Officer, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars

City Girls Release “Season” Music Video

City Girls release their music video for Season featuring Lil Baby Watch it HERE. Season comes after Girl Code (Quality Control Music/Motown/Capitol Records). Girl Code includes features from Cardi B, Lil Baby, and Jacquees. They also recently released the new song, TWERK,  with the remix version featuring Cardi B included on Girl Code.
Listen to Girl Code HERE.
One of the most provocative female hip-hop duo in years, the Miami duo of JT and Yung Miami are the next generation of female rappers. On their acclaimed debut project, PERIOD, City Girls speak out as raw and confident — and with as much swagger– as the boys do, ultimately flipping the script on Hip Hop.
And people are listening. With nearly 100 million streams, JT and Young Miami are uncensored, unapologetic, sharing a commitment to their hood roots and a bold insistence that the culture they come from should stop them from getting a piece of the cash pie.
Most recently City Girls caught the ear of Drake, an early fan who recruited them for his 10-week chart topping song In My Feelings. It’s not all about Kiki When the City Girls I’ll show you how to network. F*ck that Netflix and chill; what’s your net worth? They unapologetically rap about sexual and financial empowerment, and they are not looking for any broke boys.
As Refinery29 states: This emerging group taps into the same enterprising spirit applauded in male rappers when they wax poetic about selling drugs or pimping to escape bleak financial circumstance. This female version is just as inspiring. The male gaze only succeeds in objectifying women when the sole outcome considered is male gratification. City Girls set the terms of engagement for a payday they’ve orchestrated.
With JT currently serving her sentence for credit card fraud, City Girls worked hard and banked a lot of material before she went in. As Yung Miami states: It is a minor setback for a major comeback. But perhaps the clearest explanation of the City Girl’s Girl Code is spoken in the album’s earliest moments. During a phone call from JT in prison on Intro (FREE JT), Yung Miami picks up the mic and unleashes a fiery verse that puts to rest any question of what she and her partner are here to accomplish: All my life I’ve been going against the odds/Tryna come up on me, better keep your job/A round of applause for the boss ass bitches/Who made it on their own.Éd; And as the track fades out, JT chimes in with a final message of defiance for any who would stand in their way: Éc;When I come home Period — game over.
Coach K and Pierre “Pee” Thomas of the renowned Quality Control Music label discovered the girls and took their first song “Fu*k Dat N****” from a regional hit to a national smash when it appeared on the seminal Quality Control Presents: Control The Streets Vol 1 compilation. This year Quality Control Music released City Girls’ uncensored heart-wrenching documentary Point Blank Period The documentary follows the City Girls as they break into a predominantly male-dominated industry with the release of Period. It features their reactions to hearing Drake shout them out on his record to JT working in the studio until her jail sentence starts. Exclusive interviews are included with Yung Miami and J.T., as well as industry trailblazers Trina, Kevin Coach K; Lee and Pierre Pee Thomas, exposing the complicated road to breaking female artists in the changing music landscape.

New Travel Channel Series ‘Legend Hunter’

With an avid thirst for adventure and innate curiosity, wildlife biologist and explorer Pat Spain is leaving his lab to uncover answers to fascinating unsolved riddles, historic conundrums and mythic events in the new Travel Channel series “Legend Hunter.” Premiering Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at 10 p.m. ET/PT, the seven-episode series showcases Spain as he uses his scientific expertise and state-of-the-art technology to investigate infamous tales of murder, theft and unexplained events. He embarks on a hunt to recover a $20 million stolen Irish fortune, finds new evidence that could reveal the identity of Jack the Ripper and goes on a quest for a werewolf-like creature rumored to haunt the residents of Elkhorn, Wisconsin.
As the great nephew of Charles Fort – the “Prophet of the Unexplained” – Spain carries on the family legacy by questioning mainstream science and investigating things that science often writes off as impossible. Now, with “Legend Hunter,” he will consider unusual explanations of bizarre phenomena to crack open some of history’s most mind-boggling mysteries and crimes.
“As a scientist, I’ve spent my life investigating some of mankind’s greatest oddities, bizarre creatures and mythical beasts, tribal rituals and far flung places,” said Spain. “Now I get the chance to take on some of the world’s iconic mysteries. Who was Jack the Ripper? Who really killed Lizzie Borden’s parents? These are questions that have been burning in my mind since I was a child, and I’m going right to the source to try and find answers – with exclusive access to people, archives and crimes scenes. And we have some extraordinary results that I can’t wait to share with the world!”
In the series premiere, Spain reopens the infamous Lizzie Borden murder case to find out who really took an ax to her father and stepmother. He gains exclusive access to Lizzie’s home, belongings and previously sealed family documents. Spain starts his investigation from scratch, as though the crime happened yesterday. Then, using psychographic profiling and statistical theory, among other tools, he re-examines the original suspects. Spain reenacts what they supposedly were doing at the time of the murders, their ‘alibis’ and whether these accounts are actually plausible. Through his relentless digging, Spain unearths a surprising new suspect never before connected to the case!

Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation’s

The Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation (ALCF) recognized outstanding contributors in research, treatment and caregiving at its Simply the Best Dinner and Gala, which took place in San Francisco on Saturday, November 9. The annual event is a celebration of survivors, hope and determination that brings together lung cancer patients and their families to recognize top minds in the lung cancer field.

“When we held our first gala 13 years ago, our hopes of turning lung cancer into a chronic, manageable disease seemed like a far-distant dream,” said Bonnie J. Addario, 14-year lung cancer survivor and ALCF founder. “But thanks to the work of pioneers like Drs. James Mulshine and Scott Antonia, we’re moving closer and closer each day. It’s an exciting time for lung cancer research, and we’re thankful to the many who support our efforts to advance research and patient care for helping to bring the dream within reach.”

Honorees at the event included:

James L. Mulshine, M.D., professor and retired graduate college dean and provost for research for the Institute of Translational Medicine at Rush University, received the Asclepios Award, which honors research pioneers in the fight to end lung cancer:

Excerpt from Dr. Mulshine’s comments accepting the award:

“Diet, exercise, lifestyle, all these things are important, but we have early-detection tests, both imaging and molecular that are coming along, that will inform individuals to make better choices about their health. This type of diagnostic technology is scaffolding in which we’ll add molecular diagnostics and immunotherapy and cure even a greater fraction of people. We need all of science, but we need all people working with us to live as healthy of a life as they can live and make each day precious.”

Scott J. Antonia M.D., Ph.D., chair of the thoracic oncology department at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute, was the recipient of the A Breath Away from the Cure Award, which honors individuals for excellence in oncology, early detection and coordinated treatment.

Excerpt from Dr. Amtonia’s comments accepting the award:

“I really do appreciate this honor from this group, but the fact is, any success that I may have had would have been impossible without the great team that I have at the Moffitt Cancer Center. Perhaps most importantly, none of this could have occurred if it weren’t for the bravery and the selflessness of people with lung cancer who choose to participate in clinical trials. They have no idea when they participate in a trial, as I have no idea, whether or not this is going to help an individual patient. These people understand that there may be some unpredicted severe toxicity, and more often than not the motivation – of course there’s always the hope the treatment will have some benefit to them – but more often than not the overriding, driving reason for people to participate in clinical trials is to contribute to the science, to contribute to the advancement of the care for this disease so that people in the future – other people – can benefit.”

Diana Pak, caregiver to Donna Terry, was honored with the Wind Beneath My Wings Award, which celebrates the caring, compassionate people who go above the call of duty to care for a loved one facing lung cancer.

Excerpt from Donna Terry’s comments presenting the award to her caregiver, Diana Pak:

“First off, I would like to thank the Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation for giving me this opportunity to honor my amazing caregiver, Diana Pak, in such an extraordinary way. I could spend lifetimes trying to show Diana how grateful I am to her for all that she has done for me and my family, but it would never be enough. She cares for us in ways that is selfless and generous – never asking for anything in return, and never taking any credit for all that she does.”

In addition to the awards, the evening featured a dinner with wines generously donated by Margaret Duckhorn of Duckhorn Vineyards. ABC7’s Chery Jennings emceed the awards presentation and auction, which was followed by music and dancing.

The Simply the Best Dinner and Gala is ALCF’s largest annual fundraising event. All proceeds from the event directly benefit ALCF’s patient services program and clinical research projects. This year’s presenting sponsor, Takeda Pharmaceuticals, along with other gala sponsors, made the successful event possible. More information about the 13th annual Simply the Best Dinner and Gala is available here.
