Promising Young Woman Soundtrack

On December 4, Capitol Records will release the Promising Young Woman: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack. The soundtrack is already generating a buzz, with Variety predicting Oscar nominations for Best Original Song for three of its tracks. This album’s release precedes the exciting release of the soundtrack’s film. Following the early December release of the soundtrack, Focus Features will release Promising Young Woman on Christmas Day.

Director Emerald Fennell brings a fascinating story of revenge to the screen with Promising Young Woman. Originally premiering to huge acclaim in Sundance earlier this year, Fennell’s film stars Carey Mulligan and Bo Burnham along with an ensemble cast that includes Laverne Cox, Alison Brie, Connie Britton, Jennifer Coolidge, Max Greenfield, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Chris Lowell, Sam Richardson, Molly Shannon, and Clancy Brown. Everyone said Cassie, played by Carey Mulligan, was a promising young woman until a mysterious event abruptly derailed her future. Now, an unexpected encounter is about to give Cassie a chance to right the wrongs of the past in this thrilling and wildly entertaining story.

Fennell also served as Executive Soundtrack Producer, teaming up with music supervisor Sue Jacobs and Capitol Records to create what The Daily Beast describes as “a pop music soundtrack that could only be described as glorious.” Promising Young Woman’s soundtrack continues to receive praise from well respected sources. Specifically, Vice reported that the film “expertly uses femme pop songs to underscore its critically acclaimed twisted tale of trauma and revenge.” In another review, IndieWire noted, “The film is filled with inspired soundtrack choices – a strings-heavy take on Britney Spears’ ‘Toxic’ teases before it reveals itself at the perfect moment, and an amusing use of an ‘It’s Raining Men’ cover sells Fennell’s pitch-black sense of humor early on.” In general, the musical covers of popular pop songs offers one of the film’s greatest musical choices.

AREA15 Halloween

AREA15, the brand new immersive entertainment and art complex in Las Vegas, is hosting Halloween events to get visitors of all ages in the spirit.

Oct. 30 beginning at 4 p.m. and lasting until midnight is ScAREA15, an event that encourages guests to represent their favorite horror B-movie. Friendly to social distancing, there will be candy shoots, performances inside AREA15’s The Portal, costume contests, prizes and even more.

Early entry costs $5 while children aged ten and younger can enter for free. Early entry begins at 4 p.m. and ends at 7 p.m. and focuses on family-friendly events.

Late entry, which is geared toward adults, costs $15 for all guests. Late entry begins at 8 p.m. and ends at midnight.

Food is also available to purchase from The Beast Pop-up at an additional charge.

The second event is the Future Carnival Oct. 31 from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m.. Again, early entry begins at 4 p.m. and lasts until 7 p.m. with family-friendly events. Late entry begins at 8 p.m. and lasts until 2 a.m. and is aimed at adults but allows visitors of all ages.

Early entry is $5, and late entry is $25 for every guest.

The Future Carnival is described as “part costume bash and part trippy transformation.” Costumed guests are invited to this event that includes acrobats, stilt walkers, fortune tellers, candy shoots, prizes and galaxy games. There will also be live performances inside The Portal along with costume contests.

Once again, The Beast Pop-up will serve food at an additional cost.

Rocket Fizz, the nationwide soda pop and candy shop is also bursting onto the scene in style by handing out complimentary pieces of taffy candy to all costumed visitors at their shop.

Following the Official County of Los Angeles Department of Health guidelines, Lanea is proud to reopen its doors in time for their one-year anniversary with a new cruise-up take-out option featuring convenient cocktails and tacos for pick-up, expanded outdoor dining, and meal packages, all of which will make it easier and more affordable to safely eat outdoors as well as order takeout and/or delivery. To celebrate their return and one-year anniversary, this beachy Santa Monica cocktail bar and restaurant is launching an all-day “Taco & Tequila Happy Hour” with $2 tacos and $9 cocktails daily throughout the Summer, additional specials for National Tequila Day, and a variety of to-go fiesta meal packs including their Picnic Package, perfect for a day at the park or beach.

Located two blocks from the beach, Lanea is a spirit-driven cocktail bar and restaurant with an extensive variety of over 400 hand-selected Mezcals and tequilas. Their authentic Mexican cuisine is prepared by Petra Zavaleta, who hails from Tepeaca, Puebla, and rose to foodie fame with her underground barbacoa pop-ups, and later opened their eatery Barbakush in East L.A. Praised as one of the best Mexican eateries on the Westside, Petra and her family source their lamb locally from Chino Hills and prepare their barbacoa in an earthen pit, cooking it slowly over an open fire. Offering five different styles of classic tacos on their handmade-to-order corn tortillas, as well as chips and guacamole, they are the perfect complement to Lanea’s unique cocktail menu.

Upon reopening, Lanea has revamped their landscape and dining experience to safely accommodate customers, implementing the necessary protocols, to enhance the safety of patrons with regards to COVID-19. Lanea has added outdoor dining while abiding by the six-foot social distancing mandatory safety guidelines. Additional safety protocols include administering temperature checks to employees and diners, UV-light sanitizing, all staff must wear masks and gloves, hand sanitizer is readily available, and contactless ordering and payment has been implemented.

Lanea will be celebrating their one-year anniversary all Summer long with the launch of their new, all-day “Taco & Tequila Happy Hour,” featuring $2 tacos (of your choice), $9 canned cocktails (regularly $13), and frozen cocktails. Happy hour specials include $6 Chips & Guacamole and $4 Consome, which is bone broth with chipotle chickpeas, onion, and cilantro. Patrons can enjoy a variety of $2 taco offerings including Barbacoa Tacos, wrapped in banana leaves and are pit-roasted underground, served with guacamole; Asada Tacos, grilled steak seasoned with Petra’s seasoning, served with guacamole; Pollo Tacos, grilled chicken seasoned with Petra’s seasonings, served with guacamole, cilantro and onions; Vegetarian Tacos, with mushrooms and spinach; Sopes Tacos, with beans and asada topped with Mexican cream, served with guacamole, cilantro and onions; Pescado Tacos, tilapia served with lettuce and garlic seasoning; and lastly Pescado con Mango Taco, tilapia served with mango, jalapeno, green & red pepper, and avocado. All tacos are handmade-to-order on 100% gluten-free corn tortillas, with the option to make any of the tacos into quesadillas for $2 more. Brunch tacos and quesadillas are available daily until 4pm.

For $9, they can sip on a variety of signature canned cocktails such as the Paloma made with The Chainsmokers’ JAJA Tequila containing grapefruit tonic and Aperol, or the Margarita with Cazadores tequila, fresh lime, demerara, orange liqueur. Lanea is also offering to-go bottles and flasks of a limited edition, rotating selection of craft beverages with bottle art created by local artist, Ryan Gilden.

Adapted from the classic Sasha Petraske cocktail by Liquor Lab NY

1.5 oz JAJA Blanco

.75 oz Lemon Juice

1 bar spoonful Raspberry Jam

Combine ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice and shake until chilled, about 15 seconds. Strain into coupe glass. Garnish with an orange. 

Cucumber Basil Margarita

1.5 oz JAJA Blanco

.5 oz Lime

.5 oz Cucumber Juice

.75 oz Opal Basil syrup

Shake JAJA Blanco with Lime Juice, Cucumber Juice (or muddled cucumber) with ice to chill. Pour over ice or serve neat.

Grapefruit Tequila Spritzer 

1.5 oz JAJA Reposado Tequila

1.5 oz Grapefruit Juice

Top with lime soda

Sparkling water

Cucumber slices and rosemary to garnish

New Wine Bar in Echo Park

TILDA OPENS IN THE HEART OF ECHO PARK

New Little Wine Bar is Big on California Wine and Independent Winemakers

Tilda, a new 374-square foot wine bar and bottle shop owned and operated by Echo Park residents Jason Goldman and his partner Christian Stayner opened today on Echo Park Avenue, among other food businesses and neighborhood shops on this walkable, tree-lined corridor. Tilda specializes in California natural wines—served by the glass and available for retail purchase—paired with simple meals at lunch, dinner, and into the evening. Carrie Funk, formerly of Ostrich Farm and Bar Calò, is Tilda’s General Manager, chef, and head of wine curation.

Tilda’s mix of food service, on-site pours, and wine retail takes inspiration from Paris’s caves-à-manger, informal and intimate gathering places that blur the boundaries between restaurant, wine bar, and wine shop. Only here in Echo Park the wine pays tribute to the bounty of California and the principles of natural winemaking.

The decision to focus on natural wines from California grew from the team’s interest in supporting local winemakers, as well as the diminutive size of the space. “Focusing in on California natural wines was a perfect fit for us, and a direct reflection of Tilda’s ethos,” said General Manager Carrie Funk.

“When you’re tight on space you also have to be honest about your priorities. Ours are the environmental and social impacts of winemaking, the price and accessibility of the bottle, and ultimately the experience of sharing the wine with friends. Every one of our wines is a relationship we’ve chosen to invest in, and our winemakers are a reflection of the diversity of our state and community. We are proud to support winemakers who are young, local, female, queer, independent, and socially conscious.”

The space is designed by Stayner Architects who capitalized on Tilda’s small size to create an intimate space with homelike qualities. “The space is reminiscent of a studio apartment — compact and contiguous — so we decided to play with that quality,” said Christian Stayner, the architect and co-owner of Tilda.

Custom-built furniture and vintage pieces that Stayner has collected over the past decade from Hans Bergstrom and Louis Kalf are mixed with Alexander Girard’s ‘Superweave’ textiles and abstract paintings. “We were inspired by the design and strong identities of The Esalen Institute, Braniff Airways, and Sunset magazine in the late 1960s and 70s,” said Stayner.

“We started to think of it as Tilda’s living room, and so wanted to impart the unfussy hospitality of being hosted by a wine-loving friend.” – Christian Stayner

Tilda is one part of a trio of businesses located in the unassuming bow truss building on Echo Park Avenue, which was originally built in 1928 and has been carefully repurposed. Later this year, Goldman will open Etti, a Roman-Italian eatery with walk-up counter service for coffee and a full menu of Roman-inspired fare. The building will also house The Parrot House, a small creative coworking space headed by Stayner’s sister, McKenna, a magazine editor and writer. The Parrot House will be a shared workspace for independent journalists, writers, academics, and others in the narrative arts, and it will offer LGBTQ+ programming, design talks, and other community-driven activities.

Etti and The Parrot House are expected to open in spring 2020. Stayner Architects designed all three spaces, and overhauled every aspect of the building except its original masonry walls and bow-truss ceiling. Their design highlights these original features with 16-foot-tall glass and wood-beam interior walls that allow light to flood from one space to another. “We wanted to bring out the building’s historical qualities while also transforming the space into something new,” said Stayner. “We gave each of the three businesses a distinctive identity but allowed the building’s patina to shine through.”

NEW YORK, Jan. 29, 2020 — Today, Bud Light unveiled“#PostyStore” and “#PostyBar”, two new spots featuring Bud Light Seltzer and Grammy-nominated Bud Light fan, Post Malone. Instead of a traditional launch, the brand is opening up their biggest marketing moment of the year to the fans. Bud Light made two funny ads featuring Post Malone and cannot decide which one to take to Super Bowl LIV as their official in-game commercial. Now the brand is looking to their fans to share their input and help determine which commercial will air in the big game.

Starting this morning through Thursday, January 30, fans can visit Bud Light social channels to watch both commercials and share their input to help Bud Light make the decision on which advertisement to feature during Super Bowl LIV. Fans will need to tune in to the big game to learn which one Bud Light decided on.

Both advertisements take you into the brain of musician and Bud Light enthusiast, Post Malone. “#PostyStore” shows Post inside a convenience as he faces a decision a predicament: does he purchase his go-to drink Bud Light or the new Bud Light Seltzer? This predicament sparks confusion and mayhem in Post’s brain, and the store. Ultimately, he remembers that he’s rich and can afford to purchase both – who doesn’t love a happy ending? The second spot,“#PostyBar” follows Post Malone into a bar where he discovers Bud Light Seltzer Mango. Post goes in for a sip and his senses begin to determine what it tastes like, how it smells and if he likes it. Just like the rest of America, Post Malone and his taste buds give Bud Light Seltzer Mango his seal of approval.
