Lanea Celebrates Labor Day Weekend

Praised for being “the best Mexican food on the Westside” and “Best Bar in LA”, Santa Monica’s premiere cocktail bar and Mexican Taqueria, Lanea, will be celebrating Labor Day Weekend with a variety of Picnic Packs complete with tacos, canned cocktails, pico de gallo, serape blanket and piñata to take to the beach, and All-You-Can-Eat Brunch Tacos and cocktail of choice for only $25.  Guests can also sip cocktails curbside with their expanded outdoor dining area, following County of Los Angeles health guidelines. 

For Labor Day Weekend, patrons can grab one of Lanea’s popular Picnic Packs perfect for a day at the beach including:  Mini Fiesta Pack with four street tacos, two JAJA cocktails, chips & pico de gallo and a mini piñata for $29, The Picnic Pack that includes six street tacos, two cocktails, chips & pico de gallo and a Mexican serape blanket for $49, or the Grande Fiesta Pack which contains eight street tacos of your choice, chips and pico de gallo, four JAJA cocktails, Mexican serape blanket, and a piñata for $69. 

Guests can also enjoy Lanea’s All-You-Can-Eat Brunch Street Tacos and Cocktail for $25 all weekend long. Additional breakfast items include Huevos Con Chorizo (scrambled eggs, queso, spicy pork sausage), Huevos Con Bacon (scrambled eggs, queso, bacon bits), Huevos Con Sausage (scrambled eggs, queso, sausage link bits), Huevos Con Veggie (scrambled eggs, queso, sauteed spinach and mushrooms), Huevos Con Queso (scrambled eggs, queso), and Huevos Con Beyond Meat (scrambled eggs, queso, beyond meat with Petra’s seasonings). All of Lanea’s Brunch Street Tacos are handmade to order on 100% gluten-free corn tortillas. 

Located two blocks from the beach, Lanea offers an extensive variety of over 400 hand-selected Mezcals and tequilas. Their authentic Mexican cuisine is prepared by Petra Zavaleta, who hails from Tepeaca, Puebla, and rose to foodie fame with her underground barbacoa pop-ups, and later opened their eatery Barbakush in East L.A. Praised as one of the best Mexican eateries on the Westside, Petra and her family source their lamb locally from Chino Hills and prepare their barbacoa in an earthen pit, cooking it slowly over an open fire. Offering five different styles of classic tacos on their handmade-to-order corn tortillas, as well as chips and guacamole, they are the perfect complement to Lanea’s unique cocktail menu.

“It’s been a difficult time for Santa Monica’s small businesses to overcome the hurdles the pandemic has brought us. Lanea has revamped their landscape and dining experience to safely accommodate customers, implementing the necessary protocols, to enhance the safety of patrons with regards to COVID-19. Lanea has added outdoor dining and UV-light sanitizing, and hand sanitizer is readily available with contactless ordering and payment to further project from the spread of COVID-19.

Patrons can enjoy a variety of taco offerings including Barbacoa Tacos, wrapped in agave leaves and pit-roasted underground for 36 hours; Asada Tacos, grilled steak seasoned with Petra’s seasoning; Pollo Tacos grilled chicken seasoned with Petra’s seasonings; Vegetarian Tacos, with mushrooms and spinach; Pescado con Mango Taco, tilapia served with mango, green & red pepper, avocado and Mexican cream. All tacos are handmade-to-order on 100% gluten-free corn tortillas, with the option to make any of the tacos into quesadillas.

World’s Largest Open-Air Bar

Sweden Creates the World’s Largest Open-Air Bar

Following the success of the 2019 Edible Country campaign is the launch of Drinkable Country – the largest, open-air, world-class bar led by internationally acclaimed team at Tjoget, and other leading Swedish beverage experts. Starting June 15, visitors can book a seat at more than 16 tables located in some of Sweden’s most beautiful natural landscapes for a chance to enjoy a selection of drinks and DIY recipes reflecting the country’s 100-million-acre natural pantry.

The world’s largest, outdoor, socially distanced bar is opening this summer in Swedish nature. In 2019, Sweden launched The Edible Country, the world’s largest DIY gourmet restaurant, with recipes developed by Guide Michelin-awarded chefs. The concept, which until now, consisted only of food, is being expanded to include an incredible drinking experience. Drinkable Country features a combination of ready-made beverages that reflect local nature and produce alongside drinks those visitors can mix themselves with ingredients found in the surroundings based on recipes provided by Sweden’s foremost beverage experts. When booking a Drinkable Country experience, guests will have the opportunity to explore the area with local guides while collecting and mixing the ingredients, and then enjoy the various drinks.

“The DIY recipes enable visitors to explore Swedish nature through world-class taste experiences,” says Jens Heed, Program Director Food Travel at Visit Sweden. “The country’s 100-million-acre pantry of fruit, berries, vegetables, and crystal-clear spring water is open to everyone. We call it the Drinkable Country – the world’s largest open-air bar.”

The recipes have been developed in collaboration with four different beverage experts, each of whom has been given the responsibility to represent different regions in Sweden. Rebecka Lithander represents southern Sweden. Lithander has experience from the two-Michelin-star restaurant Daniel Berlin, where she raised the non-alcohol drink packages to the same high level as the food. The tables on the west coast are represented by Bar Bruno, a local gem of a cocktail bar; while on the east coast, it is the world-famous bar Tjoget that will compose the drink menu. Emil Åreng, a nationally and internationally acclaimed bartender and author of the world’s best cocktail book in 2016, represents the northern part of Sweden.

“It is a thirst-quenching journey through Swedish nature that is a completely new and fascinating way to experience cocktails and to discover the country and its natural environment,” says Leo Lahti, Bar Manager at Tjoget.

The Beverage Experts

  • Southern Sweden: Rebecka Lithander is an acclaimed sommelier who now works at the locally praised restaurant Mutantur in Malmö. Before joining Mutantur she worked at the two-star Guide Michelin restaurant Daniel Berlin.
  • Western Sweden: Bar Bruno, a small cosy bar that serves innovative cocktails with a home-bar feel.
  • Eastern Sweden: For the past five years, Tjoget has been on the list of the World’s 50 Best Bars.
  • Northern Sweden: Emil Åreng with roots in Norrland was named Sweden’s best bartender in 2015 and has also won several international awards. Emil most recently came from Cardier Baren at the historic Grand Hôtel in Stockholm, where he was Creative Director. He is the author of the cocktail book Salongs i Norrland, which was named Best Cocktail Book in the World in 2016.

The Edible Country

The Edible Country’ is an initiative from Visit Sweden to highlight the natural and healthy pantry that Swedish nature has to offer. The menu suggestions of the do-it-yourself dining experiences are co-created with four of Sweden’s top chefs: Titti Qvarnström, Niklas Ekstedt, Anton Bjuhr and Jacob Holmström. The dishes are created with inspiration from Sweden’s varied landscape and shifting seasons. The over 20 tables are placed in Swedish Lapland, Stockholm Archipelago, the High Coast, Dalarna, Gävleborg, Sörmland, Värmland, Västsverige, Småland, Halland, Skåne and Gotland and you can find more information about the regions on our webpage. Lanea Celebrating National Paloma Day and Memorial Day

Santa Monica’s Premier Cocktail Bar & Taqueria, Lanea is celebrating National Paloma Day on May 22 all month long with a 4-pack of Paloma cocktails for $20, with a portion of all cocktail sales benefiting those with mental health issues within the restaurant industry. National Paloma Day celebrates the Paloma, Mexico’s national drink. Memorial Day Weekend festivities include a variety of Picnic Party Pack options for a perfect day at the beach, and an interactive Cocktail Canning Pop-Up Experience on the Third Street Promenade. 

For National Paloma Day, when patrons purchase a 4-pack of Paloma Thirst-Trap Cocktails, they will also receive a limited-edition, JAJA Tequila tote bag. In addition, a portion of Paloma Cocktail sales from the month of May will go to the  I Got Your Back Project. I Got Your Back teaches hospitality industry employees to look for warning signs, creates acceptance and a safe environment to talk about personal crises, and provides access to resources for those struggling to help support mental health issues within the restaurant industry.

Following the Official County of Los Angeles Department of Health guidelines, Lanea is proud to reopen its doors in time for their one-year anniversary with a new cruise-up take-out option featuring convenient cocktails and tacos for pick-up, expanded outdoor dining, and meal packages, all of which will make it easier and more affordable to safely eat outdoors as well as order takeout and/or delivery. To celebrate their return and one-year anniversary, this beachy Santa Monica cocktail bar and restaurant is launching an all-day “Taco & Tequila Happy Hour” with $2 tacos and $9 cocktails daily throughout the Summer, additional specials for National Tequila Day, and a variety of to-go fiesta meal packs including their Picnic Package, perfect for a day at the park or beach.

Lanea will be celebrating their one-year anniversary all Summer long with the launch of their new, all-day “Taco & Tequila Happy Hour,” featuring $2 tacos (of your choice), $9 canned cocktails (regularly $13), and frozen cocktails. Happy hour specials include $6 Chips & Guacamole and $4 Consome, which is bone broth with chipotle chickpeas, onion, and cilantro. Patrons can enjoy a variety of $2 taco offerings including Barbacoa Tacos, wrapped in banana leaves and are pit-roasted underground, served with guacamole; Asada Tacos, grilled steak seasoned with Petra’s seasoning, served with guacamole; Pollo Tacos, grilled chicken seasoned with Petra’s seasonings, served with guacamole, cilantro and onions; Vegetarian Tacos, with mushrooms and spinach; Sopes Tacos, with beans and asada topped with Mexican cream, served with guacamole, cilantro and onions; Pescado Tacos, tilapia served with lettuce and garlic seasoning; and lastly Pescado con Mango Taco, tilapia served with mango, jalapeno, green & red pepper, and avocado. All tacos are handmade-to-order on 100% gluten-free corn tortillas, with the option to make any of the tacos into quesadillas for $2 more. Brunch tacos and quesadillas are available daily until 4pm.

Guests can also enjoy the “Fiesta Meal-Packs” such as the Picnic Pack which comes with six tacos of your choice, chips and pico de gallo, two handmade cocktails, and a Mexican-themed blanket, all for just $45. Or choose the Chill in the Sun Pack which contains four tacos of your choice, chips and pico de gallo, and two handmade frozen cocktails. Picnic Pack ($45) Lanea’s hand-crafted cocktails are also available to-go. Summer menu additions include the Third Street Sling made with Hibiscus Patron Tequila, fresh lemon, passionfruit, pineapple, or the Jungle Bird Scooter with Vida Mezcal, fresh lemon, ginger, Campari. For $9, they can sip on a variety of signature canned cocktails such as the Paloma made with The Chainsmokers’ JAJA Tequila containing grapefruit tonic and Aperol, or the Margarita with Cazadores tequila, fresh lime, demerara, orange liqueur. Lanea is also offering to-go bottles and flasks of a limited edition, rotating selection of craft beverages with bottle art created by local artist, Ryan Gilden.

Lanea is located at 217 Broadway, Santa Monica, CA, and hours of operation are daily from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. Delivery of food and alcohol is available through UberEats, Grubhub, Postmates, and Toast.
